We enjoyed the beautiful vistas of the mountains. The hotel provides cover areas just to sit, relax and take it to natural beauty. The building has a very historical almost presidential appearance. It provides direct access to Natural Bridge tickets and gift Center. The hotel provides both a room with interior access or a room with exterior access from a terrace. Our wing of rooms had large windows on both front and back walls to provide plenty of light and exterior views. Staff both at check in and during meal time were fabulous and very pleasant. Our exterior entrance room furnishing seemed a little dated with a very small bathroom. It had no counter space with a 2x2 shower stall. However, they did provide a very nice dresser and TV.
Outside and grounds were kept nice. Room was broken into, but they gave us an upgraded room for the next night. Our original room had a small bathroom and only two towels. Couldn't get room service to give us new ones the next two days, I had to go get them off the cart.
The outside was beautiful when driving in at night. This hotel was nothing like what was described or pictured. First , the staircase to the second floor was rusty and shook when we stepped on it and there were NO lights and we arrived very late in the dark. Second, we couldn't get the ac to work. Upon calling the desk we were told to turn it down to 60 to 55 to get it to work which did work but really? The mattresses lacked support and squeaked every time someone turned over and were covered with what appeared to be very old blankets. The next morning the staff knocked on the door and entered, once at nine then again in 15 minutes, knocked on the door to tell us check out was at 11am both times?! When we could actually see every thing it was just unbelievable. Wallpaper peeling around edges, paint chipping around trim boards, chipped and scratched chest of drawers, dirt in the corners of the bathroom AND roach droppings around the sides, exposed carpet tacks when I stepped on. It really was an unbelievable experience. I have photos to back all this up as well. My mistake for considering historical for any type of style.
The Hotel itself looks wonderful. It is a very pretty hotel. We booked our room thru kayak.com as a king bed and not in the cottages because we heard bad thing about their cottages. We go to check in and guess where they stick us, in the cottages which wasn't even a king bed. My husband so mad. We walked into the cottage which was so small and looked so nasty and outdated and only has two double beds. We went back to the hotel and told them this is not the room we booked. For one the bed size is wrong and for two, we paid more than what these cottages cost. We asked for our money back and left. I will never stay their again. They should have never tired to put us in a room that was clearly not what we paid for.
Most staff Great, but one .. Rhonda. Breakfast service was excellent History, style and basic charm fine Location an asset for us; our usual bnb closed so we tried Rate was great via Kayak and perfect value for room and service Confused and poorly trained lobby person - Rhonda; fumbled with checkin process; slow and slower; rude Tried to add a room for sister in law; not allowed so 2x $; no exceptions per manager; must buy added room on line or pay more than double??? Second room latch broken; smoke detector hanging down; and heating unit vibrating needed tightening to quiet noise!
Staff and location were great. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. We had a great time
I was surprised by the extra friendly service. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is very spacious. With the pleasant service it was a relaxing atmosphere. I would go there again. We arrived late and could not get a late checkout.
The low price was the key as I wasn't planning to stay at the hotel long. It was a very convenient location for running down to the event in Roanoke. The husband and wife team were marvelous! They are so very friendly, and quick to help when asked.
this older motel was in a great location, very clean & nice staff running it. the decor was a little dated but overall it was a great stay
We really liked the fact that hotel was only minutes away from safari park. We asked for a non smoking room and when we got to the room it smelled heavily of smoke. The staff did move us to another room which we really appreciated.
Nothing was good. Cable barely worked, location was in a area you had to travel 15 miles just to find a place to eat. Beds was okay, the bathroom looked like kids just came in and left dirt in the tub. Nothing was good. It's a nice, quaint place. It's older but has been taken care of pretty well. Pretty clean for a hotel of its age. No central heating or cooling. The window units worked ok for us on a cold night, though. Pretty clean place, but it could use some refurbishing here and there. They could use a little reinforcement with the door locks.
Although the hotel was old, it was quaint. It was convenient being able to pull the car right up to our door. There was a nice porch with benches. The staff was friendly. The location, only a few minutes from Natural Bridge, was perfect. The room smelled a bit musty, and the bathroom was very old with some mildew in the shower. The room wasn't spotless, although it was reasonably clean. The staff spoke limited English.
It was relatively inexpensive. I just could not communicate with the front desk clerk. His grasp of English was minimal at best. Five major flaws - Wake up call did not come; Water temp for shower was non-existent. No restaurant nearby. Lighting in the room was minimal. Heat was low.
Price was reasonable and definately easy access on and off the highway. Check in was easy and was quiet and relaxing. Room definately shows its years as this is not a new hotel. The room had that antique smell and the bathroom could use a deep cleaning. The tvs are ancient but you get what you pay for with this location.

