The hotel facilities, beautifull scenery and exellent service made our trip unforgetable. The veiws are breathtaking. We will definately stay here again.
fantastic wine estate and hotel to stay in while sampling all the wine of the region. honeymoon suite was well worth it!
It was a wonderful experience.
Luxurious surroundings with excellent food & wine. Open plan bathroom style, which is ok for couples, but not great for extended family members or friends travelling together.
Our room was very comfortable with splendid views. The staff were very helpful and always smiling. The location was quiet although just on the main road. Our room was in a block furthest away from the reception and restaurant which was not very convenient especially if one is on the wrong side of 75!
The scenery (and view) was excellent. Spacious rooms. Five star prices and two star service delivery. The accommodation and the restaurant prices align with a five star establishment, the staff however has not been properly trained and there was not adequate supervision at reception, housekeeping or at the restaurant. At a five star hotel they should pay more attention to detail.
The location and rooms were very good indeed. The restaurants are not quite as good as you'd expect at a 5* hotel, and the staff in the restaurants are disorganised and slow, though to a certain degree this is endemic in South Africa.
luxury hotel on wine estate.large room with balcony overlooking beautiful scenery of vineyards. great location for visiting other vineyards, wine tastings and seeing wine country.hotel was not booked and we were thrilled with the upgraded room. I really loved this hotel and setting.
Location awesome, staff superb, they upgraded our room to one that overlooked lake and vineyards. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Pleasant and peaceful environment, Fantastic view, Beautiful room, good food, winetasting, friendly staff Nothing.
Wonderful. The staff were incredibly helpful. Our room was beautiful wih a fireplace that went through from lounge to bedroom. Great breakfast. TV reception poor. We also wanted a cocktail before dinner but unfortunately they don't have a bar. Given the number of bars in Stellenbosch however this wasn't too much of a problem.
Beautiful & historic hotel with very friendly, helpful staff. Very centrally located. Hotel was being renovated while we stayed there but this wasn't at all an inconvenience unless you make it one. Breakfast was fantastic.
we had no hot water on the first night and it was cold. there were construction going on which we were not informed about when we made the booking
liked everything! liked everything!
The rooms were large and the ambience restful. The staff were also helpful. Booking transport directly from the hotel can be expensive.
Charming, old world and historical. Interesting architecture and decor. Close to museums, shopping and restaurants. Handy for visits to wineries and spectacular countryside.
The service was excellent, the room very comfortable, loved the dressing room and the bathroom, lots of space, very practical. A very good experience. Will def stay there again. Would just like a shelf above the sink for toiletries.
The location in the centre of Stellenbosch was excellent. All the staff were very good, including immediately transferring us to another room when we had problems with ours (see below). The hotel was noisy, not just because of renovations (which is why we had to swap rooms and which will be going on until mid December) but also because the wooden floors, ceiling and other fixtures amplify every sound. I know it's a historic building, but some more soft furnishings might deaden the noise a bit. The first room we had was uninhabitable because of renovation noise and I don't think it should have been let, especially at £100 per night. It was impossible to spend any time in it at all during the day because of the deafening hammering and drilling from the other side of the wall. Even without that, it was just above reception and there's a lot of coming and going late at night and early in the morning.
It was a historical building and nice buffet at breakfast. It was difficult to find the hotel by car because the main entrance and approaches were under construction and hidden. As the room was old but not so unique, I found it a bit pricey compared to nice hotels in Cape Town. I hope to visit after they finish the renovation.
Loved the old fashioned style, particularly the four poster bed! Breakfast was absolutely superb. Great location. Parking a bonus. nothing
The layout is lovely The service directory in each room is a little too small. The bathrooms are a little cold during the winter - heated towel rails would be good
Great to have horse riding on site. Our daughter loved being driven around by Stanford in his golf buggy. The quality of food was very disappointing, particularly in a region known for great food.
The deli was awesome! I also enjoyed the gas fireplace in the room: very easy to use and romantic I felt that the hotel was overpriced and the rooms lacked the luxury finishings.
The only good thing was that it is on the same property as the conference centre where I was attending a conference! Room key did not work every single night, the dustbin was not emptied until I put in the middle of the room, the cobwebs are actually hanging down from the ceiling and I don't think that the ceiling fan has ever been cleaned, the food is really good but certainly way over priced!
