9.5 Excellent
Pros: Privately owned, not part of a chain. TheAC in the well equipped, clean and comfortable rooms was super chilly - massive benefit on a day when temperatures soared above 35 degrees. The breakfast was perfect and freshly cooked.
Cons: Maybe a small honestly bar and access to basic food such as sandwiches or a very restricted room service menus.

Pros: What a great find. From the charming couple who facilitated my early arrival to the spacious clean en-suite room set in the lovely grounds of their house - Perfect A very comfortable sleep and great breakfast, truly refreshed and recharged for the day ahead.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a lovely B&B set in a beautiful tranquil setting. I like the warm welcome and the ability to make myself a hot drink in the guest kitchen without the need to battle with those horrible little individual sachets that you get in most guest accommodation. The question, "What time would you like breakfast?" Is another of the reasons that I continue to return to Hall Farm. Usually, the staff at the accommodation tell you what time breakfast is and it is generally later than I would like, being an early riser and always needing to leave early The room was clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished. I really appreciated the sofa in my bedroom to relax before bedtime. Breakfast is delicious and freshly cooked to order. I particularly enjoy being able to make my own coffee, just the way I like it as well as my own toast, so that it is fresh and hot.
Cons: Absolutely nothing!

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The food was amazing in the Adjoining Restaurant. I didn't have breakfast in the morning, but the owner advised he would like to give me a packed breakfast. Which was nice. The Cottage was small but homely. Big enough for two.
Cons: Nothing really.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet position away from main bar/restaurant area. Food and wine menu was comprehensive and thoughtful and the owners were proud chefs - not just run of the mill cooks. Excellent breakfast. We only stayed for the one night (visiting friends locally) but it would be suitable for longer stays.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A good English breakfast cooked to order with good coffee and good, quality, fruit juice. Also a very good dinner. Easy to find with extensive car parking. The room was comfortable and provided everything required for a pleasant stay.
Cons: As the Inn is small it is not immediately obvious where to check in although going into the main bar/restaurant does solve this problem quickly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable spacious room. Nice evening meal and beautifully cooked breakfast. Lovely situation and pleasant gardens to sit out in.
Cons: Rather a long wait between courses although I realise the restaurant was very busy being Friday evening.
7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast good room comfortable
Cons: I was appalled that, while I was dining in the evening, a couple with a dog were allowed, not only to bring the dog into the dining room, but let it jump up and down on to the banquette which ran around the edge of the room! When I complained to the young man who was running the bar, he simply said that the couple had asked for permisission to bring the dog in by the management! In all my years, I have never dined in a restaurant which approved such behaviour.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent we came up for a family lunch and arrived about 5pm. Nice welcome, lovely room and although we only had a starter and sweets, the food was superb and excellent value. We would definitely recommend a stay.
Cons: Nothing as you can see from above.

Pros: Always so friendly and welcoming
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast, very dog friendly, nice dog walking area nearby.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely village pub with rooms. Staff were helpful and friendly especially the owner who got up very early to get us breakfast as we had an early start. Food in the pub was delicious
Cons: As a dog friendly inn, could have had a water bowl in the room for the dog and maybe a nice packet of treats for them. Little touches like these are especially appreciated by dog owners!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were really friendly and helpful. Could accommodate my requests for an earlier check in. Helped me to find local attractions. Breakfast was fabulous and the produce locally sourced and exquisite. Will definitely stay again.
The Thorpe Guest House - Huntingdon - Building

