We like old style buildings. The first night was very quiet. The second night at 11.20pm a large group who had been dining moved into the Lounge and didn,t stop singing til turne 1pm. It spoilt the whole weekend. The hotel also needed some attention. The wardrobe door was held shut with bluetack, water leaked through the ceiling. However, the Hotel had only been taken over 15 days previous and I think the new owners were aware of the problems. They were very friendly.
The room we were given was directly above the bar which was in use til 3.30am. We didn't get much sleep! They also lost our dinner reservation. The room was too small for a double and had many faults with the decor, cracks in the fireplace and walls, lock on bathroom door broken. There was insufficient draw space. The food was expensive, £5.50 for a small dish of vegetables!
It was a lovely country hotel, staff tried to be helpful No atmosphere in the hotel, too exspensive for £99 per night we expected a little luxury not a dated bathroom and shower not working! lumpy mattress & slab pillows also having to write my bank details down on paper & security code!!
Poor menu choice, some fixtures and fittings cheap, not enough staff to cope.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Food and service was brill Did'nt expect premium 4 poster room to be in attic !!
The location. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The log fire and comfy sofas. The heating in our room was not on at 4pm when we arrived. It was a cold November day outside. Our room was not in the hotel building but a converted outbuilding, which was not stated when we booked. The bathroom was miniscule and old/dated. The pillows were rock hard.
Surrounding countryside, friendly staff, excellent food Rooms very basic, cold, bathrooms very poor
The peacefull location and friendly staff.
The staff were outstanding, food excellent, the hotel is very well run.
you felt a relaxed atmosphere, no rushing around. it was great.
Reception staff were helpful and room and bed were spacious.
Absolutely the best, most beautiful hotel we have stayed at in the UK. Wonderful restaurant and wonderful food as well as service. Keep up the good work. Highly recommend your hotel. No
Friendly staff at meal time, plenty of car parking, ideally situated for A40 Swimming pool far too small
facilities breakfast good evening meal portions small for the price
peace and quiet and the location Choice of dining menu and the cost.
Comfortable room with good facilities,a very good meal with very effici.ent and friendly service no lift
The size of the room was great. Food was value for money from the bar, the breakfast was good and extensive. Nothing major
Good facilities, good food in restaurant, good room and friendly staff. Good location for shopping in Oxford and visiting the Cotswolds
Friendliness of all staff, like being with a family. Guests Lounge(s) comfortable, if a little cooler than rest of hotel. Shower good, nice and hot. Overall cleanliness. Large wardrobe/storage space. Position of TV too high, strains the neck (room 19).
Cleanliness and character Our room was located directly above the bar, so it was very noisy at night and quite difficult to sleep.
I thought the staff were very pleasant, the bar area was lovely with the open fire and the setting was perfect for a weekend at Cheltenham as slightly out of town and easily could avoid the hustle and bustle of the meeting The breakfast was ok, we were pleasantly surprised when we found out because it was race weekend we would have a full breakfast (after reviews we had read we were expecting continental), the options of full english were limited. To be honest I preferred the continental piece of the breakfast which is most unusual for me. The bar did close quite early as well, would have liked a later drink.
location, location, location None
very good food. friendly and helpful staff throughout. location. small, tired rooms, noisy (floorboards, wall soundproofing, generator or extractor outside window working 24/7)
Location. Charm of the hotel. Restaurant expensive and no alternative bar menue
Only stayed one night and could not fault it. n/a
This is our 6th visit to The Unicorn and although there are more luxurious places to stay, it suits our need for relaxation without fuss. The staff are always helpful and courteous. We will return again next year for sure and look forward to lazy days in front of the log fire! the bathroom is a bit tired and needs some attention.
staff were attentive and there was a nice bar the hotel is tired the bedrooms need refurbishment
Location, Atmosphere, Comfort, Friendliness of the staff N/A
The staff was very friendly and eager to please. Our room was clean and comfortable.
Spacious room and bathroom, private outside seating area.Good central location.
comfortable room, helpful friendly staff general atmosphere in the bar & dining room, location & food
we stayed one night. The room was a good size, it was clean & the decor was good. We had a good open view of Moreton high street. The bed was comfortable. we got complimentary tea/coffee and sparkling wine brought up to us on our arrival which was great. The only meal we had in the hotel was breakfast and it was very good. Our room was up 2 flights of stairs with no lift but the staff carried our bags up for us.
