El Tovar - Inside the Park - Grand Canyon Village - Building

8.8 Excellent (588 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at El Tovar - Inside the Park in Grand Canyon, you'll be in a national park, just steps from Hopi House and 6 minutes by foot from Bright Angel Lodge. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
6.2 Good
Pros: Lobby very nice. . Obviously Location is great.
Cons: Room was tiny (standard queen room). Barely enough room for luggage. Bathroom redone and nice but no shelf or anywhere for toiletries. Internet was so very slow could barely open a website on browser. Restaurant Is so overpriced for what one gets. My porkshops were $25 and were so dry and over cooked I could not eat them. I understand supply and demand.. but for $263 dollars a night they could have provided a much better stay.occupancy must be close to 100% year round so they should be flush with cash. I would not stay there again.

When you stay at Bright Angel Lodge - Inside the Park in Grand Canyon, you'll be in the historical district, within a 15-minute walk of Hopi House and Bright Angel Lodge. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: location, cleanness, cute style.
Cons: no tv, no wi-fi.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great. And the staff was very kind and helpful to make the most of my short stay there.
Cons: There was no fitted bed sheet which was a little off putting. Also the doors weren't sound proof so was quite loud being next to an exterior door hearing people pass in and out.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to the rim, with some cabins right on the rim. Great price for location.
Cons: Cabin furnishings and bedding are pretty dated - but seemed clean enough. The location is what makes this place.

Pros: Hotel Staff was very helpful and considerate
Cons: Hotel.com was terrible...messed up both my reservations.
2.0 Mediocre
Cons: We could not stay at this hotel due to roads being closed and no unnessary travel due to the winter storm warning and the snow totals. It was not safe to travel with our young kids. I was hoping to get our money refunded (151.00) due to having to cancel our reservation due to circumstances that were out of our control (weather) we traveled from New York and were so sad to have to cancel our trip to the Grand Canyon :-(
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Location. Friendly people. Indoor pool.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was new and plush. Staff were nice. High end for a remote location. Very close to GC south rim.
Cons: TV remote did not perform.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was great! It was very close to the Grand Canyon. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions about the park. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was nice, clean, and provided a good experience for our family. The lobby decor was nice and gave you a fancy feel and my son loves all of the animal heads.
Cons: What we did not like was the restaurant and bar at the hotel. The restaurant was mediocre at best from the food to the service. The waif for just the meal was about an hour. The staff did not pay attention very well. We went to the restaurant and the wait was about an hour and a half and there were a lot of empty tables I counted at least 7 or more. Then when our drink order was taken the waiter only took one drink order and left. When he came back we finally got to order our other two drinks. Also we asked for straws and the waitress came back with one straw when they delivered 3 drinks. When we ordered our food three of us ordered meals but only one meal came out. We wanted to ask the waitstaff where the rest of our food was but they never came to check on us. Finally after waiting for another 30 minutes we decided to close out our tab. I had to got to the bar to get some service and the waiter just handed me the bill without saying a word or asking any questions, or even explaining what happened to the rest of our food order. To put us kindly I will joy be visiting the restaurant there again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable rooms, nice restaurant. Only complaint was the heater in our room ran hot or cold, thermastat must be messed up.
4.2 Okay
Pros: I travel for a living and walked in hotels and restaurants for 15 years. We had a pretty good night stay the first night and upon coming back from the canyon afternoon raising sunrise, we were informed that they gave our room away for the night. They were completely unapologetic and simply told us "we're sold out". The woman we have been dealing with had no explanation as to why we had nowhere to stay that night all of a sudden. When we asked to speak to the manager, we encountered the single worst service industry employee I've ever met my life. She was rude, uninformed and had zero training in how to provide good service to customers paying a lot of money and also how to manage a staff of service industry employees.Run for your lives from this hotel!

Pros: great location, close to the grand canyon
Cons: parking lot was completely full, at 8pm on a Wednesday!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent value. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Good amenities.
Cons: None
6.5 Good
Pros: Location and rooms
Cons: We asked for some tea bags and the front desk flatly refused by saying they were very busy to send anybody to the room! Never heard this before in my life.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Immediately when walking in the door, staff was so friendly and gave us a free upgrade. The rooms were gorgeous, specious, and clean. We couldn't have asked for better when looking for a place to stay last minute for a really great price. Would definitely recommend!
Cons: The only downside to this stay was the hot tub. There were so many bubbles that were brown with visible dirt and hair on top of the bubbles. Not a deal breaker, but made me question the cleanliness of the hot tub.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious and clean. Nice staff and facilities.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Spacious brand new room, attentive front desk staff, excellent location for exploring Grand Canyon. Housekeeping managed to accidentally skip the room twice, but were happy to let us pick up items as needed, such as coffee etc.
4.0 Okay
Cons: The cover sheet had blood on it and when I took it off the next blanket had a yellow pee spot. I called the front desk to request a new blanket and was given a thin fleece blanket with 2 hair balls. Will never stay here again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was very nicely appointed, the room (upgraded to deluxe double queen room) was large, and the beds were super-comfortable. We stayed in the 7000 building. There were in-room Keurig coffee makers. The staff was extremely accommodating when we asked for extra K-cups. We had breakfast at the dining room near the front desk. The coffee there was superb. We only stayed one night, but I would stay there again, in spite of the thin walls, if I got another deal like the one I found on Kayak.com.
Cons: The walls are very thin. You can hear people going up and down the hallway, as well as the people in the upper room. The bathroom had a vent that led directly from the bathroom upstairs, so you could hear people talking. The bathroom door had a frosted glass insert that lit up the entire room if you turned the light on in there during the night.
6.2 Good
Pros: Very close to the Grand Canyon park entrance.

