I enjoyed the comfortable room, though rather small for a double. The location is very good, just 10 mins into town on foot and several restaurants/pubs within 100 yards. The staff were friendly and reasonably helpful. The breakfast buffet was not too extensive. The cooked "full English" was unimaginative, the service slow, and unattentive, the food sometimes warm rather than hot...
Quiet room on the top floor of the hotel. Lovely comfortable bed. Nice bathroom. Friendly helpful staff. There was nothing we were unhappy with.
good atmosphere, helpful staff, good situation, quiet rooms, convenient parking andd straightforward billing arrangements. dim economy bulbs and cheap plastic glasses in the bathroom.
Very comfortable room with good facilities
the car park and the fact that the room was fairly quiet. the bathroom was very small and the extractor fan was extremely noisy.
Its closeness to the centre of the city, its old world charm, and particularly the reception staff who were extremely helpful
Breakfast too expensive
very convenient location, pleasant surroundings, good breakfast no
Location and nearness to labs and centre Room 64 washbasin waste lever needs attention
All things are very good. There is very quiet the bar is very nice to take a rest. When you feel tiere, the location of this hotel is a little bit far from the city center. But there is a very good transport of buses. It would be nice, if the staff tell custumers which numbers of buses you can take.
Everything was excellent. Fantastic staff, great atmosphere, super rooms. I would give this hotel 11/10 Absolutely nothing
The location is excellent, perfect surroundings and close to villages and the M40, but not affected by the motorway at all. The hotel is ultra clean and very well designed with a mix of contemporary and country feel which I thought worked really well and feels relaxing and laid back. The staff could be more professional and attentive to guests, they seemed busy, a tad scatty and preoccupied. Three different staff saw us on arrival but did not acknowledge us or say anything until we grabbed a manager and asked how to check in, it's not immediately obvious where the reception is as it's a small part of the main bar area. The only other thing would be the road the hotel is on does seem to be quite a well used road and tends to be used as a race strip. The front facing rooms could do with a better form of secondary glazing to combat this.
Room was nice and clean. Room close to the main road, noise!
Recently refurbished to a high standard, this hotel offers most of what a business traveller could require. A seperate bar and reception desk would have been a better idea
Attractive room good quality for the price Staff on reception have to answer phone and deal with reservations whilst you stand and wait to checkout. Need a different system as quite annoying when you are limited for time.
We had a short 1 night stay. Room and bathroom were large and modern (LCD TV, airconditioning, bathtube with shower). Fair breakfast, but no great. My room was not noisy, but I guess it depends on which side of the building you are. I asked for a double bed and received a twin bed instead. English breakfast was not included in the room price and costed 5 GBP. This was not obvious and I had to pay it when checking out. Very little accesories offered (just soap, shampoo, conditioner and showe cap). I would have expected more from a 4* hotel. The choice for the breakfast was also limited, I've stayed in 3* hotels in Warshaw which were much better value.
Great staff and attention to detail, great food but just on the edge of expensive. Food as excellent as it is could perhaps be 20% less, which would make it even more delicious.
Hotel was clean and staff courteous - nice place to stay
The hotel has a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The room was excellent and the staff couldn't have done anything better. If I was nitpicking I would ask for softer pillows!
Very nice hotel and room. Breakfast was lovely. Service was brilliant. Food in restaurant is very expensive with no alternative food for people without such an exquisute palete. There are three different address for the place and it took us a long time and many phone calls to find the right way. There should be a sign from the main road. There could also be blinds/or something like that, in the ground floor rooms so the windows can be open without people staring in. I also wanted to have a few treatments bit the treatment rooms were not open on the sunday or monday. If I had been told this on the saturday I would of had a treatment then. I was very dissapointed about that as that was the reason I chose this hotel. The shower in room 107 is very weak aswell.
Just around the corner from Waddesdon Manor, which has fantastic art and building, well worth visiting. Hotel is a lovely period building that used to be part of Waddesdon estate, well maintained. Lovely garden, sit and have drinks. Nice room and bathroom. Staff foreign and somewhat clueless but nice people. Restaurant has good food but looks like pub seating. Internet did not work.
Staff were helpful but not intrusive. Interior comfortable and gardens beautifully laid out.
