When calling to ask if I can leave my car there when I pick up the rental nobody could give me a straight answer even after multiple calls. On the day of when I called I was told I couldn't. I could've been better prepared if I was told ahead of time. Really unprofessional

Staff could have been more helpful, and a little less unprofessional on some accounts when I went for the pickup. When I was standing at the counter it took ages to get the documentation done as the staff was rather interesting in chatting among themselves than paying attention to the customer. Otherwise, overall experience with the car itself was fine, I would give 5 stars on that account.

Way overcharged initially as the system had a booking of 25 hours rather than 24. When asked, the agent stated that there are extra taxes and fees that are “never correct” when initially booked. My daughter rented the car (I had reserved it) so she didn’t know how to answer. Also we had changed the rental to an earlier date but and were charged for insurance twice. The initial charged (two days for 24 hours) was not accepted by Alamo when we changed the date of the rental.

I left my purse somewhere between the rental car return and the train so dashed back to trace my steps and met the nicest enterprise employee ever who quickly took me to the car to check, called his manager and then the manager called the train folks. Happy ending in that my purse was returned and we were able to catch our scheduled flight! It started with two very conscientious Enterprise employees. I failed to get their names but am sending them a high five!

First and foremost the location does not practice social distancing. The waiting area had the smell of cat urine. The car was given to me dirty and not properly cleaned, there were dirty marks and finger prints inside of the vehicle. The car was just dropped off and not disinfected. This is very disturbing especially in this time of Covid 19.

The staff at the open location were extremely friendlyWhen I showed up by Uber to the Enterprise I rented from, it was locked up tight and shut down. I had to call to find out the reservation had been moved 8 miles away. I also had to pay Uber driver to stay and take me to the second location. Terribly inconvenient after traveling all day.

First time using Hertz due to specific SUV requirements that our usual provider did not have available. Pick up was fine and smooth enough. We received the correct vehicle. After an hour of operation, it began producing oil service notifications that persisted the whole trip across country, though oil levels were fine. A previous driver must have had pets as their were flees present in the vehicle. Overall, it got us where we wanted and didn't break down. Fine. Return on other end of country was another matter. The Hertz return location was locked and unstaffed when we arrived at 10am. After waiting 20 minutes, we contacted phone support, who wanted us to take the car to another location (at our time and gas expense, of course). After explaining that wasn't going to work for us, their proposal was to lock the keys in the vehicle and we would be charged a "locked vehicle" fee for the privilege of returning the vehicle safely. After 45min the attendant returned; Hertz had sent him to take care of an issue elsewhere, leaving the location unmanned. After an hour ordeal to get the car returned, and experiencing alternately incompetent and price gauging phone customer service, I'll never use Hertz for a rental again. Just garbage.

Picking the car up in Newark, NJ was very good and smooth. Returning the car in Reading, PA was a disaster. I was told when I originally booked the car, I would get a ride to my residence. When I dropped the car off, it was a whole different story. I asked if I could get a ride back to my home and I was told we do not do that. I asked the Agent if he could call me a cab and he said No, they do not do that. He told me he would give me a list of numbers for cab companies. Needless to say I had to wait over an hour for a cab outside in the freezing cold. I should not be surprised I lived in Reading most of my life and these people are to put it nicely a_ _ holes.

I booked a vehicle rental through Kayak as I was landing at Newark airport and when I showed up at the Herz counter at the airport I was told that they had no reservation. It turned out that the app defaulted me to an off site Herz location that was miles away (which seems perfectly illogical) from the airport and there was nothing the people at Hertz could do because I booked it through Kayak. I had no means of travel to the location in question and the folks at Herz were unable to offer me any assistance. Why the app would have defaulted a passenger on foot at an airport to some far off location miles away from the airport when there is no means of getting there is beyond me. After wasting about an hour of my time figuring out what a bind Kayak put me in, I tried to cancel my reservation, but was informed by the app that I could not. What absolute garbage. I walked next door to Avis and walked out with a rental in five minutes. I am hereby contesting these charges, as I will do through my credit card company, as it was entirely Kayak’s fault for defaulting to an off site car rental without any notice whatsoever to the user. Herz did nothing wrong. This was entirely Kayak’s fault.

I was booked for a Hertz rental 20 minutes away from the airport (when I booked it said “off site but with free shuttle”). On top of that, the specific location I was booked for closed shortly after my flight landed so I could not get a car.

