9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very relaxing, nice Onsen that is easy to book privately, delicious Japanese food, spacious room. Hotel personnel will pick you up from the bus station (station name is Sawando, which google calls something else incorrectly). You will get a private dining room, and four out of eight total rooms come with a hot bath inside. Keep in mind that even though you have the hot bath, you won't have a shower in the room. You cannot use the hot bath to clean yourself. The only showers are the public ones, and one private that can be reserved. I initially found that to be inconvenient, but it really was not. Relaxation is about letting go of control! The bed is a Japanese futon, on the floor, but comfortable and warm even in the winter. They will put some kind of a hot-water filled feet warmer under the sheets, too.
Cons: Some amount of sake should have been included in the price of the dinner!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic traditional Japanese hospitality and beautiful food in an unusual location. Not for a second did they make us feel different or unwelcome due to our western/foreign background. We were here for 2 nights and was a highlight of our visit to Japan. A special thanks to Yuta Saitou for his patient help and support before and during our stay.
Cons: Very little not to like in this beautiful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is beautiful and comfortable. The staff is very helpful. I love to stay here.
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan is 5mins walk from Sawando bus stop, not big but super comfortable. I do like the hot spring and their lovely staffs. It’s a pity that I arrived one week before Kamikochi opened to public this spring. BTW, the starry sky view from the garden was really amazing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here for just one night. It's our accommodation on the way we travelling from Shirakawago to Fujikawaguchiko. Hence, it's a wonderful stay with a lovely and relaxing environment. It's the ryokan that surouding by snowy mountains and provided supreme retreat. Staffs are very friendly and helpful even they don't speak English. Breakfast and dinner are fantastic. The portions were just right, not too much not too less.
Cons: We didn't expect there is no shower area in the room. Our room include the outdoor onsen, it's nice but the weather was too cold for bathing outside :-) However the private onsen that the ryokan provided was wonderful, we just need to book the time.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service. Very comfortable
Cons: The location close to a big road and parking lot was unappealing but easy to forget in the calm of the interior surroundings
7.0 Good
Pros: In general the hotel is average; location is good for catching the bus at Sawando Bus Terminal for going to Kamikochi, it is less than 5 min walk.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A staff member picked us up and dropped us off at the bus stop which was so nice!

Pros: This is my second time in Raicho and I am glad to bring a new group of friends with me. 1) Love the hospitality and the warmth of the staffs in Raicho. They were very kind to drive us to our restaurants and send us to the bus stop on the day that we are leaving. Really thankful for them as we would have quite abit of difficulty walk on a rainy day. 2) Love the make-your-own breakfast concept. 3) A soak on a cold day is really nice!

Cons: No windows into the room for fresh air at night. Very few showers, but never had to wait. Kitchen could do with some bigger bowls for noodles and breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable, cosy and great value for money. We stayed in one of the private Japanese-style rooms which was quiet, comfortable and immaculately clean. There was every facility and amenity we could need with many thoughtful details. The atmosphere in the whole building was friendly and warm. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Great location for transport and for seeing the many beautiful sights of Matsumoto. Excellent recommendations from the hosts for restaurants, cafés etc. Wish we could have stayed longer!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Tabi-Shiro was very welcoming, with lovely staff, charming design touches and a real sense of community. They promoted local crafts and suggested independent cafes etc to visit, and the location near the castle was great. Also, the staff even phoned a local sento to see if guests with tattoos could go - they really went above and beyond to help us enjoy our stay.
Cons: The only problems were things like some sound getting into our bedroom, and light through the thin blinds - but it's an old-style Japanese building, so this isn't unusual. And they provided eye masks and ear plugs for free, as well.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Tabi Shiro is hands down the best accommodation I have found in my travels. I only intended to pass through Matsumoto but after finding tabi shiro three days ago I am still here! Tabi-shiro is incredible. A wonderful young family owns Tabi shiro and restored and renovated an old style Japanese home into this incredible lodging and lounge. Every detail has been thought through and the place is welcoming, comfortable, impeccably clean, has a great bar, delicious and cheap breakfast, the most comfortable beds I've found in Japan, fast wifi, great common space, laundry, nice bathroom facilities (with lavender scented body products!!). Unlike so many other hotels/hostels Tabi Shiro is clean, comfortable, has a perfect location AND has so much unique character while still being affordable. In my experience if you are looking for lower budget affordable lodging you don't expect to find places that are clean, cheap AND have character (usually you get one out of three or at best two). Bikes are also available to rent and you get a free drink at the bar when you check in! Tabi shiro also has a custom map of the city that they made for guests to use. As I have explored Matsumoto for the past few days I have only gone to stores, attractions and restaurants that Tabi shiro recommended and they've all been wonderful. The people at Tabi shiro make it the most special, they are so welcoming, kind and friendly. The family that owns it is lovely and everyone they employ is as well, I made friends immediately and simply don't want to leave. If you do anything at all in Japan stay at Tabi shiro, it's been the absolute highlight of my three week trip!