The location was close to the attractions we were planning on visiting. Which I thought would be great traveling with a small child. Picture showed it was a two bed room and I got one queen, staff was not friendly at all, the room was not very clean, shower barely sprayed and had some nasty stuff on it.
people were nice more out of the way then we expected, more out dated then in the photos that were available
availability during VMI parent weekend at a reasonable price within reasonable distance somewhat cramped quarters, especially in bathroom
Love the view The restaurant was closed, should have mentioned this when we booked this motel, Wi-Fi sucked. was suppose to be queen beds in room, there were full size beds. There was a crack in the wooden door that you could seen through.
It was a place to sleep, once we got there! Very off the beaten path! Did I mention remote? Diner in the parking lot, just get there early they close at 9 and they are the only food in the area other than from the gas station down the road. Rooms are small, small is generous!
Close to Virginia Safari Yes, need a coffee.
Very clean, excellent location, very nice personal.
Nothing. The smell
Nothing Everything take them off your list
Daytime staff was wonderful!! Night time staff were rude and unaccommodating.
Nice breakfast, spacious room. Nothing.
It was a standard road side hotel, nothing special about it, nothing terrible. It's not worth the extra 20 bucks over a regular best western.
Room was very nice; clean, spacious, and nicely appointed. Checking and checkout staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was okay; standard waffle iron, eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit, packaged oatmeal and substandard bread and sweet rolls. Staff was a little too anxious to restock whatever item someone ate immediately ... Almost made us feel badly about taking something. Also staffed started to clear food before time was up, while people were still eating and just not very nice about it.
Desk clerk that checked us in was rude. The breakfast buffet had no food at 9am and nobody was around to restock. We left and went out to breakfast.
Loved the welcoming staff & breakfast at no charge. So comfortable and clean. Bed linens so nice & amenities
Location and Price are the headliners! The staff was great. Rooms were very clean, but decor a bit dated. Renovation in progress. The breakfast was limited. No real healthy options..ie yogurt/granola and hard boiled eggs. Found one ant and one water bug in room. Told staff, there might be damp walls.
The location This hotel is in extreme disrepair and VERY tired. I sat in a chair in the room and the arm fell off. The printer in the "business center" was broken. The room was not clean. The staff was nice and as helpful as they could be. I will not stay here again unless there is absolutely no other option.
Very clean and comfy Breakfast wasn't great
Room was large Room was dated and bathroom not clean
Relatively cheap and nice clean room. Had noisy neighbors I knew were never going to be quiet....forcing me to switch rooms, which they accomplished with no fuss at all.
Love the location, price, and large room Upgrade the TV
On top of a hill, with a pretty decent view. No chairs on balcony to sit on, tho Breakfast was ok Older hotel, wear and tear show. Went on a motorcycle. Hilly drive up to hotel a patchwork of potholes and temp patches.
Breakfast was limited but ok The room was dirty, debris on the floor, bathroom fixtures were caked with grime, and worst of all there was a used rag from a previous guest hanging over the shower rod. We will not be returning.
In extremely bad condition, sheets ripped and stained, bugs in the room, dirty carpet, a lot of mold in the air conditioner, no microwave...ect
The hotel sat on top of a hill,so the view was beautiful. The staff was nice. The breakfast was good. The hotel is so out dated. Sign says miniature golf, but it is not there anymore. Not worth the money for this type of hotel. I hope the owner will redo this hotel, because it does have that awesome view
Nothing. The place creeped me out severely. Room was dark dingy with wall paper peeling off the walls, had bugs crawling on me in the middle of the night, all the furniture had damage or was peeling, the cloth seat was discolored from body dirt on the seat, back and where you would place your arms to rest, very disgusting. I wore my shoes to walk from the bed to bathroom. The room had a overpowering deodorizer smell to cover up what the room actually smelled like.
Friendly staff, good facilities, easy parking, restaurant next door.
Very easy to get to from the 81. Good dinner options nearby. And the staff was friendly and responsive.
The staff were very courteous and helpful. My wife enjoyed the pool and the large room. There wasn't anything we particularly didn't like. Everything was alittle better than average.
Room was spacious Staff was inhospitable. Front desk clerk insulted my husband at check in. The breakfast hostess picked up and removed breakfast items right out from under me while scolding me for being late anyway.
The room was pretty clean and the staff was nice. The water pressure wasn't great and when we needed an extra towel and were told we needed to go get it rather than them bringing it to our room. The breakfast spread wasn't great either-- it was supposed to end at 10 but even by 9 most things were gone.
Overall clean, very comfortable, quiet, and thoroughly enjoyable. Hours for breakfast differed at breakfast vs. what was listed in-room. Weight machine broken in Fitness Center.
