I guess I should've known economy means cars not good, it got me around but I guess I got my wish but the car seemed rickety and about to fall apart, with approximately 71,000 miles what do I expect, but I really shouldn't bad mouth the company because hahaha I may use it again, sorry for telling the truth!!!!!

Prepaid rental. Delay in pickup as their shuttle was caught in a traffic accident. They charge a fee if you are late but don't tell you, they just charge your card.

I had TWO separate bookings, with multiple confirmations. When I got there, the young women at the counter was extremely unhelpful & told me she can’t do nothing for me. Said she couldn’t find any of the reservations. Didn’t even try to offer to book me a new one at the counter, nothing.

The most bizarre and worrisome car rental experience. I would never rent here again and no idea how this business model works as I can't imagine anyone wanting to business there. Very unprofessional and they take so many pictures of the car before and after and try to sell you way overpriced insurance. A total scam! Make sure you have collision insurance personally to avoid this scam! Better yet, pay more for a real rental car company!

Cons:

It was not possible to rent a car through them. Because they confirmed that the car booked is not possible to rent with debit card. Then they ensured that they have other cars that can be rented with debit card, but when we asked what offers they have, they did not respond. Whereas we easily rented a car through ANZ with a debit card.

Everything was perfect. Car was brand new, clean, fully equipped and exactly as advertised. Staff were very friendly. Won't hesitate to rent again from Sixt.

Compact SUV

While the pick up was very friendly I had read reviews about the drop off attendants trying to find any tiny reason to claim new damage. The roads on the island are sometimes a bit treacherous and it would be easy to get a small scratch or knick in the paint, tire or glass. The pickup attendant told me anything under 5cm wouldn't be reviewed, but I figured that was probably a lie. The pickup attendant downplayed the existing damage and the drop off attendant tried to blame me for a preexisting knick in a tire, which was, by the way, less than 5cm. Luckily I had videoed the pickup inspection where the attendant mentioned the knick, but otherwise I would have been paying for a new tire. Even after I played the video for him the drop off attendant still was hesitant to let me go without finding something wrong. The pickup inspection was about 60 seconds and the drop off inspection was almost 10 minutes. There are many reviews like this, and I can attest they are true. Even my video might not have been enough as I videoed the existing damage quickly thinking it had already been catalogued. Obviously it wasn't. This was the worst car rental return I've been through. Anyone renting from here should take about 15 minutes with the attendant present at pickup and slowly video every inch of the car. Or, better yet, there are several other companies on site to rent from with much better reviews, and despite what is written online they all have cars right at the airport, not far offsite. Definitely will not be using this company again. I wonder if all Sixt locations are like this or just this one.

The price was remarkably low, which helped with overlooking the fact that the car was really one of the oldest, most basic ones I've driven in 20 years. With the very hilly terrain of São Miguel, it was challenging at times to keep up. There were absolutely no bells and whistles - no blue tooth, backup cameras etc., which are more or less standard these days.
