10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an amazingly beautiful apartment near the mountains with a view over the sea, and on a farm. The owners showed us around on their farm, which was absolutely very nice. The apartment was very comfortable, and we had everything we needed.
Cons: The apartment doesn't include any breakfast, but we found a very nice breakfast at the bakery in the town that's very close to this apartment.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great big Apartment! More or less everything is new, and beds are GOOD! Very Nice family is hosting.
Cons: Not much to do close to the Apartment
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extra facilities and location!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location of the Steinn Farm was stunning. At the edge of the fjord - you can admire the lovely scenery from the living room and also from the patio. The apartment was elegantly and tastefully decorated. Very comfortable. The kitchen facilities were also great. We were given a tour of the farm where there are several animals - rabbits, sheep, horses, poultry etc. We were presented with fresh farm eggs, which was a nice surprise. On the whole a great experience on our road trip in Iceland, en route to Akureyri.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is simply mind-blowing ! The owners are so nice you will feel home. Note the restaurant, even if a bit expensive, really needs to be tested, the chef cooks every dish with local products and the result is delicious !
Cons: Nothing, just enjoy the place and try to spot the aurora !
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Best breakfast of our whole trip in Iceland :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best room in our 8 day visit to Iceland. Semi private back patio faces north with great view of Northern Lights. Building acts as wind break. Rustic. Could not have been better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view was spectacular! Even though it is a little ways from the main part of the village/town it is well worth staying at this establishment. When we arrived they provided us with a handful of local things to see and do as well as a wonderful local place to eat! I could not have been more happy for my first night in the Northern part of the country!
Cons: We left the area too soon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the location, so remote. Great rooms, clean. Restaurant was perfect in this setting and the hosts were amazing. We saw the northern lights!!! Courtesy of being notified by the owners.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location. Gracious hosts. Excellent breakfast and delicious dinner with old Icelandic family recipes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I guess you would call the rooms 'cabins'. Either way mine was really cool. Nice big room with double bed, seating area, TV, CD player, tea & coffee and a door onto a little deck with fab views. Bathroom was a spacious 'wet room' with rainhead shower and lots of hot water as always in Iceland. Had dinner in the restaurant, delicious, the Birch soup (a first for me) was moorish and the cod just fell apart and their home grown potatoes were yummy. Breakfast was also really good, not a huge selection but what they had was good quality...love the potatoes again and the flasks of fresh coffee on every table. The young man who checks you in and is also the waiter, forgot to ask his name, was a star, excellent ambassador for the guesthouse). I saw the NLs from my deck at 3am which made my trip. Awesome place.
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like.
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice and modern rooms. Free entry to nearby hot springs. OK breakfast buffe, but not more.
Cons: Location in the middle of nowhere and only breakfast is served. Luckily we had some food with us that we could eat in the evening, as it is quite far to any resturant. No cooking possibilities or kitchen available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant was very nice. We had an excellent dinner. Highly recommend restaurant, location, nice clean room

Pros: Host was awesome! Chris was very friendly and helpful! Loved our conversations.
Cons: Better darkening shades during ling lighted nights.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Happy surprise, nicely decorated, a small but very tasty and homemade breakfast! We arrived late and we got greeted by Kristoffer that showed us around 23:30 at night! Thank you for a really nice stay at the guesthouse :D
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This lovely horse farm guesthouse is a bit off the beaten path, much to our delight. We enjoyed chatting with our super friendly host, Kristoffer, and wandering along the pastures looking at the horses. Our room was large enough but cozy. Breakfast was typically European, right down to the egg cups for the soft boiled eggs. The house was very clean and we appreciated being able to use the kitchen. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a quiet location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff , views and all the information we got from staff about things to see and do !
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was awesome! Nice buffet bar with breads, cereal, etc. The location is just beautiful! Close to town without being in it. Rooms where nicely sized. It is off a gravel road so drive carefully if you didn't get the gravel insurance on your rental car.
