Pros: Beautiful location, building, grounds and most importantly friendly and helpful staff!
Cons: No complaints
9.1 Excellent
Pros: food, atmosphere
Cons: cost, small details were occasionally missing, ie no sugar stirrers, candles left about, vacuuming during checkout times, etc.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast and fantastic historic buildings.
Cons: The restaurant closed early on Sunday night. We planned to arrive in time for closing hour which was 9pm. In the afternoon the hotel called and said they will close at 8pm - and it was not possible for us to make it before 8pm. We asked if they could prepare a cold sandwich and leave in the fridge. And the kitchen said NO! Very surprised the kitchen was not able to prepare anything cold when we arrived late.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We reached around 7.30pm on a Thursday. The receptionist gave us a warm welcome. The rooms were big; bathroom was big with old retro style with everything functioning. Beds and bedspread were clean and decorated with rose petals and a chocolate for each person. The breakfast Choice was varieties of dishes made from egg. They had Egg Benedict which was extremely delicious (I had 2..). This hotel closes during winter and we arrived 2 days prior to that. However, Lucky to have Egg Benedict, but otherwise Choice was less, which is understandable. The chef Vibeke was very courteous and caring for our kids. There is a huge outside garden to roam around and spend good time. Kids liked the open Space With a view to the mountain on one side and lake on the other.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s was so beautifully old and full of character and history It’s a loverly hotel and the setting is so magical
Cons: We couldn’t sit where we wanted at breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding historic hotel. Like traveling back in time.I liked the fact that there is no television in the room (WIFI is working perfect by the way). Great staff. Wonderfull food in a classic atmosphere.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting, super friendly staff, relaxing and cost atmosphere, clean and neat
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The historic atmosphere in this hotel is amazing. Entering the hotel, we felt like time-travellers. The main sitting area (with live piano music in the evenings) and the other common rooms like the dining hall were overwhelming. The service in the hotel was excellent. We were travelling with my father who has terminal cancer. When nothing on the menu worked for him, the waiter asked the chef to prepare a special course. This was a touching gesture which we strongly appreciated. The three-course meal which the rest of us had ordered was excellent. The breakfast included 80 % homemade tasty food. Thanks to Dalen hotel for an unforgettable stay. We would love to come back some day and stay longer.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay . Historically Hotel
Cons: No TV in the room. No Refrigerator in the room
Straand Hotel - Vradal - Building
4
8.0 Excellent (257 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Straand Hotel in Kviteseid, you'll be steps from Straand Sommerland. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, a 24-hour front desk, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staying at the Straand is like taking a step back in time, the hotel feels more like being at home with its many nooks and crannies decked out for comfort. The hotel has retained much of the decor from years gone by but this is what makes wandering around so interesting. Overlooking a beautiful lake you are surrounded by nature. Our room was comfortable and clean and the staff here so helpful and friendly. We sat near the bar listening to the piano entertainment early evening and had a snack from the bar which was very tasty. This was just a one night stay for us but we wished it had been for longer.
7.1 Good
Cons: They didn't really make it clear that if you wanted to eat a la carte then you needed to order at the bar before 19:00 otherwise the restaurant was only doing a buffet, which was quite expensive approx. 50 euro p.p.
4.2 Okay
Pros: It had plenty of activity areas but none as we could see were used or well kept.
Cons: Most of the staff were indifferent to us giving a feeling that they did not care. The hotel is geared to large tourist bus tours staying overnight so visitors outside of those tours are not of much importance to the hotel.
6.7 Good
Pros: Great hotel for a stopover on the way to the west coast. Ideal if you plan to go from central Oslo, or that region, and over to the west coast on a 2night's trip. Much used by biker's who're willing to pay what it costs for a bed
Cons: Check'in was a little bit ad-hoc. Reception a bit on the cordial rather than friendly. The hotel rooms are overpriced whilst compared to the offering itself, even by Norwegian standards. While check-in is "digitized" our encounter wasn't straight fwd. Dining reservations was operated by sheets of paper and, apparently, did not correspond with check-in details. Hadn't we asked we both would end up paying double, since we were assigned to double rooms but had made reservations as single. My room had an interesting stair case in it, leading to where I don't know. The bathroom in my room had shower since only one shower door or half a shower enclosure water splashed all over.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was superb, food, room, staff, view from our window
9.0 Excellent
Cons: Nothing
7.1 Good
Cons: It is very expensive.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice location to break journey. Outdoor bar area lovely and good opportunity to meet other travellers. Good breakfast with good variety.
Cons: Reception staff on arrival very disinterested - may have been language barrier? Floors in dining area very sticky at breakfast. For number of guests, more than one waffle maker would ease traffic in dining room!
