KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Las Vegas

  • Las Vegas has a few specific road conditions to watch out for. For example, at some intersections, a flashing yellow left arrow indicates that you are allowed to turn left, but only after yielding to pedestrians or other traffic. After the flashing yellow, the signal may change to a solid green or solid yellow light. A solid green light is a standard left turn signal, while a solid yellow light means that a red light is imminent. Additionally, Interstate 15 is known for frequent traffic jams and accidents, often due to unclear road signs, constant road construction, heavy tourist traffic, and intoxicated driving. Be sure to pay extra attention when driving on I-15.
  • Finding parking for cheap car rentals in Las Vegas can be tricky depending on where you go. If you're traveling around the Las Vegas Strip in the evening, keep an eye out for free parking spots on some streets after 6:00 p.m. If you can't find any, consider going to one of the parking garages. Typically, hotels offer free parking to guests; otherwise, it can range from $1 to $20. To avoid the hassle of searching for a spot, especially on busy weekend nights, it’s advisable to splurge a bit on valet service—don’t forget to tip the valet as well.
  • No visit to Las Vegas is complete without a trip to the Strip. However, drivers should be aware that the Strip is filled with distractions, making it easy for your attention to stray. Because of this, it’s important to stay focused on the road, especially since drivers ahead of you may also become distracted and drive erratically.
  • Rush hour traffic is no laughing matter in Las Vegas. Congestion can become quite severe during the morning rush (from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.) and in the afternoon (from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.). On weekends, after 4:00 p.m., there is also a separate tourist rush that fills the streets again. For standard workweek traffic, I-15 and US 95 should be avoided if possible, as they are two of the most heavily impacted highways during rush hour.
  • Although the Las Vegas Strip offers plenty of entertainment, the areas outside the city center also provide many outdoor activities, making it important to find affordable car rentals in Las Vegas. For example, taking public transportation to Spring Mountain for hiking can be challenging, and hiring a taxi may become expensive. However, renting a small compact car or a large SUV to drive to the trailhead is simple, affordable, and takes about 30 minutes.
  • Having a car available is of key importance if you plan o