Cons: (We went right before busy season so there was only one other set of guests there so this wasn't a problem for us but could be if busier.) There are only two bathrooms/showers for about 8 rooms so mornings/evenings could be congested. Also good to note that they only provide hand soap so bring your own shampoo.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and very helpful staff (thank you Kris for your advice for the horse riding and places to visit!), cosy homelike atmosphere, picturesque scenery and connection only in the house:) - perfect escape from hectic daily routine!
Cons: Nothing)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Awesome location, close to the horses. Nice host. Comfortable room.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: No TV, no wifi. The ultimate place to find and cultivate deeper connections, with Nature, with others, with yourself.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The most beautiful remote guesthouse we have ever stayed in. Amazing views in an idyllic location. Off the beat and track. Highly recommended.
Cons: The pictures did not justify how great this place is.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nicola, the hostess was very nice and went out of her way to wellcome us. She even fixed some food for us to eat (cold cuts) as we came late and there was no restaurant around.
Cons: Location and the room. This guesthouse is located far away from the paved road, 5.7km down a rough dirt road that is not on the map. The owner neglected to warn us that Google directions do not work. We had to call him and wait on a side of the road for him to drive to us and lead the way towards the hotel. It took us 40 min to get to the hotel. Apparently it is a common problem. The room had skimpy furniture. The shower and the toilet were separated from the room by frosted glass with no sound or light insulation, no hooks for towels or clothes. The sink was in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect: silent location with breathtaking view. Beautiful house and comfortable room. Special thanks to our gentle host Valgeir, who made our stay unforgettable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! the building, host and of course the surrounding nature was beyond what i expected!
Cons: nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location and really nice host. So peaceful with wonderful bird life.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We are experienced travelers who have seen much of the world, but seldom enjoyed a hospitality experience equal to a night at the Kolkuos Guesthouse.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The remoteness was exceptional, beautiful views from every window.
Cons: A little difficult to find but well worth it when we did.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful excellent location and house. Wonderfull hostess once we met up.
Cons: Poor directions to house. Goggle maps took us to completely different location.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: very confortable and clean facilities, well equipped kitchen, nice decoration to make you feel at home, location in the center of the town, great location to bath at grettislaug at nigth
Cons: just one bathroom
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The guiding email was sent to me several days in advance and unfortunately I totally forgot. However the owner still showed me how to get in with patience via phone call, though it was a little late. Seems I was the only guest that night. The old photos on the wall were really great.
Cons: Not sure what the room names mean, hope it could have some English explanation.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We had the whole house for us alone, because we travelled very off season ;-) There is a big kitchen and dining room with all you need to have a good time - and the local bakery, where you can get a fantastic breakfast, is just across the street.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a lovely and cozy place. Nice rooms, great kitchen and clean shower, the best place we stayed in Iceland at. Easy self check-in
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect position for the bakari in front of the guesthouse, beautiful renovated kitchen and bathroom.
Cons: Nothing to say
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice fully equipped kitchen. Check-in process was painless although it took a while to figure out where exactly the place was. Location was good but there's really not much to do in this town (not a fault of the property of course)
Cons: Tiny shared bathroom other than that there really isn't much to not like about this place.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Well located across the street from a wonderful bakery. Very nice shared kitchen.
Cons: Window shades were inadequate to keep out the light. Common areas were too small. One family of 4 using the kitchen and dining area took up all the available space. They weren't being impolite -- it was just too small for more than one family. Rooms were very small. The radiator worked in one room but didn't seem to in the other (we had 2 shared bath twin rooms).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very easy check-in, we just called the owner for the keybox code. The room and common kitchen and bathroom were clean and confortable, it was a relaxing place, good option if you need to pass a night in Saudarkrokur. We would repeat.
Cons: There wasn't anything that I would really change, it was all correct.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Cleanniness,, welcome drinks, the nice distribution of the apartment.
