Very comfortable bed. Peaceful room. relaxing stay. Very cold bathroom, no radiator or heated towel rail. So-so staff. Tried to overcharge me be £100 and when this was pointed out, were not particularly apologetic or concerned.
The intimate bar area, the bedroom (which was one of the traditional rooms with oak beams) The fact that the staff were happy to arrange a breakfast at 0330am due to the fact that we needed to leave early.
We liked the historical atmosphere and setting of The Crown and the authenticity of its refurbishment. The whole building has tremendous character.
The room was excellent. Breakfast was a shambles, staff were unable to cope with demand and hence service was pretty appalling.

Just around the corner from Waddesdon Manor, which has fantastic art and building, well worth visiting. Hotel is a lovely period building that used to be part of Waddesdon estate, well maintained. Lovely garden, sit and have drinks. Nice room and bathroom. Staff foreign and somewhat clueless but nice people. Restaurant has good food but looks like pub seating. Internet did not work.
The room and the the choice of breakfast was excellent and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Waddesdon Manor and gardens are close by and well worth a visit

Attentive and friendly staff, delicious breakfast, charming room, good size bathroom, plenty of car parking and a nice garden/terrace to the rear of the hotel - highly recommended. It's not a criticism but would recommend a slightly larger bar area/lounge for pre-meal drinks and nightcaps!
Location, style and furnishings, size of room Booking process, hotel couldn't handle booking so had to make this via Active website. Although spoke to hotel and agreed which room would be allocated, this was not known on arrival - advised had been allocated a) twin (double agreed) b) not in main house (agreed would be in main house) c) room 5 (room 11 allocated). In the end allocated room agreed on phone but like drawing teeth. Pressurised to book dinner on arrival (at noon) without any invitation to view menu - we didn't in the end eat there. Said on 2 occasions on arrival that we would leave bag as we were 'visiting the House (ie Waddesdon Manor) and would therefore only need to have access to room after that. On accessing room and reading hotel details, found out that guests received free entry to the ground of the Manor, which would have saved us 10 pounds, but we weren't advised of this. Breakfast next day. Sat and waited for table to be dressed. No butter or preserves, had to get left over butter from next table. Preserves never arrived. Gave order to disinterested young girl. My order - scrambled eggs with bacon. Arrived - no bacon. Had to ask much older lady who delivered food for this. Then asked for mustard which not provided. When older lady delivered comment was 'well anything else' in a 'don't bother me again' attitude - didn't like to ask for preserves!! Orange juice had run out had to ask for this. Unshaven (and this not from me but my partner) lad also serving very offhand. Overall the hotel is lovely - reason I booked it was that I had arranged a corpoate event there 2 years ago for international racing people lunch and private view of Waddesdon Manor, so wanted to show this and the Manor to my partner, just a shame it was let down not by overall experience but a combination of little annoyances - eg bedside light not working. Why not have a checklist of setting a table and checking a room and tick each item off to ensure everything as it should be. Would recommend to others and stay again if in the area but such a shame to be let down. (Also noted that others at breakfast were asking for eg a glass, salt & pepper on other tables).
Fantastic location for Waddesdon estate, hotel very clean and historic building. We had a room at the back which was great. Had a good welcome at the village church. First course of evening meal was not up to scratch. The staff were very helpful, friendly and made the stay enjoyable, but there seems to be a lack of overall management in the hotel as it lacked a bit of organisation.

The hotel is very clean and tidy and the staff were polite and friendly, the bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was excellent with a choice of continental, cooked, or for a small supplement you could have kippers or smoked salmon. None
The room was a delight. Comfortable bed, crisp white bedlinen, well aired and nice view. Tastefully furnished and spacious. The window opened, always a good point for me and my Husband. Very good evening meal. Excellent choice of wines. Friendly and helpful staff. For a fried breakfast the bacon was thick and undercooked, the egg was lifeless and the tomatoes were dull and listless. The room we were in was near the kitchen fans. I would ask for a room in another part of the Hotel next time.
The rooms are very nice, clean, facilities good. Bright and airy, plenty of parking. No problems what so ever!!!! Breakfast could be worked on....slightly unorganised...but ok.
Friendly and helpful staff
The location was good for Dunstable and the surrounding area, security cameras gave confidence that the car parking facilities were safe. The hotel fire escape doors at the rear of the building were often left open, this did not give confidence that access to the rooms was restricted to guests only, poor security.
Price, cleanliness of room and quality of breakfast served Receptionist stood outside the hotel smoking! Only 4 channels available on tv
Receptionist was really helpfull, organisied taxi for early in the morning and iron & iron board so that I could press my clothes Bar stuff unhelpfull- arrived at 9,02pm but while they had food on Display I was told the kitchen was closed. Best offer was to ring a "take-away"!!!!!!!!!!

Close proximity to meeting the next day. Arrived too late to have dinner, not offered any other food as substitute. Had 1/2" thick pillow & told no other additional pillows available. Room so small it was like sleeping in a cupboard. Breakfast cooked all at once so fried eggs looked as if kept warm for the previous 2 hours - asked for a fresh egg to be cooked but told that was not possible. My stay was altogether a bad experience.
Standard of room for price paid, ease of parking and access. Simple booking in procedures and also check out. Standard of catering at breakfast and dinner was not as good as when I stayed before.Prefer buffet breakfast although service staff were very giood
Upon arrival, the hotel had not booked the correct number of rooms for my party. They admitted this was due to an internal administrative error (not related to www.booking.com). After a 10 minute wait in reception they managed to find a spare room which we could utilise. However, just after midnight, a woman let herself into this room where one of my party was asleep in bed insisting it was her room. My friend attempted to call reception to try and sort the matter out but there was no response. When this matter was raised with reception the following morning, no explanation was offered and we received no apology.
Friendly staff Room was a bit small
When I complained about the rooms offered, there was sufficient space to allocate others which were slightly better. I would give a very low rating for the quality of this hotel. Certainly worse than it looks on the photos. It has a run down feel inside and out, and gives the impression of being uncared for. There was some work going on in the entrance to the hotel and it felt like entering a building site. None of the staff commented. In fact the staff, who were pleasant, seemed oblivious to the poor standard of accommodation and services.
It is under refurbishment but the room we had was clean spacious and had a comfortable bed food and drink was a little expencive
I am a regular business traveller and enjoyed a recent stay here. Very friendly staff and atmosphere. A charming traditional country inn. Good food an ideal place to relax. Slightly noisy later on at night from the bar, but did not spoil the stay at all.