Location, style and furnishings, size of room Booking process, hotel couldn't handle booking so had to make this via Active website. Although spoke to hotel and agreed which room would be allocated, this was not known on arrival - advised had been allocated a) twin (double agreed) b) not in main house (agreed would be in main house) c) room 5 (room 11 allocated). In the end allocated room agreed on phone but like drawing teeth. Pressurised to book dinner on arrival (at noon) without any invitation to view menu - we didn't in the end eat there. Said on 2 occasions on arrival that we would leave bag as we were 'visiting the House (ie Waddesdon Manor) and would therefore only need to have access to room after that. On accessing room and reading hotel details, found out that guests received free entry to the ground of the Manor, which would have saved us 10 pounds, but we weren't advised of this. Breakfast next day. Sat and waited for table to be dressed. No butter or preserves, had to get left over butter from next table. Preserves never arrived. Gave order to disinterested young girl. My order - scrambled eggs with bacon. Arrived - no bacon. Had to ask much older lady who delivered food for this. Then asked for mustard which not provided. When older lady delivered comment was 'well anything else' in a 'don't bother me again' attitude - didn't like to ask for preserves!! Orange juice had run out had to ask for this. Unshaven (and this not from me but my partner) lad also serving very offhand. Overall the hotel is lovely - reason I booked it was that I had arranged a corpoate event there 2 years ago for international racing people lunch and private view of Waddesdon Manor, so wanted to show this and the Manor to my partner, just a shame it was let down not by overall experience but a combination of little annoyances - eg bedside light not working. Why not have a checklist of setting a table and checking a room and tick each item off to ensure everything as it should be. Would recommend to others and stay again if in the area but such a shame to be let down. (Also noted that others at breakfast were asking for eg a glass, salt & pepper on other tables).
Attentive and friendly staff, delicious breakfast, charming room, good size bathroom, plenty of car parking and a nice garden/terrace to the rear of the hotel - highly recommended. It's not a criticism but would recommend a slightly larger bar area/lounge for pre-meal drinks and nightcaps!
Fantastic location for Waddesdon estate, hotel very clean and historic building. We had a room at the back which was great. Had a good welcome at the village church. First course of evening meal was not up to scratch. The staff were very helpful, friendly and made the stay enjoyable, but there seems to be a lack of overall management in the hotel as it lacked a bit of organisation.
Wonderful friendliness and helpfulness from all of the staff.
The hotel is very clean and tidy and the staff were polite and friendly, the bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was excellent with a choice of continental, cooked, or for a small supplement you could have kippers or smoked salmon. None
The room was a delight. Comfortable bed, crisp white bedlinen, well aired and nice view. Tastefully furnished and spacious. The window opened, always a good point for me and my Husband. Very good evening meal. Excellent choice of wines. Friendly and helpful staff. For a fried breakfast the bacon was thick and undercooked, the egg was lifeless and the tomatoes were dull and listless. The room we were in was near the kitchen fans. I would ask for a room in another part of the Hotel next time.
The room and the the choice of breakfast was excellent and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Waddesdon Manor and gardens are close by and well worth a visit
Freidnly staff, excellent food, very nice clean modern room My only minor gripe if there where no walk in shower or shower screen on freestanding bath. The one benefit was I had a really nice soak in the large bath.
The food was fantastic
Big clean rooms, large bathrooms with a wet room shower. Great food and a nice atmosphere.
Beautiful and quite just outside oxford with a bus stop almost every 30 minutes going into town.
the room had a musty smell. The staff were quite young and seemed inexperienced although helpful.Overpriced.
Staff friendly and helpful The food was of a poor standard and overpriced
Rooms are of good quality and clean, the restaurant was of very high standard both for evening meals and breakfasts. Even the dog was happy!
great service and food staff responsive and ensured we had all we needed nothing
Clean room friedly owner. its a BandB clear and simple..no frills, plain and simple. Not worth £95 per room.
Clean. Well lit. Pleasant staff. Good location for our needs. Few 'flat surfaces' in room - nowhere for a lady to get ready for an evening out (mirror, socket, table, chair not in proximity). Not even a shelf in the bathroom to put a toiletry bag! Breakfast certainly below what I'd expect for such a place - 'full English breakfast' wasn't close to 'full'.
