Friendly and helpful staff We would have liked tea making facilities in our room or available as room service
The loacation is quite good, not far from the city center, easy to walk They have rooms ready after 16. 00 ! Unbelievable system!
-Staff allways friendly and most of the time hepfull -nice breakfast- buffet (excepted the orange juice) -close to the main shopping street -private parking -Free wireless internet not availlable in the room like advertised. I got a signal in the room and after I asked I got a key at the reception. The key didn't work. Later on, I was told, the network wouldn't need a key at all. You may be lucky enough to find this hotspot in the room, but connection isn't possible at all because the signal-strength is far to low. I suppose they have wrong set up the wlan on that flor (or in the entire hotel?), because it had a WLAN-Router on the wall near my room. I suppose that was the secured signal I found. Unfortunately, staff had no real solution for this problem. -Orange juice wasn't real juice, more some kind of orange-colored water
Located in the center of the town Old hotel with traces of humidity in the bathroom
Near the town centre. Free car parking. Reasonable cost. Clean and cosy. Rooms were small. Limited tv channels.
Nice place, clean, good breckfast ,perfect location for a couple of night during Iceland classic ring tour.
Kind staff Ordered meals for conference was not always on time. There eas no toaster for the toast bread for breakfast
location, hotel staff lack of cleaning in room, especially the floor. Rooms a bit small.
Fosshotel Lind is very convenient for central Reykjavik and also for going on tours. Once Carpe Derm is back in operation it will be back to being a very good all round hotel.
Friendly staff, clean - Noise (doors, highway) - tv quality - monotone breakfast - bathroom needs a facelift
The breakfast was good, the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and helpful. It wasn't a bad walk to downtown Reykjavik (only 40-50 mins), and it has a beautiful view. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms upstairs were cozy. While there was only one shower/toilet per gender per floor, I only had to wait once to use the bathroom. Mostly, people were polite and did their business quickly. (It helps if you're showering in the evening, I suppose.) The noise from the road is very loud, but if you're tired it doesn't matter. The water from the faucet smelled like eggs (sulfur), but it was't terrible. The water pressure for the ladies' shower on the second floor was pretty bad, but I was still able to get clean.
The breakfaste and service.
Breakfast was very good Too far away from everything, no transport (shuttle bus did not work) on website the free shuttle bus service was stated, which made taxi transport very expensive
Guests were mostly international students and fun to visit with them It was more like student dorm. & family hotel and was no 24hr staff to wake you up!! You must have your own alarm clock. I almost missedmy early morning flight because the alarm clock the hotel lent me did not go off!!
the staff were very friendley and helpfull, good english spoken so that was good being english, the breakfast was excellent value, with a good all round sellection, the hotel was very good value for money, the rooms were cleaned, and supplied with fresh towels each day. I was very happy. It is a little off the beaten track, but for people of moderate fitness this presents no problem, and the busses are regular, and within reach of the hotel.
Hotel personnel and breakfeast. Also the possibility to make your own meals Hotel is located just by main road. So if you have the room from road side it can be noisy
Convenient and well located. Quiet. Beds were a little dirty.
Rooms are well-equipped VERY helpful staff breakfast had good quality food and a good variety quiet neighborhood room smelled a bit musty only two toilet/showers per floor of about 10 rooms
The facilities were clean and the staff was welcoming. Breakfast was interesting.... So is every breakfast bar at hostel/guesthouse style lodging. I knew what type of facility its was so I knew what I was getting into. All around solid performance.
Excellent price near the downtown area (not walkable), reasonable accomodations Felt like a lower-end US chain hotel with shared bathrooms. Good for what it is / what you need, but didn't have the character of a guesthouse nor the benefits of a real hotel.
Friendly and helpful very nice could not have found a better spot! It did rain a day or two but no trouble otherwise
Cafe area, easy access to Sadcars No top sheet, blanket charged extra, rooms colder than hall even with 10 people, no laundry
Classy breakfast buffet, wide spaces in the dorm rooms, not too cramped, evening shift front desk worker "Gary the Great" is a not a cool friendly dude, but extremely helpful.
