The local crown out front that pick pocketed me my last stay. You need security out front.
Staff handled challenging situation with grace
When I was checking in it was midnight. There was a young woman beside me who was 1/2 dressed and obviously very intoxicated. She had lost her phone... was a mess. She was insisting her boyfriend was in the hotel and she needed a key. The staff couldn't find his name on their register (very likely she was at the wrong hotel!!) but they gave her an old shift from lost and found and were unfailingly polite and kind even though she was rude and crying and screaming. And apologized like crazy to me when they sent her on her way... but not their fault at all! Great when staff are nice to me when I am polite - amazing to watch them be patient and sweet to someone who was awful!!
Not Same Quality as Sutton Place in Vancouver
See Cons, as there was more than there was Pros. However, I should give my compliments to the reception and housekeeping staff, who were friendly and accommodating. I left my watch in the first room we were given (immediately switched), and housekeeping did report this, and it was quickly returned to me at reception when I noticed.
I chose the Sutton Place in Edmonton based on a good experience at their location in Vancouver, which is a nice hotel. The Edmonton property is just not of the same caliber by a mile. The problems started on arrival: parking is not obvious, and no valet was present for directions (it was admittedly Sunday night). The parkade elevator was broken, and stairwell lock, so we ended up exiting through the back into a garbage filled alley. The first room we got had a very loud/on-the-verge of breaking heating fan, so I immediately requested a change of room (which was granted). The amenities are less than Sutton in Vancouver - the mini bar was empty (not stocked - I had been hoping to get some $10 chocolate on the company's dime), the wallpaper in the bathroom old and dirty (fan didn't work). The Television did not carry Sportsnet West, which forced us to go down to the lobby late at night to watch the Flames (lose unfortunately) in the playoffs. The elevators are old, the buttons don't work properly and when you arrive on the ground floor the movement of the lift is gut-wrenching. The hotel restaurant - Chop - is nicely appointed however has a relatively limited menu which we struggled with, as it was dominated by steak. Although admittedly a steakhouse, a hotel restaurant needs more options.
Nestled in downtown Edmonton, less than a mile from Shaw Conference Center, the Sutton Palace Hotel Edmonton provides comfortable accommodation for guest. Renovated in 2019, the pet-friendly hotel offers over 300 smoke-free guestrooms and suites ranging in size from spacious rooms to two-story suites. Standard room features include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, free toiletries, ironing facilities and refrigerators. Upgrade suites come with added living areas. Adjoining rooms are also available on request.
The hotel’s culinary team serves up an extensive menu, with options for customized meals to fit with unique dietary needs. In addition, the hotel houses Chop Steakhouse & Bar, which serves up juicy cuts of prime rib, fresh seafood, steak, and wine.
An indoor fitness center provides a comfortable spot for guests to work out. The Sutton Palace Hotel also boasts an indoor pool where visitors can unwind and enjoy a dip. Other hotel amenities include flexible meeting and conference space, capable of holding up to 600 guests and a theater-style ballroom that can be reserved for different occasions.
Set within a thirty-minute drive from Edmonton International airport, the hotel’s location puts it within walking distance of many of the local landmarks. It’s connected by an indoor pedway to Edmonton City Centre Mall (a three-minute walk) and is set five minutes from Rogers Place. Shopping enthusiasts can get their fix at the Kingsway Mall located within a half-hour’s walk while the Commonwealth Stadium is roughly the same distance.
