10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fantastic stay we have had by Virginie, from the very first till the very last minute we was like we have found a second home for us. Highly recommended!
Cons: Nothing at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazingly good breakfast, likely the best of our entire trip. Homemade jellies, pastries, and breads. Delicious chocolate croissants. Beautifully remodeled centuries old farmhouse with big open rooms set in a very small farming community that is very photographic with classic rural scenery. Relaxing, quiet place that gave us a chance to unwind after traveling to Paris, Marseilles, and Milan. Our hosts were very nice though they spoke limited English and we spoke very little French. Still, we learned quite a bit about this awesome B&B, remodeled by Virginia's husband who has his own successful home remodeling and construction company. They were very accommodating despite our late arrival partially due to GPS issues caused by Booking, com not properly identifying their small town location as Brecy. They allowed us to stay after breakfast to take photos and hang out with their really cool goats, a mother and son duo complete with their own tree house. This family friendly B&B is perfect for families especially those with young kids offering places throughout the inn for art and play. We simply loved this place! We hope to return someday with our kids, maybe even our future grandchildren.
Cons: Just Booking.com not better identifying their small town for getting directions from our rental car's GPS. Chez Virgine and the family that owns it were fantastic, we really loved this place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Thank you Virginie.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome and very friendly host. Spotlessly clean.
Cons: Nothing, but if I had to be picky the pillows are a little tired.
10.0 Excellent

9.5 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed staying at Chez Virginie! Lovely and comfortable rooms. We visited during a heat wave and, even though there was no air conditioning, there was a fan in our room and we were quite comfortable.
Cons: The breakfast could have been a bit better. Very basic: some slices of cheese, a few slices of melon. Boxed (sugary) cereal. Would have preferred scrambled eggs or omelettes and granola.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved the space - it's rare to find a 2-room apartment sleeping 5 in a small gîte. The boys loved the outside, lots of room for kicking a football around. And all 3 kids loved the 2 goats.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: very kind and warm people, very clean and nice, quiet location, great breakfast, lovely coffee, close to the highway, ideal for a brake between the South of France and the North.
10.0 Excellent

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel is authentic rural France. Don't expect a Hilton but the staff were so friendly, accommodating and made our stay fab.
Cons: A bit out the way and the town hall clock lets you know the time.....all night.
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was adequate. Hotel chosen for the location within the area. Room was very clean and reasonably appointed and represented good value.
Cons: We arrived at 14.40 and the hotel was closed and no one in sight. We were told by a neighbouring shop that the hotel would be open at 15.00. We waited until 15.15 and still no one at the hotel. We phoned the hotel from the shop and got a recording. I left a message that we were at the hotel and wanted to check in. We stumbled upon Serge in the street by the hotel. He was about to ride away on his bicycle. We said we wanted to check in and get to our room. He told us to come back at 1800. We were stunned. If the room was not prepaid for the whole stay, we would have looked for another hotel. We were not pleased.

Cons: Nothing, everything was absolutely perfect.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful property. The location and drive to Chablis is stunning through back roads
Cons: Said it had a wellness center, sound proof rooms and presumably a hot jacuzzi... but didn’t. Staff did everything to help though.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous chateau complete with moat dating from the 12th century, set amongst quaint villages and countryside. It was a real pleasure and privilege to stay here. The gardens are beautifully kept and there is a feel of how the various owners over the centuries would have lived. The staff were enthusiastic and attentive.
Cons: Meals and drinks are a little costly but acceptably so considering the offerings the chateau has.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good, as was dinner. Our room was comfortable and large with a good sized bathroom. The staff were helpful and friendly. The location of the hotel is lovely as are the grounds.
Cons: A small 'niggle' is that in our room there wasn't an electric socket close to a mirror. This often happens in hotels and is very annoying for women wishing to use straighteners or other electric devices to style hair etc!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Character, Charm , great welcome , professional staff .Peaceful location.
Cons: Nothing very much ...but perhaps our bedroom was a touch tired....pink bathroom a little bit dated .