As far as I am concerned they can keep their car racist setup and that’s all I can say not to mention putting two black token in the front of their establishment pretending they are an equal opportunity employer or whatever putting them their to be the bearer of bad news I am not from there so I saw it so plain ...and a very diverse traveled indevidual dealing with all types of people from different backgrounds and ethnicity ..hertz I am personally is very disappointed of you ...but the greatest thing in life is to know

Nothing. Hertz did not have an available car from me at the location my reservation time, even though I made AND PAID FOR the reservation in advance. The location not only ran out of cars hours before my reservation, but they did not think to even call me to tell me that they will not be able to honor my reservation. I had to commute almost two hours to reach the Hertz location. I only found out AFTER reaching the Hertz location that my reservation would not be honored. The location also refused to assist me with my dilemma. I am STILL actively trying to get my money back for a service they refused to provide.Confirm the location will have a car when a reservation is made in advance. I made the reservation over a week in advance. There is NO REASON AT ALL for Hertz to not have a car ready for me when I arrived.

The midsize car we rented had maintenance problems and should not have been rented. Trying to address them took a lot of time from our vacation. We finally exchanged it for another, smaller car at an Avis location in Delaware. That car also has mechanical problems and should not have been rented. It got us to our turn-in location in Norfolk, but was also unsatisfactory. Both cars were not road-worthy.

About a half hour after getting the car, my back passenger tire blew out on the highway. I spent the next hour trying to call Avis emergency roadside help, but the automated help line did not recognize the eight digit car number that was on the key chain (and paperwork) that was asked for and said good bye each call. I must have called over 20 times! Finally I ended up calling my own AAA and they had the thruway authority come and change the tire. Both AAA and the dispatcher at the Thurway authority were very helpful and assuring. This was a terrible car rental experience because there was no help when needed from them.

Pick up was very odd. The lady who was helping to check us in was alternating between rude and falling asleep. Also didn’t ask us any of the questions our neighbors were being asked (ie: would you like ez pass). Moved so as molasses, scolded me after taking my credit card out after legitimately 5 minutes in the machine. Offered us a Yaris but she herself had no idea what that was. Very odd experience.

I didn't use Thrifty. I used Budget. There was a line of about 10-15 people, almost out the door or the building. When I finally get to the counter I was told they didn't have any cars left, so I would have to wait. After a short period they said they found a car for me. They didn't ask if I wanted insurance. The didn't ask if I wanted to fill the gas, or have them fill for a fee. They didn't ask if I wanted to use the transponder for tolls(which didn't work). They didn't tell me why the charge was $500 instead of $250 for a 2 day rental. I had to ask all those questions. I was given a receipt and told a parking spot number. The vehicle had significant roof damage and some dents/scratches to the front end. They never provided any instructions. They did not tell me I had to open the door on the toll transponder to use it. When I did open it, it didn't work. Budget might as well get rid of all the people they have working and set up a couple kiosks. It would be faster and more informative, as I felt like I was asking all the questions and doing all the work anyway.

The line to pick up was very long. Then the only card I had was my debit cards. Even though I had a photo of my Mastercard they said they could not use it so I did not get to rent a car. Budget will take debit cards so I thought I would use Budget again, They were booked, which is why my son rented a car for me at Thrifty online using his card. Not sure if this is a regular occurrence or a one time event (and we were unlucky) but there were a lot more customers than staff could handle. Line took over the whole rental car area (and weirdly there were almost no customers at the other rental companies). Waited about 90 minutes to get to the desk. Staff were polite and courteous but clearly overwhelmed by the number of people. Also I rented an eazy-pass that ended up not working.

We arrived at a busy time so it took a long time to get the car. Many of the other renters didn’t appear to have things set up ahead of time and held up the line. An express counter for people with all the information pre prepared would be good. It took me less than 5 minutes to get checked in.

