Quiet room at the back, comfortable beds. Slight, somewhat musty smell in the room and corridor during our stay.
right downtown haarlem no resturant. no way to unload your car. very difficult to find
Great location. Friendly, helpful staff Very warm on top floor due to stained glass dome. Room was difficult to completely cool off. Pillows somewhat too thick.
right downtown close to all shopping and restaurants quite noisy at night, and no parking nearby
staff very good all was good
Comfort and quietness in the centre of Haarlem.
excellent location - on edge of groat market. quality of rooms excellent difficulty in finding without a map and no private parking - although there is a public car park next door.
comfort of the beds, but besides the good beds, it was a very regular hotel room (the term deluxe twin room gives you another idea) smoking hotel staff outside the hotel (for the entrance)
Spacious room; helpful staff who would go out of their way to do things; central position A glass door to the bathroom was weird; room a bit chilly at night
Location, comfortable bed, excellent value for money Room door not sound proof -> could hear noise in the hallway at times
The front desk staff was exceptionally helpful in making suggestions for activities and dining as well as in assisting with the arrangements. The hotel was also immaculate, and housekeeping was well-supervised in ensuring that the rooms were properly serviced and stocked. Complementary fruit and free wireless access and printing were much appreciated amenities. The breakfast was not included and was excessively priced.
Was able to check in at 11.00 am, asked for an extension cord which was in my room on my return from shopping. Beautifull stained glass ceiling on the top floor. Umbrella's at the exit in case of rain. Loved it!
we enjoyed our stay at the hotel staff are friendly and helpful, thank you
Our second stay at Lion D'Or for comfort and location. Perfect location across from Haarlem station for arriving by train or trips into Amsterdam, Zandvoort (beach), or other rail departures. Also located right up the street is the express bus #300 starting point that whisks you comfortably to the Schiphol departure terminal for 4 euros. Great base for Haarlem and A'dam. Real good breakfast buffet included. Loved the air conditioning. FrieGood local and regional beers available in the bar reasonably priced. Willy Wortel's a half block away. Scenic 10 minute walk to great market and the big church. All-in-all Lion D'Or is the best choice of Haarlem hotels for users of public transport
The desk staff was very courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. They not only made our stay at the hotel more enjoyable, they also made our stay in Haarlem more enjoyable.
Very good location, staff, breakfast is very reach, new and clean rooms and facilities. no
Easy and good service from hotel staff
The city of Haarlem itself is very pleasant, with a historic old centre with outstanding 16th-17th-18th century architecture, combined with an abundance and wide range of shops and restaurants. As a gateway to the city of Amsterdam, the Lion d'Or Hotel is also excellent - it is a three minute walk to the platform of the Haarlem train station, which provides service every 10 minutes to Amsterdam Central Station which takes only 15 minutes of train travel to reach.
Location - near train station, so Amsterdam was only 15 min away and very easily accessible. Good breakfast buffet and helpful staff.
A comfortable hotel with friendly staff, close to the centre. A little aged and perhaps in need of a revamp. Still uses blankets and sheets instead of duvet and cover.
This place is right across the street from the train station. It was so simple to get around. I had to go to The Hague and to Amsterdam as well and was just perfect. Bit of a walk into the Grote Markt but if the weather is nice and you're mobile, it's easy. Shower is massive too. Breakfast was one of the best so far for me on my trip. Not sure what the deal was if it had to do with the construction across the street of the new terminal, but while trying to fall back asleep at 5AM, I noticed that when cars drove pas in front of the hotel (I was in room 26) I could feel my bed shake a bit when the car would drive over a bump. Probably not a good thing. Also, the room felt slightly slanted away from the road. If you're super fussy, these things might throw you off. Busy weekend so a bit expensive for what you got. Plus Wi-Fi wasn't free but there's an internet cafe a few doors down which is way cheaper.
hotel very convenient for bus and train stations, polite helpful staff. room spacious and comfortable with tea and coffee supplied. breakfast very basic, hotplate for frying eggs on buffet table at breakfast, not very practical when busy
Excellant staff and great room Nothing
The location and the staff were excellent.
very nice helpful owners and employees. Great location ,fair price ,nice room
We liked everything about our stay, but perhaps the thing we liked best was the exceptionally warm and friendly welcome from the owners. Nothing
The staff was extremely helpful. They set up the self-checkin process for us two days before our arrival date.
The couple who own and run this Hotel were very helpful and interested in us as guests. Our room was clean and neat and had a wonderful deck outside the window door.
Personal service, free shuttle modernrustic room
the staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel had a relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely stay there again. we were there over a weekend and there was a lot of noise from the street until late at night.