Pros: Location
Cons: Cost, small room
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great. They are doing some construction adding 2 new pools, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor. Very nice rooms and amenities.
Cons: The only thing I really didn't like was they didn't have anything saying that they didn't have a pool. The kids were looking forward to swimming.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel was clean and quiet. They have a very large complex with a decent amount of parking. There are plenty of places to eat and they have a nice gift store. Would definitely choose this hotel again.
Cons: Breakfast buffet was a little over priced. Parking was sometimes far from room

Cons: The heater was a little noisey, but worked okay.

7.1 Good
Pros: The location/proximity to the Grand Canyon is perfect. And there is plenty within walking distance. The breakfast (and breakfast staff) was also excellent.

Pros: The staff at morning breakfast was AMAZING! so hospitable and friendly. It was a great way to start the morning. The hotel also gave us great maps that we used, especially the grand canyon map.

9.7 Excellent
Pros: Was part of a group that went to hike the Grand Canyon. This hotel is conveniently located and near the canyon. Staff was friendly. Good breakfast and friendly pancake makers. It may seem a bit pricey, but not more than others when compared to the other hotels in town.
5.4 Okay
Cons: Internet service was terrible. Couldn't even connect to the Wi-Fi until 6 a'm. Hôtel had a letter explaining there is terrible internet service, but that didn't stop them from claiming to provide it before I booked the room.

5.7 Okay
Pros: Inside the park.
Cons: other people entered our room in the middle of the night while we were sleeping. This was quite disconcerting and unacceptable. Apparently DNC had double booked the room. They have tried to make up for it, but it should have never happened.

8.2 Excellent
Cons: The booking agency, bookit.com
5.4 Okay
Pros: Great location.
Cons: Room wasn't ready until several hours AFTER listed check-in time because management had not staffed the cleaning crew properly. Management offered NOTHING to compensate. Food is awful and expensive ($15 for buffet that only featured powdered eggs) We wouldn't stay here again until new ownership/management.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: For a hotel "in the park," it was reasonably priced and very convenient. I was also pleasantly surprised at how nice it was inside the room. It was not just "state park" basic, but definitely a step up. Breakfast was included in our rate, and it was easy.
Cons: If I had known how nice it would have been to be on the rim, I would have kept trying for a room in one of the hotels there and been willing to pay more for it too.

Informational - Close to local information and insight from park employees. Gift Shop - the gift shop is full of offerings at a reasonable price.

Cons: Hard to find in park as they were redoing a lot of the roads. Needed more signs.

Pros: It's hard to beat the location as it is super close to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. There are also a lot of food options at the lodge but it is all basic and nothing fancy.
Cons: The beds are not comfortable at all and the rooms are very small. It is a little over priced for what you get but you are mainly paying for location.

Pros: I love how they were so clean and eco friendly.breathtaking view and lots of animal life too. Everyone takes very good care of this great park
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to the south rim
6.8 Good
Pros: We loved the proximity of the lodge to the Grand Canyon. It was a very quick walk to and from as well as a beautiful one at night. The staff was also very kind and helpful.
Cons: The actual comfort of the beds was poor. They’re older, very firm, and the pillows were difficult to sleep comfortably on as well. Not a great nights sleep but it was only for one night. More than one night sleeping there would be tough for me personally.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Close to Grand Canyon
Cons: Outdated everything! For the price it was a very poor room. Carpet was dirty and worn. Room needed a total makeover. None of the above descriptors fit this room. I picked family as it would be the best fit.

