Pros: We stayed at the Hightae to break our journey, as we were heading to the North West of Scotland on holiday. The accommodation is lovely. An ex Public House with a residents licence which includes a great gin menu and numerous malt whiskies. Mark and Morag are excellent hosts and we felt like we were staying with best friends who we had not seen for ages. Our room was more than comfortable. The dinner was freshly home cooked by Morag using delicious local produce, as was the breakfast the following morning. Oh and not to forget the star of the show, Thomas the Welsh Terrier. What a character!! we totally fell in love with him. We would highly recommend this wonderful place and thanks Mark and Morag. We will definitely return when we visit Scotland again.

Pros: Had the perfect weekend, with a lovely friendly host, a fabulous property, and a cooked breakfast with local meats, the owners own eggs, and choice of 3 or 4 homemade jams. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner, who made us welcome on arrival, and was perfect in every way, with every last detail thought of and catered for.
Cons: There wasn't a thing wrong with our entire stay, and would definitely go again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful property nestled close to my travel route, very convenient. Not your average place as a well-cared for property, decorated tastefully but showing a personal touch. It felt very much like a home and had lovely views from the dining room. The room was spacious, spotless and attention to detail had been paid. The breakfast was generous and tasty, though a meat eater would have been even more spoilt as the local sausage selections were delicious! The host used her own hens' eggs which was a nice touch. The host was friendly and helpful, offering advice about the area and ongoing route. Lovely!
Cons: Nothing negative to say.

Cons: Getting access at night x No cooked breakfast x
7.5 Good
Pros: A large, old hotel. The postcode for SatNav led us to a nearby field and we travelling late at night, so not ideal. Very impressive looking building- the owner has several dogs which met us on arrival, which was great for us as we love dogs, but may startle those who aren’t keen. The room was large and spacious and the owners left the heating on for our arrival. It was a bit chilly when we awoke, but this is Scotland in late October! Breakfast was a good continental choice - I believe you could pay extra for cooked- but we had freshly prepared croissant which was lovely. Would’ve liked to have spent more time here, as saw a peacock and peahen in the courtyard and we were very interested to read about the history of the hall and nearby ruin in the guestbook. All in all, will stay again if we’re ever in the area.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: really quaint feel to the property. It's a lovely old building with lots of dark wood. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was the chef who immediately popped out of the kitchen when I went into the reception area and told me where the staff were and showed me where the bar was. I checked in easily and was shown up to my room. The bedroom was spacious with a large exceedingly comfortable double bed. The whole hotel felt in need of care but was still homely with the wood fires and old leather chairs. The food was excellent - I had steak and ale pie with the biggest leanest tastiest chucks of beef i've ever seen! It was served with a very light puff pastry lid. The carrots, cauliflower and mash were superb - very honest food - perfectly cooked. I had a melt in the mouth chocolate brownie for afters - very indulgent. The dining was very popular with the locals and all the dishes that passed by looked very appetising. As a lone female traveller, I felt very comfortable. I slept well. For breakfast there was a good choice and the mushrooms were the best i've tasted - really lovely. Overall a very enjoyable stay as it was entirely unplanned.
Cons: the tiredness of the carpets was a bit off putting and general feeling of dustiness..Nothing more to say.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, good food and reasonably priced. Ideal for the area around Lockerbie. I would stay there again.
Cons: Hotel was under staffed. The room was small, single.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything the staff are really friendly and I mean that in a genuine sense and not a product of their "hospitality training"
Cons: bed too soft for me but that's not the fault of the kings arms , my fault for getting older and buggering my back through years of rugby!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location two blocks from the train. Room and en suite were very clean and bed was comfortable with modern linens and good mattress. I appreciated the updated windows and ability for fresh air. Staff was super friendly, and the included breakfast offered a full menu with tasty food. Recommended!
Cons: Carpets and wallpaper were dated, but this is minor (and maybe to be expected at a quaint lodge in a small town)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay - staff very friendly. Bar area was a little cold - BUT the quality of the food in the restaurant area soon took my mind off that. BEST Carvery we have had in years.
