Pros: The style and design , and stuff
Cons: There was not much choice for dinner only one dish.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed a wonderful week at Mama Root Guesthouse. The place is wonderful, the people are very nice and friendly. We can higly recommend the meals there, the cook is an artist. If you visit the South, this is the place to stay! Kochamy Mama Root!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay here. I have to say that this place has an amazing territory, very quiet and stylish. The dinner and breakfast was great, owners were very nice. If I could go there for a longer time I would definitely do it)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is beautifully decorated and peaceful. Olivia is exceptional, always here to help and fun if you get to know her. We had some of our best meals at Mama Roots, with delicious vegetarian/vegan options. Also good wifi connection in the common spaces. Mama Roots is right in the middle of Kizimkazi village, which is worth walking around. The beach is also beautiful, but we recommend guests to have/bring underwater shoes, as some spots are quite covered with sea urchins.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This picturesque place allowed us to spend some lovely days. Just a few steps to the beach and (depending on the tides) sea and very kind and supportive hosts made our stay extremely pleasant. The food was delicious. If you search for a place to spend some quiet and relaxed days, you'll definetly find it there! Thank you very much!
Cons: -
9.3 Excellent
Pros: As mentioned in a lot of reviews before, Oliwia the owner of Mama Root makes the stay incredibly awesome. She really lives the style of being a great host, always prepares great meals and is super nice. So I can highly recommend this place. A lot if possibilities like Hammocks to just hang around on the property and the beach is directly in front of you.
Cons: The village is pretty quiet, nothing bad at all and if you're searching for a quiet place then Mama Root is perfect. The rooms aren't super fancy or new, still worth the price.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing! The owner and the staff are great people. The food was delicious and the location beautiful and quiet in the south , it doesn’t feel as full of tourists as the rest of the island . If you want more animation you can go to Paje in 20 minutes! It is truly an amazing place! We are looking forward to come back and we hope we will be on the brochure :-)
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location and beautiful accommodation. Very peaceful and quiet. Lots of lovely, comfy places to relax and watch the fishermen do their thing. Olivia is a wonderful host - very friendly and always available if you have any questions. Breakfast was superb. I really enjoyed all the fresh spices. Olivia cooks a special dinner every night. You can order something else but most people go for the special dish of the day. The setting is quite romantic - with fresh flowers and fairy lights. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid-back. Lots of snorkel trips leave from Kizimkaze so if that's on your list then this is a good place to be.
Cons: They don't serve lunch so you have to go into the village or go to another hotel for that. This was not a problem for me, just something to be aware of.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dear Oliwia and Zube. Thank you very much for your best guesthouse in Zanzibar. This was our first experience to stay in a guesthouse. It was excellent. Your attitude to the guests, this atmosphere, delicious food, views of the ocean and a powerful and at the same time pleasant wind from the ocean, make this place fantastic and unforgettable. It was the best place on the island. Thank you very much. Zubery special thanks and greetings from Igor)))
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Olivia goes beyond in order to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Great breakfast. The location is perfect to stay at for a couple of nights. For longer stays, day trips are to be advised. Overall, Olivia exceeded our expectations - great host.

Pros: I strongly recommend this accomodation. Its really beautiful in the middle of the trees at a fisher village.
Cons: Internet signal can be a problem if you really need that.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was really good! i had a burger and my boyfriend had the local chips majai! The staff was so friendly, they make us feel very welcome! we will come back another time ! also they organized a taxi. The room was very good. Jenny and her team maked our stay unforgettable. My boyfriend and i we dont have enough time together, but at the lodge we had the time of our lives!! Thanks to the staff!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome and funny staff :D Clean and beautiful. Recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Jenny is the most wonderful host. I had the pleasure of staying at Mnana Lodge 2 years ago and was happy to return this summer. The location is superb, beautiful empty beaches. The staff, Jenny and Aristo are amazing - and they have the best food on the island!! The best spot to stay on the island for sure, can highly recommend it to anyone. The dorm room is by far the best I have ever stayed in, and the private rooms are pretty, clean and super comfy. We will be back soon, this place is perfect.