9.4 Excellent
Pros: I came into the area with a camping permit, but was too late and there was a thunderstorm. Thankfully this hotel had a room. The staff were all super friendly and more than willing to help me if I needed anything. Room was comfortable and it was fairly quiet, maybe because it was the end of August. I am sure that during the busier times the bar and lounce area are great places.
Cons: The buffet of food was just so so. Nothing was especially good. Probably would order off the menu directly next time.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Shuttle service
Cons: Mattress need to be changed
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Restaurant on site was convenient.
Cons: Difficult to find in the dark when first arrived
6.0 Good
Cons: I get that it's a tourist area but $200+ for a standard room is insane, I could have found cheaper rooms in downtown Las Vegas.
7.7 Good
Pros: The room was fine. This a not a high end hotel but met our requirements for the night - clean, comfortable bed.. Not far from the Park. Friendly, courteous staff at the hotel.
Cons: It was behind another building so a little hard to find.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great stay. The staff was helpful and polite. The room was in good shape. The breakfast buffet was tasty with good variety. We will definitely return.
Cons: Very smoky during a prescribed burn in the forest. This was certainly not the fault of the staff, but there surely must be a mechanism to warn of such events. Aside from direct exposure to a campfire, none of the four of us had previously been exposed to that much smoke inhalation. We are all in good health, but we all suffered from the smoke exposure; eg, watery eyes, sneezing, throat irritation. It was still a positive experience.
7.1 Good
Pros: Facilities were nice rooms comfortable.
Cons: Back yard view very untidy, bright outside lights switched on all night and towels were switched every day even when not necessary. There should be more of an emphasis on saving resources in this location.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Everything was good, including the restaurant on site.
Cons: Expensive for what it is.
3.1 Mediocre
Cons: The room is not clean found a dirty socks on the floor . The bed is uncomfortable , the pillows is old too flat. The pillow cases all worn out with stains and holes. The bathroom door knob lock is outside not inside the bathroom. There are stiill open salad dressing in the fridged meaning it was not cleaned . I’ve never beeb in a hotel like that.
3.4 Mediocre
Pros: Location.
Cons: Run down facility. Unfriendly and unhelpful staff. Even TV was not working properly. Restaurant mediocre. Parking scarce at night. No concierge was available. Expensive for what it is.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: just a few minutes from the Grand Canyon with plenty of adequate restaurants, convenience shops within walking distance. Staff very helpful and friendly. Indoor "spa" aka hot tub, was fun b/c it was in the middle of the lobby with greenery all around. Breakfast buffet was good for the price ($12?). Beds comfortable, linen soft, rooms clean. We booked for Easter weekend only 2 weeks before and grateful to get a place to stay.
6.0 Good
Pros: The location was perfect for an EARLY departure to hike the Canyon.
Cons: The refrigerator ran, but didn't work. We were too pressed for time to sweat it. The TV didn't have a signal, which we were told has to routinely have to be reset.

Guests looking for a traditional stay in Grand Canyon National Park can find what they want at Yavapai Lodge East and West. The main Lodge lobby is located right in the heart of Market Plaza, where guests can register and get directions to their room on the beautiful south rim of the Grand Canyon. The lodge rooms are minutes from the town market and post office, but miles away from it all on the edge of the Canyon. The main lodge includes an outdoor patio and cozy seating areas to relax and unwind, as well as a full-service restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Yavapai Lodge East features six two-story buildings, including the newest rooms with modern amenities. All these rooms include air conditioning, and a number of the rooms are ADA accessible. The East rooms are not pet-friendly, but there are pet-friendly accommodations available at the Yavapai West buildings. There are also universal and Tesla-specific charging stations at building 1 of this lodge. Yavapai Lodge offers standard and family guest rooms that include modern conveniences like microwaves and refrigerators. There are additional electric charging stations at the hotel lobby, where guests can also get assistance planning and booking activities and events around the Grand Canyon. Hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, and other outdoor activities are plentiful. Guests can also enjoy camping in the canyon, and kids will have fun with the Junior Ranger Program offered by the park service.
5.1 Okay
Pros: it was located on the property.
Cons: it was not an over $200 a night hotel . the food was horrible.the price for everything was double the price
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the location of the lodge. Transportation throughout the park was easily accessible. The rooms were comfortable and clean, not over the top. The food at the restaurant was very good. The coffee was some of the best I've ever had!
Cons: We arrived at 3 pm hoping to check in, unpack our bags and go do a little sightseeing before dark. That didn't happen. I was told to come back in 45 minutes and then put off several more times before finally getting in our room at 6 pm. It was disappointing because we were wanting to go see the sunset and didn't get to because I was waiting in the lobby for housekeeping to get the room clean. I feel as though they should keep enough staff on site to get the rooms clean so guests can get into their rooms at the proper time.
4.8 Okay
Pros: The location was perfect. Just down street from visitor center
Cons: Dirty. Coffee mugs were dirty. They didn’t refill our coffee packs for next morning. Towels were rough & old on skin. Beds were uncomfortable, old & worn down with a slope. Food was cafeteria style, no vegetarian options but expensive. TV was difficult to figure out, no guide, no movies. No internet reception in room. It was a difficult two nights of staying there.