Pros: Great coffee, great bread, juice, plentiful continental breakfast. The host is a visual artist, original sculptures and other fascinating works on display. We had the entire second floor, including a separate meditation room, everything was so artistically done, immaculate and spacious. 9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quite room not available but we were advised beforehand. Decided to eat in restaurant and the food and the service were both excellent. Information on booking.com website re restaurant opening times were incorrect.
Cons: No facilities to make a cup of tea or coffee. Early morning traffic noise. Problem with making credit payment due to issues with hotel connection confirmed by MasterCard!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and efficiently run, Claire ensured a very personal feel and showed an interest in our wellbeing. The hotel was very clean. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Well situated in a lovely area.
Cons: The bedroom was quite small and the hot water took a time to come through - I suspect our room was at the end of the line.

Pros: Great breakfast plenty of choice and to eat. Great coffee.
Cons: All great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely garden and food. Staff were friendly
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel and the restaurant are well managed. The tartare de daurade was a bit sour, the lamb sligthtly overdone, but the terrace was delightful and in good taste, the service impeccable, the cheeses from the region not only interesting but good to eat and the Marc de Bourgogne powerful and delicious. This a highly profeesional outfit, to which I accord the epithet 'most agreeable'.
Cons: The shower in the bath could only be entered and left at some risk to life and limb.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The scenic location;the good bed and shower; the tranquillity and the excellent breakfast.
Cons: The evening meal is just acceptable: no meaningful choice and no attempt to make interesting what is presented.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The quiet location in woody area next to river
Cons: Small rooms. “Dinner” at night is overpriced for just a salad with cold cuts. I do not recommend eating there apart from breakfast
9.5 Excellent
Pros: - location & view. - friendly, proactive, expert staff - high quality in room amenities. - proximity - croissant was Good!
Cons: - wifi is unsecured, and weak in some areas - room air ventilation not good, need mesh screen on the windows to be able to open them without inviting bugs from the forest.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place! Kind staff, very beautiful surroundings! The room is comfortable, bathroom big, we loved the space outside on the river ! Hope to come back!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location, staff, breakfast

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location, excellent outdoor dining, good room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Localization, breakfast, bathroom
Cons: Acoustic
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Evening meal was not particularly good, a cold dimmer with little choice, and not much choice of wine/drink. We thought that for the cost of two nights it was expensive. The staff were very good and the location was excellent.
Cons: The hotel needs to think about it's evening meal and give more choice as there was only a charcuterie, fish or vegetarian choice of the same thing for dinner, so we ate elsewhere on the second night.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful! And the staff very friendly. The room and the bathroom was very clean. Very peaceful place!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully renovated old mill right by the stream. Sensitive modernisation. We had a lovely large room with a humongous shower (While we didn’t need it that room is fully wheelchair accessible. Rustic and delicious country style dinner and a fantastic breakfast with lots of fruit, cold cuts and cheese as well as cereal and of course French breads and croissants.
Cons: Not so much a question of not liking anything than pointing out where a small change might make a big difference. Tea kettle is provided in the room as is a small number of teabags etc. However, the cups are too tiny to use for tea and so are even the two paper water cups from the bathroom. It would be easy to put a couple of the nice mugs provided for breakfast in the rooms.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great coffee in the morning and very friendly owners.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very central with pubs / restaurants a 2 minute walk. Very nice lady with decent English running the place. Comfy & clean. Off street, free, parking in a locked courtyard
Cons: My room had no window & the bathroom window opened into a stairwell with a glass roof so very warm in sunny weather. Probably why the room had 3 fans !
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is the second time we have stayed here and we love it. The owner is super friendly, allowed us to choose our preferred room and explained everything about our stay. Free parking in the square opposite the hotel was great. If you have a motorbike there is a locked yard. We chose a room at the front looking out on the square, and the double glazing was excellent to stop any noise. Breakfast was juice, tea / coffee, fresh bread and amazing homemade jams. Simple but tasty.
Cons: The rooms are a little basic, but this is not a problem.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed comfy, water hot, breakfast delicious and convenient to A6 .
Cons: It was all great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location. Comfortable and spotlessly clean room. Lovely dinner. What made our stay so special was the service - more what you would expect from a small family-owned hotel than a chain. We had asked for a ground floor room near reception because I have bad knees and we were immediately allocated the very nearest room. When we arrived the chef was picking fresh herbs from his small vegetable plot in front of the hotel. Well done all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed in Avalon previously, and knew that this hotel is very handy for an overnight stop when travelling south. Clean, comfortable and excellent air conditioning, essential in heatwave. Good value with breakfast included.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The location is lovely, very pastoral, and the very good breakfast seems to be carefully planned.
Cons: The single beds were comfortable but awkward because the mattress layer added on top does not seem to be anchored to the rest, therefore slides to one side or the other leaving an awkward and slightly unstable slant. Have found this in at least one other Ibis.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable bed. Very quiet room. Close to motorway. Free parking. Very hard-working staff. Delicious croissants!
Cons: Would have been nice to have air-conditioning.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Walls are too thin, and not in any way soundproof.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very near the motorway, yet very quiet. Beautiful nature with the Morvan park very near. Lakes and forests to hike in. Very clean and very comfortable. It was a great find.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location is rural but only a few minutes from Avallon. Its quiet and homely ... restaurant was good value. We enjoyed our stay. It was a welcome break point heading back to the airport in Paris from Lyon area. Staff were friendly .. rooms smallish but very comfortable.
Cons: Not being able to make a cup of tea in our room ... a small jug etc would have been very welcome.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect hotel for overnight stop on long journey.
Cons: Convenient location with free parking and easy access. Restaurant open 7 days. Great breakfast. Very competitive prices.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient and yet very pleasant rural location. Evening meal good - breakfasts very good. Staff generally helpful.
Cons: Having to ask three times for a carafe of water with our evening meal was a little frustrating .

