The location was great with plenty of street parking nearby. We are only a few blocks away from the main church. You can easily walk anywhere n the Reykjavik area. The room was also comfortable and very clean. The Snaps restaurant is also great for a meal.
Very central and for Reykjavik excellently value. Breakfast and locale
Location Working on the room above use for two days. Couldn't. Be in our room during the day to relax. While on vacation till after 18:00..
The friendly front desk staff + the view of city/harbor from the room. No on-site parking. Free parking in nearby lot from 6 p.m to 10:00 am...I had to get up and move the car to an area about four blocks away for the rest of the day...otherwise pay about $ 1. per hour to park.
The front desc staff were absolutely wonderful and most helpful in both the usual ways and also in requests that were less common, Like coming out to help me use the parking meter We liked everything
The location of the hotel is perfect for walking around the shops and grabbing dinner. Our room was really small especially the shower. We both banged our arms on it trying to shower. Not what we are used to.
Great location. Easy waking distance to harbor area. Very nice staff. Very good Breakfast. Restaurant extremely busy every night with locals and tourists so difficult to have dinner without reservation. Very noisy until after midnight every night as patrons exited restaurant/bar and hung around on street below our bedroom. Recommend you request room at back of hotel or bring earplugs
Attractive Scandinavian decor, perfect location, cheerful and knowledgeable 24 hour staff.
Nice room in great location. Simple, elegant hotel. Would definitely stay again.
Location, view from room and very service minded staff.
The front desk staff was amazing. They helped us several time with questions we had We rented one of their apartments for a couple days and it was huge. Wonderful street views and easy walking distance to everything you need. We never ate at their restaurant but we have heard is very good and reasonably priced.
We liked the location near city center and the view out our 3rd floor balcony. The room was spacious and comfortable. The shower was especially welcome after a day of horseback riding and sightseeing. The restaurant in the hotel, Snaps was very accommodating by seating us near closing. They served an excellent meal. On street parking was a little unnerving but turned out fine. It seems that after 6:30pm free parking on the streets is a free-for-all in Reykjavik with anything goes.
Friendly staff, decent location, clean dorms, nice locker for suitcase. Not having bathrooms for both sexes on both sides of the floor. Layout of dorms not great. Bad internet
Just the cutestest hostel ever. Very trendy, clean and comfortable. Spacious rooms, clean bathrooms and showers. Guests were very respectful. Had no trouble sleeping in the evenings. Great bar and sitting area in the reception area to drink and meet other travelers. Food was delicious at the restaurant. Excellent location, located on the main road, central in downtown. Most tours pick up just outside their door steps, as well as local bus stops. Although, it's easy to walk everywhere from there. Absolutely, love it and hope to stay there again one day. No negatives.
Decent price and location Much dirtier in person Kitchen appliances don't work (stoves, ovens, microwaves) so use and need of kitchen is pointless People staying there do not clean their dishes, and cleaning crew doesn't do them either, so there's always a sink full of dirty dishes and no utensils. Advertises soap and shampoo provided yet they give 1 tiny bottle of shampoo that people end up stealing so no soap or shampoo Same with the soap in the bathrooms. No soap. Checked out a day early (almost 30 hours early) yet told that no refund would be given because not given 24 hours notice (?)
laid back fun atmosphere There was nothing I didn't like
This review is about the two floors of the hotel which are a hostel, not a hotel. They lend you a tiny (nearly a joke, I guess) lock to put on the small cubby boxes in the room. 1000ISK deposit. The kitchen contains dishwashers. I stayed in a room with 12 or 14 beds. The doors on these rooms are "underdamped", meaning they are designed or adjusted to slam very very loudly if you let them close by themselves. It shakes not just the room, but is even obnoxious during the day if you're in a common kitchen or lounge down/across the hall. The door in my room was slammed AT ALL HOURS of the day except 12h30 -- 03h00 a.m. by the absurdly inconsiderate guests. The problem is that there is no effort by the hostel to tell people how to behave, and for some reason a large cross-section of the sample of young travellers in my room seem entirely oblivious to the surely-obvious effects of their actions on other people. There were no quiet hours announced. No one was told to close doors quietly. I was dumbfounded how people stayed up shouting, drinking, etc inside the dorm room (there are couches) until midnight, even when others were obviously trying to sleep, and the same people when they were on a different schedule, were up at 03h a.m. sharp talking loudly, and slamming the door countless times again. I mentioned to the staff that there was an educational solution (maybe) to this problem, but they didn't seem very interested. In addition to all that, the rooms, which look nothing nice as clean as in the pictures online (of course), have little cubby boxes below the beds where you supposedly can lock your valuables. The locking tabs are a bit of a joke, maybe, but in my room several were actually broken off anyway, so there was no way to lock them. This was my worst hostel experience ever.