Great staff: Marco (the owner) was very helpful and allowed us to check in early. Also, the room and the bathroom were quite large and the beds were wonderful. Unfortunately, our room was on the street side and we did get noise from late-night revelers into the early morning hours.
The managers were very kind and helpful. The rooms could use some more furniture.
Very nice room, large and open and quite but we stayed Sunday and Monday Night
Helpful and friendly staff. Breakfasts a bit pricy
Outstanding central location, laid back atmosphere and so much nicer than downtown Amsterdam. I will return.
I do not understand why some people wrote bad things. Everything is super. Rooms are large. Lobby is beautiful with all those antique clocks, breakfast room is super in egyptian style, the Italian restaurant is fantastic and cheap and nice painted . I was allowed to have a look in the large super clean kitchen. Beautiful 17th and 18th century furniture on all floors. The bar is also very special and so different to bars known to me. I wish all hotels were like this one and as cosy as this place. I will recommand this hotel to everybody. May be some hotels are a dollar cheaper but I would even pay double. I paid more in other hotels for a lot less comfort and service No everything was 100% to me
I loved its postion and our room overlooked the Church of St Bavo's. My 86 year old mother was enthralled and had never in her life stayed some-wehre like this. It was worth all the trouble at the airport getting her there. She is in a wheelchair and we found all the facilities and staff exteremley helpful
The greeting from a very nice gentleman on reception and the central location. No hot water in the room and service had gone home at 5.30 so nothing could be done! Almost impossible to get to with a car.
the location is great and the breakfast also - the room spacious and warm very dated furniture quite shabby
Great location, very good value for money (Euro 80 for two people). No need to book breakfast, plenty of nice places around the square where breakfast is cheaper and better! Room had absolutely no view, but that we to be expected for that price.
Friendly staff, clean and spacious room, excellent location My room was at the first floor, frontside and a little noisy
the location, the spacious room, the restaurant next door as the rooms are spacious, and as it was freezing outside, the room didn't warm up quite quickly. The next day the heating system even was turned off (by the cleaning lady? no idea)
Excellent service from staff. During the night of Oct 17 or 18 I left my wallet in the lobby and staff took it and saved it for me
The friendliness and good service of the staff and the atmosphere of the hotel. the central location . nothing
Daily cleaning service was bad. Only came and changed towels, never cleaned or made beds up.
Very nice appartments located in downtown Haarlem. Recommended for both business and shopping / sightseeing. Absolutely value for money! Had to relocate to another appartment because of leakage in the appartment downstairs. However, the other appartment was in an area as nice as the previous and much more spacious. WIFI connection is something that needs to be improved; no or very poor coverage.
Having an apartment rather than usual room only felt great. Stain on wall. Noise on Friday night - I didn't appreciate the place was quite that central.
The balcony on the apartment looking over Haarlem centre No biscuits with the coffee, but thats just me being incredibly picky!
Great Room - Perfect Location Nice People!!
Great Room - Perfect Location
The rooms was charming with plenty of room for four people. We also had a porch that overlooked the large church. We were surprised on our third night to be waken by one or two little mice. Once the hotel resolves this problem, I would recommend it. This was mentioned in a previous review as well. It is a lovely place!
Location and size of the apartment. It's not a hotel but rather an apartment. Each apartment is separated by a couple of 100 meters. At arrival, we expected to find a hotel with reception and rooms. Instead we entered a breakfast place with all our luggage which acts as a reception/apartment rental. We then had to walk 150 metres one direction for one room and 200m the opposite direction.
the flat had lots of character and was well-equipped and comfortable
Two rooms, kichen appliances, fridge, comfortable bed Noise on the street, on the week end. No phone inside. No TV in the bedroom.
The hotel was in the perfect location to see Haarlem, in fact we have already re booked to stay in november
All the facilities including bar and restaurant especially
Once again we were more than impressed with the staff and hotel.
Very friendly staff. Clean room with great view. Great location, right in the heart of the historic center.
The location was perfect. The room was clean but very basic. I would expect at least coffee and tea making facilities. The television in my friends room did not work.
The hotel was centrally located and was clean. The room was large enough and the beds comfortable. The water was always hot. The staff were helpful and friendly. It was less glamourous than hotels in other countries and was quite expensive in comparison.
We stayed in the Ambassador Hotel -formerly the Joops Hotel. Staff were friendly and the room was satisfactory.
