I love the staff, especially the two ladies who prepared our meals and clean. They were so friendly and welcoming. I love that the hotel is in the Medina. At first, we got lost and it took us some time to figure out how to get in and out of the Medina but once we figure it out, it was smooth sailing from there. The best part of our stay at this hotel is the massage and Hammam.
I didn't like that when we arrived at the hotel we were not greeted. The French worker at the front desk didn't speak English. We were let into the hotel and was just handed a key for a room on the main floor. We didn't like it at first but we grew to like it. It's close to the pool and the kitchen. It was not as loud as I thought it would be. People were in bed early.
Excellent service, the staff really went above and beyond to make us comfortable and happy. The riad is absolutely gorgeous — an oasis in a hectic city. Was hard to leave the riad, we wish we had booked several more nights! While it is tricky to find (very easy to get turned around in the maze-like narrow streets) we called Moad and he immediately sent someone to meet us and show us the way.
Riad O2 had the most welcoming and staff we experienced in Morocco. Hard to find but a true gem in Morocco. Nice on site Hammam and fantastic roof terrace. Quirky taps in the bathrooms. I will stay here again on my next visit as the rooms are not so expensive either.
Hard to find.
The outside space on the terrace was nice and the inside 'foyer' was cutesy. The breakfast was bread, jams, honey, tea/coffee and orange juice which was tasty. Mint tea was offered on arrival and we were given more on request throughout the stay. The owners were helpful with arranging our airport transfer and a tour guide to navigate the souks at our request (booked in advance). The room itself was practical and the pics as advertised - sufficient storage space and nice to have a little table each at either end of the room.
There were a few maintenance issues with the room itself - the two floor lamps didn't work, two of the wall lights didn't work, the bathroom sink had some plumbing issues so it leaked all over the floor, and the shower sprayed in every direction and it was impossible not to get your hair wet and the toilet/floor all soaked as well. Some shower caps in the bathroom would have been great! The mattresses were really hard in the room - great if you like a hard mattress, not so great if you prefer a softer mattress so I didn't sleep well either night. One thing I hadn't garnered from other reviews before we went was that there are no keys to the rooms, just a little bolt, so theoretically anyone staying in the Riad can access your room. I'm not sure if that is a normal practice for Marrakech but had I known that beforehand it would have affected my decision to stay there as I like to be able to lock my room on holiday - everything was safe in the Riad but it made me a little uncomfortable and anxious to leave my passport and any cash hidden in the room. Lastly, I had pre-booked months before to have hammam treatments the Sunday evening and confirmed with the Riad the week before that they were still booked. I asked 30mins beforehand if our treatments were still going ahead and the night manager didn't speak any English so using google translate I typed in my question and was told 'no hammam, no massage'. The sole reason we booked the Riad O2 was that it had a hammam on site and we wanted to stay somewhere that we could go from hammam to our room. After a painful exchange trying to find out what was going on he said we could have a massage in our room, but that's not what we booked as part of the hammam experience. Eventually a woman turned up and we had the hammam and massage but the stress of the situation beforehand ruined the experience of it for me.
Absolutely nice staff, especially the 2 Rajida‘s made our stay worthwhile. The roof terrace is nice as well as the atrium. Good breakfast, nice dinner!
The muezzin in the morning appears to be singing the loudest and the longest :) - thus, bring ear protection
