What are the pros of staying at Tecnohotel Casa Villamar?
The property is clean and reasonably located 10 min from the malecon. The rooms are big and good ac. Very plain. Large rooms, high ceilings. It’s a lovely heritage house with a pleasant vibe. Comfortable and clean room. The hotel was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and greeted us graciously. We stayed only one night, but the stay was very comfortable, they even provided us with an extra towel. I would recommend staying here and I hope to come back one day! Beautiful hotel & rooms. Great location & attentive staff! All of the staff made us feel at home and welcome! The pool and the proximity to the beach was nice. The size of the facilities...very high ceilings, wide hallways, large balconies and a view of the ocean. The staff was super friendly. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Perfect Location, Parking, Friendly Staff. Great location at a great value. The facilities were very nice. The staff was very good, friendly and attentive. Very kind staff, clean and comfortable rooms, quiet location about 15 min walk to the malecon. Felt very secure. Keep your expectations in check: this is a very low key and moderate inn located in an old mansion, maybe comparable to a pension in Europe. Note there are 2 floors and no elevator. Good air con in the room and reliable hot water in the shower. There is access to the Gulf of Mexico across the street, the water is clean and warm for swimming: water shoes are recommended. A charming hotel with a pool and loungers. Large room with good aircon. Staff friendly and helpful. The whole stuff was helpfull, Gerardo welcomed us with a nice smile and helped us for all our needs... The beach is practically right across the street. Netflix and Co. available. Beautiful mansion converted to hotel. It is located in a quiet area and steps from the beach. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Very friendly welcome, large room with good AC, good bed. Good and fast privat clothes service/washing. Good price/service relation. Free coffee during the day. Nice and clean pool. Very quiet neighborhood. Beach just over the street. Lovely, clean old world charm , directly across the street from the beach. Great staff and rooms. Excellent cleanliness and location, staff went above and beyond to help us enjoy our stay. A wonderful stay in a beautiful building. Big rooms, clean bathrooms and nice staff. The staff were lovely and the building is great. Great location one block from beach. As I have disability, not having an elevator was a challenge. Room clean and spacious. The food, breakfast, lunch, dinner was excellent! Kudos to the chef! Amazing sea food! Everything was great! Old world charm and class right on the beach.
What are the cons of staying at Tecnohotel Casa Villamar?
No one seems to really care if you request something. We don’t speak Spanish (which we should learn) so seems like a real barrier. We left and found a studio downtown for half the price. Water bottles were not left. 4 of us and only 2 towels in bathroom. Dirty bathrooms. The coffee machine by check in did not offer some of the available options. The beds were too firm. No hot water. Room smelled awkward. The bedrooms lacked character and were clean but very spartan, no decor. The staff were weird and inattentive. we had to ask for a coffee, and breakfast was never offered. They did not engage us. The bathroom shower entrance flooded a bit and none of the rooms faced the ocean. The breakfast food received was adequate and the fruit very good. The pricing and the breakfast expectations were not completely apparent to us. The coordination of services was not as organized as what was advertised and then delivered. The building has the hallmarks of a lovely old hacienda converted for the enjoyment of experienced travellers without too much overhead. We liked the place, location and the weather. The Casa Villamar has a wonderful appeal, look for an almost 100 year old beach retreat with only 12 rooms. Clearly there is many attributes that accent its age, architecture, and its attributes of time when things were much simpler. However, given the cost for the master room per night, as it was the off season, the acumen for our nights stayed was not in line with the value expected. The hotel doesn’t lend itself to the room charges offered, and simply lacks the services that should align with their prices. The place is elegant, neat and tidy and the minimal services available from the staff is fair but not exorbitant. The expectation to any highly priced hotel is the establishment pays attention to all the details. Regrettably, some details in the rooms, on the building, within the common areas need addressing as with any facility needs up keeping and maintenance. We really liked the place and indeed enjoyed our stay. What is marketed, promoted and advertised and delivered fell somewhat short in the incidental services, and value for what we paid. The mattress was a bit soft for my liking but the bed and bathroom linens were new and changed regularly. Employees do need much more training in the breakfast service. Breakfast in general could be much improved. Too little beverage offer in the evening. No wines available, just beer. poorly managed, No atmosphere, breakfast a joke. The plumbing struggled. They did not manage to get the wc to flush reliably. Wifi variable. The plumbing struggled. They did not manage to get the wc to flush reliably. Wifi variable. Room opposite reception and staff rooms. Far too loud. Cleaning the rooms every day was not done I had to ask to change my towels empty my garbage clean the bathroom In the 7 days was there I seen the cleaning only 3 times. The facilities are functional but really basic and aged. The breakfast included of coffee, fruits and toast could not be less. Our bathroom had a bad smell and we could hear everything outside of our room in the hallways. No decorations on walls in the room whatsoever. Paint was dull beige and moldy or stained in some parts. service was slow in the restaurant. The wifi was terrible, had to walk around the hotel to get a little signal, none from our room. Leaking bathroom, late checkin, dirty pool water, employees looking into their phones all the time doing nothing. No masks… The bed was hard and the rooms were stark with no art or personal touches which is a shame as they are large. Felt cold and empty. There is a lot of opportunity for improvement. No coffee in the room. wi- fi barely worked which was a major inconvenience. Pricey compared to lovely places in Merida and Mexico City for the same price or less. Everything was perfect.