laid back fun atmosphere There was nothing I didn't like
Friendly staff, decent location, clean dorms, nice locker for suitcase. Not having bathrooms for both sexes on both sides of the floor. Layout of dorms not great. Bad internet
This review is about the two floors of the hotel which are a hostel, not a hotel. They lend you a tiny (nearly a joke, I guess) lock to put on the small cubby boxes in the room. 1000ISK deposit. The kitchen contains dishwashers. I stayed in a room with 12 or 14 beds. The doors on these rooms are "underdamped", meaning they are designed or adjusted to slam very very loudly if you let them close by themselves. It shakes not just the room, but is even obnoxious during the day if you're in a common kitchen or lounge down/across the hall. The door in my room was slammed AT ALL HOURS of the day except 12h30 -- 03h00 a.m. by the absurdly inconsiderate guests. The problem is that there is no effort by the hostel to tell people how to behave, and for some reason a large cross-section of the sample of young travellers in my room seem entirely oblivious to the surely-obvious effects of their actions on other people. There were no quiet hours announced. No one was told to close doors quietly. I was dumbfounded how people stayed up shouting, drinking, etc inside the dorm room (there are couches) until midnight, even when others were obviously trying to sleep, and the same people when they were on a different schedule, were up at 03h a.m. sharp talking loudly, and slamming the door countless times again. I mentioned to the staff that there was an educational solution (maybe) to this problem, but they didn't seem very interested. In addition to all that, the rooms, which look nothing nice as clean as in the pictures online (of course), have little cubby boxes below the beds where you supposedly can lock your valuables. The locking tabs are a bit of a joke, maybe, but in my room several were actually broken off anyway, so there was no way to lock them. This was my worst hostel experience ever.
Location close to Reykjavik sites, but very quiet. Staff were helpful and friendly, helped us with dropping off a rental car and info about getting to the airport, etc.
We appreciated the computer, the staff were very friendly and helpful, receiving packages and messages for us. The rooms were clean. Location was very accessible and staff was very accommodating in dropping off large amounts of luggage early One member of our 7 , had a bad mattress. Some oil or wd 40 on some of the squaky doors would help a lot.
It was great to have the fridge, tea and coffee facilities as well as a computer with free internet access in the room. The bathroom and washbasin in the room was not cleaned during our stay which I missed a bit.
No problem with check in in the middle of the night. Friendly people at the reception. Clean and comfortable and good value for money.
I've been travelling quite a lot staying in many hostels recommened by Lonely Planet and other guidebooks, but I find Floki as the best one (sleepingbag dormitory). Staff is increadibly friendly and helpfull, Internet connection great. As people staying in the Floki come to Iceland for different purposes (business, holidays), it isn't a place where you meet bunch of drunk backpackers. a kitchen is great with a dinning part nicely arranged. During a high season you might wait in a queue when going to a bathroom.
Cheap, nice and helping staff, basic but had everything you need Smelly room without proper air ventilation. Not so clean toilet (downstairs)
For problems with the suit-cases and with arrangements with the car rental service and immediately and one helped uncomplicatedly.
Easy to get to (Flybus+), clean & comfortable, internet pc, washing & drying facilities available for guests to use (a pleasant surprise as I don't remember seeing this on the website). Plenty of food at breakfast. Easy walking distance from the main shopping area. Problem with a blocked drain (which had been fixed when I returned for my second visit), washbasin in room (2nd stay) had no plug and tv would not stay on-channel.
The night shift staff is friendly and helpful. The room is very basic but clean. The location is a bit far from the city center (10 minutes walk) but it was in a quiet neighborhood and I had great sleep. Great value for the rate that I paid... The bathroom could be cleaner.
Floki is a smaller, family-run operation which is efficient but also personable. The facilities look like a cottage with a dining annex. My room, though small, was clean, well appointed in an IKEA style, easy to access and had free wireless. The nearby shared restroom was also well-kept. The breakfast was delicious and the dining lounge is spacious and sunny. The proprieter is very welcoming and helped me to order a cab for a very early morning flight to the airport. Also, one day I'd accidentally locked myself out and didn't realize it until I was down the street, but upon my return I found the key back in the door, no problem. It's not luxury, but the service is excellent. Support local businesses and stay at the Floki The only thing I found a bit challenging was the location; Hotel Floki is located on a busy thoroughfare a few blocks walk from one of the main shopping streets leading towards the more quaint historic district and the waterfront. So if you are self-catering you will need to walk a bit to get food. But otherwise it's a great place to stay.
