First time using Hertz due to specific SUV requirements that our usual provider did not have available. Pick up was fine and smooth enough. We received the correct vehicle. After an hour of operation, it began producing oil service notifications that persisted the whole trip across country, though oil levels were fine. A previous driver must have had pets as their were flees present in the vehicle. Overall, it got us where we wanted and didn't break down. Fine. Return on other end of country was another matter. The Hertz return location was locked and unstaffed when we arrived at 10am. After waiting 20 minutes, we contacted phone support, who wanted us to take the car to another location (at our time and gas expense, of course). After explaining that wasn't going to work for us, their proposal was to lock the keys in the vehicle and we would be charged a "locked vehicle" fee for the privilege of returning the vehicle safely. After 45min the attendant returned; Hertz had sent him to take care of an issue elsewhere, leaving the location unmanned. After an hour ordeal to get the car returned, and experiencing alternately incompetent and price gauging phone customer service, I'll never use Hertz for a rental again. Just garbage.

Picking the car up in Newark, NJ was very good and smooth. Returning the car in Reading, PA was a disaster. I was told when I originally booked the car, I would get a ride to my residence. When I dropped the car off, it was a whole different story. I asked if I could get a ride back to my home and I was told we do not do that. I asked the Agent if he could call me a cab and he said No, they do not do that. He told me he would give me a list of numbers for cab companies. Needless to say I had to wait over an hour for a cab outside in the freezing cold. I should not be surprised I lived in Reading most of my life and these people are to put it nicely a_ _ holes.

I booked a vehicle rental through Kayak as I was landing at Newark airport and when I showed up at the Herz counter at the airport I was told that they had no reservation. It turned out that the app defaulted me to an off site Herz location that was miles away (which seems perfectly illogical) from the airport and there was nothing the people at Hertz could do because I booked it through Kayak. I had no means of travel to the location in question and the folks at Herz were unable to offer me any assistance. Why the app would have defaulted a passenger on foot at an airport to some far off location miles away from the airport when there is no means of getting there is beyond me. After wasting about an hour of my time figuring out what a bind Kayak put me in, I tried to cancel my reservation, but was informed by the app that I could not. What absolute garbage. I walked next door to Avis and walked out with a rental in five minutes. I am hereby contesting these charges, as I will do through my credit card company, as it was entirely Kayak’s fault for defaulting to an off site car rental without any notice whatsoever to the user. Herz did nothing wrong. This was entirely Kayak’s fault.

I was booked for a Hertz rental 20 minutes away from the airport (when I booked it said “off site but with free shuttle”). On top of that, the specific location I was booked for closed shortly after my flight landed so I could not get a car.

As far as I am concerned they can keep their car racist setup and that’s all I can say not to mention putting two black token in the front of their establishment pretending they are an equal opportunity employer or whatever putting them their to be the bearer of bad news I am not from there so I saw it so plain ...and a very diverse traveled indevidual dealing with all types of people from different backgrounds and ethnicity ..hertz I am personally is very disappointed of you ...but the greatest thing in life is to know

pick up and drop off was quick and easy. Manager Latasia was helpful and super friendly.In my case, I can't think of any necessary changes/improvement that needs to be done.

Nothing. Hertz did not have an available car from me at the location my reservation time, even though I made AND PAID FOR the reservation in advance. The location not only ran out of cars hours before my reservation, but they did not think to even call me to tell me that they will not be able to honor my reservation. I had to commute almost two hours to reach the Hertz location. I only found out AFTER reaching the Hertz location that my reservation would not be honored. The location also refused to assist me with my dilemma. I am STILL actively trying to get my money back for a service they refused to provide.Confirm the location will have a car when a reservation is made in advance. I made the reservation over a week in advance. There is NO REASON AT ALL for Hertz to not have a car ready for me when I arrived.
