The new receptionist was welcoming. The view from bedroom windows of Wilton Castle and River Wye were lovely. The pretty town centre of Ross on Wye was within walking distance. Several small details contributed to an air of lack of care for something that was advertised as 4 star with a "superior" bedroom. A little disappointing.
Excellent Food. The Hotel has obviously seen better days and is in a state of decline. Advertises 4 Poster Beds but there were no Canopies, not quite the real thing
We arrived too late to really benefit but I would certainly go again. We arrived at 11.00 p.m. I was travelling with a business colleague and we would have valued a drink or coffee in a public room before going to bed but everything was closed - perhaps an insulated coffee pot and tray could have been left in the breakfast room for us .
The food and the location Response from receptionist when I requested the room I had booked, as opposed to the room I had been given; She pointed out I had not paid very much! I did however get another room. The lack of privacy in the bathroom - I do think that bathroom windows should be covered with something, a gap of 4/5 inches below a venetian blind is not appropriate on clear glass, particularly when the room in question is at the front of the hotel on the main road.
very good location very uncomfortable hard mattress, noise of passing traffic. found it unacceptable to be asked if we wanted a tip to be included in our hotel bill when our card transaction was processed. twin "superior" room it certainly was not. it had a double bed, not twin beds & certainly was not "superior"
Little "extras" from the chef! They gave us fruit, biscuits, milk etc after we had gone out to fetch our own! If they had told us to expect it we would have been fully satisfied.
The room was nice and the location good - restaurant excellent but a bit pricey There was an awful lot of traffic noise
Food and wine were excellent
The hotel is in a pleasant riverside location with a lovely view of Ross-on-Wye. We found the staff very friendly and the breakfast, for which there was an extensive choice, was superb. We would have liked to eat in and have no doubt that the evening meals are excellent but they are quite expensive. Because we were both feeling 'under the weather' with very heavy colds we chose not to eat there.
Excellent food and wines