Classy breakfast buffet, wide spaces in the dorm rooms, not too cramped, evening shift front desk worker "Gary the Great" is a not a cool friendly dude, but extremely helpful.
Somehow this isn't mentioned on their website or any reviews I've seen, but Hotel Alda gives each guest an android smartphone in lieu of a room phone. This phone works throughout Iceland, has reception on speed dial, and has all the other bells and whistles you'd expect of s smartphone: maps, activity guides, etc. A great and welcome surprise! Unfortunately for the hotel, but fortunately for Reykjavik generally, there is a bit of construction going on near the facilities. Not a big deal if you're getting up early to go on an adventure, but if you intend to sleep in do ask for a room on the other side of the hotel. This advice should be good through the end of summer 2015.
The hotel was great. From the atmosphere and decorations to the people working there. The front desk staff were amazing and friendly. They were always ready to help and had a smile on there faces everyday. We got a family sized room for two people just because I heard the rooms might be smaller. However the room was bigger than I expected including the bathroom. You hear that the shower doors fold to make more room. However even extended there is enough room for the other person to use the sink or get ready. The hotel gives you a cell phone with data included, which was honestly amazing. I made the phone into a wifi hotspot and was able to use my own cell phone throughout the trip. Just bring portable charger with you as the phone battery dies quickly this way. The hotel is also located on the main strip and perfect walking distance from restaurants and bars. But a few blocks down so you don't hear the noise of the bars at night. We never tried the breakfast downstairs as we always had say trips planned in the mornings. There is a bakery down the street that is open early I can't remember the name of it but the front desk told us about it. Big enough to sit down and have breakfast, but gets packed as well so give yourself enough time if you have morning plans. The room does come with a pot to make your own hot tea and instant coffee if you are in a rush. Hard to say what I did not like about the hotel. The only thing I can think of is that the room gets very warm and with no thermostat to control temperature. We opened the window everyday however it only opens a tiny crack and doesn't stay open on its own. Probably from the wind outside. Just bring light pajamas with you and you will be fine.
Location and view. Smal room, not much storage room.
The young lady receptionist there helped me a lot re the confusion of tour operator about location of picking me up. Really appreciate it.
The art gallery and the food. The entire hotel is like a huge art gallery. The staff is very friendly and the kitchen excellent. I can recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Reykjavik.
hotel de charme .... we really enjoyed our stay there. everything was perfect!!!
Location was easy walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Staff was friendly and helpful. They say that they provide a hot breakfast, but I found that this really meant just buffet style eggs and bacon. Everything else was more of a continental breakfast style.
Very good location. The staf was friendly and the high speed internet connection was highly appreciated. Soundproofing needs to be improved, we could hear people talking in the room next to us, even though they were talking low.
Friendly and helpful staff, good location. Two single beds used as a double, very uncomfortable.
Very good staff, clean and comfortable, splurge restaurant. Arranged several details including transfers and day trips via the staff. Quick walk to old town in both directions - reflecting pool or Hallgrimskirka. Solid. Not cheap, rooms are not large, but that's not their fault.
Helpful staff, good location. Room was quite small
Quiet location, but 10 min walk to everything. Breakfast buffet (hot) included. Absolutely best staff attentive, accommodating, engaging. Houses one of the finer restaurants in the city plus a nice bar downstairs. Tea and coffee and mini bar in the room. Would absolutely stay again. Single rooms on the top floor are drafty because of the balcony doors.
Very noisy from street traffic. This may turn me away from visiting again.
The art. Wi-fi availability. Friendliness of the staff. Warm a touch of traditional and old fashion The rooms were just a little tired but nothing a make-over wouldn't fix. Could hear the traffic a little too much.
Excellent Location, Great Service, Fabulous Restaurant. They even gave us a free upgrade as they were not too fully booked. The staff were very friendly and could help with anything. Certainly a great base from which to enjoy the City of Reykjavik or from which to take any of the multiple day tours on offer (which the staff were helpful and informed of to help organise). I will stay here again next time.
Walking distance to most of towns best sights and restaurants. Felt very safe and the breakfast was great. I would stay here again. Parking was hard to find. That is to be expected when staying in any downtown area. Dining is expensive everywhere in Iceland. For a one in a lifetime place to see. It was still worth it.
Hotel was walking distance to shopping. Had a small kitchen with burners, microwave, refrigerator and dishes. Stayed 4 nights and made dinner 3 of those nights.Going out to eat very expensive Bonus (supermarket) is just 2 blocks away. Staff is extremely helpful. We arrived at 8am and there was a room ready for us. Make sure you get to breakfast on time. Close doors exactly at 9:30 and by 9:15 slim pickings on options. It could be that it is early but staff wasn't that welcoming for breakfast. Just basic offerings - toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, meat, cheese, yogurt. Was fine for us but for those who like a hot breakfast it isn't available They cut fruit in half so for those of you who like to grab and apple for later in the day that isn't an option.
