Location and external appearance. Cracks in the tiles; holes in the walls; dank view of the internal courtyard. Before I stayed at the hotel I believed it was a three-star going on four, but now I know it's going on two. Time for a total internal refurbishment...
The reception staff in particular were very helpful
Very comfortable and well and conveniently situated in the town. Did not find one of the check in people very friendly.
Good breakfast and excellent meal at Chambers The car parking arrangements
We loved the location and the breakfast was first class, cooked to order too. The bedroom was on the small side.
Have stayed here before and found it a pleasant and convenient place to stay in Shrewsbury. Will most likely be back again in the New Year. Thank you
the location is perfect and a beautiful old building also the bathroom was really awful
The location was great. The breakfast was even better. All in all a great stay. n/a
Helpful staff. Good food in the restaurants. Being rushed through dinner as there was a large party in.
use of the spa facilities really creaky floors
The room overall was very good plenty of space. The decor was to a high standed. The shower was poor, breakfast was not the best! the tv in the room should be updated.
The receptionist ( training to be a clinical psychologist ) was the most smiley ideal receptionist and of course gave the most wonderful first impression.Other staff excellent ,good breakfast and inclusive use of the spa is terrific value.will come again. The electric storeage heater in room 60 was not particularly efficient
On Arrival the Hotel was well presented Room was nice, However the bathroom was dirty, mould / discolured around the bath and shower screen quite off putting. Sorry
Tucked away Staff in Restaurant wore "grey" shirts which originally would have been white. If the table cloths can be a bright white why can't you put the staff's white shirts in the same wash?
Dinner Bar staff and poor service there
The relaxed atmosphere, the food was first class. Friendly staff on hand. I loved the pool and spa.A very good 4 star hotel. I would have liked a map to find my room. Im terrible at directions and kept getting lost. Maybe have some landmark pictures. Go left at the Picasso sort of thing.
In ownn grounds, pool and gym, friendly and helpful staff
As a wedding function was held that evening a party followed in the corridor and in adjacent bedrooms until 3am (yes!!! 3 in the morning) which made it very difficult to get any sleep. Other residents complained loudly and the hotel management were nowhere to be seen. I will not stay at this hotel again!!!!!
The spa facilities were very good On the whole the hotel staff all gave poor service
Very friendly hotel staff, good food. some of the decor is very tired
its location right in the centre of town. walking distance to everything we needed. free parking.
We liked the comfortable bed and the downstairs rooms especially the big open fireplace. The breakfasts were really lovely. Our room was at the front next to the busy road so was very noisy at times.
warm with big open fires, town centre location with car parking Poor selection of wine, drinks very expensive
The choice of lounges, restaurants, bars. We also enjoyed the breakfasts, and found all of the staff pleasant and helpful. The bedroom was outdated (regardless of the old character of the hotel) and parking was difficult. Possibly, locals use the parking facilities on a Saturday and there were no spaces left for hotel guests.
Very comfy bed Large Bath Log fire in Lounge Excellent breakfast
Service was friendly and unobstrusive, there was plenty of comfortable lounge area for both quiet and socialising with guests etc. It was central for our purpose and had a carpark.
Good Food, Clean Room, Friendly Staff
The restaurnat staff werer both efficient and friendly - the food was nicely presented and well cooked Not really - the floor boards creaked - but the place is after all very old...this was charming, really. But could disturb other guests etc in the adjoinng rooms!
Comfortable rooms, great breakfast, friendly helpful staff.
None There wasn't any hot water when I used the shower. On arrival we ordered some tea and coffee, as we were too early to check in, and had to wait nearly 30 minutes for it. I felt this wasn't really acceptable considering I had been driving for almost 3 hours.
Good nights sleep very poor reception on BBC1 and I didn't like the smell of the air-freshener
Arrived on the Friday night and had a meal in the bar/restaurant. Breakfast choice on Saturday was excellent, as was Sunday. Did struggle to get a table on the Saturday eveing as there was a wedding, which we were unaware of. However, this was soon rectified by helpful staff. N/A
Hotel is in a good location, staff were polite and helpful, breakfast and buffet lunch were satisfactory Rooms were a little tired looking and shower facilities old fashioned
Staff very pleasant and helpful. Food good value and good quality for the price. Handy for the centre of Shrewbury. Room 101!was very cold despite 2 rads being on. Towel rail in bathroom wasn't working so bathroom was freezing cold. Despite reporting the fault nothing was done about it for 3 days. Noisy[traffic] and not much room to work. Pillows poor and need replacing.
