Pros: Customer service. Manager who spoke English was incredibly helpful and accommodating. All staff was nice but she went over and beyond to make sure my stay was enjoyable...including making sure a taxi was available, which definitely wasn't always the case.
Staff promptly brought anything I needed to the door (e.g. Shaver, shower cap).
Staff was friendly and if someone didn't know English, they did their best to find someone who did speak English (or at least understood more than he/she did).
Cons: Taxis were VERY difficult to obtain, even if I reserved one or requested that the front desk have one ready. I waited for 10-15 minutes for a car, which was a huge inconvenience when trying to get to a conference.
Pros: Super clean, perfect location.
Cons: Bed was too firm, but that is normal in Japan. Some reception staff didn't speak English.
Pros: Extremely clean, great wifi
Cons: Bed was too firm, but that is normal in Japan. Staff could speak better English; only one attendant was fluent and the others were very difficult to communicate with, although they were all exceptionally friendly and accommodating.

For a bite to eat, guests can check out La page, one of 2 restaurants, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Pros: The place is in the middle of the restaurant / bar area in downtown Kobe. Great location, very close to the train station as well. The hotel has a Spanish vibe to it.
Cons: All these Japanese hotels are small, even when you know this up front, it's still small.
Hotel Monterey Kobe offers a glimpse into the architecture and atmosphere of medieval-era Italy. The 3-star hotel recreates the Romanesque character of a Northern Italian castle through its use of flagstones and arched colonnades. We invite you to rest in the comfortable sofas in the lobby area to cure your initial travel weariness. Then take a stroll through the courtyard where you can wander through the colonnades to the sound of flowing water from the fountains, helping to calm your spirit and evoke sentimental feelings of nostalgia
Fushioukaku is a great choice for a stay in Ikeda. You can grab a bite to eat at the restaurant and visit the spa to be pampered with deep-tissue massages, body scrubs, or aromatherapy. An outdoor pool, a seasonal outdoor pool, and a children's pool are other highlights.
Cons: We were given a smoking room and would have preferred a non-smoking room. When we asked the receptionist for a non-smoking room, she shared with us that there where no non-smoking rooms available and gave us an air freshener. The room smelled very strongly of smoke and it was very hard to enjoy the space.
Pros: Impeccably clean, neat and well kept; excellent location; and great value for the money! Free laundry facilities and coffee were very useful too. One of those hotels that it is easy to "stay in," rather than venture out at night - it's that comfortable.
Cons: Like anywhere in Japan, rooms are not large, and the check-in time of 3:00 p.m. is enforced. If you stroll in earlier, expect to wait. But the Gals at the front desk are polite, and porting your bags is not a problem.
