10.0 Excellent
Pros: host was fantastic
7.1 Good
Pros: Makiko - the owner of the place was just wonderful. We had a great time sitting with her on the balcony listening to her stories. Her English was superb. She was very helpful with dinner and taxi reservation. The place is located just great on the Shimanami trail.
Cons: The house is a bit run down. It looked in the midst of renovations. Unless you're really a fanatic about cleanliness I highly recommend.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous stay. Makiko was so lovely and a wonderful host. Highly recommend Ogata house.
Cons: Had a bit of trouble finding it as both google maps and maps.me take you to the wrong street, it’s one over.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hostess went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We biked from Onomichi to her home, and needless to say were pretty tired and hungry. She kindly made us reservations down the road. Breakfast on the patio was an experience. Very peaceful and the food was amazing. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property definitely has a Japanese feel and Makiko really makes you feel welcome. She cooked an amazing breakfast the next morning and really enjoyed our stay. Will definitely come back again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best host you could possibly have. Beautiful house, kept extremely well. If you’re planning on cycling the Onomichi cycle path this place is the perfect spot to stop off at before Imabari.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Host was very welcoming and helpful, in email communication prior to our stay. Beautiful house. We enjoyed our stay on this lovely island.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hostess was gracious, incredibly helpful on recommendations, a great cook and has a beautiful house! We were greeted with tea and snacks, had a swim in the ocean, a five minute walk away, had a delicious breakfast and stay in Japanese style luxury! Would recommend highly.
Cons: All was great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious. The view was over the water and just lovely.

Pros: Excellent guesthouse, great option for cyclists. Nice coffee too!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is so nice and shared a lot of cycling information. The place is cozy and warm, and I feel so welcomed. Will definitely recommend this hostel to the travellers who is going to the Shimanami Kaido!
Cons: /
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great and the staff was really kind. Their welcoming drink was also amazing. I will definitely choose this place again for my next trip to Imabari area.
Cons: I hope they have a small plate in entrance or box in their garage to put pilgrimage’s stick because the stick for pilgrimage is like a bicycle for cyclist.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great stuff, nice, helpful and informative.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location right near the centre of town. They had a map of the area with nearby attractions and restaurants ready. The capsules are really roomy and their amenities were very clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome guesthouse. They give you a homemade lemon-orange drink when checking in, and the staff is very friendly and explain everything you need to know. The guesthouse is very sociable with a small kitchen/livingroom and you can order drinks if you want. I stayed in a capsule-like room which was what you expect from a capsule room - a bit small but does the job.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service, the staff was friendly and let me store my bike in the garage. The room was comfortable and clean. Would stay here again!
Cons: Nothing

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: size of room, decor
Cons: no water in the room, and limited tea making facilities
6.7 Good
Pros: It was a very spacious room. The reception desk was open 24/7 which was great for when I needed to check out at 5am
Cons: The onsen seemed a little expensive. I had assumed it was included in the price so having to pay over ¥1,000 more felt a bit much. It wasn’t very clear where to park my bike.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: everything was great. for the relatively low price i thought the hotel would be average, little did i know it would be akin to a 4 star hotel. there hotel has several restaurants (albeit overpriced), a sento (which i HIGHLY recommend), a pool and gym (for an additional cost, the sento is pretty cheap). breakfast was lovely, with lots of food to choose from the buffet. i would definitely recommend this hotel for a pre shimanami kaido rest if you would like to relax and have space to stretch in the morning, waking up fresh!
Cons: the restaurants were expensive, however this seems like a hotel for the upperclass. i felt a little out of place with my sweatpants and flipflops wandering the lobby. however i didnt feel judged and the staff were very friendly and helpful!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very luxurious. The rooms are huge, perhaps the largest I have stayed in Japan. Almost like a big american hotel room. The hot springs are very good and large. The breakfast buffet is extensive and tasty. The staff of course is very polite and competent, like typically in Japan. I didn't have a problem communicating in English.
Cons: Even though it is a 20+ floor hotel, my room was in the Annex, which is much shorter. I was hoping for a room with a good view, but I ended-up with a view half the parking lot and the other half a wall.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from our room and the sky-bar was very good, particularly at sunset. Breakfast was excellent. The bento-box trays were an ideal way to try lots of Japanese food. The Onsen facilities were very good. There was also an amazing garden with water features outside the restaurant area.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We just booked because we wanted a place to relax after the bike ride. It was if we ended up in a Trump hotel, everything big and gold. The staff was nice en our backs where already in our room. The view was nice over the castle and the Seto Naikia.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After cycling through the Shimanami Kaido from Onomichi all day long, it was such a delight to stay at this luxurious hotel, which is actually the tallest building in the city! Our room was located on the 17th floor so the view on the sea was gorgeous. Our bed was huge and truly comfortable. Everything was perfect, I recommend anyone to stay at this place in Imabari!
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Rooms should have a safety locker