The hotel has lots of character and plenty of olde world charm. Also it has just been modernised so all the bedroom furniture and fittings were very modern and in good condition We have been in room 112 before and in that instance there was damp/leak problem with water coming in the ceiling by the window, despite the refit, there is still a problem with damp in the room. The room smells "damp" when you arrive and the sloped ceiling above the bed is "wet". Also breakfast service could be a little quicker. That first cup of coffee needs to be with us fast!
A very relaxing hotel in good order. Due to age of building noise from room above was disturbing
Relaxed, informal but very good quality. Really liked the decor mixed with the really old beautiful building. Fantastic location for a relaxed weekend - lovely shops and pubs.
The staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming. Great decor, good food and a nice atmosphere in all areas.
Only one the toilet in our room required 3 to 4 flushes. Too little water dispensed at a time, downstairs were toilets fine.
The location to the train station was excellent. The fresh flowers and the complimentary brandy were a great touch to our stay at the Redesdale Arms Hotel. My friend and I wanted and got a great time in the Cotswolds with the help of this hotel.
the efficiency of the staff during the stay was first rate - rooms fantastic value for money as was the food
The food in the dining room was excellent. The service was prompt and the the food was delicious. Very helpful over my wife's need for a gluten-free diet. The shower had a 'corner door' which made it difficult to use.
The room was very comfortable and well equipped. We liked the complimentary sherry in the room! The restaurant was excellent - we had two very good evening meals there. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was very warm and comfortable and the evening meal was excellent. Good value for money.
The room was excellent and so was the food and service. N/A (We liked it all)
Pleasant friendly atmosphere with a good buffet breakfast included. Excellent evening meals also available. Alarm clock left set from previous resident woke us up at 7:30.
friendly, relaxed atmosphere, good car parking area.
good service, warm welcome
location of hotel, and friendliness and layout of the bar meals in restaurant were over-priced
the winter`s tale room was lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. we also really enjoyed the food in the restaurant and the service was great too
The meals were the best part of our stay at this "hotel" which, apart from the bathroom, resembled more of a B+B. We had been allocated a room up on the top floor, which meant we had to climb quite a lot of stairs to get to our room.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. In fact they go the extra mile; when we asked to leave bags in reception because we'd arrived before check-in time, they checked us in anyway. I was staying on business on this occasion, but would recommend it to anyone staying for leisure/pleasure too. Will definitely be staying there again. I put on four pounds!
staff who really cared about us, nothing too much trouble. Cosy place to stay, lovely food and good value for money.
We enjoyed our stay at Burford Lodge very much we were made to feel very welcome. Food and facilities excellent.Highly recommended! I would suggest maybe a covered area outside for those of us who do smoke and the weather is bad!!! Not a complaint just a suggestion!
Lovely food and surroundings. Friendly and efficient staff. A heating problem was sorted as soon as practicable and in the meantime every effort was made to ensure our comfort. nothing
Lovely English Breakfast. They could mention that bedrooms have TV with DVD
Friendly and obliging staff. No
Very courteous staff and a comfortable classic styled room in a building with character.A good breakfast is also provided.
I was most impressed with all the staff. They were polite and extremely helpful I felt my room was a little tired and could have done with some redecorating
The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The room we had was quite noisy as it was situated on the ground floor and the gravel driveway run right passed it and the hotel kitchen was in close proximatey
Courteous and efficient staff in a lovely hotel.
It's 'Old World Charm' and central location. Couldn't have been better, simply perfect.
Gardens. Parking easy. Quiet. Well presented throughout. Excellent breakfast included in rate (although fruit dish rather mean!). Generally friendly and good service. "Classic" rooms were smaller than anticipated for price and their interior design modern and appeared not in keeping with age of building. Service was very good, although younger waitress forgot who was having what even though we were alone at breakfast! I'm not into feng shui at all, but the hotel felt almost back to front in the downstairs areas.
it was beautifully situated we found the staff, particularly the night manager, aloof and condescending
Service & food was superb We stayed in room 2. The bathroom was tiny & the bed was on the hard side
Location was perfect Didn't explain the heating remote in one of the rooms - therefore was cold until we asked. Electricity went out due to faulty light globe.
