9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, updated, large rooms and nice amenities.
Cons: The TV shut down every 2 minutes and needed restarting. The settings were locked so it could not be fixed. The city of Chalon was deceiving and filled with dog feces and smelled horrible throughout the city.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quaint in a lovely location.
Cons: The toilet was just a cupboard in the bedroom. Not what you’d expect for 4 star.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and air con in room Staff where super helpful and really nice. Fantastic restaurants in town too
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the breakfast.
Cons: There are no drawers in the room which is ok if staying for one night but makes it a bit difficult if staying for longer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. The location is very good, quiet yet just a few minutes walk to the centre. The nicest part was the staff, they were all friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay!
8.8 Excellent
Cons: A bar would be nice in the evening
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location very nice decor
Cons: I have stayed here many times but have to say the price is getting very expensive for what it is
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good secure parking (pre-book) with a space labelled on arrival. Two friendly and helpful ladies on reception. They proposed a restaurant for dinner, different from the one I had identified and their recommendation proved good. The room was clean and what I expected. Breakfast was good. It turned out to be a good pick as a stop-over and we got on our way in the morning relaxed and refreshed.
Cons: Nothing to report.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly.
Cons: Decaf coffee at breakfast would have been nice.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We were within a short walk from the centre of town. Parking is a big issue so the fact we did not use our car for two days was a big bonus, we paid extra for reserved parking at the hotel which was worth every penny. Lots of restaurants in town with good food. There was lift which is not always available in a relatively small boutique type of hotel. Would be happy to return
Cons: Limited bar facilities on site

Cons: We stayed only one night and did not find much to complain about. The only thing is the restaurant nearby that was recommended by the owner. It was not great, I am sure that in France one could do better.

Its an old converted farm so there is plenty of room for kids to play and let off some steam after being stuck in the car for hours, they enjoyed the swings and the trampoline. We requested ahead and the owner cooked us dinner which was excellent value for money.
Cons: Its in a very small French village so not a lot nearby at all if you're the type that likes to go out on foot of an evening.

Pros: Breakfast was way beyond our expectations. Location set in the Champagne region was beautiful and very quiet. As we were heading south after disembarking from the cross channel ferry in Calais, it provided a short ride through the lovely countryside not too far from the main highway.
Cons: Nothing could have been better. It was just what we needed.

Pros: Lovely large room and bathroom with big showers and good quality decor. Quiet country location with only 4 rooms. Very comfortable bed. Good choice of breakfast and very friendly helpful family team who run the place. Also loved the help yourself honesty bar with reasonable prices. Great location on route through France as only 3 hrs to Calais. We did a fleeting stopover but would have liked to visit local vineyards!!
Cons: Not a major issue by any means but just to be aware you need to drive 15-20 mins to a very lovely restaurant as nothing in the village or nearby. It was however worth it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect for us as we were en route to Reims No restaurant in the village but the guest house owners were more than happy to book a table for an evening meal at a local hotel

Pros: What a lovely place - so clean, peaceful and comfortable, we had a lovely stay at Le Mas Champenois. Brigitte is the perfect hostess, making us so welcome whilst also giving us our own space. She was also very patient with my limited French, and I cannot imagine anything would have been too much trouble. We were attending a wedding nearby and Brigitte was happy to help with taxi arrangements etc - much appreciated by us.
Cons: Nothing, we had a lovely time.

Pros: A very nice property.Pleasant swimming pool and sun bathing area.House was very nicely appointed and bedroom good. Breakfast was very good and we were able to have our own food in the evening and not have to go out to eat.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The bedroom was lovely with a nice view of the garden and pool. The breakfast was very nice.
Cons: The man who greeted us when we arrived too early could have been nicer. He just held up 5 fingers and said 'cinq' and when we tried to ask him if we could leave the car and walk into town he did the same. Not very pleasant! When we returned after 'cinq' he was very welcoming.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The whole property is equipped and furnished to a very high standard. Brigitte is an absolutely charming lady and extremely helpful.

