very relaxing and enjoyable not enough time to do a lot more in the time we spemt there
At 1:45 am the radiator in the room woke us up making such a loud drilling noise for about 20 minutes. The morning breakfast was not very nice the beacon and sausages were over cooked and bland and we had to serch for someone to top our coffee up
Food in resturant Busy with corporate event all weekend
very polite and coutious staff. Room cleanliness bar food cold be improved.
Excellent facilities, well laid out room Had to ask for a remote for TV, but was supplied very promptly
Quick service Bathroom decor is a little dated and te location isnt highlighted too well in the surrounding area
The facility and the faculties were awesome . Nothing
Sky sports in the room Well kept room Well kept hotel Nice surroundings They could have been a bar menu
Relaxing, good facilities and standard of hotel.
The hotel staff. We were impressed by the check-in staff on reception, the evening duty manager & service staff at breakfast. All were welcoming, helpful, charming and very well trained. Proximity to the event we were attending at Layer Marney Tower.
Have stayed several times, it is a suitable location for my requirements Could do with a fridge in the room
Clean spacious hotel. Comfy room, nice bathrom and good size bath towels! Love the art work everywhere. Hairdrier a bit hard to use and a bit weak but worked .
Extremely clean room, lovely flat screen on well, very comfy bed. This hotel has a lovely residents bar and is right at the end of the high street. You could not get a better location. Nothing we got to check in v. early, got our room slightly upgraded, staff were lovely, tea & coffee in our room - no negatives.
Good location, nice room, nice bar, 12pm checkout £20 premium for sea view is a bit high. No hotel car park
Central situation! Your clerical provisions need improvment! The opening line of this enquiry has opened with 'Dear Ferris' Perhaps a prefix of 'Mr.' would have been wise!! Soft drinks were ridiculously expensive!
We were upgraded to a beautiful sea-view room on the fifth floor. The room was spacious, clean and the air conditioning ensured a comfortable sleep No bad points
We like the location of the hotel, on both our stays we had sea view rooms and our next stay will also be in a sea view room to make the most of the location. We think that Southend had been improved by the redevelopment of the Hotel. Our first stay was one night and the second two nights, our only complaint is the cost of parking and leaving our car in the car park opposite. The first stay cost us approximately £15.00 and the second £24.00. I completely understand that the car park is not the hotels juresdiction but the discount the hotel gets for its guests is a paltry one.
Good size room, not too hot The desk clerk on my arrival was slow and unfriendly (All the rest o fteh staff were lovely)
Good Security with swipe cards. Very clean and well appointed rooms. Hotel very tidy all round and in good location. N/A
the hotel staff, the location and the food were abolutely fantastic.you cannot get any better than dat. well done everything was absolutely perfect for me
room was warm, clean, quiet. Bathroom excellant, even had a proper hairdryer. Staff helpfeul, efficient and smart. Could have been more tea bags and milk in hospitality tray, but on mentioning at reception were told they would have been happy to deliver more. As it was past one am didn't think it worth it.
Proximity to airport - London Southend. NA
Nice pleasant clean hotel. Very close to Southend airport! No problems with noise. Car park fairly cramped and you might end up a fair walk away from the hotel. Staff were very friendly. The room was fairly small but as I expected. I'd be very upset if I'd paid the full room rate! always look around for a discounted price!
Great location, right on the seafront, lovely views from the restaurant area out across the bay. Comfortable, modern, clean, friendly, good parking facilities. Breakfast was first class. Bathroom was very cold even with the towel radiator on. I stayed in one of the junior suites on the top floor, with no central heating. Heating was via the air conditioning unit, central heating would have been much preferable.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent food and very good choice. General cleanliness throughout. Our only complaint was that whereas we were booked in for 5 nights,Monday to Saturday - we were very disturbed to have our bill pushed under the door early on Friday morning which informed us that we were expected to check out that day. The young lady on the Reception Desk was extremely helpful and did get it sorted out, but we feel that it was something that should not have occurred.
Enjoyed every moment we were there.
