Alpenhof Bed and Breakfast - Media - Building
1
9.8 Excellent (65 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Media, Alpenhof Bed and Breakfast is within a 15-minute drive of Swarthmore College and Widener University. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.0 Good
Pros: The breakfasts were delicious. The location is on a beautiful country road surrounded by gorgeous stone houses with tall luxurious trees and big yards. At first we were in Monica's Room, just one bedroom and bath, but after two nights, the innkeeper asked if we wanted to switch to the cottage at no extra charge because no one was staying there. We said yes and the cottage was wonderful--bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining room, powder room, bathroom, day bed, deck overlooking the backyard and swimming pool.
Cons: The innkeeper owns three dogs, possibly part pit bulls, who are not tied up and who ran up to us and growled at us whenever we entered the property. They never attacked us, but it was unnerving whenever they were around. I understand they are for security purposes because the inn door is always open, but it would be better if they owner kept them tied up in front of the inn because it was kind of scary whenever they approached. At least if they were on a leash, guests could go around them without being afraid of an attack! The first room we stayed in, Monica's room, had no chair to sit in, so it was kind of uncomfortable when we were not there just to sleep. The cottage was awesome, but a little chilly, so we put an extra blanket on the bed and covered ourselves with an afghan when on the couch. The inn is on the crest of a hill and pulling into or out of the driveway is a little dangerous if you don't watch carefully for cars coming both ways.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the location was great for my purposes (family reunion) and the breakfasts were excellent and cooked to order. the grounds were well maintained and landscaping was beautiful.
Cons: my only problem was that I could not get cell service at this location. However, that is a carrier issue and no fault of the B&B
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very accommodating
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the eclectic artful environment. Attention to detail. Very clean and comfortable. It felt like you were in your own home not some else's. Very relaxing!!!! Amazing breakfasts! Judy and the two pups are very welcoming! A lot of history in this converted stone barn from the 1700's.
Cons: It's a BnB, not the Marriott in Springfield, PA so there wasn't an iron in the room but they provided one. No negatives!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s the best B&B experience I have. The house is more beautiful than the pictures. The owner is very nice and thoughtful, closed the window for us for the sake of my 19 months old girl safety. The breakfast in an artistic dining room is more enjoyable than the ones in chain hotels.
Cons: My room is cold but the owner gave us reminders when we checked in and there are enough down duvet and blankets in the closet so it wasn’t a problem for me at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Host, Roland, was wonderful. Great home made breakfast, beautiful property!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: GREAT EXPERIENCE! I travel to Philadelphia for work on a pretty frequent basis, but this week everything was either booked or extremely expensive. Looking for lodging along the regional line, I found Alpenhof. WHAT A GEM OF A PLACE!!! Loved everything about the place! Charming and very cool accommodations and the town of Media is a very neat place to visit and have dinner. I will definitely look for opportunities to skip my usual in city accommodations and stay at the Alpenhoff again in the future!
Cons: The only down side is working in the city required a pretty decent commute (uber to train station and 35 minute train to city), but Alpenhof had nothing to do with that. I will still stay there again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a lovely time and what quiet well behaved dogs.....F A B U l O U S breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was fabulous & so delicious, The owner was very friendly & knows everyone by name. The bed & pillows were heavenly, I would highly suggest this Bed & Breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast made to order. started with scones, muffins, fruit, coffee and juice. Previous reviews did not do this justice. What ever you see listed...it was better. No hyperbole at all. Hands down the best breakfast we have ever had at a B&B. Arrived later than we had anticipated. Roland took it in stride. Made us very comfortable. Gave us recommendations for dinner. Downtown area is very nice to walk around in after dark. Common area of Alpenhof was very quaint quiet and comfy. Large soft leather sofa. Nice art work. Plenty of choices for tea.
Cons: Silly question. There was nothing to not like. Stay was as close to perfect as I have ever had.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved this place. Breakfast was fantastic.

7.5 Good
Pros: The BED was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in a great while. This was the best feature for me because sleep is not easy for me and a soft comfortable bed helps tremendously.
Cons: There was NO POOL. The room was SMALLER than I expected. Not much of a view from my window.
4.3 Okay
Cons: Staff did not warn us we were supposed to use the keys in the elevator and we were stuck and nobody responded to the alarm. HORRIBLE smell of the cars coming from the AC system.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient to everything,
Cons: Hotel guests have to go all the way downstairs to access bar in rooftop.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: location, restaurant, valet staff, some of the other staff, room design, bartendar and wait staff were excellent, other staff were awesome around the building, valet process was great and quick, love the specials and the view outside from the restaurant, house cleaner was super responsive and corrected an issue, loved the bathroom with the blue tooth
Cons: rooftop customer service was fair bartender was great front desk and runners were poor, FYI sign for seating was blocked from view when entered by people and no one bothered to explain anything staff dropped a reserve tag on the table and didn't say a word runner explained and did not guide for a solution both were rude, room had pillow cases and sheets that had some stains, front desk staff could have been better, not enough drawer space for more than one person.
9.5 Excellent

Pros: I loved their attention to detail. When I was checking in, i said that we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. When I was in the room for a little bit someone came up with a bottle of wine and glasses to celebrate his birthday! The front desk also sent a text to my cell phone, after a few hours in the room, to ask how our stay was. Really great touches!
Cons: There wasn't anything that I didn't like.