Everything. This place was fantastic. The Staff was helpful, the location can't be beat; you're in the middle of town, on the main street. walking distance to shops and restaurants. Nice size room, fridge - really the best value / location we stayed in Iceland. Good breakfast options compared to other places we stayed. Recommended. Nothing
Tyeblocation, size of the room, value and the included breakfast No way to wash our clothes, no hot tub and only five channels to choose from
Best location for shopping, central to the city. Complimentary breakfast is a great way to start the day--so convenient! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again! Although I didn't experience any noise (staying early in the week), I could foresee noise issues near the weekend and in the summer.
Nice, clean, spacious rooms
We booked a double room and it was really more like a one bedroom. Had a stove and separate seating area, was clean and we had no problems with noise!
The rooms and location were excellent. The breakfast was included but not that impressive.
Very clean and modern. I didn't realize it had a kitchen included. Perfect location, quiet but on a nice street right in the middle of everything. Good Buffett breakfast. Good security. Good heating.
good staff, great location, nice appointrments, lovely atmosphere doors were tough to open and slammed shut, which can wake you in the small hours
The staff were really helpful, very clean room and bar
Excellent location, great harbour view, very clean room and the bed was huge! Didn't try the restaurant but the bar service was good and the bar area was very nice and relaxing. Staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Bed, showers, furniture No drawers, no dress closets
Atmosphere, people - nothing too much trouble, central location - overall great Disappointed that the suana wasnt working for all 3 days - one of the reasons I chose this hotel
good value and really close to everything you want to see the shower on the ground floor was borderline to hot.
location was wonderful, and easy to explane when you are lost because there was a pizza restaurant near by. Also, it was one block away from the famous church. Breakfast was wonderful. couldn't stop eating the bread they provided. it maybe difficult to use the restroom, since the building i stayed was a modified house, which had only one bathroom( just one) on the floor with three bed room.
Nice, quiet residential street. Short walk to shopping area & tourist sights. Having a kitchen (with coffee pot, kettle, dishes, utensils, cooking pots, etc.) in our room was great, since eating out was so expensive. There were 9 of us in three apartments. All of our rooms had different lay-outs, and one of them had a large living room where we could all gather comfortably (Apt. 2) Very friendly, helpful innkeepers, also!
No fuss, just go and enjoy. Loved being able to cook a bit since eating out is crazy expensive. Parking spots are difficult sometimes. The water smelled of sulfur.
Location and kindness of the staff The hotel do not have any comfortable space to spend free time during the day, as hall, cofee bar, etc,....
Breakfast & Breakfast room was great A bit noisy - general guset exhuberance etc and sound did get through the walls
Straight forward transaction. Very convenient location. Always had someone at the front desk. Breakfast was good.
We had 1/2 price, which made it a good price/quality-hotel. Good breakfirst, good bed, good location.
Staff was kindly, coffee and tee were availeable all day To sleep is hard because the street was really very noisy
Central location. Good value for money. Bathrooms had no heating. Bath towels were small. Close by bar very noisy on Saturday night.
liked the tea and coffee in the sun room
location is nice, internet connection is present, staff is welcoming room was really small, breakfast quite poor and very noisy during the weekend nights
Nice hotel in the centre of Reykjavik. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Perfect place to use as a basis to tour the SW part of Iceland.
Good location, nice building. Difficult to get into hotel after-hours, must rely on frequently-absentee front desk employee to manually let in.
You messed up on my reservation as I did book it through the airline website, so the airline should have communicated to you that my flight left nyc on th, but wouldn't land until fri, so I didn't need th pm accomodations. in any case, I bear some responsibility for this for not picking this up myself. however, when I checked into the hotel fri, they not only wouldn't give us any $ back, but refused to even upgrade our rooms to compensate us for taking our $ for 2 rooms we didn't use on th pm. I pointed out that they were not close to full capacity, so they did not actually lose any revenue by holding our rooms for th pm, they just got revenue they didn't deserve, as no services were rendered. they wouldn't even give us free bar vouchers. See above. I think you should tell them that they should have done something, ie anything to make things better, as a room upgrade when they are at 50% capacity costs them $0, and doing nothing, ie absolutely 0 when I asked them to do anything other than 0 to make us feel better and be ok w their keeping 100% of our revenue for th pm, is not cool. I also think you should refund us part of our $ if you can't get them to, but this would be up to your sense of fairness and professionalism, I guess. really, if you can get them to put $50 back on my credit card, and you do the same so I get $100 back, so I then eat $100+ instead of $200+, I would be more than happy and then post a + rather than - review on the internet about you and them!:)
Central location and well-sized room and bathtub for european standards.