Interior of the hotel was very clean, location was pretty good, and the free WiFi was useful and worked well. Room was much quieter than many hotels, with earplugs in I only heard hallway noises (not the people next door, above, and below, as is common). Breakfast was decent (but plates, bowls, utensils, and cups could be in short supply). Check-in was inconvenient but they do have a nice luggage room and were perfectly willing to hold our bags both day of arrival and day of departure, while we did some sightseeing. It felt a lot like a hostel - difference being the fact they provided sheets and own bathroom. Breakfast was better than what's offered at most hostels I've stayed at but felt very similar otherwise (complete with threatening signs). Our reservation paperwork said check-in was at 2:00--when we arrived, staff was insistent that it was 3:00, and no, no early check-in available. Well before 3:00, the lobby was crowded with people waiting to check-in.
Good price. Clean. Free Breakfast. Shuttle to the bust terminal. Tiny beds and bathroom. Not the best location in Reykjavik.
Room looked like it had been take from an Ikea Catalogue - devoid of any decoration. We stayed in the new section which was very clean and the beds firm. The inclusion of a fridge was a nice addition. Iceland it seems is always cold and the heating in the hotel worked very efficiently. WiFi worked well in the rooms. The young men who worked on the front desk were always helpful and friendly in arranging tours and airport buses. Its close location to downtown was nice - the whole area around the hotel is undergoing renovation so there is some noise with possibly more to come when the hotel across the street starts work. Theses inconveniences are possibly why the hotel has such competitive rates. Having stayed in Iceland previously I found the lack of variety in the breakfast difficult after 4 days. Food is incredibly expensive in Iceland so the inclusion of a cold breakfast with juice and coffee is a great added advantage. In the new section small things like a tv that you can view from the bed (as there is only one chair) would have been a great idea instead of mounting it directly to the wall close to the window. An electric kettle would be a nice addition an added item in most English, Scottish and European hotels we stayed in.
The warmth and flexibility of the desk staff (who had my room ready early after a 2:30 am arrival (Boston time) at the airport), and my lovely view of the mountains across the bay. Th desk staff also phoned the flybus when I left my gloves on it and packed me a sandwich breakfast for an early departure. The location is a little remote from the town, and the steps up are a little steep - but well compensated by the fact that the view is great!
Close to everything, but quiet. Beds were comfortable, staff were nice. Parking available. Breakfast was sufficient. Internet access Small tv's and showers, but this is typical for Iceland.
It is a bit further from the centre on the ground than it looks on the map :) Still within the range when walking doesn't get annoying (takes 20 min or so). Friendly staff and good price (got 51 euro/night for a week long stay). Free Wi-Fi (but they seem to charge for cable connection). The room was rather basic (compared with "average" 3 star hotels "on continent") and I certainly would wish for a somewhat larger bed. Breakfast was ok, but nothing to be excited about.
Location and breakfast were great!
Good reasonable food in related resturant. Good quite but convienent location. Staff most helpful and friendly. Our group of 6 had no complaints. Met or exceded all expectations for type of hotel.
Very comfortable rooms, good breakfast and helpful staff. Free guest computer was available for checking emails etc. Easy walk to resturants and tourist information office.
Warm, comfortable and clean room with plenty of hot water for the shower. Tv remote was difficult to work. Not enough tea, coffee, sugar & milk available in the room.
The receptionist was very helpful. Rooms in good clean condition and attractive restaurant attached was very convenient.
The breakfast was very nice, the rooms were clean, it was a quiet place to stay at, it was not a far walk (5 minutes) from the main downtown area.
The staff was very friendly and there were no bad surprises of any kind. It is not in a very busy area. I wasn't as close to stores and things as I would have liked on this trip. During a busy party season, it would be a quiet place to stay.
Great Service, Very Clean, Very Hospitable. Bring your walking shoes, it is about 20 min walk to downtown, but its well worth it for the quality of this hotel.
good location , ocean view , free wifi , free coffee machine/hot water , heating is very good regulated in room and in bathroom water is a bit volcanic taste ; room service only once in five days
Staff very friendly and the place was very clean.Beds were very comfortable It would have been nice to have been able to make coffee and tea in the room
No double beds!! No double beds
The hotel staff were very courteous and went out of their way to make sure all of our needs were met. Our room was much larger than expected, very clean, and very affordable. The location is close to the city center but the area is not nearly as busy / moderately quiet. We will stay at this location next time we visit Reykjavik. It would have been helpful if there was a refrigerator in the room however the staff made accomodations for us get ice to keep our son's milk cold for the evening.
Clean, friendly staff.lovely atmosphere. Nothing
Simple, clean warm and friendly. Wi-fi did not work in the rooms as advertised.
