the whole thing .. gym swimming pool and restaurant
Friendly staff, good facilities, nice rooms
A first class Hotel in beautiful surroundings. As usual, it was a pleasure to stay at the Bedford Lodge Hotel. Staff are friendly but professional. The food is delicious !! There's nothing really to dislike, but it would have been nice to have a modern tv as this was really dated.
short stay as arrived at 0200 and left at 1100 but the night manager was excellent, I did email in advance to let them know I would be late. My bed was turned down, the manager made me some food VERY quickly and the service was second to none.
They let us check in early at no extra cost as our rooms were ready The bar drinks were very expensive
Very comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff.
Comfortable clean hotel, nice room - I would stay here again if doing business in the area. Bar prices a bit steep - £9 for a large glass of red wine!
nice gym and pool nio tv in bar
Good gym, sauna and swimming pool Temporary building work in progress until March
The Bedford Lodge was a lovely place to stay, the bed and room were comfortable and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant. The hotel has lovely grounds and nice fitness facilities. While there, I took advantage of the pool (unfortunately, the hot tub and sauna were undergoing renovation, but should be completed soon). I usually live out of my suitcase when I travel, but the room was clean enough that I felt comfortable placing clothes in the drawers, where, unfortunately, I left some of them. When I discovered this and called the hotel, they very promptly packed the left items and sent them off to me at my follow-on hotel, keeping me informed of the progress. It is easy to get to Cambridge from there and, if in the area, I would be happy to stay there again.
nice quet location, stables next door a plus tv old and small
Good, clean and comfortable accomodation. Well situated at end of High Street. Excellent value for bed and breakfast. Polite and helpful staff.
Good service, polite staff
Location close to our daughter living in Newmarket, whom we came to see. You the Booking Agent booked us into a Double Room, whereas we requested a Twin Room. We 70 year olds found this when we went up to the Room & found it a Double. Had to go back down, where Hotel impressed us by giving us a Family Room.
Staff were excellent Long way from reception to the room. Breakfast could have had a better selection
Character In a room opposite the Wetherspoon pub on a Saturday night
The bar and resaurant were stark and lacking in any atmosphere. The resaurant menu was poor and did not warrent a rosette.
The breakfast, and the location was central. The rooms were a bit dated, but still comfortable and pleasant.
The value for money and comfort
Initial reception. Waiter/waitress service. food quality Nothing
Water from shower was not hot.
The location of the hotel is excellent, very close to the centre of Newmarket. The hotel is looking quite dated now, it's like a step back in fashion time and could do with updating to modern tastes.
Very enjoyable breakfast. Waiting staff were very accomodating and extremely polite. The rooms are quite stuffy. Only noticed the air con the next morning.
food was very good friendly staff good position would use again
Room was a very good size - comfortable bed etc Room too hot in temperature
The size and comfort of our room
A very good location with ample car aprking Breakfast - although the quality of the food offered was good , bacon etc were not kept hot enough.
Comfort of room and excellent restaurant No
The size of the room. The eggs at breakfast were cooked to order, rather than having sat in a tray for ages, and the bacon was excellent, with thick rashers.
good breakfast, nice friendly personal loud elevetor
I only stayed one night, and had to leave before breakfast due to a long journey ahead, my room was very clean and comfortable.
Very friendly staff Carpets require cleaning in the room. General decor needs refreshing, looks tired and slightly grubby.
Ideal location in the center, excellent breakfast, hotel has been fully updated, Internet access is now included/free, the staff was very friendly. I have stayed a handful of times over the past 3-4 years and feel it has been improving. Definitely my first choice when traveling to Cambridge
Proximity to the event I was going to. Staff not great or particularily welcoming.
very nice staff, extremely good value for money
So pleasant and enjoyable!
Lovely room , the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. Valet parking was excellent. Great location next to shops and restaraunts Nothing of note
The helpfulness of the staff at Reception was very high. I have an accident with my glasses and needed selotape and a pair of scissors. This was produced very quickly. Directions to a local restaurant was also quickly provided together with a large scale map. Quality of the breakfast can be better.
I was held up for three hours in Customs at Heathrow and advised staff that I would not make the first night of a four night stay. They were not helpful in assisting me in finding another Hilton. I specifically was told by the clerk on check out that I would not be charged for the missed night, but discovered that indeed I have been charged and I am writing sepaerately for a refund. Staff in the bar treated me like a vagrant beaucse my room was not ready and I only had casual clothes. It was only when I put my expensive suit on that I received decent service.