It is a very well run hotel with friendly helpfull staff and when I did have a slight problem in the early hours it was resolved without any fuss. keep up the good work.
Lovely hotel and great food My room was a shoebox, but I guess you get what you pay for. Also, I was told at reception that breakfast was not served until 8.30 on weekends. I needed to leave for my work by 8.30. I discovered that breakfast started at 8.00 when I went a few minute early to see if I could grab something. I trust this will be corrected as I passed the info onto the hotel.
The staff was very welcoming. The hotel is very clean and the food was excellent.Very pleased with everything.
The position is excellent. It was a short walk from Thorpe Bay station. Every one was very friendly. The sun shone! The hotel is quite shabby in places. Could do with a lift
Lovely atmosphere in restaurant & terrace Room very hot. No hot water for shower/wash. Light over mirror in bathroom flashing on & off all night.
Staff were extremely helpful and made the stay... None
pleasent and friendly staff good food
I enjoyed my stay because the rooms were clean, comfortable and sufficient for our overnight stay. I was asked to if I wanted to order a newspaper for Sunday morning and it never arrived. No apology from staff and no reason for it not appearing. We were being picked up at 12 so decided after checkout to have a coffee in the lounge. Found staff member very flippant and unhelpful. No change available in the till.
the experience the tv did not work and a request to have it looked at was to no avail
Excellent bar food and buffet breakfast. Slightly noisy being situated right by A12, but double glazing does cut out most of the traffic noise
Rooms were classically designed, very comfortable Had to keep windows closed due to traffic noise
Such great value for money! Really nice and comfortable hotel with a lovely pool area. The village of Marks Tey is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but I suppose that adds to the charm.
Rooms good quality Quality of hot breakfast poor TV reception
We have 3 kids and the staff made sure we had interconnecting rooms, many thanks to them. The hotel needs an overhaul, it is very ugly from the outside and the furniture and fittings are getting quite tired now. Also noise from the nearby road is quite loud.
Excellent food! The whole, very short stay. was excellemt value.
The special rate if a child is occupying a room on their own - half the normal rate, so our 14 year old son had independence at a reduced cost !! We've never found a hotel which does this before, so well done to Paten Hotels. The bar service was good value for money, and an excellent choice of food. Considering the room rates, the accommodation was very plush, and a really enjoyable experience.
the helpfulness of the staff n/a
convenience to town centre. room was small and lacked proper ventilation
Our room had all the facilities we could possibly require for our stay. It was warm, the shower was great and the bed comfortable. We even had biscuits with our courtesy tea/coffee tray. Nothing springs to mind although the winding walk to our room and no lift could, I imagine, present a problem for less mobile guests. However, the staff were so pleasant and I therefore imagine they would help in such cases.
Delightful dining room and good breakfast. Only the access. The junction at the end of the road is a nightmare, even though I have done it several times in the past.
Premium rooms large comfortable bed. Bathroom had bath and seperate shower, clean and well presented. Room service good, full menu available.
Power shower was fab!! Nice and quiet as well so got a good nights sleep.
They are clearly renovating the hotel - lovely restaurant, wonderful bar area The top sheet on the bed had rips and tears in it and it proved difficult to sleep in the morning as the walls are so thin you can hear the other guests opening and shutting doors whilst making their way around the hotel
Very good food at the restaurant! Comfortable beds and clean toilet.
Well heated.Good breakfast. Hum of heating/kitchen ventilation, or similar, constant all night. Shower was just a trickle.
Good breakfast included
Close to station and concierge on duty all night Decor in need of modernisation
Beautiful surroundings. Peaceful. Tv could be labelled to say 'master switch by bed'. Was not obvious to start with. Final details of how to arrive (from London)by car could be improved and Borough Road is also 'Entrance to UoEssex.
