Overview

Built in 1991, The Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey sits on one of the largest human-made harbors in the country. With a waterfront location on a harbor, business travelers and boating enthusiasts are the main clientele at the hotel.

The Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey is located in Marina Del Rey, on the water but not the beach. Just a short drive to Santa Monica and Venice and a painless drive to the Los Angeles International Airport, the hotel attracts business travelers who enjoy the upscale chain's rewards program and its consistent luxury. However, a 10-to-20-minute drive will take sightseeing guests to public beaches, shopping malls, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood Boulevard.

Most of the clientele are there for events ranging from business meetings to bar mitzvahs to weddings, and the hotel offers ample facilities to accommodate them with more than 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space, including a beautiful wedding gazebo. There is also a lovely pool, nice spa, fitness center, two tennis courts, and a free business center. A delicious restaurant is on-site offering New American cuisine, and a poolside restaurant and bar also caters to guests.

Accommodations at the Ritz are spacious and feature standard rooms with good sleeping options and features like Frette linens, featherbeds, and Bulgari toiletries. The Ritz brand is not known for its striking style, and the rooms at this hotel are highly nautically themed.

While staying at The Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey, guests can wake up and walk out the back door to the water. However, the water only features docks and boats, perfect for boaters and business travelers needing a fresh start to the day.

The facility is luxurious, but I was expecting Ritz Carlton to be pampering for all, not just those with qualifying elite status. For such a name and price, one would expect more than just free water and coffee in the room (how about a small wine bottle or fruit bowl), and afternoon lounge for all?

Pros (+) We stayed in the most expensive room with a Marina view. The view was nice but the room was old and outdated. Quality furnishings, but old and worn. The public areas are beautiful. Walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbors loud and clear. Not worth the price, the room doesn’t have that extravagant/indulgent feeling you want when you’re paying that much.
Cons (-) Update the rooms.

Pros (+) I liked that the hotel was near the water, close to a concert I was attending.
Cons (-) I booked this hotel because they had balconies and it was near the water. The balcony was closed due to renovations. The bath tub was small , hotel was a little outdated. Not as special as a experience as I was hoping for

Pros (+) Nice place, but not worth the Ritz premium. I would stay at the JW Marriott in Santa Monica next time I'm in the area.