Bad experience! The car they rented me literally died, the battery couldn't even be jumped by the roadside assistance they sent. I spent 3 hours on my daughter's 18th birthday waiting at the car, dealing with the AAA people who were excellent and professional. Then Dollar sent me an Uber to take me back to the airport rental center (30 minutes away) to get a replacement car and when I arrived, I had to wait in line with all the people coming for new rentals, then the rental person couldn't access my record (I had a case # I gave her) and asked me all these questions that were already asked and answered in the case record. She briefly yelled at me for leaving the car unattended with the car keys in it - which is EXACTLY what the Dollar people on the phone told me to do since it was dead, couldn't be jumped, and couldn't be towed from the garage with the tow truck that was sent since the garage height was too low for the truck. Finally they gave me a new car and it has no trunk, which I wanted since we were driving around cities (NYC, Boston) and I didn't want to leave luggage or bags visible in the car due to risk of break-ins. But at that point I was missing my daughter's birthday dinner and did not want to take even more time away to get back in line for a different car.

Hot, cramped room. Ordered 1car, good price, had to upgrade because that car was not available. Very disappointed. More money. Did not know that I had to pay for additional driver. Also extra money per day. The gentleman that helped me was pleasant. My bill was much higher than originally quoted.

The setup at Newark is a bit messy, it's obviously under some construction. Signage at Terminal C needs improvement. Travelers were being turned away from the AirTran indicating that it was closed when in fact it was actively running.

Beware that the rate given in the Priceline / Kayak reservation can be arbitrarily changed. Beware that the Taxes & Fees in the reservation are NOT all of the taxes and fees that you will pay; there will be additional fees when you collect the car. Beware that the daily rate of SLI insurance posted in the Budget website is not valid. I booked Budget because I thought I was getting a deal, in the end I had to pay about $15 more per day than expected. And the car reeked of cigarettes and not a drop of wiper fluid left.

Pick up was generally fine, however office was in a trailer so a bit hard to find. Also the car we got was a Prius, would have been good to have that pointed out before choosing the full tank gas option as a Prius uses FAR less fuel than a fully gas car. Return was stressful, return area was hard to find, it looked like there was only one staff checking people in at 4:00 on a Sunday so we had to wait a long time for him to get to us and then after he checked us in he said we had to go to the office. I did and the office did not understand why but they guy in the office did some stuff and checked us in finally but way too long and much harder than your competitors.

Payless sign was tiny under a huge budget sign on a portable trailer in parking lot. Was impossible to see. I had to go to Alamo to pick up car as directed by Payless agent. I had Alamo paperwork. When I returned car to Alamo, they almost turned me away and said I had to go to Payless even though all the paperwork now said Alamo and that was location I picked car up from. How was a customer supposed to know that? Newark airport is a pit of sadness and the rental companies are just as bad there.

Car was fine. Pick up process no problem. Returning car to Newark was a fiasco; the signage was terrible. We circled a couple times trying to figure out where to go, but finally gave up and returned the car to Avis. They laughed and helped us. Still not sure what signs we missed!

Pickup was long, drop off was very difficult to locate. One of the employees told me that he had to locate other (many) clients on the streets to help them locate the drop off area. I was an hour and a half late, coming from a long meeting and I was charged an extra day of rental. They are crazy. I rented many cars this is the last time with budget!!!

The wait on line to get prepaid car was over 1 hour in a very hot crowded trailer at Newark Airport. COVID waiting to happen. The car was not clean and only had 1/2 tank of gas. The change oil light was on the whole time I then recieved a call from the last renter of this car ....not Payless to tell me she left a valuable under the passenger seat. It was not discovered because the car was not cleaned properly. Payless gave my cell phone to this person?? I met this person on the highway and gave her the wallet. Very disappointed in the whole process. It was less than Avis and Hertz ....but

I was able to get a car same dayJust about everything. First car had rock damage to the windshield and I was asked to sign off on the existing damage to the car prior to inspecting. The entire facility is trashy and dirty. The worst part is the EZpass charge. Because of the EZpass charge alone, I will not rent from advantage again

Pick up was easy enough though it appeared the car hadn't been washed and there was what seemed to be melted chocolate on the passenger's seat which we didn't know until my husband noticed brown spots on the back of several shirts we wore during the trip.The drop-off experience was miserable. The drop-off lanes were completely full so there was nowhere to actually return the car. There was no Advantage attendant offering directions or instructions. And there was nowhere to leave my key so I could easily return the car and head to the terminal

they were very helpful and for a change, was a very good experience.the only thing I find irritating lately is, that there is not enough advice and information given about tolls, and it seems that the only option is to hire an ex-pass, but it does not seem right, I am sure there must be a sight which you can look up if you are due to pay any toll ? So many other rental companies really push their add-on insurance, but not Sixt. The agent did try to get me to opt for their EZ-Pass for tolls (at $34 plus tolls), which isn't really necessary given the new cash-less toll policies in the area (but you have to respond to pay your tolls). On checkout, their receipt documents all "damages" to the vehicle (scratches, etc). All in all, a great car at a good price. Quick and painless return. I'll definitely use Sixt again.