Very helpfull staff, the room was a standard size and good for the rate and the meals were very good. the general decor of the hotel appeared well maintained and clean The TV was a bit small to watch comfortably room the bed
The staff is very helpful the rooms are very dated and beds very small and not comfortable
Location The barking dog in the room next door, if I had stayed more than one night this would have been a problem. The lady in the next room with the pooch was somewhat selfish. Perhaps the hotel could have advised of the local dog fanciers convention (true not sarcasm) before putting us in the room they did...
The country house location. N/A
Staff were polite and friendly. Paint flaking off the walls in the dining room. Bathroom badly needs work ---- rust behind taps. The bed was only 4ft 6ins wide and my wife and I are used to a larger size. When one is paying £90 per night you would expect to be nearly as comfortable as you are at home with at least a 5ft bed. Also there was only one armchair ?
Conveniently located with respect to Essex University bath shower facilities just adequate; all charm destroyed; electric fireplace etc.; private anniversary celebrations left hardly any parking place and the parking is big....
Quiet and comfortable. No hassle. Excellent position for visit to University, Colchester and Wivenhoe.
Other than B&B, I did not use any facility. But good secure parking facility adjacent to the hotel was welcome.
Clean and well presented, no excessive fuss but just good value Nothing
I did not like the size of the room it was far to small is my knees were touching the shower when sat on the loo. The drains needed sorted as this caused my room to smell and it was far to cold.
slept as i was working localy
The room was comfy, spacious and lovely decor, view of sea was lovely to wake up to Nothing at all
Polite staff and good breakfast.
Nothing The central heating didn't work. I was welcomed by a confused say 15 year old boy. there was a birthday party of the 13 year old daughter in the residents lounge. I didn;t get the seaview room I boooked. they didn;t eeven have my on line booking. In fact there was not on redeeming facot.
The room was a sea view room and very large, bedroom and bathroom very clean, very very close to southend pier and amusements and to the town centre itself bed was hard but that is a personal prefernce and not one that should be held accountable towards the hotel, the noise from the floorboards from the room above was rather loud both in the night and in the morning so not one for the light sleeper
The historic significance and the hotel's representation of all that is good and traditional about English "superior guest-house" hospitality. I seriously cannot think of any.
friendly staff. was made welcome. nothing
friendly helpful, clean and tidy value for money
The hotel was clean, warm and the staff friendly. The breakfast was outstanding. The location was ideal and we really enjoyed our stay 100% No not at all
Awesome, fantastic, welcoming staff. This extended through from reception to managers who were hard working and extremely helpful. I may well need to stay in Southend again, and would return to this hotel without hesitation. My wife booked this hotel based on feedback from previous guests, and I was not disappointed. It's probably a bit pricey - but in view of the value, I would be prepared to ignore that in the future. You always get what you pay for, and this place is seriously good.
The breakfast was really good (a lot of choise), and staff was nice and friendly and the location is very good. was noisy. In front of the hotel were few tables and chairs. Other guests were noisy, and we couldnt sleep.
Comfortable room and substantial breakfast Bedroom furniture a little dated
The nice proprietors
The hotel is in a quiet location, close to the beach with parking, staff were polite and the room was clean and comfortable I expected a greater variety of food but what was available was good
Staff helpful and welcoming Parking arrangements a disappointment, low shower pressure, slightly shabby decor, noise of heating system from early hours. This would be ok as a 2 star but is a poor 4 star and I cant see how this is comparable to other 3 star hotels in the area.
The friendly and helpful staff
The staff attitudes towards visitor Yes our pravcy was invaded twice by the domestic and this really upset me.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was clean and well stocked with tea and coffee, the staff were friendly.
Very friendly owner and freshly decorated.
Warm welcome, friendly atmosphere made me feel very at ease.
Good clean family run hotel. Pleasant staff, good facilities and close to attractions. a great bar/bistro with a seaside outlook was situated on the beach a few yards away. None
Location. Breakfast. Owners. Almost booked a nearby place at half the price, but was swung by the prospect of an 'Executive Room'. The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed
Very friendly owners
Lovely styled room, nice suprise. loved the sofa. loads of tea, sugar and milk always an asset Heating didnt work. toilet was heavily stained and smelt, holes in the sheets blinds didnt close at the bottom, had to stand on sofa to draw the curtain. fire alarm sounds 'fire in zone 1. there wasnt any members of staff on site so I dealt with it, muting the alarm and calling a number. My guess is a smoker but if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble
Comfortable room, spotlessly clean. Nice bar/restaurant room. Stair carpet was filthy - and seems to have been like that for a while. Breakfast was disappointing, in particular the attitude of the lady cooking / serving. We felt we were intruding on her day.
