The surroundings and the standard of the suite made the stay very relaxing and enjoyable. Nothing
I didn't stay at this hotel myself but booked it for my parents. They were over the moon with the hotel, so much so that we are thinking of booking the hotel for the whole family for my dads 50th in November.
The swimming pool/spa is well kept and clean, the views from the rooms over the golf course are fantastic, the breakfast was good quality and with a good choice of hot and cold food. You pay for what you get though, worth the room rate it if you want a quality experience.
Nice and clean hotel in a beautiful countryside setting. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. There was also a problem with a change of date with my initial booking whereby I got charged for a night which was cancelled, but both the the hotel and booking.com sorted it out quickly. Food at the restaurant was good, though I was disappointed that the children's menu did not match the adults', i.e. mash potato was made from powder and sausages were not as good quality as you would have expected.
The comfort of the room and the stunning views from my window The bar was very bland
Friendly staff & amazing swimming pool
Comfort, space and views
it was our 25th anniversary and we enjoyed the whole experience, we have recommended the hotel to all our friends and family.
Cleanliness My request for a quiet room was accomodated (away from potentially noisier guests) Lovely soft, large towels and good quality bedlinen Good quality bathroom products and hairdrier Space, light and tasteful decor in bedroom and elsewhere Comfort and size of bed - very good supportive mattress Good security (swipe card to access corridor to bedroom) Very efficient room service Bottled water and nbeverage making facilities in bedroom Pleasant friendly staff None really, although no soya milk available - a lot of folk request this these days.
It is one of the nicest and friendliest hotels that we have stayed in. Although it was not particularly cheap, we thought that it gave great value for money. The roo was super and it is so nice to have the extra items such as tea and biscuits, iron, trouser press etc.
Great food, friendly staff and very clean and comfortable room. Will use again Nothing
room clean and comfortable difficult to get to without a car spent a lot of money on taxis
clean and tidy nice meals friendly staff
The staff were fantastic but the situation may change as most are leaving to go to another hotel. No.
convenience, friendly staff, ease of parking and proximity of car park to inn. Food was very good. we had a pleasant stay. Traffic noise at night very bad. Shower in bathroom unusable-tied up with sticky tape.
Friendly bar staff, size of rooms & bathrooms Next to a very noisy dual carriageway. Wireless internet connection was weak and patchy.
We liked the staff who were friendly, helpful and ironic in a good way. The nearby road, the nescafe for breakfast!!!
Excellent staff and good food
Convenient location, clean and comfortable I have been overcharged, £59, instead of the advertised £49
The convenience of the location and easy parking The room wasn't spotlessly clean heated towel rail didn't work
Tired looking hotel, requires renovation. Room backed onto noisy service yard.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was not overheated and was easy to ventilate. The shower needed some attention. The breakfast order was slow coming because it was not written down as we ordered, and some unwanted items were served.
A good menu range. There was no where comfortable to sit and relax and enjoy a pint, the whole hotel seems to be geared for food service
location to business appointment the room had flies (4) and ladybirds which had to be disposed of for peace and quiet (once the lights were out. The "builders" below were noisy (doors repeatedly banging) and swearing and loud voices could be easily heard until late (11pm)
Good Basic room, big bar and very nice cooked breakfast Mattress pretty uncomfortable as springs coming through (room 3)
I stay at about 3 different hotels per week around the UK. I have stayed here over the past 18 months, and sadly the standards have gone down over this time.
The congeniality of the staff. The tea used was very bad Irish Breakfast Tea and not enough milk supplied to the rooms.
Good breakfasts - good servicing of room No
The room was comfortable and breakfast was good. A young lad who was on reception when we arrived said he would call us a taxi. When we came down to reception at the arranged time he said he hadn't been able to book one. It would have Been nice if he had called us in our room and told us that.
Stayed here 2 nights made us very comfortable we got back late one night and they still managed to make us a lovely meal the young girl behind the bar was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast in the morning was lovely and the price is very reasonable. It's a bit out in the sticks we found it difficult to get to other places.
The atmosphere, relaxed but efficient
The room was excellent - contemporary decor, plasma T.V., comfy bed, loads of space, beautiful en-suite. Lovely fresh continental breakfast. Although the food at breakfast was very good, the service was not. It was very disorganised and the staff did not seem to know what they should be doing or how to speed things up. It took 15 minutes to get our coffee and we had finished eating by then.