7.5 Good
Pros: The owner was really friendly and helpful. The other staff were also polite and friendly. They arranged our pick up and drop up, as well as, a trip to the forest. The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing. The location is a short walk from town with access to boat trips and the beach. It is also a short walk from other beaches and resorts nearby. The food at the restaruant was delicious. I would recommend the pasta dishes.
Cons: The rooms were decent given the price, but with no AC, and relatively little air flow we were cooking at night. The bush babies on the roof were also highly active and thus I would suggest ear plugs. We ultimately cut our stay short, as we had already spent a few very quiet days on the east coast, and as relaxing as the atmosphere was, we were ready to explore Stone Town.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and helpful staff, great atmosphere, comfortable room.
Cons: There wasn't a big choice in the restaurant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Jenny and stuff (especially Andrea) were amazing. Jenny treated us like her children and helped with lot of stuff (taxi, medicines, bikes, tours). She is caring, helpful, full of understanding and easy going. Andrea prepares bonfire everyday, ladies clean rooms everyday, food at Jenny's restaurant is amazing! Our stay was very positive and full of beautiful memories. Really recommend this place for chill and relax.
Cons: Nothing particularly bad or wrong. Maybe sometimes breakfast might be little bit more various but still it was delicious :)

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were fantastic!
Cons: The chairs in the lounge/tv room are uncomfortable
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I liked what everybody else did...
Cons: I was not tempted to swim in the ocean, nor did I see anyone doing it. The beach looked muddy/rock-ish at low tide, with coarse sand. If not done through the hotel, taxi from/to airport and the tours ( giant turtles, spicy tour, swimming with dolphins) are aprox 25% cheaper, keeping the same quality (see suntransfers for taxi and omaryguideatgmaildotcom for tour guide) You need to fill up an entry and an exit form for entering/exiting the country, although no one seems to give attention to what you wrote in there... but better if you can fill it in advance. to avoid the after queue... Have 10-20 usd in 1 dollar note when you do the tours... people expect a small tip from you in exchange of their paid services...
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic rooms. And facilities
Cons: The beach is almost unusable due to low tides
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stayed at the oceanfront villa with a private pool - lovely romantic setup, privacy and deco that is super clean and turn down service was on point.
Cons: We ordered room service breakfast the whole time we were there but each time they never got the order right. Each villa had bicycles that we only rode the first day and we never saw them after that as much as we requested for them. Activities need to be booked in advance and are overpriced. An external private travel agency is half the price.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic for relaxation and wellness break
Cons: Needs a more ‘inclusive’ all inclusive drinks menu
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff! The were so friendly, so kind and so so welcoming. Truly the best hotel staff I’ve ever come across.
Cons: The lack of variety of the food, especially breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing! They were very welcoming and attentive. When I told them my wife and I were celebrating our honeymoon they went over and beyond to make our stay special.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The pool was incredible and the room was lovely. I had to leave at 530 am for a flight and they bought breakfast to my room at 5 am - it was very impressive.
Cons: Everything was great.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stunning in every aspect from food to views to the beach to the room everything was perfect
Cons: Gym could’ve been a bit bigger. Got a little busy at times. And the drinks are s bit expensive

Pros: The property we stayed in had amazing views. The staff were helpful, the food was limited but tasted good.
Cons: Not exactly about the property, but the location was slightly isolated - there was not much to do around the resort. The menu was very limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant location and staff. Extremely quite and very convenient location
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location, helpful friendly staff, Kool decor and layout with nice touches
Cons: Scratchy sheets, and no black out to windows... Food à little expensive
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely private beach, beautiful sunsets & friendly staff.
6.8 Good
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful despite the trouble we had communicating. Beach was pretty and even the beach boys were courteous and would take no for an answer (unlike in Kenya). Beds were good.
