It was an ideal location Customer service at both check in and in the restaurant was poor, staff appeared miserable and failed to make you feel welcome. In the restaurant tables looked unclean with streaky marks on them, plates were being cleared of left overs into black bin bags at tables and it was all quite off putting. Quality of Service was very dissapointing at this hotel.
I liked sitting in on the Line Dancing. I liked the view of the sea and the luxurious lobby. I also was taken by the friendly atmosphere and the staff were extremely helpful. The food was first class both the dinner and the breakfastand the resturant was awesome. I have been to many hotels in London and The Grand would top them all.
Location of hotel. Hotel staff ar'ent really helpful at all. if you ask the restaurant staff any questions they were rude and did not seem to want to help at all. lifts in hotel also dont work.
I thought it stood up to its name Grand and the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. I enjoyed every minute of my stay may it been a short one , look forward to having a longer stay.
juccuzzi bath the rooms we got looked like something from 1930s
Meals were good
Excellent location, decent rooms, vastly improved from ten years previous when I tried it. Reasonable entertainment, great happy hour. The fact I was charged twice for my room. Once by the booking agent Kayak/Hotels.com, and then again at the reception even though I said it had already been paid.
good room and entertainment
The historic building is very impressive from the outside and equally so inside the foyer with the huge staircase taking centre stage. The hotel had it's Christmas decorations up which looked beautiful. We stayed in room 640 which was within one on the towers, it has two windows with beautiful views of the beach and the town and is of a good size. The food was buffet style serve yourself with plenty of choice, soup. salad bar, hot buffet for main and various cakes, ice cream, mince pies plus cheese and crackers. The breakfast was great with fruit, toast, cereal and of course a full English available, this again was self service so worked really well for us. The general ambience of the hotel was very warm and welcoming.
We booked the premium room and had 1 of the 4 towers to ourselves...amazing. -lots of building work being done...over 60s only really.
Though the room was a bit small for a Premium, the Jaccuzzi bath made up for that! I know its a hard job but, the staff could look a little bit more friendly and a tip bowl in the dining room, put Us off a bit!
too difficult to open front door. breakfast 8.30-9.30
The breakfast was very good quality and service good also. Room was always warm. The matress on the bed dipped in the middle which made it a little uncomfortable to sleep on
The Ashburton Full House breakfast was excellent. Wash basin in bedroom leaked so had to use small hand basin in shower room.
ideal base for visiting the area
The incredible breakfasts and the cleanliness of our room and the hotel itself. Also it's proximity to the beach and town centre.
Comfortable, but small room, great breakfast and friendly staff.
Excellent breakfast. Parking space. Close to facilities within Scarborough. We stayed in the 'four poster' room. Unfortunately the bed was very 'saggy' - so uncomfortable. I kept rolling into the middle! The first night I was cold in bed, so we asked for an extra blanket.
The breakfast was excellent with a good number of choices. The bedroom was a bit on the small side but furnished nicely The bathroom was to a high standard but the heating in there did not work and it was really cold, we dreaded using it
the breakfast was excellent, the room was very comfortable and the owners were extremely helpful
friendly atmosphere, lovely breakfast, and importantly parking off road
Cleanliness of rooms, staff very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant tables were far enough apart for conversations not to be overheard and the tables with the curved seats made you feel at ease. The service was prompt and efficient.
Good food in the restaurant
The opportunity to relax and take in things at my own pace. Nothing major. Breakfast was fine, but on occasions a little slow.
Staff very helpful, especially in allowing us to uncrease our stay when our daughter was in hospital No
We chose this hotel as it accepted dogs. The room was comfortable and very cleanroom and we had an excellent breakfast. Too noisy - wedding party on Friday night. Although our room was located the furthest away in the annexe you could still hear the music but made worse by noisy smokers in the courtyard.
The welcome, the help given by all the staff, we requested early dinner as we were going to the theatre at scaborough, this was done with no fuss or problem and was very good. The general atmosphere around the hotel was excellent nothing
Excellent food and cosy room. Bar area was very quiet initially until music started to play.
Surrounding area and village
the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
peaceful surroundings, friendly helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere
I liked the room which was comfortable and well furnished I have to use a walking aid and the number of steps made it very difficult. Absence of hand rails made it dangerous for me. I had to have a lot of help moving around.
The breakfast was very enjoyable. The staff on reception were rather abrupt and unapproachable also we booked a "superior double room" but were given twin bedded.
general comfort and service. also the convenient location n/a
staff were friendly and willing to help without prompts. the hotel is set closely to the sea-front and town center. the only downfall was the parking facilities - having to unload then drive to park and vice versa the next day. The only downfall was the parking facilities - having to unload then drive to park and vice versa the next day. the 'set price' for evening meal was costly too!
room excellent--- food excellent not very good at replacing teas, milk etc in rooms car parking a night mare ( and we live in London.)
the food was good room was ok only the noise of the kitchen in room 230 was not good when we stay agen not in room 230 if posable
Good location No car park, cold drafty room, old fashioned & tired decor, a bit too close to a Shearings hotel/holiday. The breakfast was a typical overcooked buffet, little fresh fruit or yoghurt not worth £15 each!