Premier room had small garden and was exquisitely positioned. Jacuzzi bath great and bed comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. They've obviously spent a lot on this beautiful building and outbuildings - the main house dates back to about 1700 Despite being quiet, you walked out of the front door a few yards to the High St and River Windrush Food was 2 rosette standard - I thought it was a little bland, but that was a matter of taste - it was beautifully presented.
Location and quality of the food at breakfast Room too hot and damp-leaky radiator
The surroundings are amazing, the food was at a very high level and the room was nice it was all a little over priced, food, wine, room. its was very nice, but i've stayed in better for less.
Fantastic breakfast and staff were very helpful and attentive.
Service was both willing and charming (though no one offered to carry my case). Excellent breakfast. One could read by bedside lights - a rare pleasure! Decor a bit shabby and not particularly to my taste. Comfortable first-floor sitting-room had unused look.
Friendly staff & excellent service.Wonderful food. Real ale was a bonus.
Burford is a lovely town in the Cotswolds. Also the countryside surrounding it is wonderful, especially in Autumn.
The room, the quiet, the comfortable bed, the excellent breakfast (even though I only ate it once), the accommodating staff (thank you for my early morning latte on the patio). Turning off the patio lights around 11 p.m. (midnight?)..... I couldn't have my late night read outside.... a small thing, but important for me. It would have been good to have a facecloth included with the room's linens.
Clean, pleasant staff, good central location on the high street. Room a bit tired looking. Cream for coffee in the room was out of date. Cold room- the heating had not been put on. Facing bins at back of building & a bit noisy when staff were. Putting the rubbish out.
The food - both breakfast and dinner was outstanding. The best meals we had in our tour of the Cotswolds.
Friendly staff, lovely food and a wonderful location The rooms were scruffy round the edges we had a light at the door that didn't work. Bath panel was broken and damp coming in onto the carpet.
Breakfast and staff were first class Bedroom needs to be re-decorated and bathroom up-graded - these were disappointing features in a hotel with a superb location, within an historic buildingm
Good room, nice atmosphere, reasonable food No hot water on the Saturday morning, cold shower on a bitterly cold stay
Very good staff , helpful and very friendly, very good food, lovely old hotel with ancient beams and uneven floors good atmosphere. No bad points
Restaurant food was superb and would recommend it.stay was enjoyable. Room was too hot and not easily acccessible
Heating could be improved
Our room was very spacious, warm and quiet. Location is excellent for walking and sight seeing.
Great location good value I would certainly stay again check in - I think the receptionist was having a bad day and when we got back he was still grumpy!! All the other staff were great
Nice genuine people on staff. Mattress a bit hard, but I am incredibly fussy about "bed quality"and have an incredible merino wool mattress cover at home so I am a bit of a "comfort obsessive"!
room was big enough to live in! pleasant and polite staff. sheets on the bed instead of just a duvet! yippee! heating was very hot, but then that's a personal judgement
Location of the Bay Tree was excellent for visiting Burford. My husband and I dined in the restaurant and the food was very good. Choice of breakfast also very good. The receptionist, a young lady from Berlin, was helpful and very pleasant. Having worked in the hotel industry (a long time ago - Head Office Personnel for thf Hotels, hotels in Paris, Sardinia and also as pa to Executive Director of the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, Loondon)for many years, I noticed our room (Walnut) was in need of some cosmetic work I.E. chipped paint on the walls. I'm also not entirely convinced that the bottom sheet on the bed had been laundered properly (rather creased with marks on it) and there was also a stain on the top cover. Not noticed until we got into bed and I didn't think housekeeping would be on hand at that time of night. When you are paying £137 per night, I feel the standards should be higher. I also noticed a special offer on reception for midweek for a double room considerably cheaper and wonder why this was not available when I booked on-line?
Staff very efficient and food excellant. Thought wine prices a bit steep and £3.75 for a bottle of water for my wife at dinner, not really justified. We could of course asked for a jug of tap water, which was what we expected.
local to Burford
The atmosphere, old building with nice details....living inside of History ! -
Personal and friendly with a warm and comfortable atmosphere without being coldly ostentatious
The comfort, furnishings, decor, luxury, value for money, atmosphere. Nothing
Memories of the past, good service, friendly staff and excellent food
Old English atmosphere, comfortly appointed, good food and very friendly members of staff who gave help when it was needed
Quiet, clean, comfortable and excellent service which was unobtrusive but sensitive to needs.