This was a quick stay, convenient to the highway. Check in/check out was seamless since I had booked online. Continental breakfast was nice. I had a hard time sleeping, beds and pillows weren't the best. We got in at 1am, finally got to a deep sleep about 3:30 or so, which was nice.... Until the fire alarm ran out of batteries and began chirping every few seconds beginning at 5:45 am. someone eventually came to change the battery after calling the front desk, but by then it was 6:30 and there was no hope for continuing with sleep. Almost would have been better just driving through the night than wasting $ on hotel.
Convenient location, good parking, nice staff The hotel, especially the second floor, had the overwhelming stench of tuna fish when we checked in. Our fridge had not been cleaned out. They were blasting Fox News at breakfast and I really prefer my kids not watch those mean lying jerks.
Super friendly staff, easy location, clean, and very good value for the money. What more could you want? What didn't I like? I don't know. Breakfast was not incredible, but it was fine. Hint: park in the rear if you want to wake up to your car in shade!
Breakfast Room had fruit flies
Location Dated and less than clean feeling. No alarm clock, no shampoo, thin and old towels.
Location, price Refrigerator did not cool. Bedspread had cigarette burns on the inside. Pillows were flat.
very clean room and bathroom.Parking, superfast internet and excellent front desk.Furniture and TV was dated but everything was clean and comfortable.TV has HBO. It's like your old grandma's house that has old slghtly worn of furniture.Liked it a lot. Bathroom was big but you have mini fridge and microwave inside at one end of bathroom.Keeping food inside bathroom is something i do not prefer. But with everything arrange the way it was and being maintained and clean, I had no issues.
It was a nice place There was no shampoo... And beds were hard
I was a leader to cancel my reservation The property is very dated and would not have been worth half the rate. The owner was difficult to deal with, although after about 30 minutes he finally agreed to grant the cancelation and refund my payment. Poor site and poor service. Just don't even...
Location, rooms were easy to get to and in and out OK. Wasn't terribly clean, TV resolution wasn't very good, no clock in room.
very clean. staff friendly and helpful rooms are very dated, older furniture
It was exactly what I had expected. Priceline prices were higher than what the hotel was actually charging. I thought priceline was supposed to be a cost saving site.
very helpful staff made sure our family was all together.
It was central to where we needed to be on this trip. Ice machine was broken. Curtains were so long they blocked the heat vents and the room took longer to warm up. Our room for 4 only had 3 bath towels and washcloths.
Old air conditioners in the stairwell; stairwells not swept - dead bugs and cobwebs up and down the steps.
Cleanliness, price & location. Not really
The price I guess??? Our room came complimentary with two dead (large) crickets, bits of hardened food on the walls, stains everywhere, smell of mildew, graffiti on the walls, and a half empty mini shampoo bottle left in the shower where we also found another dead bug. We asked for another room when we checked in and they told us they were booked and couldn't move us. I saw the parking lot, it was nearly empty, they could have moved us if they wanted. The only good thing about this place was the price, and I would have paid double for no dead bugs and a food-free walls.
It has a Pool and the usual continental breakfast which, in my case, was pretty conveniend. The Roms are good and nicely sied for the price you pay and you are very close to the highway and only about 8 miles out of downtown lexington. The staff was very nice and I Even got a 10 percent discount while Checking in. Also, the mexican Restaurant right next to the hotel is amazing!!! The walls are very thin and the hotel doesnt have the prettiest outter appearance, and the location is very Noisy with trucks entering and Leaving the highway - it fullfills the purpose of my stay though.
Friendly helpful night manager Poor shape...Door coming off hinges in bathroom...Old full size beds.... Cockroach spotted
Good breakfast Room smelled of air freshener covering up smoking...

ease of check in. no
Nothing The only reason I booked this hotel was because of the pool for my kids to swim in since they had been in a car all day traveling. Pool was closed the entire time we were there.
The free breakfast was wonderful. Sausage, eggs, the works. The staff was very friendly
It was quiet at night. The staff was less than friendly. The hotel is quite in need of renovation. The hotel smells strongly of some type of artificial air freshener.
Great breakfast in morning. Simple but clean and welcoming.
Staff was extremely rude... Staff was extremely rude. Will not return!!!
Breakfast was very good. Pool is small Could use queen beds instead of double bedds
Great location and friendly staff. Drab and outdated decor; barely adequate continental breakfast.
Cleanliness and Staff are very polite in offering best service Pl. keep the coffee machine else where rather than placing in bathroom. Should have thought twice before placing in bathroom.
Close to town. Intense smell of air freshener in the room. Why do lower end hotels insist on using air freshener? No nice hotel does that.If I wanted to be overpowered by the smell of cheap fragance I'd go to Wal-Mart and spend my own $3.50 to buy a bottle.