8.1 Excellent (107 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Komecho Ryokan in Imabari, you'll be a 1-minute walk from Setonaikai National Park and 8 minutes by foot from Imabari Castle. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Really nice people running the ryokan. It felt more like I was a guest at someone's house rather than staying at a hotel. I booked it last minuet, and had to get an early start, so I didn't get to talk the the people much, nor did I get to partake in breakfast. But I did drink the complementary sencha, make use of the sento, and wear my yukata. Komecho Ryokan has a lived-in, rustic charm that enhanced my immersion of being in Japan. The room was spacious, especially for the price. And it was located close to the bus and train station. Oh, and I got to pick out my own washcloth/towel that was mine to keep!
Cons: The toilets were a little cramped, but I'm also a tall guy with broad shoulders. Also, a hook inside for hanging my yukata would have been appreciated.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very helpful and friendly. Everything is provided like bath towels, robes, disposable toothbrush, soaps. It was a last minute booking so I was glad to get a room.
Cons: I would have liked a thicker mattress but it was comfortable nonetheless
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Though the building is old, it was well-cleaned. The room we had for two people was very spacious. The hosts were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The bathrooms seemed to need a little updating.
7.1 Good
Pros: Breakfast. Location, right at the port. Nice staff. Big room.
Cons: It was a last minute booking. Dirty and old shared bathroom. It could have been a nice homestay traditional ryokan but its really outdated and the owners dont invest at all to renew it.
7.5 Good
Pros: Simple accommodation at a reasonable price.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: In front of the sea
Cons: Staff doesn’t speak English
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice tea set in the rooms. Got a present from the landlady :)
6.7 Good
Pros: Good location with old facilities.
Cons: Old house make easy to hear noises from other rooms and floors.
7.5 Good
Pros: Service, staff, and food were excellent. Value for money was amazing in those regards.
Cons: The property made a mistake and our room was not available when we checked in. We waited in a dining room on the main floor for about two hours. The beds were not very comfortable.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: A big room for a Japanese hotel. Very quiet though within 100m of train station. Staff kept our bags as we arrived early and they recommended a great restaurant close by. We stayed in Saijo rather than Nihama because this hotel looked much better than any in Nihama and its only 10min by train. Japanese buffet breakfast very good and included.
Cons: Nothing - all good.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Handy location with friendly staff. The inclusion of breakfast was very nice. We loved the hot baths too!

Room was clean with a great view towards the mountains. Fantastic location just opposite station. Convenience store around the corner. Great laundry facilities.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very clean and central, perfect for starting a hike to Mt Ishizuchi. The bus stop is in front of the hotel. Our room was very clean, with wifi, but small. Breakfast reasonably-priced, but not great.
Cons: Room was small.