Cons: The food was the worst part of our stay. It was poorly prepared and inconsistent. Basics, like scrambled eggs and toast were acceptable but beyond it was hard to communicate to staff what you wanted and even omelets often ended up with ingredients we didn't want. The King Prawns were one of the worst meals I have ever had in Africa. Location was a long ways from most attractions and so it meant long and expensive rides.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: What a great setting on the South coast of Zanzibar, staff helpful, rooms comfortable, food reasonably priced, great swimming pool
Cons: our 2nd night at property we had to move rooms due to other bookings we were moved Room 7 is unfortunately located next to pressure pump, so we were subjected pump switching on and off the whole night.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Aya Beach is a peaceful place for a people who prefer quiet, loneliness and beautiful sunsets.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Don't miss the restaurant, food and service is amazing...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in Room No 1, next to sea, it was great. Had everything we needed. Stayed with B&B option, breakfast was the standard Zanzibar fare. Bought supper at restaurant in the evening, good value and plenty enough.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The athmosphere at the hotel is excelent, the staff is 100% with their attention, and the most positive thing is the smils and service provided in very aspect! It seems like a very well managed hotel, and i must name our butler from our villa mr. Tadeo who provided us in the very best ways!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing warm and friendly staff! Accommodations were divine. It was heaven on earth
6.3 Good
Pros: The place is quite and you have a beautiful view while sunbathing.
Cons: We booked a tour to stonetown a day in advance for 2 people. on the day of the event we were told that not only we had to leave 30 min later than planned but also that 4 other people would come with us. we especially asked the day before if we could organise the tour with the guide as we want. of course this wasn't possible anymore withe the additional 4 people. we received no real compensation for this an had to pay the hole price. after a discussion with the responsible person we received a 15 USD discount. this was defenitly not enought since we lost almost a day at the hotel resort and couldn't do the things we wanted while visiting stonetown. we did miss an included breakfast and weren't compensated for that. (it was because our flight was leaving early. other hotels would pack you a breakfast box for travel or offer you one of your other meals) pickup from the airport was not included. booking does not mention this. (60 USD per transport)
7.5 Good
Pros: Comfortable rooms. Good and friendly staff
Cons: Nothing so far.. Drinks over price comparison to other resorts
9.5 Excellent
Pros: everything was excellent especially the food manager Amour.
Cons: the place is like a heaven
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is wonderful. Quite, peaceful, but always charming and looking really comfortable. People working in the hotel are really nice, always smiling. We also loved a lot to talk with the general manger who is really nice And professional.
Cons: I didn’t like food. It’s a buffet formula but honestly quality was not so great. I really didn’t appreciated breakfast and diner. Lunch On the beach or swimming pool is much better. Water activities are quite bad. Impossible to use it.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice and clean pool area. The staff were very friendly and always willing to assist. The rooms were kept in good and clean condition. I liked the sense of safety within the premises of the resort, that was great.
Cons: The internet is slow and always had intermittent issues. Management needs to invest in this as customers need the ability to be connected to the world. I missed out on a lot of sport due to this issue. The food was honestly not that great, although there was variety, the food didn't have a lot of taste. The fruits used in producing the juice were not ripe, the juice didn't taste great. The bacon was soaking in oil and was poorly done. The scrambled eggs didn't look appetizing at all during breakfast. The staff's attention was hard to obtain, often having to shout to get their attention, this was mostly by the pool area.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The property is quiet and located in quiet surroundings. It’s like an oasis to escape to which offers peace, refreshment and enjoyment. We stayed in one of the jungle villas with sea views. We loved having the butler and true to form Jasper was exceptionally attentive and efficient. He made sure our stay was enjoyable and smooth.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice resort, friendly staff, good food.
Cons: We could not stay on the beach due to strong wind that was blowing non-stop.

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Imma go in record and just say: i loved EVERYTHING
Cons: Not what i didn’t like but rather a suggestion that they should add a duvet in their beddings, it somehow gets really cold at night. That’s it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was a paradise on earth. We felt so relaxed and chilled immediately when we arrived. Stunning view, white sand, palm trees, hammocs, very nice and friendly staff and you don’t necessarily need to leave the place if you just want to relax (there is not any shops at the venue so make sure you’ve got all the personallista Irene you need with you. The restaurant was also good and the staff comes to you every day with the daily menu to ask what you would like for lunch and dinner. We stayed there for eight days and visited Stone Town for one day. It was a good trip but was very nice to go back to our lodge and paradise after that. One of the nicest places I have ever visited. Highly recommended!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the place. Clean, comfortable, all inclusive - you can eat there, drink there, hang out in the garden, swim in the pool. Amazing view to the ocean.