The hotel was an easy walk from the train station. It was easy to travel to Keukenhof to see the tulips in bloom. There is less hustle and bustle in Haarlem than Amsterdam. no
Fantastic decor.A joy to behold and great value for money everything !!
the receptionist was very helpful the room was very basic in accommodation
Free wifi (although slighltly tedious that had to ask for code and that was limited to one device ie once used on Phone unable to use on Laptop!) Owner did faciliatae a code for whole week but previous to that we had to get new code every 24 Hrs. This could dealt with at check in Free wifi wasn't useable on 3rd Floor for my collegue who I had also booked a room for
cleanliness of the room.
Its location, cleanliness and staff. View from the bedroom.
Staff was very friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, and the dining room has a beautiful view of Haarlem's Grote Markt Hotel Amadeus's entrance is a long and steep staircase, so it's probably not the best choice for everyone.
The owner was helpful and answered any questions I had.
its location the bathroom was tiny subpar w/ an accordion "door" lighting level was so low we could not read in the room an elevator would have been nice - especially since the hotel desk is 2 stories up from the street level
Centrally located in one of the finest town centre squares in Europe. Easy access to public transport. Close to a wide range of shops, restaurants, museums and the cathedral.
Good buffet breakfast with individually made expresso coffee in delightful second floor reception room with large windows overlooking the Grote Markt. Steep stairs up to reception on second floor. Bedroom rather cramped, lighting very dim, and swing doors to ensuite bathroom awkward and unfinished. The queen size bed we requested was two single beds pushed together.
Excellent location, right in the center of town.
Excellent location on the square, short and easy walk to the train, very close to parking, good restaurant at reasonable prices, friendly staff and owners.
such a hotel that is in the midst of Haarlem, a nice quiet town, it is not far from Amsterdam, Zandvoort or it is omitted to point out that the toilet and bathroom was shared
such a great location. small room but it popped up late and i was glad to have it. restaurant attached is pretty darn awesome too. just great city! all was good
Located in the very centre of the old town. Restaurant, bar downstairs. Helpful staff.
Great location, very friendly staff. very narrow stairs, rooms near to club next door distururbed by noise
The hotel being on the town square with markets daily Music from the club next door kept us up sat night
Right in th sentre of the city. If you are fit and can climb steep stairs, this is the hotel for you, but many rooms have ahsred toilet and shower facilities. People smoking indoors at the bar.
The hotel was directly in the center of Haarlem, the staff was very kind in helping us to orient to the city. They even gave us complimentary earplugs to help us sleep amid late night noise next door. The hotel is next door to two night clubs that play loud music until 3-4am. The hotel doesn't have good sound insulation, so it is difficult to sleep for anyone who is not planning to stay out dancing all night. If you stay on a Friday night, they start setting up the market outside at 5am, so I would recommend staying further away from the central Grote Markt. Haarlem is tiny; everything is a 10 minute walk or less. If you need sleep, just stay a little further out.
great location breakfast had little choice
location if tempeture is above 23C very warm and very noisy with windows open ear plugs are a must a fan in the room woold be a big help rooms are very small bath facilities are very clean breakfast was very good staff is friendly and helpful
Room was spotlessly clean, the breakfast was very good, the location was excellent
good food staff very friendly and helpful and good accommodation would definatly stay there again
clean, just off town centre and friendly staff
it's location the builders across the road, had the road closed, the cafe in the hotel is closed, no tea facilities in room it is budget
Staff very friendly. central Haarlemn location. Rooms appeared to have been striopped bare of any comfort dacilities. There was no coffee / tea making facility and the room felt cold with the radiator giving off only a faint warmth even when turned up full
Nice and helpful staff
The managers and the breakfast.
The steep and small steps going up to the room were were bordering on being unsafe. There was not anyone on duty 24 hours a day and there were not any safety deposit boxes, so it was uncomfortable to leave the room and return to a locked door at night (The staff leaves at 11 p.m.) It was also a very, very long walk from the train station.
The staff were very friendly and helpful! It was a quiet, clean hotel. Extremely clean bathrooms. The breakfast buffet was tasty, but the selection was limited. Close to Grote Market. The rooms were small. The area around the hotel was a little rundown. No deadbolts or security chains on the room doors.
Very friendly, room a bit small but we were hardly there. Good breakfast. Next to building site but not far to walk to shops and Grote Market. Bath rather than shower but plenty of hot water. Steep staircase but we are not that mature and we were cycling around North Holland.
Good Location. Basic, but good value for money
Friendly staff! Large room overlooking one of the prettiest squares in Europe. Nice breakfast and complimentary wine/soft drinks in the fridge upstairs. free hi speed wifi.Very accommodating when we shortened our stay due to a earlier flight. Highly recommend! Great value. If you are intimidated by steep stairs and don't like the minor ambient noise that comes with a quaint B and B like this, it might not be the place for you. we are Americans in our sixties and we loved it.