Cons: The sink didn't work properly, one window didn't close completely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was spotlessly clean The kitchen was bigger than the pictures make one think Nice design Good coffee Good email communication

Pros: Very friendly personal: the owner is a lovely woman that truly cares about her guests and gives them advice on the surroundings. The hot tub was perfect to relax. Rooms are clean and everything is well furnished. To recommend.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner is super friendly. The hot tub was perfect after a long drive, I could enjoy the hot water alone, looking at the mountains. The place is a farm house, if somebody would like to stay close to restaurants, the city, than not recommended. Perfect getaway though.

Pros: Comfortable home, lovely hot tub and very welcoming host. We enjoyed our stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our host was very gracious. She is a treasure trove of local information and Icelandic history. The guesthouse is on an excellent working Icelandic horse farm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Heka the owner will tell you nice stories and she has a nice farm also so if you like horses that is the place for you, and she got a hot pot as she is calling it, so thats a bonus.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room and a really nice lady as host.
Cons: When dark, really not easy to find. When place full, the one and only bathroom is very busy.

Pros: Hotel clerk very helpful. Very cute little hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Simple, easy, good location. Euro spartan but everything you need. Many wonderful things to do in the area. Great bakery in town ( perhaps why breakfast bread and chocolate croissants so good!)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Thermowater pool in the yard, the dining room was interesting with an old renovated style
Cons: Was expensive
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is just adorable, love the exposed wood. They upgraded us for free, since it was a slow night at the hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the hot pot in back was the perfect temperature. They provided comfy robes to slip into after our soak, with complimentary tea provided. Overall, a very good stay!
Cons: The walls are a little thin, but it wasn't really a problem. We had people next to us and I still slept like a baby. Plus, they provide earplugs in case you have noisy neighbors.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We honestly liked everything! Especially the breakfast area and the stone hot tub...
8.3 Excellent

Reykir Grettislaug - Sauðarkrokur - Bedroom
8
8.6 Excellent (73 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Reykir Grettislaug is located in Hvammur. The property features lake and sea views. There is a seating area, a dining area and a kitchen complete with a dishwasher, a microwave and a fridge. A children's playground can be found at the bed and breakfast, along with a garden.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location, it's next to the sea. The hot pots (altough they charge money for it).
Cons: The building we where in wasn't very well isolated. The wind just went right trough the walls. The fact that they charged money for the hot pots. But aside those facts it was a pretty nice place te stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The best hosts I met in Iceland! Hospitality, scenery, tranquility
7.5 Good
Pros: The setting was stellar. Just an amazing place. The facilities were basic, we knew that ahead of time, but we had a WC in our room next to our friends. The beds were super comfy which was great after a long drive. In fact we overslept and didn't get to use the hot springs or try the cafe.
Cons: that I didn't budget enough time to stay here longer!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great views, really close to pools :))... Quiet place
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful guest house, off the beaten track, with lovely helpful hosts. We rented the whole house but can have as four twin rooms with shared kitchen and bathroom. The upstairs rooms have en-suite loo and sink each, downstairs just have sink in room and shared bathroom. The naturally heated hot tubs are a short walk down the road and were a perfect way to relax, there’s an extra charge for their use payable at the cafe.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing lanscape and view - even for Iceland. I highly recommend this place at least to visit it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This place was amazing. It is basically a self catering guest house, but we came in late October for 1 night and had the whole place to ourselves which was fab. We renamed the place “ the shrieking shack” as there were 60mph winds during the night and the whole place literally shook as if there were earth tremors and I feared the roof would blow off! Not my best nights sleep but that was more to do with me being a wimp than the accommodation!! We lost power and heat because of the storm but beds really comfy and duvets cuddly and warm so not an issue for us. The location is stunning, very remote and by a little hot pool that was fabulous. Don’t know about other times of the year but it was just us and another couple in there in the evening and in the morning we got it to ourselves! Really fantastic. Would highly recommend.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, friendly staff
Cons: Very old building, not so clean
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds, gorgeous property, very remote but close to a very cute town, pools were nice and hot, and the staff was very friendly! Felt like we were a million miles from home and able to relax. Also, the cafe on the property had the best (and most affordable) food we found in all of Iceland.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Off the beat track
Mikligarður Guesthouse - Sauðarkrokur - Building
9
7.7 Good (176 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Mikligarður Guesthouse in Skagafjörour, you'll be a 3-minute walk from Saudarkrokur Heritage Museum and within a 5-minute drive of Tannery Visitor Centre. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is great, easy to meet people, cosy room
Cons: If you are on the ground floor you might hear the front door banging whenever someone comes or leaves
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: breakfast was minimal--in the basement. The hotel originally put us at an offsite location but requested to stay in the main hotel (Hotel Tindadell. Then they charged another $80 for the upgrade.