Our booking was lost between booking.com and the hotel. We where made to wait over an hour for our rooms and staff would not tell us what was causing the delay which lead to frustration after a long trip. Guest manager did apologize the next day for the inconvenience but despite this I would personally not stay at again or recommend this hotel. Also believe rooms did not meet 4 star quality. Having stayed at various 4 & 5 star hotels around SA on this trip, the rooms and facilities at Spier were below standard of the others of similar grading.
Needs a gym
Peace and quite
Beautiful room. Prompt service. We requested a cab/driver and he took us to a few fabulous wineries that were not on our list. It made the trip to Stellenbosch!
The facilities available and the location
All of the different experiences on offer - birds especially Minor points - hair dryer plug would not stay in socket; patio rather dirty; sunloungers in private garden left out overnight so wet in the morning; no coffee jug for ground coffee; no drinking water in the room.
Due to the off season period it was very quite. A bit artificial but a beautiful place to be. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The Moyo and the Jonkershuis restaurant are both advisable as well.
The hotel is very well situated in town. Restaurant serves decent meals at good prices. Parking space is limited. Studio rooms are very small.
Well located in the centre of Stellenbosch.
I was upgraded free of charge because my first room had no shower. The apartment was roomy, comfortable, with a balcony that looked out over a quaint street of shops. The Java Internet Cafe downstairs was a great resource for computer use and food. The provided breakfast was lovely. Underground parking was nice and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was slow getting someone to let me in and out of the parking garage at times. The free internet service was down during my stay.
The rooms keys need to be upgraded. Daughter was given a smoking room when we requested a non-smoking one. TV did not function properly. Cell phones interfered with all other electronic equipment in room.
The staff was amazing poor facility orientation and comfort due to renovations- very small room
Accessible to many facilities No
Very clean, old fashioned hotel, with all the basics needs. Very reasonable priced. No
The location of this hotel is perfect. The rooms are quaint and comfortable. Appreciated the indoor dedicated parking as parking was one worry we had about staying in the town centre. Walking distance to all local attractions and reatsaurants and ideally situated for visits to the wine farms.
The staff were very friendly and kind. We booked via the Internet and received a stuffed (smokey) room. The moment there came an opening the staff kindly upgraded our room. Thank you very much. We stayed for two nights. There were safe underground parking which was welcome. The stuffed (smokey) room was not very pleasant. It was very hot and we couldn't use the aircon as even more smokey air entered via the aircon. We had to open the window at night ( for fresh air) and did not sleep well due to the traffic noise. Luckily the staff moved us to another pleasant room the moment they had place - thank you very much.
Location/ Quality Restaurant/ Superb Breakfast Had to move from Ground Floor Room as Courtyard was in use as a Drinks area and a table of people immediately outside our French Windows.
Great location. Good size adjoining rooms. Nice freshly cooked breakfast. Be aware that the 3rd floor of the hotel does not have a lift and can only be accessed by an external staircase from level 2. As we needed to check out at 6.45am on a Saturday the desk manager offered to arrange a breakfast box however this never arrived.
Very comfortable hotel with a helpful staff. Good value for money. I would recommend to a friend looking to spend ~1,000 rand / night. Decorations and interior design seemed a little confused. It wouldn't be a guest house where I'd spend time in the house as opposed to going out.
A wonderful stay, very relaxing and comfortable. It felt like a "home from home". Excellent breakfasts with home made cup cakes to die for! We did nt walk in to the town from there but it was a good location for us.
The staff were friendly and interesting. No question was unanswerable to them. The furnishings are of a very high standard. The breakfast is excellent. Centrally-located and in a safe neighbourhood. Would love to stay there again. The only downside was that there are 2 houses in the street full of students that partied until the early hours. However we were assured that it was just in the week before the university year starts, which is when we were there.