I found the receptionist really pleasant, which gave a very good first impression. My daughter and I dined in the bar, and we found the service very good. No complaints.
Friendly, polite, unobtrusive staff. Good food, clean and tidy. The staff responded well when I asked for another bed in the room for my son to stay. The lady (Portugese or Spanish), that served breakfast was lovely, and a real asset to the hotel. The Darwin room is a feature of the hotel and allows for private family dinners and meetings away from the main dining area. It would have been nice, being as my stay was over the Christmas period and temperatures were in minus double figures to have been offered an upgrade to the main hotel.
Staff were extremely helpful. Very pleasant stay. Will definitely stay at the Lord Hill again.
Good food. No toothbrush and no toothpaste. The customers should be well informed of this beforehand. As a frequent traveller, I can't really accept this is common practice.
The service was excellent and very welcoming, they could not do enough for you. The room was excellent, very clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicious and you could choose what ever you wanted. There were not any bad points.
Excellent staff, excellent facilities, no fault in any way
The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent.
Clean and tidy, staff helpful and friendly No Parking, tv reception was poor.
Very central setting. Welcoming owners. Parking is an issue in the mornings
Queit cozy place but within few minutes of town square. Family-run informality, excellent breakfast. The breakfast window of 8-9 on a Sunday was too early, too short. The room cleaners also worked only till 11 on Sunday which was surprising.
Comfortable bed. Lots of clean white towels. Interesting old building. Handy for river. Noisy (near building site and pubs). Instant coffee with breakfast. Lots of stairs to climb with suitcase. Overpowering "air fresheners". No thermostat on radiator. Owner not particularly friendly.
Friendly greeting on arrival, comfortable room and a great breakfast.Would stay again.
situation, very convenient could do with a few finishing touches
Good location, close to shops, restaurants and attractions but on a quiet(ish) road; easy to come and go when we wanted and a car park nearby. Service a bit uninspired; certainly not the friendliest hotel we have stayed in. Decor a bit tired and old fashioned.
The bathroom tiles and the wifi I found the brekfast staff unpleasant. It seemed as if he didn't want to be there - he keep banging the plates and cups about - in fact another breakfaster commented upon this. He was quite grumpy. Maybe he should look for a new job. The cleaning lady and the young girl were much nicer.
I only stayed one night, but my overall impression was of an efficiently run hotel. There was nothing I disliked.
Lovely old building. They tried to charge me for breakfasts I hadn't had because they assumed I was with a group of others staying at the same time.
Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere and excellent food. Very nice environment in which to spend a weekend away.
we had a lovely evening meal ,staff were very nice , very cold room ,broken shower water went everywhere but my body and it was held together with tape, we felt springs badly in matress ,
Exceptionally clean and comfortable hotel with fantastically friendly staff who made every effort possible to make you feel welcome. Pub downstairs a little noisy but nothing discomforting.
There were no coathangers in the room and when we asked for some it was like we were asking for something special. Water not particularly hot for a shower.
I have stayed at this hotel previously, but not very a few years. Rooms have been improved but the hotel has maintianed it's historic character
Friendly staff. Cleanliness of room. Food very good Room facilities a bit basic but reasonable given cost
close to town, food stairs abit dangerous
Close proximity to the centre of Shrewsbury We chose to pay extra for breakfast, but it seemed as though it was too much of an effort with the lady in the breakfast room - we ended up just having tea, cereal and toast because it felt 'uncomfortable'.
lovely and warm on a very cold weekend
A warm welcome in a relaxed setting. Great location for shopping and going out! The room was clean and attractive and had everything we needed for a short stay. The food in the restaurant was lovely and the service again was friendly and attentive! Toilets in restaurant in the morning were not clean. In fact extremely dirty!! We were there quite early but I do expect toilets to be cleaned before you open.
The room had lots of space and the bath room was lovely. Bed was very comfortable Needs to be a mirror in the main room. There was only 1 large and 1 small towel for myself and boyfriend.
Friendly staff and the room was modern and well fitted out. Bathroom had good facilities. Breakfast good in a pleasant surrounding. Room very small and cramped. But OK for a 1 night stay or for just a single person use. Would not want to spend longer.
