Had a great deal on the room after booking short notice. Location was great, right in the river with walking trail in front. Restaurant was great place for dinner, beautiful patio. Waterpark needs an update and not worth the extra $20. Our bathroom was also not clean. The floor was dirty and the cleaning staff left behind a dirty rag.
Very friendly greeter at the door. Lots of information and suggestions.
Great family place for kids. Water park staff friendly and front desk friendly. Tony Roma's restaurant is a great place to eat. Housekeeping does not come around early enough. We had left for morning 9am got back 300pm and room was dirty. Housekeeping knocked and wanted to clean and one of my kids had just started to nap. They asked if I just wanted new towels etc. In fairness they did comeback later to clean and did a nice job but why so late? The water park needs updating its fun but rust on some of the equipment. Pool floor in kiddie pool is coming up. I felt it needed work. They need a real coffee shop on campus.
Very friendly staff, beautiful Christmas decorations, nice room. We had a great time. The exercise equipment could be better. The power was off to the elliptical machine.
The hotel was extraordinary, with amenities comparable to luxury hotels such as the Drake or the Palmer House in Chicago without the pretension or price tag. I will definitely be back.
great stay excellent food good location will stay again
The hotel staff were very professional and welcoming. The room was nice and very clean.
I enjoyed the pool, hot tub, exercise room, beautiful lobby, the bar in Caroline's, clean room. Our room only had one chair in it and there were two of us so someone had to sit on the bed.
We were on our 10th anniversary. A quick check put Hotel Julien in line with cost wise Holiday Inn. That's practically comical. Hotel Julien was beautiful and full of character. To say, 'they don't make 'em like they used to' is a relevant opinion when comparing this to anything you think of as a modern 'hotel'. Not one thing. Excellent experience.
Everyone was so friendly and the room was beautiful. It was pricey. I've always wanted to stay there but not sure I'll do it again because of the price.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Julien and will stay again. The location was excellent for walking to various bars, nightclubs and gambling as well as several excellent local food establishments in the area. Everything worked out perfectly for us.
The Hotel Julien Dubuque was one hotel I have spent the night where I could not find one thing to be disappointed in. The staff was very friendly and experienced. The rooms and premises overall was renovated/restored to it's original grandeur with the highest quality of craftsmanship that makes staying here feel luxurious. The price for what is offered is very fair. Will definitely stay again!
Liked everything including history and location! Some street noise on Fri night
What I liked: -Staff was friendly, but not too friendly, and very professional. -The hotel itself was great, clean, and pool was pretty sweet. What I didn't like: -Fitness room was neglected. I found empty water cups on the treadmills. They had a Culligan water dispenser so I grab a cup and push the nozzle, and like three drops come out and its empty. So I went to front desk snack bar and bought a bottle of water. Staff only then, after realizing it was empty, replaced the water jug in the dispenser right in front of me. Rude. -Also the multi-purpose strength machine needs to be greased up. The central pulley is used on all the stations and has like 3 feet of travel. Well the first foot of travel is fine, then after that the pulleys drag on rust and stop: so instead of the pulleys rolling with the cable like they are supposed to, the cable drags along a stuck pulley - rendering any exercise useless because you essentially only get 6 inches of motion.
Clean, attractive, comfortable, quiet facilities. Professional front desk staff. Decent food for breakfast. The first night we stayed, the elevator broke down twice. The first time, it left me stranded on the first floor. The second time, they didn't even bother to put a sign on the 3rd floor elevator door, so I waited an extremely long time to go down. Surprisingly, there is only one elevator for the entire building. Maybe they should update the controls. Also, the free desktop computers in the lobby use a very outdated Internet Explorer, and kept crashing. That should be updated also.
The location was very convenient. Room had dead bugs on window ledge and more live bugs in room so we switched rooms and later saw bugs in hallway . Staff apologized but were insincere about the issue.
Staff friendly and accommodating. Housekeeping is poor. We stayed for a week and room was barely touched with the exception of replacing towels beds were barely made and room was never vacuumed.
Courteous, friendly, clean. The kids loved the pool and the slide! Breakfast was great too! We were only able to stay one night, but aleeady planning our next stay!
We loved how friendly the staff was. The whole hotel was beautiful. Breakfast was delicious! The only downfall was the pool, it was a really great pool and we had a ton of fun on the slide, but the water was very salty, not sure why.
The staff was wonderful and the location suited our needs. The ceiling fan above the bed was very dirty and bathroom faucets were water spotted which could have been avoided by drying after cleaning.