The staff were all extremely pleasant and friendly. The room was very large and comfortable and the breakfast was yummy! It is the best possible location for a theatre break as Cambridge Arts and the Corn Exchange are both a very short walk away.
Pleasant, helpful staff Slowish service in the restaurant
Staff were pleasant and helpful Room spacious and facilities good Nice touch to have the magazines to read and the luxuries in the bathroom The lighting in the room was poor - one light inbetween the beds was totally inadequate if you wanted to read in bed - room too dark - an additional standard lamp would have been better. The website indicated that the hotel was near to the Aracde Car Park, giving the impression it was easy to park - in fact it was not. When we arrived the car park was full and we had to spend an age trying to find parking facilities and then walk with our luggage to the hotel. The price also for parking was ridiculous - our main objective during our stay was to drive away from Cambridge each day to stay out of the city as long as we could knowning that when we did return the cost of parking would be far too high. Not something we had bargained for.
The location is excellent. Very close to the city but away from the bustling crowd. The gardens looking out to the river is perfect for a summer wedding. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern with generous supply of toiletries. The internet service is slow in the rooms and rather expensive.
It was a great central location. A comforatable hotel with leisure facilities. The staff on reception were a bit hit and miss with experience and reception was not always manned.
Cambridge is an expensive location by any standards. The hotel in question was generally excellent the only cause for complaint, apart from price, was that breakfast was not included.Bar service could be a bit slow but staff were very friendly. Location was excellent in fact hard to beat in this location and it was worth paying extra for the river view. Lunch in the riverside restaurant was dissapointing but again if you want to relax with a glass of wine and watch the river go by the food will not be your principle concern. As stated above the fact that breakfast was not included for such an amount of money is a bit of a joke.
Location, leisure facilities & overall ambience
All user friendly, pleasant and helpful staff. Car Park charge
The location of the hotel was perfect and the comfort and amenities in the room were excellent. I would also rate the buffet breakfast very highly. This is a small point - the quality of the room service meal could have been a little better and the hotel is quite expensive. However, overall the stay was excellent and I really liked this hotel. For a lovely weekend stay in a great location by the river I would definitely recommend it.
Very loud disco to midnight, we were not warned beforehand, so no chance of sleep after long journey. Not acceptable that we were not warned or offered alternative accommadation
Nice location; comfortable room with great view of river Hotel styling and feel are dated and plain; expensive internet
Efficient friendly staff, clean comfortable room with a river view. Very good breakfast. Only negative is paying a £17.50 parking cost which to be fair is made clear on the website, but a bit excessive I feel.
Hotel was fine but price was not. Friend booked the same room for £79 via Secret Room.com, you charged us £199 per night so we are very, very unhappy about that. The price.
Impressive exterior to the building and well meaning staff The breakfast was hot well cook and hot plates so the food did not go cold No restaurant facilities in the evening - the only offerring was a bar menu of jacket potatoes, pasty or sandwiches. The 'chef' was stopping work at 8.00 pm presumably health and safety were worried about potential microwave overdose. No facilities, other than a bar which had no background music, no tv and no sky sports - all requirements for a business traveller, hence no customers. We popped in to the bar a 6.30 before going to a meeting and returned aat 9.15 - there had been no custom between those hours and there were no other clients until we left at 10.15 Breakfast was on long tables not separate tables and no table service
Excellent food and as a bonus, they had a salsa dance class that evening which I was able to join in. No
Friendly, relaxed service.
The food / dvd player in the room The staff were not particularly friendly and seemed to know their regulars who took priority
Really liked the Garden Room, plenty of parking, excellent meals. Nice bar area. Can't think of any
Owner and staff were very plesant and helpful.
The hotel owners are most friendly and very accommodating. We will definately stay again.
Extremely helpful when my car didn't start in the morning. Went out of their way to get me back on the road. Also one of the staff made me some breakfast before they were open as I had a course to get to and I had been told the wrong time for breakfast by another member of staff when I checked in. Very convenient location for my course. Was told the wrong time for breakfast by a member of staff. Dirty coaster next to bed did not give very good impression on arrival - also still not be cleaned when I got back the following evening. Shower very poor. Pillows hard and bed not v comfortable. Very thin walls - the room next door had their tv on until past 2am.
everthing very good
Comfy with double bed and single bed, plenty of tea and coffee in room. I was in a room outside in an outbuilding which i liked as I didnt have to walk through corridors to get to it. Staff seemed helpful but the place seemed very quiet. No hairdryer in the room which wasn't very handy in the snow! Also, no digital TV so only 5 channels.