Quiet hotel, staff very knowledgeable about what to see and do in Reykjavik and very helpful. The hotel itself is just a little bit too far from the centre of town but that is not a major complaint.
Rooms were clean and adequate for our needs. The staff was most helpful. I would stay with you again. Our first room assigned to us had an order. There was no problem whatsoever in gettting us changed to another.
warm comfortable room with great shower plus hairdryer. Great idea to have an ironing board and iron available on each floor to use if required. Breakfast was ample. Loads of reading material/leaflets available to help inspire ways of exploring Iceland. Hotel staff very friendly & helpful, lovely place to stay. For the price & location it was just perfect.
Very good location, excellent breakfast, very nice room.
The breakfast was good. No dinner and not so many restaurants nearby.
Very pleasant, helpful staff. Very clean facility. Wonderful breakfasts. A little noisy (busy road outside; sound of guests entering/leaving their rooms).
The Guest house is built to a boutique hotel standard. The location is a bit far from centre of city.
Friendly, helpful owner, clean and pleasant guesthouse and I had interesting conversations with fellow guests.
nicely maintained facilities and a good location walking distance to the bus terminal
Basic accommodations, but the room was comfortable, quiet, and dark at night. The breakfast was excellent.
The staff was super nice. The room was clean, but the most important thing, for me, was the clean showers and toilets, since they were common. [And they were always clean and available, and with a sense of privacy] the breakfast was really good, and it was pretty close to the center. Not in the heart of town, but in a walking distance, and also close to other sites and facilities, such as the bus terminal for the airport and for day trips]. The free internet access really helped a lot, although sometimes reception was not good. In short it was a really good deal. And I would definitely recommend it to anyone, and will probably come back again. One thing I found somewhat disturbing is that I really didn't know how to contact the staff at some points of the day, especially at night. I had to leave really early in the morning, but couldn't find out how to check out. Just left the keys on the bed and left. Usually this would be a good thing, I guess. Because it gives you a sense of privacy and feeling that you are "at home". You don't feel their presence all the time, but you do know they are there. But thinking about emergencies, check outs and some unexpected things, I would have liked to know how and where to contact the staff.
Not having to meet with that dick of an owner. I liked nothing. The owner is an asshole. There was a problem with my flight out of Akureyri the night of my booking, and I was forced to drive into Reykjavik instead of flying. This choice was not mine to make, I had no fault in this action. Rather than understand and take my business the owner told me he could not meet me when i got into the city and said for me to visit him on Monday morning. Only one problem with that plan, I was flying to Germany at 7:30 that morning. When trying to explain my situation, as polite as i could be, he would keep cutting me off and telling me no. He was not accommodating, and it was like he wasn't even listening. I say Fuck hotel Pavi, it's about the worst customer service I have ever had.
the fact that the windows didn't open
Good value in expensive country. Staff was friendly and helpful. Located a few blocks away from the hip area, close enough to walk to but far away enough not to be bothered by late night revelers. Rooms are on upper floors, and hotel lacks elevator. As of summer 2007, there is construction going on across the street, so you will hear rumbling during working hours.
Friendly and good value The tv didn't work and the toilet was not 100% clean
The location was within easy walking distance of the City centre and all sights. The Manager Veronica was always willing to provide assistance with any requests.
Unbelieveably rude staff. I would suggest to avoid this place simply because of the poor customer service.
Enkelt, you get what you pay for. Räcker gott och väl om maninte skall hänga på hotellet utan endast sova där. Lätt att checka in och ut.
Location, very nice staff, price!, Comfort, very good basic breakfast, warm, coziness, bus station with all the connections just 2 mins walk from the guesthouse, anonymity - you can come back whenever you want, no one watches you. No kitchen, but we could manage, I saw some rooms have microwaves and toasters, but we didnt need that much.
Good ambience and environment
The wi-fi connection Poor cleanliness, no chance of having some help in organizing the journey to the airport
Everything was dirty, including the common kitchen, and the front desk gave te let to our room to another guest who ealked right into our room while we were sleeping! They don't care, so don't stay there. The plae doesn't even have a sign to find it.
Despite having been put in the wrong room at the beginning, they made it okay with free breakfast. We arrived earlier than check-in time and were exhausted and they accommodated us, just in a family style room that we had to move out of the following day. Was not really in the center of town. Wish they had had a map on the wall or a brochure that showed where they were in relationship to downtown Reykjavik.
