Owners of the one green hope cottage were such lovely people and made our stay very personal. £75 is probably too much to pay for a night as I would love to stay there a week but that would be very pricey! Maybe a deal for more than two nights would be good for marketing.
We absolutely loved the whole package - things could not have been easier for us - the friendliness of the staff and the beauty of the whole area was amazing No
From the artistic breakfast to the glorious views, the friendly, charming hosts made us feel right at home.
we were received a warm welcome and the hotel was in a lovely tranquill location.
the restful ambience, situation and proprieters of guest house and was a good base for exploring the surrounding tourist destinations as well as the places of interest a little more off the beaten track.
Quiet and restful, fabulous scenery, excellent breakfasts.
Exellent quiet location. Good local walking
The owners bill and alison were very friendly people the location was excellent the service was firstclass we would stay again
Very memorable. Superb building, more like a home than a hotel, great staff, excellent food, amazing setting...a very enjoyable experience.
The room we had at the weekend was lovely and secluded - just what we wanted Nothing
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
Excellent location for a fishing lesson at the Centre of Excellence with Eion Fairgreives I think the wine price list is expensive and a £25 bottle of Pinot Noir, although drinkable, probably should have been replaced
The peace and comfort of the hotel and the surrounding grounds.
Very relaxed old style comfort. Staff well trained and went out of their way to make guests feel at ease. Should have proper internet access.
Only the food was a bad point the worst we have had anywhere
Friendly warm inviting - excellent food and facilities
I have been to many hotels over the years, but i have never found one that makes you feel relaxed as soon as you enter the front door, as the Roxburghe hotel did. The staff and everything about the place made you relax, a truly wonderful experience
Very comfortable room and good value for money. Lovely and quiet at night and in the morning.
Food and style of hotelbedroom Bedroom was very cold until the heating came on at night
the food and service were both outstanding the decor: the resturant is decorated in a really dull burgandy, giving it a very dirty feel, whilst the rooms and bathrooms could also benefit from a make over. The bed squeaked whenever we moved.
Nice restaurant. Good selection of food although not everything is home cooked as advertised. The room facilities were dated and very poor. The shower ahrdly worked and the first room we were shown only had a bath with rubber tubing attched to the taps as a shower. But to be fair 55 GBP for a double room with breakfast was fantastic value,
- Clean - Nice bar and restauarant - Easy parking - V. far from Edinburgh and takes 45 minutes to commute, no street lights on your way which make it quiet dark in the night - Heating not appropriate in the room, however, staff acccomodating additional heating requests - Only one electricity socket in the room which make it difficult to decide what to run, laptop or electric heater.. - Mobile reception goes V. down - Toilet did have bath but no shower
Restaurant facicilities and overall service excellent. Rooms need modernising and decorating
Out dated, filithy carpets, a musty smell, poor shower facility, we only stayed for 1 night and that was enough. Value for money ? no at £70 the standard was very low - I stay in hotels all over Europe and this has to be the worst I have ever stayed in.
Friendly atmosphere. Good food No daily changing menu or specials, so menu predictable
Can't begin to explain!! Gifford is a beatiful market town and the Goblin Ha' is a major part of it. However, never a truer word has been spoken when they say 'don't judge a book by it's cover'. Scottish towns can appear a little 'dower' to English. Once inside the door it's a pure delight of chic modern meets traditional. I was amazed - and I've been to many hotels across the world. The staff were delightful and attentive, food superb, and I slept a full 10 hours in the fabulous bed!!! I should keep all this as a secret, but can't help but enthuse over the place. An absolute delight to stay there and will be back! Couldn't find a single bad point even if I'd tried really hard (and I am hard to please according to my other half!)
Room servicing was inadequate, towels not replaced even after soiled were removed; tea and coffee supplies not topped up. Beds inordinately uncomfortable.
the location was good for the walks we did,the friendliness of the staff and it was good value for money. the hotel was basic but clean
It was a pleasant hotel and you got what you paid for. A fair price I had a room above the kitchen so I was woken up really early every morning with screaming staff
Friendly customers in the bar. Ability to take dog in the bar as well as the room No food in the evening. Room very small. Inconsiderate guests next door! Exactly the same as our last stay when kept awake most of the night.
Breakfast was good and staff friendly Room and bar area in desperate need of upgrading and decorating. Simply redecorating would not be enough!
The only point I would like to make while having a drink in the bar a member of staff was on the phone taking a booking read out the bookings bank details within hearing of people in the bar including long number secutity num on back of card andexp date
The staff and the locals were very friendly and could nt do enough for us and we were late for breakfast but still cooked for us!
I liked the friendleness of the staff who were always ready to help. I also liked the food, the cosiness and the small friendly bar. Rooms were a bit small but I realise this is an old building and although small they were adequate. Certainly cosy and clean.
A very basic hotel.
The food Service slightly slow
Pleasant surroundings One hour from sitting down to dinner until food served
Situated on the main road of quiet village, a first class hotel in which to celebrate that special occasion. 2AA Rosettes breakfast menu too! As the hotel name suggests, the focus is on the à la carte restaurant rather than holidaying guests. Small off-road car parking area.
Lovely room and very pleasant staff. Good food. The room decorated with fish wallpaper!!!
Pleasant ambience with comfortable bedroom and evidence of recent refurbishment, good sporting or entertaining locus with decent food and wine.
The evening meal was first class as was the breakfast. We also really liked the position of the hotel across from the village green. We found the bed in the lovely bedroom a little too soft for our tastes but this is no-one's fault but rather our own need for a firmer mattress.
Food and freindliness not applicable
Fantastic Food, friendly helpful staff. Although a little small, the room was well furnished, and very comfortable.
Convenient for visit to area Food not up to expectation, dissapointing menu