Varied choice for breakfast with a pleasant view out onto the river cam. Conveniently situated for the Fitzwilliam, Kettles Yard and shops.
Great location, friendly staff, comfortable rooms. Lovely bathroom. Very enjoyable stay. The much trumpeted "excellent views" were a bit of a damp squib, though. We had a "Senior Fellows" room on the 2nd floor and had an excellent view directly into... the communal kitchen area of Jesus College's undergrad block, some ten yards opposite. The floor-to-ceiling glazing just left us feeling a bit exposed.
The room was lovely and the facilities within it were fabulous. The view over Cambridge was great Having to go outside for breakfast was odd. The lack of a hotel bar or place to meet was a bit strange too. I also think the staff serving breakfast seemed a bit amateurish. It wasn't very clear how things worked and no-one explained.
Excellent room and breakfast. A wider selection of drinks in the hotel lobby would have been good.
Good balcony .excellent aspect on a clear day No car park.not many tv channels.king room bed only 5 ft wide.I thought would be much wider
Excellent location close to historic centre of Cambrige with its famous colleges, Kings College Chapel and punting on the Cam. Breakfast room located outside the hotel itself, albeit in a building immediately adjacent. You still have to go outside to get to breakfast - annoying on cold, wet or snowy mornings.
Excellent staff Excellent breakfast Poor design of room No parking No view
Location, freindly staff, Room was too small, bathroom not big enough, having booked 4 rooms 2 couples outside in modern blocks and the other couple and us inside in 2 small rooms not ideal. room price for bed only for 4 couples we feel was exspensive. looking at the reviews if we had paid £30£-40 less per room like a lot of them we would have been a happier group and would all have stayed for breakfast.
Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. "Off the beaten track" but not far from town
Nice clean room and staff excellent.Lovely pool.Good selection in bar. Buses irregular pm to Cambridge.Taxi option expensive.
We stayed while there was a wedding on and unfortunately we couldn't enjoy a relaxing drink in the gardens as we felt that we were in the way and also there was not enough seating outside, so had to take our drinks back to the room. We had booked to eat in the restaurant in the evening but unfortunately there was a gas failure,we felt we were not dealt with in a very professional way.
The staff are curteous. The hotel atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. The standard twin room that I got was, in my opinion, slightly below in standard for the price.
Very friendly staff. Hope they are paid a decent wage!
food bed single malt
Very pleasant setting and comfortable and clean accom. A good breakfast
The food was excellent, you have a very good chef who makes good use of local ingredients I always have trouble with being too hot at night with a duvet.
convenient and friendly cooperative staff
Very conveniently placed for the city Reception staff weren't over friendly and a replacement hair dryer that was requested never arrived!
Efficient, helpful staff
Location very close to the centre of Cambridge Fire alarm went of Sunday morning and hotel was evacuated
This hotel is like staying at a favourite auntie's house - it is homely and traditional. The rooms are comfortable and warm and the bathroom spotless and with fluffy towels. Continental breakfast and parking included in price which is good. It is very close to the town and university. The staff are friendly and helpful. Would have preferred a duvet rather than blankets.
Its location and the view from my window. Also a good size room for a single. Perhaps room service a little later.
Very well located. Friendly staff Room was unreassonably hot.
Convenience for city.
Good Parking facilities, good range for the continental breakfast, location of hotel The room was small, it smelt rather badly - not sure of what. Croissants were hard at breakfast.
central the reception staff
Nice food, large room. No smoking, (understandable) No mobile phones, No laptops, in public places, No internet unless you have a pc from the nineties with a 52k modem for dial up!!! Not really suitable for the younger proffesional, great for the oldes.
good setting and layout, comfortable bedroom, excellent bathroom charging for internet is bad customer relations given the price
Decent bed and linen Poor service, poor cooking, overpriced breakfast, chipped crockery, dirty carpets, ugly new buildings, view of carpark, need I go on......
Friendly, courteous staff at reception and in restaurant. Breakfast was basic, but actually quite good, particularly recommend the homemade granola! Room was a little cold, the heating is basically electric wall heaters, and not sure this was sufficient for the room. The bathroom also relied on the towel rail to warm it! Restaurnat a little pricey, although the food was very good! Located just a little bit too far to walk into town!