7.0 Good
Pros: Location Cleanliness Restaurant at the hotel
Cons: 1. Housekeeping- didn't clean my room in 4 days. I had to call and request 2. No fridge in the room! 3. Very little toiletries in the bathroom, not even a shower cap. Even body lotion was needed to be asked and it wasn't replaced. 4. Prices are steep, when you discover all this
7.0 Good
Pros: In fact I cannot rate the Inn at Swarthmore because when I arrived at the hôtel at 10H30 PM, they said that the hôtel was fully booked and they had reserved for me in an other hôtel 10 miles further. I was very disappointed that they did not informed me earlier. Apart from that they had reserved a splendid room in an Holiday Inn. The hôtel was really top.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, perfectly located, very comfortable, great staff.
Cons: Small technical glitches getting folio but this was very minor issue
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Big room, sparkling new hotel and very close to the train station for a 30 minute ride into Philly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent quarters, location, and staff
Cons: nothing
5.8 Okay
Pros: The room was clean and comfortable but the walls were incredibly thin. We had our tv on and received 2 noise complaints despite the volume being lower than 2 people having a normal conversation. We did not feel we were able to completely relax and enjoy ourselves as our neighbors called our room to complain if we laughed. As this is a relatively new hotel I was surprised at the poor sound insulation. Not a good place to have a romantic weekend as guests next door will be able to hear everything, and I mean EVERYTHING.
Cons: For the price I expected there to be some sort of complimentary breakfast. The restaurant food was ok but I wasn't expecting to spend over $200 for one night and breakfast.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very helpful. The room was large and comfortable.
Cons: It didn’t have a refrigerator.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very clean; well attended lovely property; staff very friendly
Cons: No lockbox for laptops. When I asked was told “ you can leave in the room, we don’t have crime here”. Crime is everywhere even wealthy communities; this came off a little snobbish and was the only blemish on an excellent visit.

Pros: The facility was very comfortable and convenient to many venues and restaurants. The beds, bathroom and kitchen felt like being at home. Parking was convenient and close to entrances.
Cons: Breakfast was not as appealing as we expected. Only ate there once during our stay. Chose to eat elsewhere after first breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was comfortable and modern. I wished I could have stayed longer to enjoy it! As other travelers mentioned, the closet was fabulous, and I've never thought much about closets before. The breakfast included Belgian waffles, which makes my morning every time. They also had not-great looking fried eggs, decent hard boiled eggs, sausage, bacon, an oatmeal bar, yogurt, and the usual continental stuff available. Free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in the lobby 24/7. The marketplace was well stocked with snacks as well as hard and soft drinks. The location is convenient to the industrial park nearby and has good food options - try the Village Pub!
Cons: There didn't seem to be any good running trails nearby.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was clean and was impressed. T all the immenities. Some were unnecessary for a short stay but if it was an extended stay the room kitchen and supplies would be great. Continental breakfast was fantastic!