Cons: Very overpriced for the place--do not recommend that anybody stay here. Also there was a hot tub (natural) in the courtyard. Not maintained--hard to get into because the rocks were slimy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely people, very warm hearted and caring although my mother (68)didn't speak any English, they had no issues with communications and laugh. Highly recommended. Good stopover place.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s a place that you just stop since you are moving from one place to the other. The village is small but it had two or three eating places which were handy. We had our laundry sorted out for krona 1500 at the hotel. Nothing to complain....shared bathrooms were clean and breakfast was ok. We had access to tea or coffee as much as we wanted.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Cosy place - nice location.
Cons: The building is very badly insulated so that a quite a bit of noise is in the rooms, coming from other rooms and from the seating area in front of the rooms.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast room was available to those of us who chose to make supper and the only request was we leave it clean. Very much appreciated and gave us the opportunity to meet other guests. The room with a shower was a big plus! Breakfast offered a variety of food although no hot items. Excellent bread!
Cons: Locating the guest house from the directions was very difficult. Once we found it we had to go to another hotel to check in-not appreciated after a long day. However the gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and helpful.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great breakfast.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice shared bathroom, big kitchen, parking and OK rooms. The breakfast is in the hotel and is hosted with a small buffet. That was worth the money.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and breakfast area at the sister hotel was convenient and fantastic. Hotel was in the heart of the small city and everything was very convenient and walk-able.
Cons: The double room for my wife and I was very small. Thought the rooms in general were over-priced for the quality and size.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing particular except the nice breakfast provided at hotel Tinastoll.
Cons: Only 1 of 3 lights working in room. Bathroom smelly. Poor kitchen utensils- fry pan handle dangerously loose, egg slice bent in half while using. Very narrow staircase and bannister dangerously loose. Nothing on booking confirmation said breakfast was included. Place generally needs attention and repair. Not good value for money compared to 8 other places stayed at around Iceland.
Hotel Mikligardur - Sauðarkrokur - Building
10
7.3 Good (65 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Hotel Mikligardur in Skagafjörour, you'll be next to a golf course, within a 5-minute drive of Tannery Visitor Centre and Saudarkrokur Heritage Museum. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and an elevator (lift). Free self parking is available onsite.
5.0 Okay
Cons: It’s a boarding school.
7.0 Good
Pros: Good bed and linens. Good breakfast.
Cons: The hot water has a very slight sulphuric smell.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice common areas and a good breakfast. The room has everything you need and is clean and modern. The staff was nice and had an antra power adapter available which was helpful.
Cons: It would be nice to have a comfortable chair in the room. When traveling as a couple, we want the ability to relax in our own room, rather than having to go to a common room. A TV in the room would be nice as well. We got in late from site seeing, and so it wasn’t a problem.
7.5 Good
Cons: Breakfast was basic fare in comparison to others.
6.0 Good
Pros: Enthusiastic, caring host
Cons: Shared bath, location