The high quality of the finishes
One of the hosts, Michael, is absolutely perfect -- very friendly and helpful without being intrusive in the least. He did everything in his power to make our stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. When we left after our 3 day stay, it felt like we were leaving behind a friend! The breakfasts at this guest house are amazing. We stayed in room number 1, which has a wonderful bathroom with a huge ultra strong shower, as well as a spa bath. Not only is there a well stocked mini bar in the room, but there is also free tea, coffee and rusks (!). In addition, there are free delicious freshly home baked biscuits as well as a very well stocked honesty bar in the common areas. Unfortunately this guest house is not in the best side of town, and initially the exterior looks fairly uninviting. However, the area is surprisingly quiet, and the guest house's interior is so well designed, that once inside, you completely forget about the outside world! Our bedroom in room number 1 was medium sized containing a bed, bed side tables, suitcase divan, suitcase table, wardrobe, dressing table and chair, and TV. The only thing missing (that would in any event not fit due to lack of space) was a sofa or couple of arm chairs. What made up for this, was that the shared lounge was just outside this room. At first we were worried that other guests using this might bother us, but in the end we were the only ones that used it!
Friendly staff and excelent breakfast. Intemate atmosphere and well designed. Good taste of South African living. Noisy Stellenbosch student life around the area.
We liked the owners as they were very helpful and also made suggestions about good places to visit and helped us rent a car. Our plane left late in the afternoon and they let us use the room later in the day to change. Very nice place to end our stay in Africa No
Great staff, wonderful room,
The staff are great, really friendly, hotel very clean and welcoming None
Small size and friendly owner... and great common 'livingroomarea'. A bit far from the city center.
Very nice hotel in beautiful surrondings. A little bit to far away from town and restaurangs if you dont have your own car.
Everything. The hotelier was extremely personable and accommodating, and the room had a fabulous view.
The setting was fantastic. It is a working Protea farm with lovely gardens and very green and relaxing.
Excellent attention to detail. The gardens where beautiful and the view from the balcony at No.4 was almost surreal. Lovely quiet "homelike" venue where you felt that you could come and go at will. Highly recommended.
We loved this hotel! Service was exceptional and the surroundings were amazing. The hotel was beautifully decorated. I strongly recommend! Weather was cold and there was no heating in the hotel. We were freezing a little during our stay. In our room, we were able to heat thanks to aircon but in the breakfast area it was pretty cold...
A most wonderful setting in the protea farm with huge vistas more attentive service would be nice
Excellent rooms, food and swimming pools. No
Stay was very short but found reception staff very accomodating and helpful Service at breakfast was a bit slow and meal itself was not up to par for a 5 star establishment
Excellent rate and excellent quality of food. Modern room
Customer service is satisfactory from booking, restaurant,Spa and house keeping, interior design is exquisite, comfort is unmeasurable. Gymnaisum equipments need some upgrading or at least maintanance expecially the rowing machine.
extremely clean and staff were excellent
Friendly. Very high quality room. Good value for money
Location for wine and golf, and it feels more safe to be outside Cape Town center Take the clients problems more seriously
Breakfast I booked through this website which indicated that Majeka house is 5 star. When we arrived we were booked into the guesthouse which was NOT 5 star. It was very disappointing! Some of the bedding was dirty, the bathroom was dirty and not property cleaned, my car had to stand in the road overnight as there was not sufficient parking. For the price I paid I could have stayed in a very good 4 star B&B. This guesthouse I was booked into is not even 3 stars in my opinion. I think it is misrepresentation on the website.
Very friendly, accomodating and flexible.
Excellent location for Stellenbosch; everything within easy drive and the facility was very good...........food excellent and a very interesting evening selection. Staff extremely helpful. Condensation dripping from the roof caused by the heated pool and sold weather outside.......clearly nothing else to complain about !!!!
The hotel is situated in a beautiful mountainous area with surrounding vineyards. The room is furnished in a French Provincial style and all needs are catered for. Friendly and exceptionally well trained staff makes your stay an unbelievably relaxing and pampered experience.
Nice welcome on arrival and assistance with accommodation. Convenient and good location. Well organised and well tended premises. Good breakfast. Beautiful outlook. Stellenbosch nearby. Franschhoek close. Wine region very accessible from here. Plenty to see and do. Pity I was not able to spend longer.
Beautiful location. Friendly and helpful staff.
We enjoyed very much beautiful nature, food and their hospitality.