Morton in Marsh is a beautiful location. Good breakfast Lack of heating in the bedroom. The room was very cold and not well sound proofed - could here other guests coming and going, doors banging and car alarm ringing all night.
Location of the inn. Inn had a lot of charm and character, very large room with a lot of period features. Also (but this is a really personal point): map of the wine region of Beaune on the wall was a nice touch for my sister and I as we grew up about 30 km away from it. Very quiet inn especially considering we had the beer garden/smokers area below our windows. We asked for a twin room but only had a double bed. The girl who checked us in and showed us the room mentionned that a sofa bed would be made ready for us but it was not when we got back to the room. The mattress was too soft for our taste.
Really nice pub/hotel excellent facilities, very friendly staff. excellent location for town and visitng local area. Cannot think of anything negative.
Comfortable beds Very very cold cottage. Kareoke in pub until 11.30pm. Poor breakfast first morning.
Rooms adjacent to beer garden and patio courtyard for pub therefore noisy during pub hours, not for the guest wanting an early night.
Clean well presented room
Excellent room, lovely oldy wordly, excellent staff all round, breakfast very good. Just had a bit of problem with the shower, no power in it so gave up and had a wash, but it wasnt a problem really, we only had one night there, would have said something if had more nights.
The location was excellent, staff friendly. The noise at night! Beds not very comfortable and room seemed damp.
The room was a nice size, and the breakfast was nice. great location on the high street of the town. The extractor fan from the kitchen was right under our room, and woke up up in the morning, also would have liked a later check out than 10am. TV was also very small, but we didn't come to watch TV
the beer garden was brilliant, safe and secure for kids. breakfast was good too. there were three families in our party and one couple, the varying types of accommadation suited us all.
I arrived late in the evening and the owner was on hand to let me in and get settled .Room/bathroom were clean and comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was the classic 'Full English Breakfast' -featuring Award winning sausages from the local butcher! No Dislikes - disappointed that i missed the 'Biztro restaurant'. Next time !
Nice old hotel Our room was above the bar which was extremely noisy
fabulous and very romantic. loved it
Lovely room and helpful staff. Plenty of space in the communal areas and lovely breakfast in the conservatory overlooking the gardens. On arrival, the room was a double not a twin and the beds weren't separated until late. However, the staff were very apologetic and we were offered complimentary drinks.
Stylish interior whilst maintaining the mature building.
Excellent location, restaurant, pub, reception area and lounge. Excellent breakfast. Standard room small, but that is a general problem with older hotels. Bed was small & too soft, but it had to fit the room.
attentive service! knowledgeable staff! restaurant a little expensive
Pretty garden and garden room where we had a very good breakfast Terrible access to our bedroom, tv did not work clearly and loo flush in bathroom was very poor
I don't think you can find a better example of an Olde England Cotswold hotel. Log fires, beams, uneven floors, mullioned windows, beautiful garden and courtyard. But a lot of thought and money has been spent on bringing it up to modern standards and the furnishings and design are brilliant. Luxury, but not stuffy. The soft lighting in our bedroom (Room 9, Tudor Moot Room) made it hard to put my makeup on. Had to wait for my husband to finish in the bathroom so I could use the mirror in there , but there was no where to place my makeup bag. The electric shower is feeble. Neither of these points would put me off going to The Manor House again!
reception staff very pleasant and efficient we found the restaurant service and food a bit fussy.
Character hotel. Standard room very small, we stayed in the barn conversion annexe, room was very small with single glazed window which was very noisy. It felt as if we were staying in a beach hut. There was a noise in the pipes which kept us awake most of the night. Also we had to travel to a nearby pub as the restaurant(which is another pub a minute) away was full, priority to guests with bb and e meal.
Location Staff and service
Lovely setting, staff very friendly. Lovely meal. There were no biscuits on the hospitality tray.
