The host was very kind and hosptiable...she had so many chores on her plate, but she handled them all like a champ...I'm convinced she is a superwoman. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing! There is not much in Otorohanga, but Redwood Lodge is fairly close to the glowworms cave.
Loved the overall place. My partner and I were looking for somewhere to stay near Waitomo a day before we booked our glowworm cave adventure package. There were few places to choose from in the area and even fewer that had great reviews and I only happenstance found the Redwood lodge on kayak. It is a very short distance (10-15min drive) from attractions like the kiwi house and the glow worm caves. Because we were driving late to Otorohanga from our arrival in Auckland, we weren't sure if anyone would be around to check us in. Julie was great at contacting me ahead of time (unfortunately I didn't have network access) and helping us settle in despite our late arrival. There have great amenities - a spa and sauna, and free wifi, which I found to be a luxury at all other places we stayed during our vacation in Australia and New Zealand. The room and bathroom were spacious and the bed was very comfortable. She arranged a wonderful morning breakfast before our trip to the caves. We liked our stay so much that we extended it for another day.
Next to everything. Yes the hotel is a little dated but that's what gives it it's charm. The price is very reasonable as well.
A vey beautiful remote location with stunning visuals of the Waitomo area. The building looks very old but well kept, hence the charm. The rooms are very small but I doubt you'll be spending a lot of time in them anyways because the area is filled with things to do! If you are looking for a home away from home experience with all of the normal hotel luxuries, this place probably isn't for you. If you like older charm and simplicity then this is your place. Everything was well done.
Friendliness of staff - cleanliness and comfort of rooms. Overall, was a great place to stay overnight on our journey. Close to all the places we wanted to go. Would stay again. Basically the enclosed bathroom was the only thing that could do with some improving, Needs a window.
Location, helpful and friendly staff, modern rooms with good sound proofing. There is a train track pretty close which may annoy some. And I do prefer showers which are not open. i.e. They have a door to keep water more contained.
Good facilities, close to city.
The comfortable leather chairs, the beds, the decor and the bathroom. The size was spacious and three of us could have coffee at the table nearest the window. There was a microwave but not a sink. It was a nuisance sluicing crockery in the bathroom for re-use and culturally inappropriate. I couldn't get wireless broadband there and hadn't thought to bring a cable as I've never needed to do that before.
Warm welcome abd great accommodation
Comfortable, natural light and beautiful pine interior. The Riverside Studio room is at the back, backing onto greenery, and quiet. It backs onto the railway line but we only heard one train at about 11pm.
Location No wifi, barking dog, stained sheets, poor shower drainage, disconnected fire alarm, wires everywhere, appeared to be a fire hazard. Poor heating system. Carpet from circa 1970. Very disappointed. We would of left but had no other place to go.
The wifi didn't work at all. The room was outdated.Doesn't worth the price.