Excellent Hotel. The food was outstanding.
the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. the room was very comfortable and loved the fact that it had a cd player.
Food & peace Poor selection in mini bar
Beautifully appointed new wing added to original building we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Staff friendly and helpful, room well appointed and delicious food served in the restaurant.
Beds and rooms were comfortable. We were moved promptly to an alternative room when there was a problem with the plumbing in the initial room. Pillows too soft
Relaxed pleasant atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff Difficulty in booking a table at a convenient time for us in the restaurant (on arrival). Would recommend others to book a table well in advance of stay. Food excellent though.
Very welcoming, comfortable and clean; efficiently run ; very good restaurant
Friendly staff, clean & comfortable room with every facility available. First class breakfast!
The evening meals was excellent and almost enough for two people
warm comfy bedroom and bathroom possibly the price as it was only for one night
Breakfast rather old and rundown decor.
It is in a great location, both for Newmarket (within walking distance) and for travelling about the surrounding area (a short drive to the major road network). The couple that own it could not do enough for us, they were really friendly, welcoming and went out of their way to be helpful. This has been one of the nicest hotel stays we have ever had.
Acomfortable room, good breakfast andwelcoming staff. a pleasant stay.
I found the staff at the hotel to be incrediable and the food was excellent with great value.
Friendly atmosphere, helpful hosts
Staff were very friendly, particularly the owner, and the food was plentyful and good quality. The first room I was offered had fresh, clean bedding, but had not been cleaned. 8 dead flies on the bathroom windowcill were testament to this. The room I stayed in had also not been properly cleaned, witnessed by stepping on a bottle top beside the bed, and a carpet that had not been vacuumed. I cut my stay short in view of this, and never received any form of apology.
A very spacious room with modern bathroom Needs modernising
The breakfast was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were attractive The room was rather dimly lit and the double bed was rather firm and uncomfortable
We were upgraded on the second night due to our complaints into a crown room. This just about reached 4 star standard. The receptionist who upgraded us was very friendly (the only member of the staff who was!) The hotel room we were given was a twin (we had requested a double). It was small shabby and the beds were extremely uncomfortable (broken springs and lumpy pillows). We couldn't be moved as there was no other room available, but were offered no apology or an offer to be moved the second night. The breakfast was average, the scrambled eggs runny and the service awful (we were seated, went up to get some food, came back and another couple had been put at our table - despite our bag and coat being there!). The dinner was also average. The 'gym' was dated and cramped and the changing rooms filthy.
fast service, good decor
Bath Mat Shower Hooks / Curtain brown stained rust rings these are cheap to buy seemed a shame spoilt bathroom
I found the staff very helpful, nothing was too much for them. The parking was great all in all a very enjoyable stay. Will come again. Everything was spot on.
A double bed for single occupancy The room was generally clean but they had missed dusting lamps and skirting boards - no tea on tray
Extremely noisy; unfriendly front desk staff; small rooms with outdated furniture and electronic equipment. I left 2 hours after arriving because I tought the noise level was too high. The front desk staff didn't even ask me why I was leaving or if they can do anything to help me. They just took the key ( metal, bulky) cashed the check and said good bye.
the staff were happy to help and the facilities were very good. the room was warm and comfortable
Easy to find, Staff very nice, suited our purpose. Hard Bed
Discreet, quiet and private. Excellent bar and restaurant.
Pleasant surroundings, comfortable room, good breakfast, attentive - but discrete - staff. None
Good location on outskirts of Newmarket, clean rooms, friendly hosts, nice cooked breakfast, "homely" and very relaxing
The breakfast was excellent. There were no locks on bedroom doors. The shower for the double room did not work properly.
Room was scrupulously clean and tidy and owners were exceedingly pleasant and friendly. Will certainly stay again. There is nothing to dislike.
The suite we had was extremely comfortable with a kitchen, bathroom, sitting room and large comfortable bed. However the hightlight of the stay was the delicious breakfast cooked for us in the morning especially the sausages.
Very friendly hotel. I stayed in the annexe and the room was very nice, clean and warm. Excellent value for money. Was not able to stay for breakfast as I had to leave early due to my business, but would have like to have stayed. Definately recommend this hotel and will keep the details for next time I am in Newmarket. Good location, very handy for anyone attending the Newmarket bloodstock sales.