The reception and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and welcoming The setting is delightful and the food in the restaurant was very good. Our bath room was very cold - no apparent heating and interesting though the high ceilings are, there was a draught. This did not spoil our stay but if the weather had been colder it might have done.
lovely location, good restaurant
We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first room was extremely hot, we spoke to reception who offered us another room without hesitation. The restaurant is excellent both for breakfast & dinner. After eating there the first night we definitely wanted to on our second night but forgot to book. So after a day out and about came back to hear it was fully booked being Saturday. However the staff were brilliant and said they would manage to squeeze us in and we weren't disappointed, the steak was perfect along with everything else! Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and setting. Will definitely go back.
Setting and location excellent. Public rooms nice Scandinavian type rooms (118) were very very small. Little wardrobe and storage space. Walls were paper thin. We could hear neighbours even when they were whispering and using bathroom! Flight path from nearby RAF base. No double galzing. It was clear the accommodation was geared to single people on conferences/workshops. Massive disappointmant!
I liked the helpful staff in the restaurant who worked extremely hard on the sturday evening of our stay. I stayed in room 121 which was awful and i have complained personally to Diane Cornish the sales manager and i have yet to have the courtesy of a reply to my comments.
The hotel grounds and local area The fact they have a two tier system where guests staying at the Old Swan get dining reservation preferences and their own roped off lounge area that the Minster guests cannot use
The lovely village location and splendid grounds, the roaring fires and tasteful country house feel. The restaurant was a little disorganised. Four people took our orders and served us and the co-ordination was lacking and the service was therefore slow. Why not allocate given tables to specific waiting staff?
Location. Overpriced. Price point for this property is £170. Staff poorly trained (didn't know where room was, couldn't split bill for dinner between rooms). They can't make a decent cup of coffee either. No proper heating in bedrooms (just a small electric fire - radiators not turned on) which in October in the UK is unacceptable.
Pleasant friendly staff.idylic and romantic location Restaurant food at dinner overpriced. The attempt at good food guide standard did not achieve its purpose. Our more modest comfort food meal in lounge the following night was more enjoyable.Wine mark up was very greedy
Feel at home, staff very friendly and helpful One of the bath taps was loose and the handle for switching from hand shower to water for the bath was missing!
The hotel staff were very friendly and courteous and the hotel setting was excellent The breakfast was of a poor standard and did not match up to my expectations - with small portions and poor quality which did not match the standards I would have expected - very disappointing !!!!
room was very comfortable and the dinner was delicious
We really enjoyed our stay at the Washbourne Court Hotel. It was very relaxing , in a beautiful setting. . .quiet and peaceful just what we were looking for! The food was excellant, both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Some of the waiting/bar staff seemed unexperienced and/or uninterested in their job.
A get away from it all location with nice walks and Cotswolds life on your doorstep. No, its a nice place to stay and explore the two towns within easy reach of this location.
The dog friendly attitude of the staff and the way our dogs were welcomed.
The staff were lovely, attentive, and the general air and ambience of the hotel was relaxed and warm. We enjoyed a lovely stay in a beautiful location.
Lovely hotel, high standards but a relaxed and warm atmosphere. Really good food, very nice bar with good beer and a log fire (it was November after all), rooms clean, comfortable and well appointed. Popular with the local community too, always a good sign.
Convenience of location, comfort of the hotel, courteous, friendly and helpful attitude of all the staff, good quality food
Plesant staff. Decent breakfast
The hotel was in a great position to visit Burford and surrounding area. The food was first class and in fact servings were too generous! Lovely olde worlde hotel Would have liked a firmer bed
Location and friendly staff.
Staff making us feel well taken care of. On a busy street
Excellent food and very convenient location The fire alarn at 2.45am with no guidance or advice from the staff as to the problem
Very clean. Accessibility. Easy to park. Walking distance to town centre. Lack of tv channels. People expect some Sky channels now. Slight road noise.
Very friendly staff
Location and value The attitude of certain staff members
We only stayed for one night but it was great to get there and park at the hotel, book in dump our bags in the room and have a couple of drinks in the bar. We had a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit basket in our room, we chose to eat in the bar, we could have eaten in the restaurant, the food was gorgeous and the staff very friendly. it really is a beautiful old hotel a good breakfast in the morning. I probably would not have chosen the four poster room if another had been available, just because of the extra expense but on the other hand we do like a room within the hotel rather than in the courtyard of a hotel nothing to fault