Restaurant area is excellent fanily room above bar was very noisy until gone 1am - rooms in main annex would probably be excellent though
Wonderful service NO
Good Pub, Lively atmosphere, quiet accommodation Shower soak away
£40 per night bnb for two was good value for a small ensuite room. Good fry up for breakfast. Good parking. Comfy bed. Noisey. Very near train station and freight trains go all night. 18Th Party in marquee ended just after midnight but expected it to go on longer. Only Sugar Puffs for breakfast cereal, no muesli etc
Friendly staff, clean modern rooms No
Cleanliness of bed linen. Towels clean and white. shower that worked very well. good breakfast. walls in the room needed the cobwebs dusted off and the curtain could do with a wash.
A small but very clean room. They need someone like the hotel inspector to call and sort them out. A very poor quality breakfast served on white linen. Toast served on same plate with the breakfast. No fruit, poor choice of cereals. Carton of orange juice on table.
The staff were excellent. They were lovely to our daughter and made us feel very welcome.
Probably the most comfortable bed on earth, really peaceful surroundings, friendly kind staff, and not a bad pint either! Breakfast was nice, good service. Would definitely stay there again.
indian restaurant on site street light directly above skylight directly above bed
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the B&B is also a pub with good beer/ale selection so for dinner we ate in and the food was very good. Breakfast also good. Staff very helpful and courteous. Will stay there again. Easy 15-min. drive to the Park-and-Ride for frequent buses into Oxford. Well worth staying in the countryside. One comment only: Bit difficult finding the Inn as our GPS (Garmin 750 with up-to-date European maps) search did not find "Station Road" in Culham but we found the B&B using the GPS Lat/Long coordinates provided by the B&B in the Bookings.com advertisement - very clever. Nevertheless, a GPS is invaluable and a must when travelling in Britain! Using a conventional map to locate the B&B is not a problem.
Nothing in pareticular The building had been converted on a budget with poor quality finishes. Access was via a steep external staircase and over a flat roof with no guard rail to the low parapet. The final exit door was secured with a dead lock that needed a key to open from the inside. None of this complies with the current building regulations.
It was local to where I needed to be. Some of the staff were friendly. Other staff were a bit off specially at breakfast time. Guests had to make their own tea and coffee. I had to clean hair from the plugholes, in the basin and bathroom of our room.
Friendliness of staff. Excellent food. Catered very well with my husband's vegan diet.Varied menu. Lovely old building.Good geographical location for tourism.
Lovely quiet location, staff were very friendly, helpful & flexible. Good food which was nicely presented. I might suggest more choice for breakfast (such as fish, different types of cereals/ yogurt) although staff again were very accomodating and provided full English breakfast which was scrummy.
Friendly pub with good food in a lovely location. Excellent breakfast.
Good food and friendly and helpful staff
I stayed in the Chantry room - large, comfortable bed, proper linen and power shower. What more could you want? Straightforward, very nice inn with good beer in the bar and a good breakfast.
Secure parking The food.
It was very quiet and the food was tasty I thought the breakfast should have started earlier than 8am
The food was excellent. Church bell rang every fifteen minutes throughout the night! Room was very cold, even with the heating on! Chipped sink and a mixture of odd furniture in the room.
The food and friendliness of staff was excellent. The location was also very good for walking and exploring the nearby countryside. Not much to dislike really apart from some areas of the establishment looking a little tired, but this was more than made up for by the staff, food and surroundings.
Location to where l wanted to fish the room was very clean and the staff very helpful and the food was excellent. none
It is under refurbishment but the room we had was clean spacious and had a comfortable bed food and drink was a little expencive
everything it was great, staff we re very helpful they couldnt do enough food was excellent very nice rooms clean and fresh, power shower wow we just couldn't fault it and the price was excellent too nothing
helpful, friendly and made to feel comfortable.
Very friendly staff and we were very comfortable.
Friendly staff, good menu
When I complained about the rooms offered, there was sufficient space to allocate others which were slightly better. I would give a very low rating for the quality of this hotel. Certainly worse than it looks on the photos. It has a run down feel inside and out, and gives the impression of being uncared for. There was some work going on in the entrance to the hotel and it felt like entering a building site. None of the staff commented. In fact the staff, who were pleasant, seemed oblivious to the poor standard of accommodation and services.
I am a regular business traveller and enjoyed a recent stay here. Very friendly staff and atmosphere. A charming traditional country inn. Good food an ideal place to relax. Slightly noisy later on at night from the bar, but did not spoil the stay at all.
The congenial atmosphere
Friendly staff Room was a bit small
The Peacock was in a great location for me visiting family, The atmosphere was good and staff were great they couldn't do enough for you.Would use again and would recommend
