Great location, excellent service and a very nice restaurant and menu
Beautiful setting. Lovely woodland walk on site. Quiet and peaceful, so a good night’s sleep. All staff extremely helpful and good natured. Evident pride in the history of this magnificent building.
A little dated but clean and comfortable. Supper was good but breakfast was not!
Solid scrambled egg and bacon like a piece of shoe leather. Staff seemed a bit inexperienced, but overall a handy overnight stop.
Magnificent old house, beautiful grounds for walking in, peaceful get away from it all location. Love that dogs are very welcome in the rooms and most areas. Lots of parking. Food was good, servings were very generous. Staff were friendly.
I have known this hotel for many years, as a family we have visited on lots of occasions, and sadly I have to say that it’s looking very dated and shabby, inside and out. The lighting is particularly poor making the lovely panelled rooms feel gloomy (or conversely over bright and not cosy and welcoming enough.) The bathrooms are in need of renovation, although the water was hot and abundant, and the towels and bedding nice. It makes me sad that such a charming old house feels rather unloved and uncared for now.
Dinner was excellent, lovely choice and beautifully served by very friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was very comfortable, warm and inviting with an enormous bed! Breakfast was self service with good choice of hot or cold food and staff on hand to assist if necessary
These are both personal preferences but did just take the edge off my experience at the hotel - for a very big bed the pillows were very small and no good for support for sitting up reading in bed or watching tv; also the bedside lights had huge shades which let out very little light for reading. Everything else was perfect!