Nutheim Gjestgiveri - Seljord - Outdoors view
5
9.0 Excellent (298 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Nutheim Gjestgiveri in Seljord, you'll be in the mountains and 13 minutes by car from Seljord Church. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great atmosphere, great food, great scenery!
Cons: A little noise from passing traffic, but this will change once the new tunnel opens later this year.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was exceptional and the location just perfect. We stayed 1 night at the chalet and liked the time we spent there, thought we found it more "rustic" than it looked when doing the reservation.
Cons: Everything was great and there is nothing we did not like. Note, however, that the chalets are actual Norwegian storehouses re-furnished to be used as apartments; as I said, we liked our stay, but found the chalet more "rustic" than it looked from the pictures, which was anyway fine for us. I would probably recommend a regular room in the main building for those who prefer a more classic hotel stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Confort,history,location! And the dinner!!
Cons: Breakfast
7.5 Good
Pros: Historic place. Beautiful view. Lovely meal.
Cons: Poor ventilation in the restaurant and room. No hooks to fix the windows in open position.
6.7 Good
Pros: Location is pretty, overlooking a valley, but there is nothing else around...
Cons: We were asked if we would stay for dinner and said yes (there being nothing else around) and were then without any warning presented with a 4-course set dinner. Although the food was nice and they took into account our dietary restrictions after we asked them what they were putting in front of us (1x vegetarian and 1x pregnant), we did feel like we should have been informed about the dinner set up and price beforehand, and also asked about dietary restrictions before the food was already in front of us... Breakfast was very basic.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great to experience a privately family owned placee like Nutheim. They are rare! The place has long traditions and although everything is in order and fine, it is still much of how it was in the past. It is a pleasure to find these places with real cultural content. You can feel it. The 4 course dinner was great, so was the breakfast.
Cons: I do not know what could have been better. We all felt us absolutely taken care of. Even the traffic on E134 right by us did not bother us and when the new tunnel opens shortly, there is no more heavy traffic passing by.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing, offering a great view of the valley right from the room window. Stuff is super friendly and the building is as well very artsy, even having it's own art gallery in the basement. Serving it's very own home-brew beer was also a big plus. So great place overall!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very romantic, clean, beautiful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hosts and great dinner. One of us had a fall and hosts were extremely helpful with finding medical services.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Seljord Hotel is situated in an old and cozy building. The straff was friendly and the room was renovated and very nice. The bathroom was not renovated lately, but OK. The breakfast was very tasty with lots of choices. I really enjoyed it! Dinner on the terrace was a pleasure.

7.0 Good
Pros: Nice room, comfortable bed, very nice breakfast, nice bathroom, pleasant atmosphere.
Cons: We stayed at Løvheim Gjestehus as a family, with our two children ages 6 and 3 and their grandparents and aunt. We were the only guests as it was off-season. We did not spend much time at the premises, only to sleep and have breakfast, yet it was made clear to us on more than one occasion that our children were best seen, but not heard. We were asked to keep them from moving around and to keep them quiet, which is a little too much to expect from two young children. Our children are not particularly wild, just regular, happy boys. We did not feel that our children were welcome at the guesthouse and would recommend other travelers with children to stay elsewhere. We will definitely not be returning with our children.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A really lovely couple run this small guesthouse in a little quiet town off the highway; they obviously take a lot of pride and care in their work. Spacious, clean and very nicely decorated. We had a delicious dinner of meatballs and veggies and also had a nice breakfast of cold meats, cheese and bread. Next to a supermarket as well if you need supplies.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Back yard was great, kids enjoyed playing chess there. Supermarket is nearby. Bathroom was nice and clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great comfortable and extremely clean. The host was friendly and the breakfast was nice. Highly recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole place has a great atmosphere. You can see that the owners put a lot of effort into decorating, and took care of all details. The bathroom was well equipped and clean, the room was spacious. Breakfast was adequate and since we like Nespresso the coffee machine available with the capsules worked very well for us. The owners were very nice and helpful.
Cons: The bed was damaged (the bed-head was cracked), and squeaked for every turn and move we made.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, helpful hosts Dinner was excellent and breakfast as well!

Pros: Clean, quiet & comfortable ... a perfect stop between Stavanger & Oslo. A really good breakfast, coffee available 24/7. Patrick was welcoming and efficient check in. Patrick went above & beyond duties as the B&B owner when he found a neighbor that helped with a severed fuel line on our motorcycle. On a Sunday in rural Norway we managed to make a temporary repair thanks to Patrick & family ... they are a credit to Norwegian hospitality!
Cons: Zero dislikes!