Cons: It was kind of far away from everything else. No beach - you need to walk half an hour to the nearest beach or take a daladala from the village. So it's great for chilling, not a good base camp if you want to a travel and explore.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Promised Land Lodge is a well deserved name for that place. There is not much more to do than enjoying the place. So you don't need to spend more than a few days there, because, there is nothing to do. But if you need to relax, it's the right place to go. Swimming pool is very nice, rooms are huge. Everything is clean and lovely. Staff is great.
Cons: Because it's far from anything, we remained in the same place and ate at the restaurant every day. Food is OK but the finale bill is very expensive.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Delicious food, wonderful staff!
Cons: Nothing
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Shower water salad (sea water) and cold. The food is reheat (cooking one hour ago, at less). Our discount for this problem was only 4 dolars (1 per person), it's a joke. In the breakfast, the coffee make with salad water!! Os amazing! And a beer was already opened and without gas. The music was constantly cut, because It is online, It is an internet defect. The isn't beach, is clifft. Only with a lot of algae . It was imposible to swim. There is cats and dogs lying in the hammocks, disturbing. The personal likes little careful. It is "regee hotel", with a score that is not real.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good, restaurant staff very friendly and polite
5.7 Okay
Pros: friendliness, nature, pool
Cons: cleanliness, a lack of beach access, cost/offering ratio, road access, shower
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The menu for lunch and dinner is brought around to all the guests so that one can choose before the time what you want to eat. Service in the restaurant is fast because of this.
Cons: It would be a good idea to consider vegetarian options for breakfast -there were none other than fruit. Perhaps a buffet-type breakfast would be a good idea.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff, food and service
Cons: Surrounding area, lack of real beach access
5.0 Okay
Pros: Swimmng pool, bar and hammocks.
Cons: Unpleasant staff during breakfast, noise from the kitchen starting at 6 am, location terrible, in the middle of nowhere, poor breakfast, even fruits weren’t fresh, coffee terrible. Dinner small, expensive and tasteless

8.6 Excellent (61 reviews)
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This is good place for relax.
7.0 Good
Pros: We liked it because it’s just right on the beach. It is in the village Dimbani, which is quite far from anything else. But this is what we wanted. The staff was very nice and approachable, but I would say it’s in their culture. I like the quietness of the place and privacy as well. We would like to thank to all the stuff who were amazing towards us and as well to the local people around who really made our stay memorable.
Cons: We didn’t like that they don’t provide you drinking water but they notify you about it once you reach there. The shuttle is not included, and as it’s an hour and a half from the airport, we payed around 100$ both ways(first was taxi, second organized by hotel) Some of the rooms are not as they are on the photos. As well, it’s written WiFi but you can get it only on the reception and sometimes it works, sometimes not. Our second room, after four days when we changed, was much much different then the first one. The first one, when we wanted to change to a bigger one, the staff said 125$ per night, which we found absurd. The net against the mosquitos and bugs was torne in the first room so it didn’t help us much until the owner moved us to a second room which was very nice. Second room, the bathroom was having hot water, beds were clean, sheets without stains and nets free of any holes. Our advice is that you check the room properly when you check in before you accept the room, because we were so exhausted from the trip that we just wanted to take some rest.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location overlooking the small fishingvillage. Super friendly and attentive staf. Great seafish food under the Zanzibar Moon. We would love to come back!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Dinner at night, It is pricy, but it is really good! Everybody so friendly and making jokes. feeling great atomosphere because it is a good team at Karamba. Organizing tours we did via via, but Gemma can also organize great tours!
Cons: you can hardly swim .if you ar not afraid of sea urgents, and have really good watershoes you are fine. But we loved the swimming pool!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I loved the location, it is in nature not so many tourist and the beach is wonderful
Cons: A bit overpriced restaurant for Africa The food is good
9.3 Excellent
Pros: An amazing place with good energies. The staff are courteous, the atmosphere pleasant, the food - amazing! The beach is very beautiful and there is easy access from the rizot itself and easy access to the nearby public beach. A pleasant pool.