Pros: 1. The location is excellent. 2. Th staff is friendly and helpful. 3. The king room was beautiful.
Cons: Nothing.
6.0 Good
Pros: Location.
Cons: Staff at the bar needs to be more customer friendly. Closing it after I entered and not even closing time. Trying to grab a cocktail after a long drive - not cool.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional hotel in a fun neighborhood. The staff are polite, patient, and helpful. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. Bed linens towels, and room appointments are all first rate. Lots of attention to detail in providing glasses, cork screws, ample plugs and USB ports, etc. Breakfast buffet at Chez Colette offers an excellent selection. The presentation, quality of the food, and friendly service are all beyond reproach.
Cons: High price for parking is difficult to justify. The little rooms where the ice machines are located look shabby for a hotel of this caliber. Time for a fresh coat of paint and some updated fixtures.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed great, everyone very helpful and friendly
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location European style French hispitality
Cons: I was locked out of my room. The key lock was defective. I had to ask front desk for keys 3 x and it still did not work. They finally got repair man there but I had to leave room for a few hours. as he had to work on lock
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about my stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location and the beds! Possibly best sleep ever! I literally googled how to recreate their beds for my daughter and I! Rittenhouse Square is adorable! Walking distance to so many fabulous restaurants and feels really safe and quaint.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Sofitel Rittenhouse Square paid attention to every last detail. From complimentary Lavazza coffee and delectable pain au chocolat in the lobby in the morning, to the softest bathrobe in the room that I've ever felt.
Cons: Nothing we could complain about!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed with my 2 daughters, one who has special needs. We had several spots at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The staff was so friendly, the service was wonderful and the hotel was very clean!!!!
Cons: We enjoyed everything. But the view from our room wasn’t fabulous
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent and very helpful staff. Esther at the restaurant is singled out as exemplary and deserves special commendation.
Cons: Room servicing and cleaning is very done quite late - we spent 5 days and the servicing were done on average around 3-4 pm, As tourists, we normally tour in the morning and early afternoon, and would take a rest in the mid-afternoon before the evening activities, and our rests would get interrupted by room servicing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love the location to Rittenhouse Square!!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: BREAKFAST WAS GOOD ESPECIALLY THE COFFEE, GREAT LOCATION TO EASILY ACCESS NEIGHBORHOOD RESTAURANTS AND BARS ON FOOT AS WELL AS ATTRACTIONS AND STAFF WAS EXCELLENT TO DEAL WITH.
Cons: NOISE IN CORRIDORS WAS EASILY AUDIBLE WITHIN THE ROOM. GUEST WHO ORDERED ROOM SERVICE LEFT THEIR DIRTY TRAYS IN THE CORRIDOR OUTSIDE THEIR ROOMS AND THEY REMAINED THERE FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE SOMEONE CAME THROUGH TO PICKED THEM UP.

The 364 rooms and suites are stylish with a local vibe. All guest rooms have been renovated and feature a fresh and contemporary look. Suites feature French doors that seclude the bedroom from the living area, and the Presidential Suite offers guest the ultimate stay.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Logan is centrally located and the staff at the door, cleaning staff, and front desk staff were very pleasant. Unfortunately, we had a fire alarm sound just before 3AM on one of the nights I was there. There was no explanation given occupants, but everyone was evacuated via the nearest emergency stairway. The person who was outside with us was kind and brought small bottles of water to anyone interested. Fortunately, the fire department cleared the building quickly and we were out of our rooms for less than an hour. The entire event was very traumatizing, especially because I was staying alone. I grabbed the hotel robe from the hook on the bathroom door and used that. I was disgusted when I reached into the pocket to find a used kleenex. I think the robes should be laundered following every hotel stay. In addition, a few kind words, or a gesture of courtesy would have been nice for all of those affected.
Cons: The Logan is unable to address my concern; however, I did not like walking to the Convention Center from the Logan. The proximity to the Convention Center was great, but the transients lining Arch Street made for a very uncomfortable walk to and from my conference. Perhaps a complimentary shuttle for convention guests is something that should be explored.(?)
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and amenities
Cons: Bar service was mediocre
5.8 Okay
Pros: The rooms were large .
Cons: The sheets weren't clean and were stained (they weren't stains from us) and when we requested they be changed when we were trying to take a mid-day nap (upon discovery) , it took 4 phone calls and an hour and a half for someone to come change them.
8.3 Excellent
Cons: Bars at the hotel are super pricey;-(
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: There were nothing in the fridge in the room.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Facility is very nice, rooms are very nice. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Didn't like having to pay for wi-fi, especially given how slow it was and it was down for a time. Also, would have liked to have a refrigerator that actually was cold. Why provide warm bottles of water in the room with no way to cool them? Also didn't like having to pay for parking. Had I known about that and the wi-fi before I made the reservation, I would have looked for somewhere else to stay.
6.3 Good
Pros: The common areas and the restaurants are very good.
Cons: The shower did not drained well and we had to wait until midnight the maintenance to solve the problem.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Staff was helpful and welcoming throughout the hotel. Excellent location. Great bar on the top floor. Room had a fridge and coffee maker.
Cons: Bathroom had no electrical outlets, so couldn’t use the supplied hair dryer in the bathroom, and no fan. TV had to load some weird “portal” software which was glitchy and hard to use.
6.2 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel was great, and the room temperature and tv channel selection was great as well. The amenity options were very nice.
Cons: I paid for a room with a courtyard view and was given one with a view of the Street. The towels were very starchy and itchy to use. The shampoo was very low quality and caused both my husband and I to have dry and itchy scalp. The bedding had some sort of stains that they tried to hide by adding an extra sheet on top. The room was also very small and almost crammed. Overall, it seemed like the cost was only for the Hilton name and not for the quality. I’ve paid less for better service and quality in other large cities.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Hotel was clean and rooms very spacious with comfortable beds. Location is excellent and central
Cons: A lot of business people stay in this hotel. The breakfast set up was not great. It took too long to get served. Not ideal if you need to make a morning meeting. A Buffet option would solve that issue
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff’s friendliness; location; room size and amenities
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about the hotel was just perfect! Location was great, away from center city but close enough. Urban Farmer restaurant was very good for meals and drinks. Staff was fantastic!!