Room was clean and had large bathroom. Reasonably priced for a touristy area. Breakfast options were mediocre at best.
Facility and grounds were beautiful. It was close enough to downtown, but not as expensive. Rooms clean and beds comfortable.
Bed was comfy, nice sized pool and jacuzzi. They have a nice breakfast in the am There is no mini fridge or microwave in the rooms(i was aware of this before we went), not a deal breaker but is nice to have.
The free breakfast The WiFi connection is not working at all.
The price was decent (80 on Friday, 120 on Saturday) Old air conditioner which smelled funky, toilet bowl wasn't clean, we could hear conversation somewhat clearly next door. Women at the front desk was not competent and our friends had trouble checking in because of her.
The King suite was perfect.
The room was clean and comfortable. The Staff was friendly and efficient. The value was excellent
We had two dirty pillows with black stuff on them and I thought I paid for a room with the hot tube and fireplace so.
The room we stayed in was bigger than expected. It was really nice that we didn't have to be tripping over each other like in other places. Plus it was really clean and comfortable.
The villa has a decent size, clean & new kitchen appliances. The villa has a home feel to it. The furnitures like the bed, couch, closets, bathroom, bedding sheets & some appliances are old & need update. There were a lot of boxelder bugs outside, clinging into the screen doors & screens, some of them get in the villa. Spider inside the villa.
The grounds and setting along Lake Galena. The amenities, pool, boats, bicycles. And, we liked the folks at the bar.
You know, I loved the location. Rolling hills, a lake, woods, country club, lots of hiking, cute shops in town. The main restaurant was overpriced for dinner
We liked Galena but the hotel was horrible
Views I booked a room that said I had a balcony and I was in a room that seemed underground with a walk out cement slab...not impressed! Everything in the room was old and had a weird smell!
Landscaping No refrigerator or microwave in room
Accomodations very good but was surprised with daily amenity fee at check out. Had not been previously notified of such. Negotiated it down satisfactorily but don't care for such surprises. Restaurant serves a delicious sausage and corn chowder. Room very comfortable. Staff quite pleasant. Excellent spot for a retreat from city and suburbia.
the pool When we arrived on Friday at 11 AM, I was the 9th person in line, with four more behind me. Waited in the line for over half an hour to check in. The room had no shampoo, conditioner or body soap. Just one bar of soap on the bathroom sink. Our daughter
The cottage was secluded and had sufficient space. The fire place didn't have adequate supplies and the lighting packet provided didn't work.
Great location The room description said it has a whirlpool(hot tub).Thats the only reason why I booked xxx/night room instead of the cheaper one xxx/night without hot tub. The room did not have a hot tub and I ended up paying xxx+tax extra for 2 nights.

Beautiful environment, peaceful, so Midwest. Several great food options, enjoyed the one we picked. Bar entertainment on Saturday night was rocking. Love the walking trails. Probably walked 6 miles and didn't touch half of the available trails. Would have liked a late checkout option. When we asked on check-in, the clerk seemed a bit put off by our request. We didn't pursue it any further as we just wanted a stress-free, relaxing stay.
Location to the downtown was fairly close. Staff was SUPER friendly and nice. Only one treadmill- they need to get some more cardio equipment besides one treadmill. Not to be picky but an ice machine on the second floor would have been nice.
A wonderful experience through and through. A supermarket and numerous restaurants within reasonable walking distance from the hotel. The hotel itself featured very comfortable rooms with decorations that felt like thoughtful effort was made to give the guests a memorable experience. I'll definitely return.
Rooms were disgusting especially bathtub. Stains on curtain. Restaurant food was gross and burgers not cooked. Smell of oil burned my eyes in the restaurant.
Section of the carpet in our room had standing water on it.
ya get what ya pay for breakfest sucked
Got to park just outside room. Outside entrance Decor was old, beds uncomfortable. Plumbing difficult to operate.
Mini fridge and microwave There were odd stains on the chairs.
It was quiet, convenient and close to the activities we wanted to do and see. THANK YOU!!!! NOTHING! Thank you!
Hotel was clean and in a nice location downtown Many things in the room weren't working -- phone couldn't call out or down to front desk, fridge didn't cool properly, linens closest was locked shut, etc.
The staff were great, the rooms were very clean and we'll kept, all in historic downtown dubuque. A very enjoyable experience even though it was bussiness.