9.5 Excellent (107 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Huntingdon, The Thorpe Guest House is a 1-minute drive from The Manor at Hemingford Grey and 6 minutes from Island Hall. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly and fantastic cooked breakfast!
Cons: Nothing it was great!
7.5 Good
Pros: Very well and detailed thought, especially the kitchen was fully equipped, which is very well for someone like myself, who prefers to prep his own meals. The garden was also very lovely as well, to sip your morning coffee, eat your meal on the table provided or enjoy your drinks at night or during sunset. The area is a quiet neighbourhood, you should visit the gastropub nearby, which was recommended by the owner to me (thanks to him again), named “The Cock” or some name contains “Cock”, they cook really great meals and they have a really quiet and lovely outside space as well, especially very relaxing in summer nights. You should also visit the town close by, it’s St Ives, where you will enjoy the river and all charms of the riverside. And lastly the owners, they are great, friendly and very warm people. I would definitely recommend this place.
Cons: There were too many spiderwebs at the corners of the “Dog House”, which meant to me either that room has not been used for a long time or has not been cleaned in detail
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location and ample parking. Situated in a really interesting part of the country.
Cons: Nothing much to talk about
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great - in a small, pretty village just off an A road, but really felt like I'd escaped the rat race for a night. Breakfast was freshly made and delicious
Cons: Nothing.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room in quiet location, hosts were friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to my next stay.
6.3 Good
Pros: Friendly and helpful host. Good breakfast (choice of cheese as alternative to a 'full English'). Good parking facilities.
Cons: Rather meagre 'welcome items' in the room (no decaf coffee nor cookies). Was aware of 'Private Seperate Bathroom' but is through 'public' hallway. Bath was out of order (but shower worked ok). No windows in the room that could be opened (doors to the patio that could be opened but did not like the idea of doors ajar), became stuffy during the night. Price versus facilities: poor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and beautiful house and lovely hosts.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: really lovely place
Cons: tiny thing but kettle near a plug so I didn't have to move it to boil it
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast service is excellent, the furnishings beautiful, the shower gel and shampoo luxurious. Most of all, the cottage is delightfully relaxing. A little haven in a lovely village. Perfect for what we needed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked absolutely everything. It's extremely spacious. Lots of thoughtful touches that make a huge difference when you are travelling all the time. Breakfast is absolutely delicious and I love the ease of cooking it when it suits me and not having to dress to go to a communal breakfast room. Everything is done to such a high standard. I can't recommend it enough!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This place is hard to fault. A "home from home" experience; beats staying in a hotel any day.
Cons: The location over the weekend was inconvenient only because of the road closures on the A14 (no fault of the property/owner!) which meant an extra 30 minutes to get into Cambridge or Huntingdon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was absolutely stellar. The proprietors were lovely and the bed was the comfiest I've ever slept in. I wish I could have spent more than about 18 hours there (quick visit with friend 2 lots over)! Definitely plan on going back!
Cons: Honestly, it all was perfect. The hosts were very kind - I have stomach issues so I wasn't able to partake in much of the breakfast other than the yogurt, but the fruit sure looked yummy!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent cottage, well planned & the added extras are a lovely touch.
Cons: Nothing.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice food next door in the golf house , great for walks or jogs
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The beds were very comfortable and the shower was fantastic. The only niggle with the room is that there was only one bedside table and one lamp, so it made reading difficult for the person on the side without a table & lamp. I was initially disappointed with the thought of a Continental breakfast, but the quality and selection that was offered was good and of high quality, I would still have preferred a cooked breakfast. All in all the standard was very high, and definitely showed care and attention, so many little touches (like fresh milk for hot drinks in the bedroom and cotton wool balls in the bathroom) made a noticeable and much appreciated touch. I would definitely recommend The Old Grain Store.
Cons: I really missed not having a cooked breakfast.
8.8 Excellent

Pros: Friendly and homely
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We received a warm welcome and made to feel relaxed and at home despite our late booking and arriving at 9.30pm. Our room and en-suite were lovely and the countryside view in daylight beautiful. We loved the house and grounds which had a more formal area of garden as well as conservation areas and pools for wild flora and fauna to thrive. It was a delight to walk round the grounds after breakfast with plants alive with insects and butterflies and see content cows and calves in the field.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Lovely big bedroom and big bathroom with separate bath and shower and all rooms beautifully furnished. Excellent breakfast with good selection. Beautiful garden and they have further farm acreage beyond that of the main garden. They have pointer dogs which have kennels outside but the dogs do not enter guest areas. Pros: Fran - the go-to lady was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Beds were very comfortable and the linen very good. Breakfast was very good, cooked well and plentiful and dinning area and courtyard really delightful. The property is charming, with very nice decor. Proximity to pub just a couple of doors down with excellent food was an unexpected bonus.
Cons: The Chalice is on a main road and room was warm which required windows being open - noisy ! There is a lot of construction going on in the village - again, noisy. The bathroom had sloping ceiling which meant small bath and only hand held shower fitting. Was ok as only staying 1 night
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast, fresh local produce more than enough to eat. Very clean and comfortable and short drive to Cambridge as that's where we wanted to visit.
Cons: Slight confusion about payment as paid via booking.com on 8th May to receive early booking discount then asked to pay again on arrival !!!.

Great breakfast (in lovely breakfast room) included in the price - very good value. Nearby pub very good for evening meal - good menu, food and prices.
Cons: Nothing - it was lovely. If I really had to nitpick it was a little too warm.

Cons: our stay was perfect, no bad comments to make at all
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We paid separately for a lovely cooked breakfast from the restaurant and were happy not to have the continental breakfast included in our price. We loved the soundproofed room and windows and the vintage style decor and furniture. We were very happy with the small basic room as it was actually a nice size for two people staying one night. The bathroom was a nice size too. We loved having dinner in the restaurant and then having our bottle of wine and desert chocolates brought up to our room by the waiter. A romantic historic hotel. Car park is outside at the back, but felt safe.
Cons: There was no elevator, and we didn't feel comfortable giving our heavy cases to the female reception staff to carry up the stairs (but we did let her bring up the lighter of the two).