Pros: The breakfast was good and very pleasantly served. Although we didn't have any aversions to food, we noticed that some other guests did and the staff very pleasantly cooked them something else that fit with their diet. The staff was wonderful. I had booked the wrong weekend and they straightened everything out and gave us a choice of rooms. The amenities were great as well. There were fully stocked refrigerators with cool drinks and we could ask for virtually anything we wanted from the kitchen. The rooms were very nicely decorated with different themes and plenty of room. The a/c worked well which was wonderful on the hottest weekend of the year. The bed was comfortable.
Cons: I can't think of anything that could have been better! Just wish we weren't so busy so that we could have spent more time relaxing there!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely comfortable Inn in Haddonfield. People who work there are wonderful making sure you are happy with everything. The breakfasts are just delicious and not hurried. We had ours on the outside porch which was special. A perfect 10.

We go to one Union Soccer game a year and stay here because it's so close. The shuttle service to the game and back is an added plus and the shuttle driver is professional and friendly. Who ever manages this place does a great job with the staff. It seems like they all love their jobs. I recommend this hotel for everyone.

Pros: Liked the waffles at breakfast however the scrambled eggs were too wet not fluffy. Loved that they had a selection of things, snacks, beverage to purchase at front desk especially since I had a migraine and was able to buy some Excedrin for pain. The selection was a variety. I was thankful that I didn’t have to leave the facility in order to purchase pain reliever, which was a plus. Also I loved that the pool area as well as the pool was warm temperatures. Perfect to sit in being as though I had my baby who was excited to swim!

Pros: The staff was pleasant and accommodating
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was great! Everything including the rooms were new & modern, staff was very welcoming and the breakfast was pretty good. When booking a quick, last minute trip, everything directly in the city was extremely expensive. This hotel had great pricing and is located down the street from the airport in a quiet area BUT still very close to the city.
Cons: I didn't have an issue with anything.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The beds were very comfortable and the shuttle service was awesome.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The check in process was quick and easy with the front desk staff being very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean. We loved the noon check out time.
Cons: The only negative comment I have is that I think they could use some better lighting in the rear/side parking areas. I realize the hotel is located in a pretty safe/low crime area but I still think it would be safer and more secure with some more lights.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was super.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable, roomy, person at the desk was very sweet when we checked in.
Cons: Check out is at 12:00pm. At 9:30 there was a knock and then someone barges into my room. I yelled out and they left. I immediately put a do not disturb sign on the door. Within 5 minutes more knocking. I yelled out to wait. So they wouldn’t barge in again. I finish what I’m doing and go out into the hall and down the hall there is a maid and a maintenance man. But what’s really wrong ... they took my please do not disturb sign off the door. It just disappeared. I asked them if they needed something and they said “ we thought you checked out”. Really? In 5 min? Extremely rude on their part. These are “grown” employees messing with guest. It was a joke to them. Imagine removing a no disturb sign within 5 minutes of a guest hanging it on their door and knocking on their door again. So wrong on so many levels. I had to ask the maid for my sign to hang it again. She apologized. I felt like I was at a Holiday Inn out on some highway.

Cons: Parking was very difficult and expensive needs better or more bed pillows
7.5 Good
Pros: The night staff especially Renee and Fatima were very nice and helpful. The hotel was very clean and the location was great. The maintenance people in the hotel was also very friendly as well.
Cons: The morning hotel staff wasn’t very helpful and they weren’t communicative about policies. There were like 20+ people waiting to check in while they were just lolligagging around. My girlfriend and I were in 100 degree weather because they didn’t have any rooms available yet and some of the staff tried to joke about me being upset. I don’t find being in hot weather trying to make the best out of your trip funny at all. This was the worst Hampton Inn that I’ve stayed in..
7.5 Good
Cons: Small area for breakfast and very crowded on a Sunday morning.
8.0 Excellent

4.3 Okay
Pros: Beds were comfortable
Cons: Not great area. Expensive for location and condition! Could never get coffee! Iron in guest room horrible. Maids left all the dirty towels in room on first day. Front desk was always busy and couldn’t get service. Called operator few times for assistance and no answer. We have stayed at Hampton Inn’s many times over the years, I feel this has ben the worst! Very disappointed!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Reasonable price
Cons: When I checked out, the staff was super rude and annoying. I arrived there around 5 and she was Standing on left from my side. Except for her, everything was okay. Other staffs were very kind. I think she's ruining the reputation of the place.