Cons: Great place to stay, value for the money. Quiet, lots of green, very nice host! We had a nice evening and common dinner together with an Australian couple.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very conveniently located for journey back from South of France. Although it seems like it is a detour from the Autoroute in reality you come off at one junction, travel parallel with the motorway, stay overnight and then rejoin at the next junction north. Also, very much liked the quiet room with good en suite facilities.
Cons: An extra power socket closer to the bed... but I might have been looking in the wrong place.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cafe, restaurant and the room were wonderful. The owner and staff were really quite amazing. La Maison De Marie Caroline is a real find. I honestly did not want to leave. This was at the end of a long three weeks bike tour of Europe and was a true breath of fresh air. Chalons en Champagne is a really nice town with a good mix of sites and restaurants.
Cons: Having to leave

Cons: All excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This little hotel was perfect!
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The Maison is located very centrally to the town, everything is in easy walking distance. We would have had dinner in the Maison's restaurant, but it only operates at weekends - however, there was an abundance of alternatives. We chose one of the restaurants recommended (for regional cuisine) by the host and we were not disappointed. The host also described a good route of our early morning run - through the nearby park, via a wide boulevard to a alongside track. The covered market (a short walk away) was exceptional. Not only was all the produce (fruit, vegetables, fish, meat) fresh and enticing, but it was displayed with real pride.
Cons: It was advertised as 'nearby free parking' but it's only free 7.00pm-9.00am (ie overnight). That said, the parking was very nearby, not difficult to find (with sat nav) and cheap.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location was great. Continental breakfast was nice.
Cons: Room was a bit small.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely restaurant and hotel with vegetarian food options.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Owner managed - very personal attention. Large patio, kitchen, dining, lounge, games room area. Off-street parking. Good recommendations from hostess for dining and activities.
Cons: Limited continental breakfast selection - cheese would have been an added bonus.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Not much to appreciate!
Cons: Nearly everthing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Large room, comfortable bed. Good value for money. The place has rustic charm and the owner was really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine for us as we don’t eat a great deal, plenty of bread, croissants and home made jam. Freshly made coffee. Possibility to help yourself to drinks, honesty box. Secure parking, easy walk to local restaurant, which was ok but a bit pricey for an overdone piece of pork and mash.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The host was charming and made great efforts to ensure our stay was comfortable. We arrived very late and needed early breakfast the next morning and all our needs were accommodated. One of our children spilled hot chocolate all over the lovely dining area (table, chair, carpet and sibling!) and they couldn't have been more understanding and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and the area looked lovely - if we had had time for a walk, we would have definitely gone exploring. It is a little way off the main highway, but that added to the peace and quiet. If we are passing that way in future, we will definitely book again.
Cons: The only slight challenge was that I hadn't realised we would need to pay cash until the day we were leaving, which meant a bit of a rush around to make sure we had enough Euros.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Accommodation really good. Plenty of room both in house and garden. Proprietor very pleasant and welcoming. Enjoyed relaxing in the large garden. Would be great for families with children given the amount of space. Secure parking a bonus.
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, very secure parking. I was the only guest so had the house to myself which was very nice. Host very friendly and helpful.
Cons: All was good.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcome, comfortable lovely location.
7.5 Good
Pros: Charming place with a big garden!
Cons: No resturants in the village, the only pizzeria tjat was open did not have time for us they said. So better eat in Chalon en chp.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Melania was very friendly.
Cons: It was all fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner was lovely and helpful. The room in a charming old building was spacious and really tastefully decorated and the garden gave a really nice atmosphere. There was a kitchen facility which we would I'm sure use if staying again, as the local restaurant was a pizzeria and, while very good, pizza is not my favourite. Breakfast was lovely with great fresh bread, croissants, preserves etc. Highly recommended.
Cons: A good restaurant that offers something other than pizza within walking distance would have been great but that's being really picky! It was a great place.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent value. Nice apartment for a family. Friendly and helpful hosts
7.5 Good
Pros: It was a self-contained apartment with kitchenette (breakfast not included), which had recently been renovated. It was within easy walking distance of the park and the centre of the town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to the town. Fact that having a teenage son we could have separate areas in the flat. Price.
Cons: We tried to call but the phone number didn't seem to work. So when we got there we didn't know how to get in or if the hosts were there. We didn't know it was their hosue. Then we couldn't find the door bell. Would have been great for them to tell us that the door bell is in the hedge. But that was all - just a worry before we arrived. The rest was perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Host family was lovely. Location was convenient and property was easy to access.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly hosts, everything one needs in terms of facilities and perfect location.
Cons: All was fine except that being a cellar it was a little cool.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, clean and modern flat with fridge and kitchen.
Cons: No instructions for the cooker or coffee jug (there was a nice coffee machine with pods).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the room and the ease of finding it and good access on and off the motorway. An excellent choice for an overnight stop enroute to the alps.
Cons: Nothing to dislike...all excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After an easy and warm welcome we went just a couple of minutes to the ancient part of the city. Our way led through a very nice park with art installations. A culturally interesting and lively little city.
7.5 Good
Pros: The landlady is quite hospitable and helpful. The chateau itself and a garden around is very athmospheric and romantic.
Cons: The transparent bath cabin located directly in the bedroom was a bit strange and uncomfortable solution
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great room and value. If you are going to be in this area you should stay here.
Chateau De Vitry-La-Ville - La Chaussee-sur-Marne - Building

