The bedroom and furnishing were exceptional.
Nothing
The room smells like mold. I stated 5 hours and left. Booked a hotel next door. Worst experience ever.
Most comfortable bed I've had at a hotel
The historic hotel was clean and the staff was courteous. Rooms were a fair size and had all the amenities that I would want in a luxury hotel. The lobby was comfortable for getting caught up on email (and had a great cup of coffee in the morning). As mentioned in the title, I have never had such a comfortable bed and wish I could take it home with me.
The hotel cannot control this, but the area is filled with homeless and panhandlers that made it uncomfortable to walk to the Gaslamp district or Midway museum (it's worse on 4th Street). Next time we will likely stay close to the waterfront where the problem seems to be lessened.
Great Hotel in a screwed up downtown
Good, comfortable bed; historic setting; very good food in their grill: their sea bass w/ artichokes, arugula pesto and spinach cavalcati was incredible. Geat Caesar salad at lunch; good bar service; excellent Bloody Mary! Nice housekeeping staff. Helpful concierge gave me good info about getting to the San Diego Zoo.
Snooty front desk clerk: I was staying 2 nights on SPG points, an SPG Gold member. Took advantage of early check in and 4pm checkout - that was great. Front desk clerk says: "Sorry can't upgrade you at checkin." And I say, if I didn't check in until after my day's activities after 6pm, could I get an upgrade?" response: "No". So why did you even say that sh*t in the first place? Total droid. Also, downtown San Diego is a dreary place indeed. Homelessness abounds. And while there are nice restaurants within a mile, this particular stretch of Broadway isn't much...
Very classy
Enjoyed our stay with our 5 yr old. Very courteous staff, local amenities, and close Seaport Village and other site seeing entertainment. Now a favorite, will definitely stay again in the near future.
Uncomfortable
Location
Beds were terrible and room was small
Cool vibe. Great room and decor. Easy check in.
Luxury at its finest.
The hotel is a historic landmark located near the Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego. The location is great for shopping, site seeing, and night life. The staff of the hotel was superb! A fantastic back drop for a romantic getaway.
Lovely, historic luxury hotel
Elegant and plush surroundings, very comfortable bed, room was lovely with great amenities even though I had a single room. Great power breakfast meal!
Fantastic hotel with history...
The room was great and service was excellent.
Very noisy on the 4th floor exterior room all night long on a weekend.. I requested a room with a view and got a view of the rundown buildingf to peo next to us and listene.
It was a wonderful expeeience from the moment we walk in to the time we left. It's a beautiful hotel with a wonderful staff.
The Spa Suite was a little plain in appearance for a luxury hotel but the therapist was excellent.
The staff was friendly and courteous. The entire stay was pleasant and we were well taken care of as guests.
The service from all the staff rates as one of the best we have ever experienced. The quality of the rooms and the common areas was exceptional. Value for money!
The bar lighting was far too dark. Lack of shelf space in the bathroom.
everything was perfect
The front desk staff was very professional and kind, his name is davis... I admired his way of handling my small prob with the online booking, it seems that his recodes show no reservation for me, looks like Booking.com did not update the server promptly, yet he was very polite and escorted me to the comfort sofa at lobby, made the necessary correspondences with booking.com, and solve everything in less than five minutes. They were very fixable with late checkout.
Valet parking fee is high.
The centralized location to restaurants, shopping and the seaport was perfect. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Not the hotel's fault, last night there some very rowdy guests were up and down the hall in the wee hours of the morning. Again, not the hotel's fault. And we did not call the desk to report it.
The staff were really helpful, we had to call down to get a few items we have forgotten sent to us and they were really prompt in helping us. Everyone was extremely friendly and willing to help especially the concierge Lee Ann, she was very good and gave us extensive tips and advice about San Diego and places we can go including transport details. On the day of our depature, we had to get up early for our early flight, and a bill was put under the door for us. Saying that if it was correct (i.e. we didn't use the minibar so we didn't have to pay any extra) then we did not have to stop at the front desk to check out, which was rather efficient and saved us some time.
Our room didn't have a view. It unfortunately looks into other rooms from the other side of the hotel block. We didn't bother asking for an upgrade or change the room as we were out exploring all the time anyway.
The service.....absolutley amazing!!!
no swimming pool, no sunday brunch offered, gift shop did not offer typical snacks/drinks, no vending machines on any floors.
The ambiance, the service
The rooms we stayed overlooked a busy street--it was a bit noisy into the early morning hours. Sound proof windows would be nice. Same thing with garbage trucks first thing Saturday morning--that is what we awakened to.
The room was beautiful!
beautiful hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff
