Don’t judge a book by its cover goes a long way at Gullwing Beach Resort. While the exterior is less than luxurious, the large, condo-style accommodations make it an ideal choice for independent travelers, couples, and families who can do without the extensive amenities of a typical beach resort. GullWing Beach Resort is set in the quiet but convenient southern Estero Island. The immediate neighborhood doesn’t offer a lot, but a 10-minute walk will lead guests to the Santini Marian Plaza Shops, a strip mall with a handful of restaurants, a pharmacy, and a liquor store. A 5-minute drive leads to Lovers Key State Park, while a 10-minute drive takes guests to the bars, shops, and restaurants of Fort Myer’s bustling Times Square. Amenities are not as luxurious as other beach resorts in the area, but direct access to Fort Myers Beach is an enormous draw to the hotel. The outdoor swimming pool is the main hub of activity on the property, along with a separate whirlpool. A snack bar is on-site near the pool offering favorites like popcorn, hot dogs, and smoothies. A small fitness center and tennis court are on-site, as in a 1,000-square-foot meeting room and small business center. The hotel also offers serval services and conveniences for guests. The 66 condo-style units are the main feature of the resort with tons of space, full kitchens, and furnished balconies with great views. There are one, two, and three- bedroom units with wet bars and high-top chairs, seating areas, tables, sleeper sofas, and more. Galley kitchens include ovens, microwaves, toasters, dishwashers, and coffeemakers, plus an array of cookware, silverware, and starter packs of essentials like dish soap. All units have washer and dryers as well.