Pros: Loved the concept of the place. It’s like a little area where you can relax for the weekend. Well maintained gardens with hammocks and chairs to sit around. The room itself was adequately sized with everything we needed. They seem very new and as usual, it’s Japanese level of clean. We even used a nearby coin laundry to wash and dry our clothes. Done in 2 hours flat - super efficient.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to Matsumoto Castle. I rented a bungalow and regular room with climbing war and hammock. It’s clean. Tranquil garden.
Cons: The room with climbing wall is really hard for kids to climb. The handle is too small. My kids end up taking the hammock off and use the rope as Tarzan swing. The room is small. It well for family of 3. I was family of 5. Bit tight.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The apartment was extremely clean and well maintained. The host was helpful and welcoming. We slept better than anticipated. Having a car made this place an ideal location to stay while visiting Matsumoto.
Cons: The apartment was small with limited room for luggage. There was also a step set of stairs to navigate with large suitcases. It would have been useful to have this information prior to arriving.

We instantly required takeaway breakfast bentos because we needed to leave the place early, Mrs. loving&caring Sueko prepared us delicious bentos with her original homemade cookies. Also, Mrs.Sueko’s dinner was one of our best meals in Japan. We definitely recommend this place to everyone we know. If there is opportunity, we will visit again.

9.0 Excellent (97 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Nakanoyu Onsen Ryokan in Matsumoto, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Kappa Bridge and Mount Yake. This ryokan is 1.7 mi (2.7 km) from Taisho Pond and 2.4 mi (3.8 km) from Hirayu Onsen.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extraordinary views. World class service. Easily accessible to Kamikochi, Matsumoto, and Takeyama. Breakfast and dinners are so exquisite. The onsen facilities are well kept and super relaxing after a long day. I am looking forward to coming back here again, the experience was unlike any other mountain retreat I've ever had.
Cons: It would help to read up a little bit on ryokan and onsen etiquette, or else you will be gravely confused.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great experience, awesome place to stay if you want to stay in a authentic ryokan. They if you get in contact they will pick you up from Matsumoto train station and take you to the property and then next day drop you off at kamakochi. If your a fussy eater you will not like it here / go hungry as there’s no western food and even no option what you want to eat. I found the traditional meals good but had to try it once. The onsen was also one of the best. Great experience
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Breakfast and dinner. Hotel staff make our stay very comfortable. Onsen was great and relaxing. Appropriate free shuttle to Kamikochi.
Cons: Not outside private onsen. Not easy to arrive there if you don’t have car.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, did their best to speak English. Private onsen, so you can join with your partner. Very Nice diner. Close to Kamikochi. Provided shuttle bus from Matsumoto station and to Kamikochi.
Cons: Mattress was to thin for me Japanse breakfast not my cup of tea Not cheap, but compared to other Ryokans in neighborhoud reasonably priced
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really loved our stay here and wished we could have stayed longer. We drove a hire car which was fine so no issues getting there. Staff were really friendly and helpful and spoke English when needed. Dinner was excellent (traditional Japanese) and breaky good as well. The view was fantastic from the room and the lobby / restaurant. Would highly recommend staying. Very peaceful. The baths were nice as well - one outdoor and two indoor.
Cons: WiFi only in lobby not rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Not enough words to describe this magnificent ryokan in the middle of nature. This has been my best stay so far- it exceeded all expectations . The service is at its highest - it is a lifetime experience. The all place will leave you speechless. It’s worth every cents. One night was not enough for sure. I suggest 2 nights if you want to explore the area to enjoy - recommended to nature lover. You won’t be disappointed
Cons: There is absolutely nothing I didn’t like - the staff did their best to meet my needs.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, free tea in the room all the time, free transfer to Kamikochi and Matsumoto. Onsen is very nice, especially the male one, where you get a direct view on the mountains. Plenty of food for Breakfast and Dinner, changing daily.
Cons: The pillows were insanely hard - to an extent that they were uncomfortable. Private Onsen needs an overhaul - it's way overdue. Located in the middle of nowhere, there are no other options to escape but with car. Fish, tofu and misosoup may not be your first choice for breakfast, when you are used to european (continental) breakfast. Although very good, it might not be for everybody's palate.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful people. They speak English really well and explain everything to you. The food was fresh and really great, but eating fish at 7 in the morning might not be for everyone. A shuttle gets you to the next bus stop and pics you up. Great place and Kamikochi is cool too.
Cons: The building seems a bit old and the room is small. Price is a bit high, even with the great food. The orange juice for breakfast is horrible.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was good.
Cons: The Onsen was not clean, as well we the private bath.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff offered five star service through our stay. They helped us plan each day, the rooms were cleaned as soon as we left for breakfast and the waits for the shuttle bus were very short. The area is stunning but the staff really made our trip.
Cons: Although we enjoyed it, the private onsen could do with a refresh. However, the outdoor baths in the public onsen more than made up for it.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Just a positive experience. The staff is a family who owns the location, and they are very welcoming and kind. They were very hospitable, and me and my traveling companion want to return soon and stay in this area again, because of how kind the staff was, how interesting and comfortable the location and surrounding wilderness were, and how we were able to get to many interesting places without too much of a difficult drive. Ice cream was also terrific. There is also an area where guests can talk and play music. It was very nice. Furthermore, breakfast was delicious, I would recommend you get it in addition to your stay.
Cons: At night, the drive can be a little scary and disorienting. So be sure to have your path picked out.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Too many reasons to come back to this place. Amazing hospitality, a wonderful home cooked Japanese breakfast and the well equipped onsen were some of the highlights from our stay there. The free bikes were a lovely way to explore the town - we took a leisurely cycle down the canal and had no trouble finding our way to the Matsumoto art museum, castle and soba restaurant for lunch with our hostess’s directions. Once again we cannot understate the hospitality we received, we truly felt welcome and taken care of while staying at Ryokan Seifuso.
Cons: Nil
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic ryokan and sensational family. We felt very comfortable. We would have stayed many more days! We even had a problem with losing a backpack and they helped us find it. 100% recommended. A lovely experience.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was a proper Japanese experience. Mr and Mrs were just lovely. Matsumoto is great, they live on the river which you can follow (half hour walk) into “town” for food. The men’s Onsen bath is quite something and I don’t do baths usually.
Cons: Personally I’m not a fan of shared facilities (toilet especially) but that’s what you get with any Ryokan. It’s something I should get over if I’m going to travel more.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were so lovely, welcoming and helpful. Gave us great advice about the area, were friendly and easy to talk with, provided fresh chilled water for all guests (a great touch after a day out cycling on good bikes - free of charge) and gave us a lift back to the station at the end of our stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A very quiet, comfortable and clean Ryokan. The staff was super friendly and even gave us a ride to the train station when we left. There were vegetarian options for the western breakfast which was great.
Cons: The location is a bit far from the center and you'll need a ride to get there. You can ask the property and they will pick you up and drop you off from/at the train station.