The staff were friendly and the breakfasts were divine!
it´s a very nice place, it´s very secure, the people are nice and helpful, there is a wonderful and good restaurant, it´s quite a quiet place and you can enjoy the time for staying there
Panoramic views of the vineyard Bathroom becomes wet during shower as shower screen fitting on the bath tub not properly fixed.
The setting and the friendliness of the staff.
The setting Quality of dinner food not up to 5* standard in my view - we stayed at the Vineyard in Newlands and the mount Nelson also on this trip - both were better food!
The hotel is lovely and the location stunning. The rooms are beautiful and set in small clusters, with 4 different swimming pools so that none ever seems crowded or noisy. The Spa was fantastic, a real treat at a decent price - would highly recommend it. There was a wedding ceremony on the lawn during our stay, which was lovely to be able to watch and enjoy the fireworks at night. Having stayed at the Lanzerac many times before, we were expecting the same 5 star service we have always received - how disappointed we were. On arrival our 2 double and 1 twin room were in fact 3 doubles, leaving 2 teenage boys to share a double bed was not ideal! They eventually split one of the beds, but in the wrong room! We waited a long time for service on the terrace with the staff disagreeing among themselves whether we could just have sandwiches. It also took twenty minutes for an ashtray to appear. Breakfast was appalling - the hot buffet was akin to that of a 3 star hotel and service was equally thin. Terrible customer care and bad service - inexcusable!
Beautiful setting overlooking the vines, Relaxed feel. Very comfortable room stylishly decorated. Close to Stellenbosch.
The style of the rooms and the breakfast rooms is very nice and very tastefull The place is noisy because of the road nearby and also because the walls between the rooms are far too thin, you can almost listen to your neighbour's conversations which is a pity because the rest of the place is really nice
The owners were charming and went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and pleasant. They provided excellent recommendations for wineries. The food was fabulous and the rooms were designed to meet all our needs from comfort to luxury to relaxation. no
Nice room, excellent bathroom More could have been offered for breakfast
The staff was friendly and very helpfull. We stayed at the cottage. The condition of the cottage is not very good anymore. Ceiling is coming down, geyser are not looking very good.
This small, personal wine estate is one of the best family-run places I have ever stayed at. Everything on the premises was thoughtfully designed, the owners are extremely gracious and accommodating, the wines and foods were superb; all in all a very special place. My wife and I felt as if we were a part of this talented family. Not a thing.
A very pleasant atmosphere with good service and personal attention by the owner. Wonderful
Staff Lack of possibility to explore the vineyard
We has a Lovely room we a great view. The Pool lovely and warm, good location for visiting the local area. Hortel dog we very noisy in the early morning. Breakfast was only ok shame as everything else was good
Room and room service was very good. We had no hot water. No alternative plans were made from hotel side. No discount in price was offered for the terrible inconvenience. It was our anniversary and it was not perfect.
We went to the Devon Valley Hotel for our Honeymoon and all I have to say is"EXCELLENT"!!! "Fantastic" Everything was above standard! We enjoyed the food and the room was great!
Its location in the middle of the Cape Wine Region. Being secluded from the main street, it is very quiet and relaxing. The dining room is nicely decorated and it has a great selection of wines from the region. Wireless internet connections did not work, though I got the access code from the reception.
Very quiet peaceful. Resturant was empty at dinner.
Very nice hotel and nice view Nothing
Beautiful countryside, lovely hotel. Food fantastic.
Beautiful sight, really relaxing and nature related, great breakfast (best we had in South Africa), attention to details A little bit far away (10-15min drive) from the city center
relaxed atmosphere, beautiful setting, friendly staff Wireless internet should be free even though there are two terminals you can use,
We would happily stay here again however, notwithstanding we booked a room with a valley view and an en suite we were allocated a room with no valley view and no separate en suite. The toilet/washing facilities were in the bedroom separated by small screen-not good,so avoid room M2! The checkin staff did give us another room but no view.Apart from this irritation it was fine. The restaurant was pretty good value and not surprisingly so was the wine. The view from the hotel terrace was fabulous.
The location was superb with spectacular views of the mountains and surrounding countryside. My wife and I were both impressed with the the frirendliness and helpfullnes of the staff, and we would have no hesitation in returning or recommending the hotel.