The SIXT staff is quite rude and slow. Their line at Newark was 2-3x longer than the comparable vendors. We got to the front only to be told to wait for another hour for a car. There's a reason it's cheaper, the service is worse.

I have never had a worse pickup experience, EVER! The staff were slow and rude, making personal phone calls and playing on their cell phones while I waited in line for 35 minutes - there were only 2 people ahead of me. I was given an "upgrade" to a car a did not ask for that was dirty inside and out, and smelled very strongly from marijuana and air freshener. It was so nauseating I had to drive with the windows open for the 3 days I had the car. Drop off was easy, and the staff was pleasant. Will never rent from Sixt at EWR again. I have had nothing but excellent experiences with Sixt in other locations.

We were traveling for death of my mother and had one too many items happening, we missed calling in earlier and called on the road tried to explain but they would not here me out and told me 1 day extra would be charged on the 2hr. delay return. felt brushed off and treated as a number instead of person with a significant loss and excusable delay.

Did not get vehicle I expected. SUV Series 4 was fine . However, gas gauge did not not alert me when tank was approaching empty. Vehicle stalled out in a very dangerous highway location in NJ. Had to call 911 and eventually my USAA insurer came to the rescue with fuel. After calling SIXT I was given a tel # for their Roadside Assistance but no one responded, Very precarious situation.

Drop off was super easyCalled a month ahead of trip and asked if debit cards are accepted. Was informed that they would accept a debit card but a higher deposit is required. No problem there, but upon arrival was then told I'd be charged an extra $30 per day on top of the higher deposit for the daily damage waiver insur.

I rented a car in advance and the rental company at the airport closed earlier than their stated closing time and I missed the rental. So I had to rent another car and lost the $200 because it’s non refundable due to 3rd party rental. I will rent directly from the rental company from now on.

I arrived from my flight about 30 min late due to weather delays. After waiting for the shuttle for 20 minutes that never came I was even later arriving to the rental agency after needing to pay for a taxi and they were closed so I called and cancelled my reservation. I was never contacted by the rental agency.

They forced me to buy insurance at the pickup desk at a daily rate saying it was a state law requirement and they don’t include it in their price on kayak. No idea if the requirement part is true but I’ve been renting cars in NJ for years and no other rental company has ever forced me to additional insurance at the desk. The insurance rate was over $15/day and more than wiped out the price advantage that has caused me to book in the first place. I booked a midsize SUV and they gave me a Chevy Trax. Car was not particularly clean and only half full of gas. Granted they said I could return it half full. Will not be going back to this company.

Pick-up counter was a nightmare-- we waitied 30 minutes. They were woefully understaffed, and all but one of the staff was ridiculously slow. The location is also very difficult to access when returning the car. It's like some kind of google map exercise to see if you can actually find the drop-offMore staff, or at least one that felt some sense of urgency. Unfortunately, the location issue is a bigger issue with Newark Airport.

Nice car but not enough explanation on how to operate the features of the car.Getting to the rental location was difficult, no clear direction on where and how to get a pick up. Everything is on an app. and that is a pain if you phone is no working well.

Please ensure that u add additional time to your booking in the beginning itself. They charged me for 2 whole additional days for returning the car about 3 hours late. Also, the Audi Q3 is not the best option for a long drive. The car hydroplaned massively on wet road conditions in upstate NY. Seat quality and ride quality left a whole lot to be desired. Overall, I’m extremely disappointed. Wouldn’t be recommending.

not truthfulI was able to reserve a car on line to drive from Manhattan to Cleveland. I even received a confirmation number. When we called to verify, we were then told that we could not have a car with a one way trip to Cleveland. I then received 2 texts and 2 phone calls requesting that I forward my information regarding the rental. During the last phone call, requesting "where I was" it was indeed clarified that I could not rent the car one way to Cleveland and the person on the line would just cancel the rental "for me". Really? It was confusing and frustrating.