Pros: The breakfast was amazing, very homely ryokan. It was a bit far from the central area but the nice owner gave us a lift to the station. The room size was great and the beds comfortable. I really liked how wonderful the owners were. They were very helpful and we really enjoy our stay here. I love how close it is to the supermarket.
Cons: too far from the central
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owners are super warm and friendly, breakfast was amazing, and it's a very comfortable place to stay.
Cons: It's a little out of the way, but the owners picked us up and took us to the train station. We walked to town, but there are free bikes and a bus stop nearby.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Its my first time in a capsule hotel and this hotel meets my expectation. The capsule provides a lot of privacy even though its better if each capsule has door as I realized I needed to put my things in the locker, anyone can enter my capsule.
Cons: It's quite noisy at night when people take shower because my capsule is near the bathroom. The noise was shut out if I stayed in my bed and closed the curtain though. It's a bit difficult to find the hotel as its in the 6th floor of a building but its very near the train station which is a plus!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was very good! Literally one street away from the trainstation. And also nice to have your own little room.
Cons: The lady at the front desk was not very welcoming and the hotel didn’t have a good vibe/feel to it. Good that i only stayed one night.
7.0 Good
Pros: Clean and spacious room by Japanese standards. Good value for money.
Cons: Although not far from the station, it's a little isolated down a little street. Also, the hotel starts on the 6th floor of a building, so it's a little strange when you arrive for the first time.

Pros: Clean, super equipment, modern, comfortable. Every time again.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Spa. Usb in the capsule. Helpful staff. Great location.

7.5 Good
Pros: very clean and good location
Cons: very poor breakfast option
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very close walk to Matsumoto Station, it was very nice. Free Onsen for the men. Also, when I thought of a capsule hotel, I thought that it would be very cramp, however there was plenty of sleeping space. Free tea is always nice. I'd like to go again, but also get their breakfast. It's a pretty good deal. Also I read a bit of One Piece manga there, but all the manga is in native Japanese, just to warn you if you are not familiar with reading in Japanese.
Cons: I can't really think of anything to be honest.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is perfect.
Cons: No
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staffs