7.5 Good
Pros: A step into history and a privilege to have access.
Cons: We were the only out of season guests. Reception and departure all a bit casual. We waited a while for the door to be answered!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Perfect pit stop en route to the Alps. Dog friendly and great breakfast
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Plenty of parking facilities clean friendly homeowner comfy bed-slept well:-)
Cons: - shower could use updating...a little difficult to use
5.8 Okay
Pros: Lovely property still in the early days of being a B & B so a little way to go before its fully functioning. Beautiful gardens, great for dogs and my daughter loved the recently opened pool.
Cons: It wasn't clear on the Booking.com website that there's nowhere close by for breakfast and despite the chateau advertising itself as a B & B, breakfast is not automatically included. 12.50 Euros for breakfast is excessive and the evening meal is 35 euros per adult and 20 for a child. This felt overpriced for what you get - I would recommend eating out of the chateau if possible. No credit card machine so they could only take cash plus 5 euros for a small bottle of water seems overpriced.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I stayed here a year ago and made a point of returning when my work took me to a location nearby. It's a wonderful place to stay. I work in the media and have written a story about it (link to follow once published).
Cons: It would be even better if there was a dining option but I knew there wasn't food for my stay so I came prepared. The hosts did, however, look after me with a few cold beers upon arrival. First-class!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a wonderful room in the chateau and felt quite spoilt, especially as the owner cooked us a lovely dinner and we felt quite grand seated at the long table in the dining room. The grounds are lovely, very tranquil. Our dog loved it too.
Cons: n/a
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Patrick (host) was awesome. The room was very interesting as it has been restored and was really nice. The property is set in remote and country setting and was really beautiful. The property has a small pool and free bikes (which we took advantage of) and looks to be a great place to relax. We only spent one night and in retrospective we should have spent more time there. Highly recommend this hotel even though it's out in the remote part of the Champagne region. Also - if you are a runner, I found some fantastic trails to run through the nearby fields.
Cons: No price list for the evening cocktails. I had two glasses of wine and then was surprised to find out how expensive it was. It would have been nice to know what things cost as I probably would have stopped and purchased wine and brought my own instead of spending the $12/glass. Secondly, the nearest restaurant is about 10-15k from the hotel.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stunning property and grounds, warm and welcoming. Wonderful home cooked dinner the owners are extremely friendly and hospitable. Our stay was short but perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything about the place. The setting was fabulous and our room was huge. We had a very relaxed and delicous meal cooked by the family. We couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Cons: There was nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, most helpful staff with good information on where to dine and champagne cellars to visit. Stunning grounds with great outdoor facilities. Charming setting steeped in history. Highly recommended.
La Fuste des Garceaux - Thiéblemont-Farémont - Building
11
9.1 Excellent (72 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Orconte, La Fuste des Garceaux is in a rural location, within a 15-minute drive of Jard Park and Saint Dizier Chateau. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely people, very comfortable, home made cooking (great and own produce!)
Cons: Location is a little isolated but perfect for bird watchers, backs onto forest.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly owners who stayed up very late to wait for me to arrive. Comfortable bed, spacious hot shower, excellent night's sleep. I would definitely stay there again.
Cons: Sat Nav couldn't find the place so a clearer sign and a light would have been reassuring in the dark as it is well tucked away down a long chalk track!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I have never stayed in a hotel with more friendly hosts. The hotel has real character and is spotlessly clean. The shower gel and shampoo are top quality and there are chocolates and biscuits to accompany the in-room tea and coffee. The hotel is in a peaceful location with secure parking and is close to Saint Dizier. Overall, a great place to stay if you want a peaceful night.
Cons: Even with directions emailed from the hotel, it was very difficult to find. My GPS did not recognise the road and the postcode was of little use. Although the Lat/Long was accurate, the GPS wanted to take me off-road to get there. I finally gave up, called the property and within 5mins, one of the hosts met me in the centre of Orconte. Signs are required because you do, indeed, go off-road on a prepared track to get there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Sandine and Francois were wonderful hosts. We loved our stay. We were made to feel very welcome.
Cons: A little difficult to find using Google maps but worth the effort in the end.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: They are lovely people. The breakfast was great, the room was huge and comfortable, the bathroom is beautiful. We were with our kids and they prepared a cot for My baby as well as a bath, changing mat and a baby bouncer to leave her while we had our breakfast. Just perfect!
Cons: The location can be really tricky to find. Be aware that google maps makes you go though a forbidden way, very dangerous. There’s no signs as well, which makes difficult to find during the night.