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff
Cons: More croissants at breakfast!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room clean and fairly spacious with very large, comfortable bed. Air con effective. TV had BBC news channel. An excellent shower in the bathroom. Nice pool and terrace area. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Cons: Rooms not very soundproof. The first night was ok but the second night we had noisy neighbours. A kettle would be nice in the room.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds and clean bathrooms made for a good night’s sleep at this hotel. The breakfast, although fairly expensive, was good. Once we were able to find the hotel (GPS problems), it became apparent it is located in an interesting area- especially if you have a car.
Cons: There was an odd, strong, “perfumey” odor that permeated everything in the room. The next morning we realized there was one of those sensor-activated room deodorizing spray machines mounted on the wall in the bathroom in front of the toilet. No... no, no, no, no.... people, listen: those things are fine for truck stop bathrooms, not small hotel spaces. I’m not particularly sensitive to perfume, but that stuff was much too strong and completely unnecessary. Also, at reception, the woman who checked us in seemed obsessed about making sure we knew about the 10PM “curfew” and the code to get in. Pros: Very friendly staff, excellent on site restaurant, made room for our motorcycles in the garage, the house dog
Cons: Rooms in the main building a little basic but perfect for 3 travelling motorcycle riders
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful and room was very clean. The hotel certainly offered good value. We only stayed one night as we were just passing through.
Cons: The breakfast was a bit pricey 10 euros for what you get but otherwise the hotel was great value. The shower was a bit awkward in the twin room.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Cosy restaurant with good food. Air conditioning system worked very well which was a relief during the heat wave. Easy parking.
Cons: The shower and bathroom had a slight smell.
7.5 Good
Pros: Handy location. Nice terrace. Lovely staff and good restaurant.
Cons: The showers are a little strange in design - tends to flood the bathroom.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We didn't have the breakfast but the evening meal was very good and the restaurant was very popular. I would recommend booking when you arrive or going in early. The historic part of Avallon is very attractive and within easy walking distance. There is on site parking which is very useful. Our room was large and overlooked the garden but see comment below.
Cons: Our room overlooked the garden but was very close to the kitchen and there was a noisy cooling unit that ran all night and didn't help either of us get to sleep. Select a room away from the kitchen would be my advice.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Real classy
Cons: Owner was not really friendly to her staff.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and fresh room, with a small balcony. Good air conditioning. Small hotel, and the restaurant was just below our room. But no noice from there, really quiet and safe neighborhood. Nice, friendly atmosphere. Helpful staff. Good location, free parking on the street or parking space. Avallon services, grocery stores, restaurants and city centre on a walking distance. Our dog was welcome, no problem with that! Good restaurant in the garden.
Cons: Staff members' English skills could have been better, but everyone was helpful and I did learn some French :) The room didn't have a fridge, that would have been really useful for a longer stay such as ours.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Modern spacious room with lots of accessible sockets. Superb bathroom. Plenty of secure parking. Attractive dining room and best steak ever! The owner was very friendly, helpful and approachable.
Cons: Blue light on the TV lit up the room at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They let me park my motorcycle in the garage. The evening meal was delicious and the continental breakfast was ample. Friendly staff.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was brilliant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food and wine in the restaurant was exceptional and very good value. We have stayed at this hotel on two previous occasions and the the experiences 100%.
Cons: We would have preferred a garden room rather than the house room on second floor which was not conducive to 70 year olds - due to narrow ad steep stairs.