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Decent sized rooms, very comfortable beds, excellent flatscreen TV, plenty of parking, parking areas well maintained. Staff were really nice and acted on my request for a quiet room (there was a wedding on while I was staying), so I was 100% happy with the accommodation. Nice to have a pool. Bar drinks were not too badly priced by hotel standards.
Cons: My only criticism is that you can't connect to wifi without going down to reception to specifically request access and going through some sort of sign-up procedure, which is annoying, and out of step with most hotels these days where they give you the password upon check-in, or have all the necessary details in your room.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Massive choice at breakfast and very good service in the bar on Saturday night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very tidy and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. It was a shame we were staying only the one night.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Kids loved the pool and I liked the prompt service when there was a problem with the tv. Restaurant staff were wonderful especially Fran. Thank you.
Cons: The perfume smell in the lobby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food and bed was excellent
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: I liked the pool facilities
Cons: I didnt like switching on the hotel hairdryer and it starts smoking then flames were shooting from it and the bottom if ny hair waa singed. I took the hairdryer to reception i explained what happened they just said sorry about that we will put a replacement in the room. We didnt hear another thing. A £150 was taken from out account on arrival incase if any damages. What about the damages amd anxiety i had to endure?
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We had both breakfasts and evening meals in the hotel and they were all excellent.
Cons: The roads around Huntingdon do not make life easy for a traveller who is new to the area.
6.8 Good
Cons: Unhelpful staff and attitude. Don’t think they wanted to be there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful service and hotel.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was better than the continental detailed when booking, although the quality of some of the food was very poor. I had to discreetly spit something out, this is something I cannot remember ever doing before. Bed was comfy. The sign when leaving.
Cons: This is by far the worst 4* hotel I have ever stayed in. A disgrace to the brand. If you want a good hotel locally then I recommend the Hilton, it’s not far and leagues ahead. I actually don’t want to relive the experience of the stay and list everything I didn’t like, it was shocking and unpleasant the first time.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff where excellent helpful friendly
Cons: Shower Gel was attached to hook outside shower room????
4.2 Okay
Pros: The location is very good, and the room we stayed in was big and quiet. The hotel has a wonderful courtyard if you go for lunch or drinks in good weather.
Cons: There were cobwebs on the windows, and old dust on the furniture. The doors leading to the ground floor rooms had not been cleaned for some time, and the furniture in the lobby is old and uncomfortable. There is no lift and nobody to help with your luggage up a long staircase. The staff tries hard but there are not enough persons to do the job.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our bed was amazingly comfy! Didnt want to get out of bed in the morning!!
Cons: The cooked breakfast that was included in our stay was horrendous. Did not enjoy any of it. My partner saw what my breakfast looked like and refused the breakfast.
7.5 Good
Pros: Character of the building
Cons: Tired in need of attention
6.3 Good
Pros: The location suited where I needed to be for getting to work. Friendly staff. That's all.
Cons: The breakfast was either over or under cooked - Scrambled eggs (that I had with Smoked Salmon) were so over microwaved that you could bounce them on the plate. Sausages with the Full English were pale and seemed under cooked; baked beans and mushrooms were on the cold side of luke warm. More importantly, over the quality of food, the door to the rooms do not feel secure - even wit the door shut and locked the door has movement on it! The quality of the room is poor - Uneven, shaky floors, decor needs a bit of love and the bathroom needs much maintenance - Fix the scratched away paintwork in the bath, provide a bath mat as standard rather than have to ask. It is clearly slippery when wet. Shouldn't have to "request" a safety feature. Weatherspoons Sandford House is 100% better.
6.8 Good
Pros: Good location - easy walking distance from the station. Staff were friendly. Good choice of food.
Cons: The state of repair/decoration of the bedrooms and walkways - especially the bathrooms. The tables/chairs are not automatically cleaned/wiped after people leave and so there are crumbs/sticky tables etc that you need to ask to be cleaned. Lunch service was a bit slow and haphazard. Breakfast and dinner service was better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: breakfast good, its an old building showing a little wear and tear but very clean and comfortable and excellent staff and a friendly atmosphere will use again if ever in the area
Cons: nothing
4.5 Okay
Pros: The room was a good size.
Cons: There was a wedding on which we weren’t told about when checking in. We heard every song word for word. Great music but couldn’t contemplate sleep until 1ish! The property is single glazed and on the corner of a busy Main Street one way system. It also appears to be the meeting point for taxi pickups for lots of drunken people. Awoken at 3am by a young lady going for it at her (now ex) partner. A great round of effing and jeffing followed by numerous ‘C’ bombs right outside the window soon brought us round from our slumber. There had been lots of earlier drunken antics and swearing outside at around 2ish but the woman at 3 won the foul mouth contest hands down! There was also a nice hole in the bathroom window so the noise could reach us more easily! We were awoken at 8am by lots of banging. Not from another hotel room but it was obviously a good time to pack away the tables and chairs from the previous evenings wedding. It was a nice room but no water in the room for a drink and my wife found a wedding dress carrier behind the sofa from a few weeks before. Useful if she ever gets married again! When checking out the receptionist didn’t even ask if we had enjoyed our stay and didn’t really seem that bothered. I suggested they invest in double glazing. The most annoying thing was that when booking we didn’t know the area. If considering staying in Huntingdon, spend a little bit more and stay at the Old Bridge Hotel at the other end of town. By the river and a very pleasant environment where we enjoyed drinks in the sunshine. Lovely staff as well.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very helpful and ensured there were fans in our rooms and the curtains closed prior to our visit due to the abnormally high temperatures that week. The rooms were comfortable and the food delicious.
Cons: Air conditioning could have helped but not expected, especially in an older pub.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect! You could walk to everything you need. The staff were amazing - felt like family.
Cons: The only thing that would have made this better was to have air conditioning.