Great room for a great price. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beefstro bar and grill was great!
i got extra pillows and lotion without feeling i was putting them out. keurig coffee machine was great once i figured it out. there are 2 things i might criticize. the snack prices for candy varied from person to person. i recommend the breakfast , the omelets sausage and waffles were excellent but people should be warned it is not a free continetal breakfast but it is worth the price
Great location and close to everything. The room was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The staff were wonderful and responsive to my needs. Mary The mattress looked and felt like a motel 6. There was a big indentation in the middle.
The room was clean and updated. Bed was comfortable and the pillows were good. Location was good, attached to a casino and a good restaurant. The walls are paper thin. Spent two nights but didn't get eight hours between them. Simple things that Super 8 and Motel 6 offer like free WiFi. Breakfast was there but, holy cow! $6.95 for a continental breakfast? If you wanted eggs, bacon, hash browns, $11.95. I can see why the Hiltons have so much money.
It was comfortable. Staff was friendly. Access to pool and gym. One of the pillow cases had stains on it. The whirlpool was not all that great. I was expecting something bigger for at least two people. Having to pay for continental breakfast.
Everything! !! And the man that works there was phenomenal. ... Parking was unclear
The hotels proximity to everything is fantastic. We were able to walk everywhere. The bed was very comfortable and the provided breakfast was very good. This is a great place to stay if you are looking for something a little different with some history. We stayed over a weekend, so parking was not an issue. There's a large public lot next to the hotel that is free during the weekends. However, if you stay during the week, parking may be an issue. You would likely have to feed meters constantly to park close to the hotel. It has, likely original, single paned windows. We were woken up by garbage collections Saturday morning ~5am. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room, but if you do, noise may be a concern.
Beautiful inside & out. Extremely nice staff. Great homemade breakfast.
Location was close to everything we could have wanted to do. Wish we had more time to explore. The rooms were nice and the Innkeeper was very friendly. Plenty of space in the 2 rooms we had. Some rooms needed a little work but the building is VERY old and one person can only do so much at a time. There was nothing that hindered our stay just some aesthetic things that might bother picky people. :)
Robert, the owner, and inn keeper, was the upmost gentleman, and really catered to my daughter, and I. Service was wonderful, and the French breakfast was delicious! Nothing
Nice Staff great views fair room Small Bed (it was supposed to be a Queen) and it was a Murphy Bed - we weren't told about that also no maid service we had to switch out towels at the front desk. Crummy small pillows.
Eating breakfast in my fireside Jacuzzi was a great way to start the day.
It was my first time sleeping on a murphy bed and I was recouping from a very sore back and I have to say the bed was comfortable, The area of the Condo was convenient. You do need a car to get to town. Its more on the outskirts but very nice view. I would recommend. Thanks
This codo was very nice, the staff was excellent. The only negatives I'd have to say were: The condo kitchen was rather tiny, the fireplace was placed in between the bathroom/jacuzzi & living room so there was a removable 'fence' up blocking the view. Also this codo was not near all the shops, it was a little bit of a drive to get to the local eateries but was worth it. It is located near the largest golf course in the state and you can dine at the golf country club which had great food.
It was clean. The price was atrocious for what we got.
This resort was very clean and had a wonderful pool indoors. It was quiet and each unit has a deck. The scenery around Galena is beautiful. We enjoyed our visit very much.
Fireplace was nice. Carpets needed cleaning/replacing and there was a sour odor throughout. Purchased some scented candles to make it bearable. Wifi not included in room rate is ridiculous. Even most McDonalds offer free wifi!
The individual rooms were like personal apartments which wad nice when we wanted to stay in and cook. We also liked the jot tub and fire place. Very relaxing. It is a bit outside Galena, but it makes for a beautiful drive.
It was cozy, quiet and relaxing. Everything was wonderful!
nice room lack of reliable wi fi system
Fireplace, view and jacuzzi tub. Although a Murphy bed it was comfortable. Room was clean. Porch hadn't been cleaned in a long time, bird nests and droppings. No free wifi. Dirty patio. No free wifi. Initially staff told us our reservation was cancelled, even though it wasn't and had already been paid for in full for 1 month
My husband,2 year old,3 month old and I stayed for 3 nights in May.The rooms are very clean and have alot of room.My son who is 2 had planty of space to play with his toys and run around. Great bathroom with a huge whirl pool tub.Nicely decorated. The only downside was the pool-the bottom is so rough that I actually cut my toe and it hurt!Other then that a perfect experience. My husband and I are actually going back for 2 nights in September for our anniversary.