Pros: The room was quite comfortable. The evening meal was delicious.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: I chose the hotel because it was one of the only places to stay with airconditioning. There was an elevator despite it being an older building which was great. The owners were very welcoming and provided me with an iron so I could iron my husband and I's wedding guest clothes. I really appreciated this as I know that is not common in french hotels. There was a street full of great restaurants around the corner to chose from for our dinner and an auchan sumpermarket a short drive away. Great breakfast selection. hot drinks (selection of herbal teas, breakfast tea, coffee), juices, cereals, museli, cold meats, fruits, bread, butter and jams, and possibly yogurt. French style. Breakfast pastries (croissant, pain au chocolat) were organised in a basket on each table which was great to sit down to.
Cons: A jug of dairy-free milk beside the hot drink section on the buffet would have been great for me as I am lactose intolerant. The shampoo/ shower gel (no conditioner) provided was of very poor quality. It caused my curly hair to come out in in a fuzzball, so I had to race to the supermarket to get leave-in conditioner before the wedding we were attending. These are the only small two things I would improve. Otherwise, our stay was brilliant

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely traditional French hotel in a beautiful town. We used this as a single night stopover and where very pleased we chose both the hotel and the town of Avallon. In fact we're now interested in seeing more of the Morvan region. The hotel was very comfortable and offered secure parking (important as we travel by motorcycle). We were able to enjoy a beer on arrival seated in a delightful outdoor setting. After a very hot day travelling both the beer and the aircon in the room were very welcome. If you're using this hotel as a stopover, as we did, make sure you take a walk through the town and enjoy the lovely buildings and visit one of its many restaurants. In fact we recommend the Bar le Relax for food.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very centrally located in walking distance of the main part of Avallon with a supermarket nearby & plenty of restaurants. Lovely breakfasts. Lovely parkland garden to relax in. Great family spot.
Cons: A bit run down
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely Central place to stay. Staff very friendly. Would recommend.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Central location. Walking distance to restaurants.
Cons: The manager overcharged us to what booking.com said we had to pay. Even showed her the email. Took it up with booking.com and got a refund - apparently the manager claimed we asked for an upgrade. Not true, the whole hotel was booked out. Just be sure to check your receipt!
7.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful building
Cons: Facilities and decor could be updated