All staff and food where very good and very friendly we had a very nice stay
Staff very helpful. Room was very clean and good value for price paid Outside area could have been cleaned and more could be done with the bar and outside areas to compete with the Crown accross the road !!!
Very friendly staff, good food, excellent value for money
we were made very welcome right from start..all the staff were very friendly, and happy.they gave us info on places to go nearby.. nothing that we did not like..
Lovely hotel in nice location, staff were very helpful at all times, food good We were in a lovely room but there was a constant humming noise coming from behind the wall next to the bathroom (sounded like a pump of some sort!)This went on through the night which was very annoying. Also on last morning my pot of butter actually smelled of garlic! Obviously it had garlic in the night before but thought they should have checked this as it totally put me off my toast!
Atmosphere created by a 15th/16th Century inn - not too sophisticated, but comfortable. Menu was limited oin second night by "off" dishes.
Excellent welcome by all. Food, room and atmosphere very friendly and relaxing. We knew the area but would not eat anywhere else after first night in the restraurant. Had to wait for the Toad in the Hole, but well worth the wait. Should be a 5 Star rated country hotel. Used to be in the tourist business in Devon. Excellent standards. Only one comment. The water pressure in the shower. Experienced this in my own holiday park in Devon. Need to have a water pump installed to equal out the pressure.
The hotel is very nice, and also Jackie and her sister let you fill immediately like at home. This is the right place were stay after a long day of work...
Excellent hotel in fine location very enjoyable weekend. At good value.
Location and hotel facilities (spa) Restaurant closed earlier than we'd have liked (9pm), but room service was excellent and the food was very good.
Clean, friendly staff, good food and enjoyed the pool!!! Nothing. Shame about the weather but no one can do nothing about that !
A fine hotel in stunning surrounings with 2 golf courses attached. All the staff were very friendly and made you feel at home immediately. No complaints
It had a nice bathroom Very basic room the travel inn offers more comfort for less money
Roomy, clean, small details (quality of beds sheets etc) but above all, the marvellous staff team. Made my long business stay a real pleasure. Food good in restaurant too. Very slow room heaters, if you forget to inform the staff and get your room 'pre warmed' you may have to sit in your overcoat for 10-15 minutes until it gets going, but hey, maybe it's an environmental thing! Breakfast bit uninventive, same every day.
Value for money accommodation Food - roomservice meal was expensive and not the highest quality
Chef took the time to discuss my dietry needs&supplied me a lovely me. Dining rooms was good.Hotel was very busy but we were not disturbed by noise. Room outlook was over car park, not so good. Ordered papers but werre not told we had to collect from reception. Spa had products on show however when I wanted to purchase something I was told that as yet they did not have any to sell. For me mattress was a bit 'tired' fortunately had taken a travel memory foam mattress. Would recomend both the hotel and your services and hope to arrange astay via yourselves next year
Excellent location 10 mins off the a12 in pleasant rural location. Good facilities, good sized well equipped rooms, friendly staff Restaurant a bit pricy but lounge bar meals reasonably priced and good quality.
the staff were very helpful the room was very clean and tidy comfortable a very worthwhile stay for the price I thought the room would include breakfast as this is a must as a feature in the current climate and for he price...on the basis of this we decided to eat away from the hotel for meals as this offered the best value for money
Made to feel very welcome and comfortable. Wonderful setting. Just lack of toiletaries in bathroom but I did have an economy room. And would have been nice to have rack of toast brought from the kitchen at breakfast instead of having to queue for the single slow toaster (with army of hungary golfers in front of me!)