Cons: Was beyond the budget we assumed
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a beautiful place to stay. We rented a little cottage by the beach for our honeymoon and it couldn't have been better. The owners are delightful and service oriented and they organised trips for us to eat lobster on a sandbank, and to swim with dolphins. We were in the water face to face with a dozen of them in the water and it was one of the most notable experiences of our lives.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: If you wish to have a quiet joyful time I strongly recommend you to come here. This is one of the best hotel I have ever stayed, I am not talking about how luxray it is, but this hotel makes me feel natural, relax and comfortable. And the food here provided in this hotel is best around Kizimkazi area compare to other restaurant. The beach in front of our room is super, we can enjoy the beautiful sunset directly from our room. Staff are very friendly and always very helpful. This is one of the best experience in my life.
Cons: Last night during our stay, there were some annoying guests talk loudly in the public area and it was already around 1 or 2 AM and after that they played pop music via a music amplifier loudly which disturbed the quiet night. But other than that evening everyday is perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is quiet and incredibly relaxing. The staff were excellent and very attentive .
8.0 Excellent
Pros: If you are looking for a quiet spot in Zanzibar, this place is great. There's a nice view of the ocean hanging off a sort of cliff/edge, and it's right next to a fishing village.
Cons: If you're looking for a long white sandy beach to stroll on and from which to swim, this may not be your best bet. But there are boats to take you to dans banks etc.

Pros: it's starting point for sea trips. so if u want to visit safari blue or see dolphins, start here, no at north. you save a lot of time and energy and money ;)
Cons: less opportunities for social life. local pub nothing for visiting
6.3 Good
Pros: Great breakfast, staff friendly, location
Cons: Power cut-outs, Wi-Fi was working only the half of the time, water was leaking all the time in the bathroom. Really basic bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: great relax place with excellent staff thanks for the great welcome I love you all
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Fatima the owner is great, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was immense
Cons: The manger got drunk and had me waiting for trips to the point I had to cancel. Overcharged me in comparison to other guests for Dolphin trip and scuba. Then tried to double the cost of a taxi under the guise of ‘helpfullness’. Also be careful if changing money with him. Check the rates to confirm
6.8 Good
Cons: Bed bugs. Water WiFi and electricity was on and off all the time
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were great, location was incredible. Food and service was quick and professional. Very relaxing time.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very nice and friendly, helpful.. the prices for restoration were fair, the Lodge is just in front of a wonderful beach, with fishing boats and transparent water!
Cons: There was electricity issues in the whole area, not due to the property.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely helpful. They even cooked us what we wanted. Thanks Francesco,Zakariya and the lady for making our stay really memorable. The location is amazing and it's also very safe. The only improvements I can suggest is that they should make the electric sockets a bit safe as once I got an electric shock and also be a little bit quicker in their service at breakfast. But overall it was a really pleasant experience. This is the best hotel to stay at if you want to go see the dolphins as all the boats depart from this side. Also the beach has amazing sunset views.A little further up the beach the sand is as smooth as clay.
Cons: Less choice of food for vegetarians although they cooked a great meal of chhapatis, potato curry, rice and spinach for lunch for us.The bathrooms have no doors which was initially shocking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breathtaking view with beautiful sunset, the whole area is amazing. The staff is very kind and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also excellent.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay in Ocean Breeze lodge. Location is amazing and beautiful. Breakfast was excellent. Our host Fatima was very kind and staff was always smilling and helpful. I appreciate very good communication as well. Thank you for everything!
Cons: Everything was good

Pros: Makes you feel at ease right away. Excellent management, personalized attention to the small things that make you feel special, prices are all inclusive and plenty of add-ons like high tea that more commercial properties charge separately for. On-site dive center for dives and early morning dolphin watching/ swimming. In the forest with views of the ocean so the best of both worlds.
Cons: If I had to say something, it would be that while the property is on the ocean, it does not have a long sand beach.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel, location and staff.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location was idyllic and the staff were very friendly. Great to have monkeys and other wildlife so close. Food portions were small but delicious and perfectly adequate. As we were the only guests on one night the staff set up our dinner table overlooking the sea - lovely touch.
Cons: Massively overpriced at £320 a night in the low season. The facilities were minimal and poor quality within the lodge, it was a large building but we could not sit there after dark as the lighting was so poor. Quality of fixtures and fittings leaves a lot to be desired. The place needs a rethink and a large injection of cash to justify the price.
