The duvet. Very comfortable. The breakfast is included and very filling, especially to brave the cold of Rekyavik. The staff did mess up our tour reservation once and we had to ask management time and again for something to be done about it. The desk in the room had some coffee stains and the shower door does not prevent the water from going all over the bathroom! Plus the hotel was definitely a bit distant from city center.
They were very Eco-friendly and "green." Pretty clean and modern. The staff was not very accommodating at all. I reserved a superior room with a double bed, and they gave us 2 twin beds. After speaking with the front desk, all they could tell us was that they are fully booked, and that you're never guaranteed the type of bed you want, but we could push the 2 twin beds together if we'd like. No, thank you. We were only staying there for one night, so we decided not to push the issue. Checkout is at noon, but after reading the hotel info they provide you with in the room, I saw they offer late checkout at 2pm as an option. So, that evening I called the desk to request late checkout, and the woman I spoke with could not give me a yes or no. She said I have to speak with the day staff. I called at 8am the following morning and the woman informed me again that they are fully booked. Ok, but I'm just asking to check out at 2pm. Check in for any new guests is at 4pm. That still gives cleaning crew 2 hours to get the room ready for any new guests arriving. I even tried to compromise and say can we at least stay until 1pm? We were catching the shuttle to the airport at 2pm from the hotel, and didn't have anywhere to go for 2 hours if we checked out at noon. She told me they could hold our luggage and we could go downtown and shop. No, I'm not risking missing the airport shuttle because you told me to go to town and spend $$. So after me asking the same question in 4 different ways, she finally said ok, you can check out at 1pm. Well wow! Thanks a million, Grand Hotel. We won't be staying with you on our next trip to Iceland.
Nice parking lot Room was very warn, sheets did not fit the bed and furniture was dirty. Staff was not friendly. The hotel was not inexpensive and was probably the second worst I have ever stayed in. I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel.
Breakfast Buffet was excellent, lots of nice areas to sit in in lobby and restaurant. Nice staff.
Everything about this stay was fantastic. The rooms were massive by European standards and so were the beds. They were heated nicely and had heated towel racks, lighting and tech was great. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The location was pretty good. The only downside is you aren't right downtown but it's tough to say really what downtown actually is. It's such a big sprawl of a city so it's in Reykjavik but just not the heart I guess, they have a shuttle to make up for this.
Luxury hotel Location was a bit away from the city centre. Taxi cabs are very expensive.
They have all the basics. The hotel may be good for large groups/bus loads of people who need a place far from city center to rest for a night. Politely rude staff: At 1:45 PM and earlier they say "Checkin is at 2 PM". Service Industry speak for Piss Off. 1:58 PM, "Your room is not ready". 2:02 PM, "We don't know if it is ready" (communication problems with housekeeping?) They sometimes seemed annoyed answering questions people had about how to go somewhere in the city or which day excursions are available. "Here's a brochure." is their typical answer. They never tell you the actual details of where to go or what to expect. Rooms were very basic. Tiny pillows on bed. Two cotton comforters on double bed, each was the size of a large towel. Breakfast and Dinner are very over priced.
Easy access, lots of parking, modern building and rooms Great to see Monaco and Cyprus Olympic teams there too,
The hotel was very clean, staff were helpful, our room had a beautiful view of the city and the water, and the room itself was nice. The double bed fit two large adults easily, which was a concern when we were booking. The bathroom also included a tub in addition to the shower. The lobby area was nice with large doors to see out when waiting for tour guides or cabs, and was filled with pamphlets of various activities. Hair dryer/iron & board/mini fridge and laundry service pick up available. The location was a bit further from the city than anticipated, it's listed as a medium walking distance, it is walkable, just not desirable on cold/rainy nights, approximately 20kr cab ride. The dinner buffet was fairly expensive and we didn't really care for it, we preferred the restaurants around the corner or in town and the cost was similar or less, potentially regular ordering tasted better than the buffet. No shampoo/conditioner/lotion, I always bring my own, but wanted to note.
Our stay at the storm hotel was wonderul. The person at the desk even went out of their way to call our tour company when we missed out bus. The tour company sent a small van to just pick us up. So thankful for that desk person!
I really loved the hotel. Its about a 5 min walk either the shopping/bar areas or the water! But the staff was extremely helpful with everything!! They kept the hotel spotless and were great at suggestions for everything we inquired about! I would definitely stay there again!
+ Only 5-10 mins to citycenter. Perfect for a nice walk through the heart of Reykjavik. + Clean and modern + Good complimentary continental breakfast + Happy Hours everyday + Onsite Parking
It was a wonderful and beautiful hotel with attension to detail troughout. We had a lovely and spacious room, very clean and well looked after. The hosts are very helpful for all needed information and help with booking excursions. Beautiful breakfast room with fantastic breakfast buffet and great coffee.
We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Phoenix. The hosts gave us excellent advice about how to make the best of our short time in Iceland - from tour recommendations to dinner reservations.
Service, breakfast and location. Nothing
one of the best hotels I have ever used...spotless...only 9 rooms, only about 100 yds from the bus station..the host was the most helpful and considerate person you will ever meet...the rooms are large and comfortable and along with the bathroom absolutely spotless. I have travelled the world and can honestly say this rates in the top 3...there is an excellent Scandinavian breakfast buffet that is included in the room rate which for Reykjavik Iceland was very reasonable..I would absolutely stay there again...and will recommend this hotel to anyone...if the word cosy appeals to you then you will be happy here..it really is like a high class hotel...loved it!!!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was nice and quiet. Everything was very easy for us.
A very good, small hotel conveniently located just a few minutes walk away from the old town in Reykjavík. The owners are extremely helpful and accommodating and have a good sense of humor. Breakfast is included and it's delicious. My room was nice, spotlessly clean and furnished with taste and the bed was very comfortable. Very clean bathroom with shower. I would definitely stay here again.
ttention to details from proprioters
Fantastic location, great restaurants nearby (especially the Thai place), right next to the excellent main shopping area. Iceland is a very fashion-conscious place, and local design is as cool and alternative as London in my view. Beautifully appointed and stylish rooms, so clean you could eat off the floors, intimate atmosphere with very kind and helpful staff. Very reasonable prices for the quality by Reykjavik standards. Room might have been a touch more spacious, but that is nitpicking. I have travelled a hell of lot for the last 25 years, and I think this place is great.
The owners were very helpful & friendly, very professional. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Hotel Phoenix is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Our host was very accommodating and extremely helpful. Booked our tours and gave us all the best info to get the best out of our trip. We loved it and have plans to return soon for the Northern Lights.
The hotel staff is very kind and helpfull. Nice rooms. The breakfast buffet is good. Rooms are very clean. The water smells... but it does almost everywere in Iceland! The breakfast is served only from 7h30 to 9h30 so don't miss it like we did once! No elevator.