Guests may borrow conveniences such as hair dryers and irons at no additional charge (please inquire at the front desk for details). The hotel possesses 12 guest rooms.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The building is charming and you can really feel that it used to be a top-of-the-line hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and we felt heartfeltly welcome. The traditional tatami room was spacious and pleasant. We got to choose whether we wanted a bed or tatami.
Cons: The ryokan is quite old, and unfortunately it shows. The rooms were perfectly clean, but the hallways and bathrooms were showing their age, with dust and a few spiderwebs in corners. There are only squat toilets, which may be a problem for some people. The staff did not speak English, so I recommend having a translator app or phrase list if you don't speak any Japanese.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was close to the bike route that is why its very ideal place to stay when you do the shimanami cycling course
Cons: No vendo machine
7.5 Good
Pros: Not far from the bike path
Cons: Very dated and strong smell of fish
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very well set up for cyclers
6.7 Good
Pros: The location is excellent with pleasant views. The rooms were spacious and the Japanese-style bath very relaxing after a long day.
Cons: The facility is old and, as such, a bit dingy. There was a slight but pervasive odor, but overall it was as clean as you can expect from an older building. Not necessarily a negative, but it might be worth mentioning that the toilets are Japanese style (squat toilets).
4.2 Okay
Pros: The location is convenient and close to the sea.
Cons: Arrived by bike at 17h50, the host asked us to pay at the moment we get through the door. She refused to give us a diner, but others customers were having diner in living room. Even if we speak a little bit of Japanese, the host did not do any effort to make herself understandable, spoke very fast in Japanese only, not a word in English. Strong fish odor in entry.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Staff were very welcoming.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location close to the bridge and the prices. They have a little japanese bath tub so relaxing
Cons: Simple rooms with nothing extra...just your bed a tv and that's it

Cons: Limited English speaking staffs
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect for our exploration of Niihama and visiting our son. The area was quiet and rooms comfortable. Eating area is basic but provided everything we needed. Breakfast items were constantly being refreshed as items were used. Bigger than average room for Japan.
Cons: Nothing really to complain about. It was interesting trying to communicate with the staff as English wasn't fluent but we got there with the help of our son and sign language.
7.5 Good
Pros: Free parking and helpful staff
9.2 Excellent

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Organic Guesthouse & Cafe OHANA in Imabari, you'll be just steps from Setonaikai National Park and Shimanami Kaido Expressway. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
6.7 Good
Pros: Staff was very flexible and helpful. Location was close to many restaurants.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed there because of cycling. The washing machine and clothes dryer are perfect. They completely dries our clothes. It is next to the shrine we want to visit and there are a few restaurants nearby. Good stay for people like us.
Cons: The cycling path from Tatara Bridge to the guesthouse is really exhausting. But I guess it is because we are physically not that good.
7.1 Good
Pros: Quirky design Zen feature and great ride towards the place
Cons: Mattress was a touch hard
5.4 Okay
Pros: The room was a good size dormitory for our 5 persons family and the owner added a futon so that we stayed all together.
Cons: Breakfast was very light, especially for a family on bike tour. No soap or towels provided. Quite expensive for the service.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The host and hostess were friendly. The location wasn't bad. We only stayed there as a halfway rest point for the cycling route (shimanami kaido), and there's a grocery store across the street/convenience store down the street.
Cons: Seemed like amenities were lacking for the price we had to pay. No towels provided, and although they had two showers, only one of them had shampoo and body wash. You could do laundry for 200 yen a load. The room was a bit dusty and had bugs. The bed sheets didn't seem fresh.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Pretty good location if you bike the islands but a little bit far from the bike path. By far the most expensive hostel ive been to in japan, and its not at all that high standard or comfort. Pretty old and dark but clean. I stayed becouse I started late on my way to Imabari and did not have another choice. Close to onsen .
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Hostel Ohana has a nice esoteric atmosphere with an impressive collection of fixtures and furniture in the common area. We visited in off season so there weren’t too many guests but I could easily imagine the busy and friendly vibes of the place in peak times. There were yoga mattresses available for guests. The owner/host was very welcoming and respectful. The location is actually not that remote, there is a convenient store in walking distance and you can also find a restaurant in the village, last order is at ~7pm (in June/July).
Cons: The breakfast - 2 thin toasts with olive oil and some greens for 590yen. There are a couple of cafes and also a convenient store nearby for better deals.