Pros: We loved our stay. Our hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. The building is not yet completely finished and therefore doesnt warrant a higher rating yet. I'm sure it will when its finished.
Cons: a bit difficult to find. a bit expensive in comparison to other places we have stayed.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: All Staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We used the private parking facility which was worth the extra €5. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The bed and pillows were so comfortable it was a great night's sleep. The Bathroom is very large with jacuzzi bath. There was a well stocked mini fridge as well as a coffee making machine. The safe was a generous size making safe storage easier for our valuables. We had dinner in the bistro and the food was superb. The duck was delicious beyond words. After dinner the chef came and said hello to guests and asked if we enjoyed our meal. We complimented him on his excellent skills. He was so friendly and humble. All waiting staff were brilliant with their attentiveness and attention to detail. Breakfast was also excellent with a selection of eggs, meats, cheese, croissants, cereals, fruit and juice. Coffee was great and we felt well fed and ready for our journey.
Cons: A small attention to detail that needs to be addressed at breakfast......the meats were not covered and it wasn't long before a fly or two became attracted to it which was a turn off. Such a shame as the cheeses and yogurts were protected under cover so perhaps just one more cover for the meat would complete the presentation.

Pros: Convenient for a stay en route to Alps or home. Gray breakfast served in the room.
Cons: The reading lamp on one side of the bed could not be connected.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We arrived late at night and was a little tricky to find. When you turn into the road the accommodation is just up on the left. You will see what looks like a private drive, its the house immediately to the left of the drive. We were greeted by the owner who showed us the 2 apartments. We were split as a 3 and a 2. The rooms were nicely appointed and comfy. The beds were a little soft (only a personal thing) and plentiful hot water for showers. Breakfast was provided for us all in the 3 bed room apartment, fresh bead, pasties, tea, coffee, cheese and hot chocolate. A welcome start to a day of long driving. Over all a great stay and would certainly stay again.
Cons: Maybe a bigger sign out the front on the road side.

Pros: What a find, in a beautiful little village on way back to Calais from Switzerland. Had our evening meal here from the 3 course set menu which was very tasty and good value. Would recommend. Nice base for an hours pre-dinner walk along the picturesque canal, but if you were walkers you could definitely go further, there is also a close by river walk.

Pros: Great location. Room was clean and simple but fine for a quick stop-over. Bathroom was nicer than expected. Breakfast good and plentiful.

Cons: The address given is incomplete! It says Rue de Doctuer Jolly. Which, when put in a sat nav, takes you to Doctuer Paul Jolly. Which is the wrong location. The correct address is rue de Doctuer JUSTAIN Jolly!!!!!!!!!

Cons: Dark inside. Remote location
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very tranquil Good choice of gym equipment
Cons: Very soft mattress
4.5 Okay
Pros: Excellent Spa bath , lots of hot water, comfortable seats and table. Good size bed and plenty of pillows.
Cons: The reception was surly, even though we speak fluent french, we felt as though we were an inconvenience. The room was ok but the bathroom mats were wet, dinner was very average, although it was nice to be served in the room. Everything was just a bit short of ok, but what really made the stay bad was the room must be right next to the septic tank and it absolutely reeked of human excrement all night! Further, we could not make the outside key work in the morning and had to rouse the owner to ‘release’ us, which was met with a very abrupt attitude...and when we escaped into the carpark, this too reeked of an open sewage tank. It was a shame as the location is lovely and peaceful.
6.3 Good
Pros: The flair of the room (we had the Vegas). Friendly price for breakfast. Good room price. Good-enough cleaning. We slept only one night there, so did not try any of the wellness related stuff.
Cons: Isolated, quite dark ( even scary, as we arrived late and were the only guests). However, this is subjective as you could see it as part of the atmosphere. Very small Spa-related equipment. The communication In English was difficult.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming people
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Picturesque yet quiet location. Nice funky room. Leisure facilities were good too.
Cons: The language barrier made it a little difficult since the host spoke no English and we spoke no French! We must try make an effort to speak a little French; at least; as it is a lovely language.

Pros: The hotel was very convenient for the auto route. Reception staff helpful in recommending somewhere to eat, which turned out to be a highlight of the holiday!
Cons: It was on the edge of town & perhaps lacked the attractive surroundings we had hoped for. A few trees would help to improve the aspect. Off a busy roundabout, which obviously could not be changed. It is a travellers' stop over really, rather than a place to stay for longer periods.