Excellent breakfast No mirror in bedroom near socket plug to dry hair, & not much room to walk round bed. Room 1
Staff were efficient friendly especially the manager who made our stay very welcoming. We would definatly be recommending your hotel to friends and family and would definatly return in the future There wasnt any
Room was well equiped, comfortable and every thing worked. Breakfast was very good and price about average for what we got. We would do it again. Noise from the street every night, people and traffic. Lack of on site parking is very difficult.
Morgans was a clean modern pub/ hotel No heating on first night. The prices charged were not the same as shown on the internet - ie Breakfast was more expensive than advertised. Traffice noise was bad
Rooms clean and well furnished. Excellent bathroom facilities, brilliant shower and plenty of hot water Parking can be difficult in Shrewsbury but staff are helpful in guiding you in this respect.
Fantastic hotel, comfy bed, good bathroom, clean and modern, great service and lovely breakfast! Full length mirror really needed in the room and thicker curtains to block out the light!
I stayed here for just one night, I usually stay at Holiday Inn or similar. I found the quality, comfort and friendliness of staff to be quite exceptional, one of the most comfortable hotels that I have ever stayed in and I will be using this hotel in the future. My only niggle would be a slight draught from the window but saying that, the age and caracture of the building makes this acceptable.
The fact it had retained its character- in keeping with the town and its history Nothing really
Easy walk to town centre No car parking although staff did direct us to an NCP carpark a few minutes walk away.
Charming Staff, Beautiful Building, Nice Room and Decor
The breakfast was fantastic... if the orange juice had been freshly squeezed, it would have been perfect!
We thought the bedroom was lovely (stayed in the 4 poster) and it had lots of character. Bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was also extremely good and staff friendly. The sink did not drain properly and unfortunately, despite the lovely bed, we had a terrible night's sleep due to lots of loud and drunken people in Shrewsbury making their way home on a Saturday night, right in to the early hours. This is why we have rated the value for money particularly low as we paid quite a lot of money for what turned out to be a terrible night's sleep. Even with the window closed you could still hear the noise and police sirens wailing past! I would therefore recommend the hotel but not the room.
very pleasent staff made very welcome beautifull 4 poster bed very comfy lovelly room nothing
The food was first rate and so we did not need to eat anywhere else. The staff could not do enough for us. We will certainly be going back again. There was a certain amount of road noise during the night, but this should be improved when the new glazing is installed, during December.
Central location, friendly staff, excellent food, a lovely garden patio at rear away from the noise. A very old building fronting onto a busy street and no double glazing. Very noisy at night. Parking 1/4 mile distant.
staff made you feel like a friend no

Beautiful restaurant, lovely setting. Whilst reminders about responsible drinking are relevant for weddings, the note in the bedroom painted a mental picture which detracted from our experience.
A picturesque country hotel with excellent staff and great food, just a short car journey from all the shops you could want
Travelled to see relatives It would have been better if the tea cups in the where replaced after afternoon tea, which is what we expected
The room was perfect for our wedding night, the views we beautiful from our bedroom window, the staff were very good, would stay again.
The hotel has lots of character, in lovely surroundings and the staff were good as they paid attention to detail and we felt welcome. n/a
Attentive but not intrusive staff and excellent evening meal. Nothing
Very comfortable, excellent staff and food, just an overall very pleasent stay. Hope to stay again soon. Thank You. No dislikes.
the gardens and the view executive bedroom much too small for two people
General atmosphere of a proper hotel The crackling accopanying the excellent pork dinner was to say the least a dissapointment
friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast.
Very nice staff, superb clean. Wonderfull
The location to the town center was excellent Tiny carpark. Parking for only eight vehicles, two rows, one against the building and the second row directly behind.
The breakfast room was better than average. Staff willing but somewhat uninformed on the question I had. A bit tired and too small room for the price. View of the parking lot and curry shop
The hotel is situated very near to the shopping centre, has its own car park and the rooms are comfortable.
Central to shopping centre and the riverside towpath.
Guy who owned the hel was ver very helpful good location not applicable
A good location for the town centre easy access to shopping and the river Severn. Ability to leave car parked free of charge due to good location. Standard of room was not particularly good (room 9) was on the top floorothers appeared better.
Pleasant, comfortable, friendly hotel. Good decor, bedrooms small but adequate, clean ensuite. In a good position for the town on foot with some lovely walks along the river. Car park is small but had no trouble with a space, alternative is pay and display parking nearby. Full english breakfast a little sparse and limited time slot - 8-9am.
