Ishiba Ryokan - Hirosaki - Building
1
8.9 Excellent (383 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Ishiba Ryokan in Hirosaki, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Hirosaki Castle and United Church of Christ in Japan Hirosaki Church. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very big room. Superior service
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owner was super friendly and knowledgeable about the town and in general; guests would not need any tourist information centre. The ryokan itself gives an impression of an authentic Japanese inn, with vintage look and feel, and just enough modern commodities. The location is perfect, 5 min walking from the castle
Cons: There are two shared bathrooms, one of which has only one shower. So a person using it normally locks the door, and it may take time to wait for your turn. The second room has three showers, so if you don’t mind company, there’s no need to wait. Fair enough, men and women switch the bathrooms daily (not exactly sure, we stayed only two nights)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. This place is fantastic. Location is next to Hirosaki Park/Castle, good food close by etc...the service, the caring details by the owner, the story from its history. This is such a especial experience and place...I cannot recommend it enough. Thank you SO MUCH for having us. Would come back to Japan just to visit this place again.
Cons: Nothing. Literally our 1 nigt stay felt way too short.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: First of all, the hotel was perfect: great location and breakfast, big and beautiful room and an Onsen. But what make the experience really amazing was the hospitality of Ishiba san himself (the owner). We took me to ride around town to show me the best local places, help me a lot with my trip to the mountains (drew me a map with suggested routes!) and even offered me to join for a night out with him and his friends. Thank you so much!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel owner has a very good English. It is a good experience to chat with him.
Cons: the space of toilet in 2nd floor is small. Tall people are advised to go to 1st floor
9.5 Excellent
Pros: -The ryokan has a very long history and rich historical background. This makes it so impressive for me. Yet, the place and rooms are very clean and tidy. I give a big thanks to the ryokan owner who provides such elegant and historical place for my stay. This really facilitated my photography trip so that I can wake up so early to go to the castle. -The owner is very friendly, helpful and professional. Thanks for giving us a drive to the station! His English is very fluent so no problem with communication. -The onsen is very relaxing. It is very enjoyable to get into onsen after a long walk in the castle.
Cons: Can’t think of anything.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The service was incredible. Staff were very friendly and accommodating - it would be an understatement to say that they went above and beyond for us. The building had great character and history which really enhanced the experience of staying in Hirosaki. It was my first time staying at a Ryokan, and I had a very pleasant experience - it's definitely something I would do again. I thoroughly recommend this place for anyone staying in Hirosaki.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: One of the best place we've ever stayed. Beautiful ryokan with deep history, great hospitality and warm heart. Will never forget this place and the hosts.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The head of the ryokan was really nice. He was very helpful in giving information about the area and he supplied a space for everyobe to watch the festival. He also gave me a ride to the station after I checked out. The place was clean and I had a big room.
Cons: The bathroom was a little outdated. Because it is an older place the walls are a little thin.