I and my wife loved the swimming pool and the breakfast I was not happy that most of the kitchens where not on due to upgrading so we could not order a bar meal and I did not like paying nearly £15 for 2 sandwiches instead and the car parking was a problem as it cost me £12.90 a day tp park the car
just thought it was a friendly place would defo stop there again only problem was there was one cup in the room and it was a doubble room
Fine Edwardian interior, warm and confortable. Good breakfast; Splendid position - a few paces from the hotel gives superb views over South Bay. Can't think of anything!
The bar serves a nice pint of Theakstons. Very small en suite bathroom, very old tv with only the basic four channels.
The rooms have seen better days and are a little tatty
We only stayed for b/fasts which I thought was nice and the help yourself side was prity good The placement of the lift was very poor
The view from the windows was fantastic, a bay window with an incredible view of the bay and castle The hotel is obviously victorian with modern additions. This made some areas a bit cramped, for instance entrance and exit of the lift on the third floor (don't know about the other floors. however on balance this was a very minor inconvenience.
Wonderful Seaside view. The location was superb. A little cold in the room during the day.
the room was very comfortable with a fantastic view of the sea
Cheap room, friendly staff. Nice location Room was small at the back of the hotel with a view of car park. Also hotel very expensive, breakfast £15. car parking £6 to give you few examples. Had cleaners banging on the door at 09.50 in the morning even though you don't have to be out of room till 11.00!!
The location of the hotel was great, it was in walking distance of the town and the castle.
The staff were very good It was very 'tired' and long overdue a face lift
had the feel of a family run hotel smell of stale smoke in communal areas
We really appreciated the personal service and attention to detail. A friendly and professional team clearly passionate about building their business. We enjoyed hearing about plans for further developing the accommodation. A most enjoyable stay; thank you.
Very friebndly and helpful staff and a very good Full English Breakfast.
found it very plesent/ clean/'friendly/perfect postion for viewing would stop again if down that way doors slamed shut to quick
We liked the location, and the knig sized bed. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was very good.
Warm & friendly welcome, nothing too much trouble. Breakfasts, excellent, plenty of choice, good quality bacon and other (local) produce. Stayed in Room 8, bay window with superb views across North Bay and beyond. Suffice to say, we stayed an extra night!
DURING our stay at the stuart house the staff were excellent and worked very hard to ensure our stay was stress free. the breakfast was excellent, the room was clean and spacious. first class service, would recommend.
I found the staff to be very polite and welcoming and the breakfast was excellent.
As they had space they upgraded me from the booked single room to an ensuite twin at no extra charge Nothing, considering the price
friendliness of host and location
We were very pleased with our 1 night stay. Room at very top with a good view. Great breakfast & helpful owners. 51 stairs to top floor so may be hard for families with young children, but you get a good view.
The food, the staff, the feel good factor! I would like my room to have been on-suite
The cost of the stay was more than quoted on-line. I was quoted £54 and it was £60. Was not given a reason why.
Very Nice hotel and food with a very nice accomodating landlady. Breakfast timingswas a bit limiting only being served between 0815 and 0830.
Breakfasts, clean bedding TV did not work efficiently, Shower faulty, Toilet was flushing all night long, A tiny room, noisy children in close proximity in room and breakfast table
proprieters were friendly and helpful, food wes good. limited parking
Good basic accommodation, good value for the money Cake for breakfast
Nothing The bed was hard and noisy the breakfast time was disgracful over lot of money for this kind of hotel
Fairly central but quiet surroundings. Room was quite small.
Staff friendly and helpful Toilet seat was unanchored on one side, (but adequite to use safely with care)
the peace and quiet away from family and friends i didnt go for breakfast, but apart from that time you would expect to see staff i didnt see them at all,not even when i booked out.
The breakfast was the only good thing about this hotel. The room was reminiescent of a small dormatory type set-up. Very poor quality bed, decor, personal facilities ie shower/toilet/wash basin. I had understood the room was a 'Double with 'king-size bed capable of splitting into 2 single beds' - this was not the case and there were 3 single beds. The room was therefore rather cramped and poorly set out. Not really welcoming, very basic accommodation. The whole property is in urgent need of a good dose of tlc.
The room was clean and comfortable with tea making facility The shower was difficult to work, the breakfast time was 8.15 to 8.30 no flexibility, egg undercooked
Very friendly, warm and welcoming staff. Excellent food, especially the breakfast! Off road parking, reasonable rates and a great family atmosphere. Would highly recommend to anybody looking to stay in Scarborough.
Friendly atmosphere, comfortable surroundings, excellent sea views. Bed just a little uncomfortable, on saying that, I do have back problems.