Pros: Location is great
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location by a river, with working water wheel. Super food and wine in the restaurant with good service. Great value.
Cons: Bed was small and cramped.
7.5 Good
Pros: The scenary with the water and the mill was astounding! The dinner and breakfast were delicious.
Cons: The smell in the room was not very pleasant but ok for one night stay.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The beautiful position next to the river.
Cons: Very tired room. Over 10 euros for a single gin and tonic. Dinner was awful. Absolutely no fresh food served at all. My starter of pate for 20 euros came with no garnish at all - not even a lettuce leaf or half a tomato! Our main courses came with frozen peas and carrots and reheated mashed potato. Did not risk a pudding! Such a shame - we stayed here a few years ago and had a very good dinner. We will not be returning.
6.8 Good
Pros: Location, calm, green, gentle sound of the spring, great "fallen glory" and therefore romantic rooms.
Cons: If you're traveling with a child, make sure to specifically ask for rooms on the same floor. Although I filled in the age of my son (13), his room was in an different wing than ours which you could only reach by going outside. When I carefully asked if we could change rooms we were told "we are full". This is good to know as we initially booked for 2 nights, but had to cancel the 2nd due to sudden illness in my immediate family. I told the owner this on our way, but it seems they might actually have us pay for the 2nd night via my credit card. If so, I'll contact booking.com.to settle this. I was deeply disappointed by the way the owner treated us for being vegetarian. It was like being an inferior race ans we literally had to leave to go and find a restaurant in the village. The hotel's menu is expensive (and drinks are overpriced!) it was bizarre to be told they can fix me "some vegetables" for dinner. And when I asked "vegetables with what?" The answer was "just vegetables." Fair enough but please them don't treat me with such disgust and contempt when you give me no choice but to look for a different place to eat. Even some friendly advice as to where? But no, they made us feel like criminals. The next morning, on paying the bill, I tried to explain in my best French that vegetarianism in this day and age is quite a normal and even respectable thing to be, meat eaters will eventually disappear because.... etc. But he barked "so where did you find vegetatian food huh?" and i said "well uhm salad and pizza" after which again I was met with complete contempt. Such a pity, this place would be marvelous if only the owners would display some warmth and not merely focus on making money on an overpriced menu and expensive drinks. Other things that need improving - plastic chairs to sit on outside for your expensive dinner.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: L'hostellerie du Moulin des Ruats is situated in the valley of Cousin, next to a small river and forrest. The room with balcony was perfect and decorated with taste. The plus in this hotel is the restaurant, we had a lovely and excellent dinner on the terrace facing the river. Wonderful evening!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super clean rooms and bathroom. Staff super welcoming, breakfast was amazing. Charming place . We highly recommend. We will for sure come back
6.8 Good
Pros: Clean, nice hotel by the river.
Cons: It's a bit off track in the middle of nowhere (but maybe that's the point). Towels were not changed the 2nd day, no staff available after 9pm. There should be an easier way than waking up someone with a very late arrival.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is beautiful and quiet and the service was very good. Our room was comfortable and we had a pleasant meal. There is plenty of parking on site.
Cons: We last visited the hotel in the late 1990's and had a wonderful time - whilst we had a very pleasant trip the decor is now decidedly 'vintage' in some parts! Whilst the decor does not need to affect the visit the lack of proper shower facilities (in an all pink tiled bathroom!!) does say it is time for an upgrade.

7.0 Good
Pros: Rooms were clean and breakfast was okay.
Cons: Unfortunately the food in the restaurant was awful.
7.5 Good
Pros: Pool was very nice
Cons: Not many restaurants nearby
6.3 Good
Pros: Good facilities and restaurant.
Cons: Room a bit tired. Had to climb into bath to shower. While there were various machines at breakfast, egg boiler, I presume egg frier & juicer no instructions & people had problems working them or kept clear at cost of breakfast satisfaction. Better signage &/or staff looking for problems .
7.5 Good
Pros: Food pricey
Cons: Good facilities
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant was fabulous and the pool and gardens were beautiful.
Cons: Staff were a little lacking! Although we requested a quiet room we were on the roadside and it was a busy road and so we had to have our windows shut, aircon worked well though.
7.0 Good
Pros: Diner
Cons: Half pension not possible if booking via booking.com
6.8 Good
Pros: Ground floor bungalow style accommodation, very accessible by car, we were able to drive right up to the front door. Good bathroom and room reasonable size. Has air con. Lovely pool and gardens, very relaxing on a hot, quiet Sunday. Nice restaurant with lovely food.
Cons: Rooms a bit dated and tired. Carpets grubby and shabby. Very few sockets in the room and lamps not all working, some bolted down so difficult to adjust lighting for comfort. Restaurant food beautiful but service erratic - my main course plate removed while I was still eating and I wasn't quick enough to stop waiter taking it. I was asked if I was ready for cheese course but couldn't reply properly as my mouth was still full. Then cheese not brought for ages, despite my subsequently asking several times for it to be served. Felt we were rushed through the first two courses and then abandoned when we didn't eat quickly enough for their agenda.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Good restaurant.
Cons: The room would have been OK if it was not next to a main road (10m) with heavy trucks passing throughout the night. As the air conditioning did not work I had no choice but to leave a window open. Unfortunately in addition to the HGVs, the insect life is very active and I was bitten to ‘death’.
4.5 Okay
Pros: nice restaurant
Cons: the room