Featured amenities include a computer station, dry cleaning/laundry services, and luggage storage. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were very happy with our stay at Dormy Inn Hirosaki. We LOVED the onsen, free noodles at night, & overall accommodations. The staff was also very friendly. Its conveniently located and has a Family Mart right across the street, making it super easy to grab a cheap snack or meal. We will definitely be back!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Free shuttle to/from JR station, Onsen, Room Size
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: free evening ramen tastes really good. I want more
Cons: no shuttle service available when I came. not enough information especially English to tell how to travel to the hotel after the train arrives
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - excellent breakfast, - frendly staff - pleasant onsens on the roof of the hotel - incredible
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and free shuttle pickup to and from JR station.
Cons: Suggest hotel send a message or email to travellers where to wait the shuttle bus at JR station. I was lucky the tourist info staff told me the exact waiting point and time. Otherwise I would have to spend money to take taxi to hotel on arrival.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: 1. Free pick-up and drop-off service. You get to be picked up by a taxi (wait next to the apple post box outside of JR Hirosaki station, if the driver is not there, wait a bit more, he'll eventually appear) from the station from afternoon to late night and you can be dropped off at the station in the morning. I used the service three times and I was the only passenger, such a luxury. Please note that the pick-up service from JR station to the hotel is supported by a local taxi company, so you'll be picked up by a car, not a shuttle bus. 2. Breakfast was good, but for me one meal was just perfect. There are many old cafes and bakeries in the city for you to explore if that's your cup of tea. Hirosaki is famous for its apples, and is has many gorgeous apple pies to offer. 3. The late night free ramen service is great. 4. The bath is what makes dormy inn stands out! Very nicely decorated, although I don't think the women's bath has an equally good view of Iwaki san (at least I didn't really see it). Most of the time I was there all by myself, feels like a private bath. 5. The free laundry service, which can be perfectly combined with another hot bath session. 6. Free bike rental for the first two hours, although I didn't have a chance to use this service. Alternatively the city offers bike rental for 500yen/day (not sure how many hours), and it's definitely the best way to explore the city on a sunny day. 7. Free umbrella rental (very useful when there is pouring rain). 8. Location location location. Two convenience stores nearby, close to the park and many major sites, restaurant area, old cafes, and a 100yen bus bus stop. 9. Staff was friendly and helpful. I got a room as requested. 10. The elevator is smartly designed. The room as well, taking off the bathtub but keeping the shower gives guests good flexibility. The room is bigger than other hotel rooms of the same price range.
Cons: 1. When I arrived there were 4-5 small spiders on the ceiling, occupying different corners, and some mosquitoes. I'm not sure if it's because it was raining outside (because I didn't see most of them the following days), but it didn't give me a good first impression and I think the room could've been cleaner. 2. Wifi in the room was very weak and unstable. I had to give up uploading photos and wait until I checked into another hotel (where the wifi was fast and it was such a big contrast.)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Everything mentioned above
Cons: The bed and pillows were HARD.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good value hotel. The Ofuro (public bath) is very nice and big. The room is clean and modern. Central location and the staff are also very nice.
Cons: You have to pay for a car parking lot.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This hotel has a wonderful public bath on the top floor with laundry facilities, so you can wash your clothes and yourself at the same time. I like that they have free ramen included as part of the package and breakfast available for those who want it. The room design showed staff who are thoughtful to travellers.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The onsen n soba
Cons: Tiny room and expensive

7.5 Good
Pros: Convenient location near railway station. The 100 yen bus around town llleaves from in front of station. Runs every 20 minutes. Good way to get around. Great traditional restaurant across the square is recommended. Private booths, shoes off but great experience.

Cons: Food could be warmer.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The Hirosaki castle park is a wonderful place for Sakura and made the hotel rate worth the value. The hotel was nice and just right beside the JR station. We could buy stuff from the 7-11 24hr shop just beside the hotel. We parked our car in the hotel carpark and the fees were acceptable.
Cons: I stay in the Sakura period and the cost is relatively high. I think it is common for Hirosaki area.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location to the station and shopping centre. Breakfast spread was good
Cons: Na

Pros: We have had an unforgetable experience in such interesting traditional Japanese inn with a long history. Staff are warm and welcoming. Near to the city center and the ancient city.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff amd good ryokan. Staff even proposed to wait longer for me since I ran late.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very understanding, explained everything to us, and spoke a little English. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast and very enjoyable. Our room was small but comfortable. There's a bus stop across the street or you can easily walk into the city area.
Cons: There are smoking areas on each floor that aren't sealed.

Pros: I arrived a day earlier and I think the family were taking a day off. They let me stay anywzy! What a relief. So very kind.
7.5 Good
Cons: The public bath is underwhelming.
6.8 Good
Pros: Hirosaki can be summaries as such, a less then interesting city itself with lots of pretty things. The castle and the park, the temple area the samurai quarter etc etc all this are west of the city north to south, the east side is rather ugly really. The place I said is close by to all the important monuments and sights you have to see, that said there was so much snow, the hotel does not have central heating and it was freezing, the room had gas heater to keep it worm.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good location but quiet room with car parking. Clean room and good speed wifi. Staffs have good hospitality and very helpful. cozy hotel.
Cons: None. But please be informed that the hotel have a black cat.
9.3 Excellent

