Located in the fashionable Galleria and River Oaks District, Hotel Derek is Houston’s premier boutique hotel. If a hotel could have a split personality, then this one is it as business is the theme during the day and pleasure is the preferred at night. This creates a chic place for guests to work, play and stay.

Guests will have 13 different accommodations to choose from at Hotel Derek that offer a refreshingly unique take on a city-scape through rich fabrics, exotic textures, contemporary layouts, hardwood floors and cutting edge technology. Many rooms also boast views of the Galleria and downtown Houston skyline with floor to ceiling windows. The boutique feel is clear with each of these unique features.

Hotel Derek offers Revolve Kitchen and Bar for guests to enjoy dining and craft cocktails at a hip and happening spot. Tap and Pour evolves from AM coffee bar to feature 20 local rotating Texas craft beers in the evening. Starbucks is always close by for that quick shot of preferred caffeine goodness to either get the day going or to push the night even further.

A handful of other amenities add to Hotel Derek’s boutique flair. These include chauffeured car service within a three-mile radius, Sweat 24-7 gym and fitness center, Splash pool and movie wall, a 24-hour Biz Center and superfast WiFi throughout the complex.

Hotel Derek won’t just have guests wanting to return, it might just have them wanting to take up residence in such a fashionable and fun place to stay.

Pros:The hotel amenities were fine, by and large. The location is excellent for shopping, of course.
Cons:Ah, let me count the ways: - There’s some sort of disconnect over self parking, which results in a higher/incorrect(?) charge for already expensive parking. Notably, using the app-and-text method results in a different charge than if one uses the parking machine in the parking garage. Because parking is managed by a third-party, there’s no recourse, at least not an easy one, for any charge adjustment. - Repeatedly, they were deficiencies with the breakfast experience. Of course it’s not included, but that’s not an issue. Instead, on several days items that were listed on the menu were not available thanks repeatedly, they were deficiencies with the breakfast. Of course it’s not included, but that’s not an issue. Instead, on several days items that were listed on the menu were not available (eg, croissants, other breakfast breads). Hardly catastrophic. Far worse, though, was that my significant other was not served adequately or treated with appropriate respect when she ordered breakfast: The coffees were a third under-filled, a request was needed to top them off; the breakfast tacos were tossed up (served) on the bar some distance from her; she was simply told that there were no breakfast breads when she attempted to order them, with that explanation or apologies; and was told she could not pay with cash or credit card, but only a room charge, without explanation. Her suspicion was that she was not treated particularly deferentially because she was not yet dressed for the day; a businessman being served concurrently was treated much more respectfully and deferentially than was my guest. - There were overcharges on the room bill, which required correction at check out. Of course, the “convenience fee“ for the area shuttle bus was neither needed nor welcome. - No one inquired about how we enjoyed our stay, or sought any feedback, including at checkout. - There was a good bit of noise from adjacent rooms, as well as quite a bit of street noise in our (8th floor) room. Although the room was generally clean, the towels were not absorbent. We joked they seemed “coated in Scotchguard”. - The public-area bathrooms in the lobby were not clean or well stocked, and the sink in one of the bathrooms didn’t work at all. - Finally, we sometimes experienced that special arrogant hauteur that staff sometimes affect in high-end hotels. Instead of being generally warm, friendly, and helpful, several times staff seemed curt and uninterested in assisting us. Certainly never welcome.

Pros:location
Cons:staff was rude and not friendly; no spa; we were awaken at 3.30 a.m. by a phone call from the front desk asking about noise.... the noise was not coming from us as we were sleep.

7.1 Good
Pros:Comfortable bed, nice view.
Cons:Parking is $25 a night, the bathroom needed to be cleaner. Also small details like the sheets being upside down (tag at the top).

Cons:We had to pay an extra charge for the self parking. This charge was %40 of the charges I was paying for staying the night.

8.0 Very good
Pros:Boutique hotel feel. Near the Galleria and other shopping and restaurants.
Cons:Fire alarm went off at 5:30 AM. Noticed that some of the lobby furniture and room furnishings looked worn and needed to be updated. Located in a busy area and entering and exiting on Westhimer is difficult.

Pros:Hotel Derek made my money worth, that we even decided to stay an extra day and the front desk workers where very professional and flexible with check out hours.

10.0 Wonderful
Pros:love the surroundings, the quietness and cleanliness of the place...the staff was also wonderful and friendly especially the bartender...although there was one staff that doesn't know the first thing about customer service not really towards me but what I've seen with other guests on 2 occasions.....overall I love the place but there's a few things they can work on because of their price

8.0 Very good
Pros:A family emergency brought me to Houston, and I booked my room online. I loved the urban modern decor. Boutique and trendy - and the decor is my style, but some fixtures were a little dated. Location and self (or optional valet) parking were very convenient.
Cons:Lots of hidden fees: resort fees, "misc tax", parking tax; plus upon check in - after already paying my entire reservation (4 nights), my CC was charged $100/night for "misc". I was prorated some of the $100/nt, but it was still an unexpected expense that I was not aware of $100/nt fee when I booked - or I probably would've cancelled my reservation. Also reserved for 4 nights, but when I tried to extend my stay 2 extra nights, the room rate was much more per night. They did allow me a late check out to decide if I wanted to pay the increased rate - which I greatly appreciated. I ended up checking out of the Derek, and stayed in another hotel in the galleria district those 2 extra nights.