The breakfast was good value for money and the owners were helpful and down to earth I would have loved to have the opportunity to decorate the walls in both our room and the halls and staircases as there is so much room for potential and each room could designed unique with its own theme
The young lady on reception was polite. On the night we stayed the weather outside was windy. The curtains in the room were blowing with the wind and because the windows were so old the draught coming through made the room cold and uncomfortable. There was a radiator in the room but it didnt compensate for the draught. Neither one of us slept comfortable that night and it was a pleasure to get up and leave to get warm in the car.it also advertises smoking rooms and thats why I chose this hotel but on arrival we was told the hotel is totally no smoking.
The view of the sea & castle
staff very helpful and caring. Not double glazed so a good veiw but chilly though the offer of roomat the back was made. The weather last weekend was below freezing the heating was turned up for us. we had continental breakfast ,i noticed that the same pieces of ham and cheeses appeared on all tgree mornings
We had everything we needed for the pupose of our stay. The staff were very nice and homely. Unfortunately our stay was short, but next time we go to scarborough we will try to get in to the same hotel. Also the view from our room was stunning. The car parking was very average, however that is not a reflection on the Hotel itself.
The friendliness and assistance of the staff. The cleanliness of the rooms(we stayed an extra day so were acommodated in another room). The views from each room. The quality of the breakfast. Extremely good value for money, and we were charged the same discount rate for the extra night.
The service was excellent, food was very good. The room was smaller than we usually book but was comfortable with excellent sea views.
The hotel is on excellent location. All Member of staff are very friendly and cooperative.
staff very nice & helpful food excellent rooms adequate. Not licenced accomdation little to do in the evening.
Breakfast and breakfast service was excellent, staff couldn't have been more helpful and cooperative, parking a huge bonus.
very good service.very clean no.
Creaking floorboards and noisy seagulls made sleep sometimes a problem
the room was cosy, and the owner was very nice
Convenient location, comfortable room, good service, good breakfast, very clean and well decorated, parking Outside does not do the hotel justice
Very helpful owner. Free parking outside. Nicely decorated and clean. Tasty breakfast. Free wifi. Close to a park and seafront.
very good guest house
Very large room, only booked a single, room had double bed and bunk beds.
Breakfast was exellent & staff very pleasant indeed. Noisy plumbing system !
Staff are polite and very helpfull. We wanted to eat out and they gave us a list of places and a map to follow so we could find uor way back easily. We locked our key inside and they gave us another one without saying a word. They filled our tea tray and made our bed every day.
Location Staff were continually under pressure due to lack of experience and under-staffing. Minor complaints could not be addressed quickly.
The staff were very pleasent, the Spa was wonderful and I for one liked the creaky floorboards, they added character and charm.
The friendliness and excellent sea view
I liked the cleanliness ,warmth and quality of this good hotel.Reception staff were nice, dining room staff were friendly and efficient. I didn't like the "no access "to the rooms until exactly 3pm on the day of arrival although the lounge area was pleasant with good quality tea and coffee while you waited.. Or the 11a.M. checkout.Breakfast was adequate.A Buffet with more choice would have been a better option ,instead it was brought to you and although hot it had been made a while..
The rooms were brilliant. The decor was really nice, modern and stylish. All the staff were really friendly and made you feel at home. the best thing was the quality of the rooms and the television in the bathroom. nothing at all. we had a brilliant and lovely time.
The restaurant area and front entrance were impressive. Back entrance area is seedy, dark and the inner lobby and stairs were in need of redecoration.Noisy water pipes and floorboards, lift not working, poor menu for vegetarians. Early check-out time 11am not 12 noon.
The big bathroom Lack of car parking would discurrage me from visiting again
evening dinner and the hotel location, and the parking arrangements Very poor breakfast self service counter, the worst we have experienced, staff failed to fulfil requests, ie. morning paper, teapot of tea a breakfast, fail to correct the bill, and failed to notice a family/guests who have their child use a potty whilst we were dining close by.The hotel have been informed.
Felt like home from home please yourself but always somebody there if you needed them.
the hotel was great and clean looked fresh in the room care is be taken here to keep ontop of the place, the owner and wife were very welcoming and very helpful they want you to be comfy but don't make too much fuss
It was clean, off road parking, plenty of hot water. The walls were a bit thin, you could hear other guests in adjoining rooms.
we liked that it was room only if that what you wanted so we didnt have to rush in the morning for breakfast but we had the choice if we wanted which was great the shower was not very good as it had no heat controls which i thought was a bit dangerous
We could come and go as we pleased and felt that our belongings were safe The Price of Breakfast as my kids only eat cereal and you are paying the same for that as you would for a cooked breakfast etc
Very Friendly staff Car park akward and tight for space my car was actually damaged twice by other vehicles because of this
Room rather claustrophobic
very clean. friendly staff
Good location, you get what you pay for If the hotel is full can be very noisy
The room was small but clean and comfortable, but for us was alittle to far out of town. The only thing was the shower was a patheic dribble and hard to get washed under also the walls were very thin.
Having own key and being able to come and go as you wanted No