Hoshi no Yado Hakucho-za - Hirosaki - Building
6
8.0 Excellent (203 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The Hoshino Yado Hakuchoza provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. It's easy to keep connected with the property's Wi-Fi in designated areas. The hotel is just 11km away from JR Hirosaki Station. When guests have some time on their hands they can make use of the onsite facilities. A pickup service can be arranged for guests upon request.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel has an odd name, and it lived up to the quirky nature of the name, and more. Outside, it had an astronomical telescope, forest walks, a go-kart track, miniature golf, a Schwbebahn, a ski hill and lift, a dining hall and tents, self- cook pits and no doubt more that I missed. Inside, there was an onsen with an amazing view of Mt. Iwati, a heated indoor pool, game rooms, karakoe rooms and a souvenir shop. There was a coin laundry (free, but the soap was a modest 50 yen charge). The room was large, clean and well- appointed. The staff were great throughout.
Cons: That bathroom was small - that's it.
5.0 Okay
Cons: Further out than expected from hirosaki
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great hospitality and comfortable rooms. Very nice outdoor onsen with spectacular views of Mt Iwaki
Cons: Rooms can do with black out curtains. It was too bright from 5.30 am onwards,
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All the staff were wonderful, special mention to Sandra for looking after me in particular. The onsen is amazing with a spectacular view of Mt Iwaki. Free shuttle transport to Hirosaki (as I did not have a car) and breakfast included with my stay. Observatory was also a highlight - must go there!!
Cons: Did not have wifi connection in some parts of the room however this wasn't a problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was beautiful. The baths were amazing. It's a little far from the station, but a taxi isn't too expensive. The staff also doesn't really speak English, but are happy to use Google to communicate. I highly recommend this hotel.
Cons: There was nothing we didn't like.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in Hoshino Yado Hakuchoza for 2 nights during a family trip in Japan, as a base to visit the summer festivals in Aomori and Hirosaki. We stayed in a Japanese-style family room with Tatami mattresses, which was large and comfortable. The hotel has an Onsen - Japanese-style hot bath, and a swimming pool. Overall a good and convenient place for a family stay.
Cons: The hotel is located outside Hirosaki, so a car is necessary since there is no public transportation. Also, note there are family rooms without private bath/shower (although you can obviously use the Onsen).

10.0 Excellent
Pros: - right in the middle of Hirosaki City (about 15 minutes walk from Hirosaki Castle, about 20 minutes walk from JR Hirosaki Station, 5 minutes walk from Chuo-Hirosaki Station) - very near to bus stop (Naka-Dotemachi, a lot of bus will make stop at here, very convenient) - nice breakfast (variety of choices from Japanese style to western, taste good) - very friendly staffs. - value for money (among the cheapest hotel you can get in the area). - near to convenient shop (2 minutes walk) and department store (1 minutes walk).
Cons: most of the things are fine for me. if you want to be picky, the TV channel is limited (only 7 channels in total, but who would stay in the room watching TV?)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good facilities in the room and very comfortable and clean. Staff are helpful and the breakfast is very good. Very good value for money and I'd be happy to stay there again. The location is quite handy to walk to the castle park and there's also a nice walk beside a stream nearby. Easy distance to shopping too.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel in a central position, just 15 minutes on foot from JR Hirosaki station, or 5 minutes by car, and a 10 minutes stroll from the castle. Convenient restaurant at 1F where I had a good and abundant dinner in a family atmosphere. Kind staff, comfortable bed and room.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is about halfway between the station and Hirosaki castle/park. On a street with lots of shopping. The hotel is a bit old bit has been kept well. I was here during Golden Week so ended up in a smoking room despite not being a smoker, and it was not bothersome.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast offered a huge spread, delivered by smiling helpful staff. Location of the hotel was excellent.
Cons: Coffee provided at breakfast was not that special.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We were expecting much when we arrived, but this hotel by far exceeded our expectations! The room was extremely spacious and comfortable with everything you may need (bathrobes, pajamas, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc). The pillows and mattresses were also perfect for a good sleep (I'm sensitive to such things). Besides, there were a fridge and tea-making facilities in the room. The staff seemed not very fluent in English, but very eager to help. We really enjoyed our stay.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast has wide range of choices to choose from, and is perfect to enjoy at the start of the day.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: I guess the location is good as it is right in front of the JR station, but at night time there are very limited options for food, and I would have preferred staying at a more city center location.
Cons: Not many restaurants at night around the hotel. I wanted a massage but hotel staff did not know how to help me with that - that is usually a standard in Japan.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Close proximity to JR station. Onsen on 14th floor is very welcoming.

2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Location is on the edge of town a ten minute bus ride to the rail station. Buses were one an hour if you are lucky. Hotel was on the fourth floor of a department store (which was very good) and you have to walk through an extremely noisy games arcade to enter the hotel. None of the staff spoke any English at all, even checking in was difficult. Paid extra for a Japanese style room was large but very basic and quite scruffy. Buffet style breakfast was very, very basic.

Pros: The breakfast buffet was nice and the parking (although limited in amount) was free. Room and bed were comfortable enough and the location was amazingly good. Staff were very friendly and I liked the free rental items on each floor.
Cons: Hotel is obviously a bit older and you can tell by the furniture and fittings in the room (varnish on the table nearly completely worn away and soap dispenser in the bathroom kept on with tape). Everything was clean though, despite the age of the place.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at the hotel was very nice. The room was small but clean with own bathroom, tv. There were extra amenities on the hallway to use (hair clip, sponges, kettle, (rice cooker I think), bath salts, bathrobes and several lotions. Also nice was the massage chair on the 4th floor. Breakfast was included, also nice.
Cons: It was a bit pricy.

6.3 Good
Pros: Convenience to access JR station
Cons: None
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel is very quiet, you don't hear the street at all. I liked having a convenience store across the road, too. The hotel is within walking distance of a department store that has restaurants as well.
Cons: There is no option for printing, either at reception or anywhere else in the hotel (e.g. Internet corner with printer). So if you are on business and need print-outs, you might have to go elsewhere. You will need about 15 minutes to the train station if you have luggage; you can't take a bus - there is a bus station near the hotel, but the bus intervals are abominably long.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Couldn't rate this property due to water disruption. We were relocated to their sister property at Hotel Hyper Hills Hirosaki. Thanks to Booking.com team for the last minute arrangement. Hyper Hills was slightly further to JR Hirosaki station compared to Hirosaki Prince. Hyper Hills was within 15mins walk from JR Hirosaki station.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: My room was small but it had everything, it was clean, friendly staff, good breakfast and convenient location, so all good!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quite close to the station and 30min walking to the castle and neputa place. There is a drugstore and a konbini close by. A lot of amenities available !
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were exceptionally accommodating. I was stressed on arrive being to preoccupied by an important phone call I needed to make and they deal with me in a very understanding and polite manner. The breakfast exceeded expectations.
Cons: The sound off the air conditioning unit.
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: There was a cockroach in the room.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The price. Got my room extra cheap also the hotel is close to the station and therefore to the Hirosaki loop bus
Cons: The staff was not welcoming at all. I do not mean that they did not speak english but i did not even deserve that they smile back at me - quite strange in Japan... anyway the place was cheap and did the job.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Not very much. The place was quite bad. The bath was nice and deep and the breakfast substantial
Cons: The room stank and was very hot on arrival. The a/c only heated. The beds were hard as planks of wood and pillows just as bad. The room backed onto a railway cargo yard which was incredibly noisy and we needed the window open due to being so hot, smelly and stuffy.
6.3 Good
Pros: the location is perfect, it is very close to the Hirosaki Station, about 3 minutes by walking. The staff dont know speak English, almost all of them were friendly and helpful. They gave me a juice and an apple pie due to the sakura festival in town, which was a good surprise! The room is a good size.
Cons: The Hotel is very old, and have a lot of problems even before you enter in the lobby. The signalization name of the hotel in the top of the building is dirty and falling down. When you look at the building it seems that a fire has occurred and they are clearing the place yet. The furniture is quite old, with spare parts and very hot. I did not have access to an air conditioning control, for example. The bathroom was smelling of pee, and had a leak when it used the flush. There was only one plug available in the room, and in it all the appliances were connected (fridge, TV, lamp). Breakfast has a very tight schedule, from 6:30 am to 9:00 am, and your admission is only accepted until 8:45 am. Also, the employee who was at breakfast warns you that you have to leave at 9:00 a.m. Still in the salon of the breakfast, there is a space covered by cloths, which I believe to be some leak. I used the lobby bathroom and half of the sinks are not working and only one bathrooms of two works. Honestly, I felt at the Hotel Impossible, and I was worried about the safety of the place. Despite the sympathy of the staff, I believe that the hotel needs urgent renovations, because there are leaks everywhere and this can compromise the structures. If it was not crowded in the city with a good location, I would have chosen somewhere else. and I found it expensive by the state of the hotel. I stayed in hostels much more comfortable, clean, safe and with great location, for much less.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The bed was fine and over all it was okay.
Cons: The bathroom smelled bad and the toilet flush leaked. A part of the window sealing was missing, so it was a little cold.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Have mega store in front of this hotel