The garden, which was a highlight, the decor and the comfort of the bed itself. My friend had a smaller room than expected and her shower was too hot - even with running cold at maximum. We reported this.
Very central location. Stunning building and views from dining/breakfast room. Good breakfast. Very helpful staff Lots of stair noise from my room due to uncarpeted staircase. Room small with little space for clothes. Very expensive for what I got.
The decor and art works were fantastic and the room was extremely comfortable - liked the simplicity
Friendlyness of staff. Wonderful building. Informality and wonderful breakfast. Attention to detail. Room in the eves
Friendly receptionist.Good comfy bed and excellent breakfast chef!
Good central location in Lewes. Hotel housed in a lovely old building that has been sympathatically restored, bedrooms and bathrooms well designed and comfortable. Breakfast excellent. Staff friendly and helpful, overall a calm and comfortable place to stay. Nice garden although I didn't go into it as it was raining.
Courtesy, enthusiasm and professionalism of the young (and old!) staff. Excellent food in convivial and cosy surroundings. Our standard double room was a little quirky but fun and welcoming, good bed. Perfectly placed just off Lewse'charming high street. We will be back. Leaving.
Excellent room Pleasant and efficient service Breakfast could be better - pots of tea and coffee
near to town comfortable room generally tired decorative order no selection of fruit at breakfast
the location was ideal for us to get to the wedding reception we were attending. some of the decor in both the common areas and hotel room we stayed in need some updating, signs of wear and tear.
convenience of location, friendly staff Food a bit mixed in quality
Parking was convenient and easy to use. The food was reasonably priced and the restaurant was friendly and efficient. The jacuzzi water was quite cool. The spa had problems with the shower on the men's side.
Quite a reasonable breakfast, lovely setting in the heart of Lewes Sadly the room was pretty small, with mildew or mould around the bath. Although not directly connected to the hotel there was an ongoing unsociable disturbance in the main street that went on until at least 1.30. It would be in the hotels commercial interest to have these gatherings move on or kept to a minimum.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the beds and bathroom spotless ,breakfast excellent and the public rooms very interesting with gorgeous woodwork and panelling..the site is perfect for the station and lovely high st and castle We stayed in the annex which made use of the pool etc a little inconvenient and sorry for one complaint... Our bedroom carpet really needs replacing! We don't mind old fa. shioned decor but I think that new kettles and maybe tv would be a good investment and money spent on the spa which is rather shabby
Bare lightbulbs in my room! Trickle of a shower. With the exception of the pool /gym area, much of the hotel appeared shabby
Location Needs total updating!
The helpful staff, excellent food, lovely pool and excellent location. Good parking. The hotel badly needs upgrading. Decor and carpets in the annex need attention.
It's a beautiful old builidng right in the centre of town - dining room charminng - and breakfast good Felt a bit dusty and tired - very uneven and creaky floor in my room.
Nice staff, lovely location, good food. Erratic service,no food available Sunday evening.
Staff were friendly and service good if a bit fragmented. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast very good - but seeing Marco's caricature every where, I expected it to be. Room was a bit 'shabby', grouting in bathroom black and iron burns on carpet. I think we were probably in one of the older rooms not featured on the website.
The room was lovely There was no vegetarian option on the menu and the service was poor. We recived differnet information to other guests. We were disturbed frequently durng the night by very loud guests and by staff
unpretentious with very attentive staff
Our room was very nice I felt the staff were all very young and inexperienced, a little ineffective
Comfotable room and friendly, helpful staff Room was rather too warm during the night and the floorboards were very squeaky. It would have been helpful to us if breakfast had been served earlier than 8am on Saturdays as we had to leave for Gatwick without breakfast.
The hotel was cosy and comfortable with a pleasant ambiance. The garden was well maintained.
Only a one night stay, but ticked every box for my brief stay, rooms comfortable and clean and Sunday morning breakfast good.
Very comfortable hotel and garden beautiful. One lady inparticular (blonde hair) serving us who was excellent. Room was too hot - I didn't sleep well at all because of this. We asked for one of the dishes to be served with mashed potato instead of pureed swede to be told quite abruptly by the young girl working after she spoke to the chef 'you have to stick to the menu'. There was mash on a number of other dishes so don't see why that was an issue...
Our stay was on a B&B basis. We needed to check in before the alloted 2pm check-in time. The staff could not have been more helpful. We arrived at 1pm and our room was ready and spotless. It was comfortable and clean. TV,Tea,Coffee and bottled water were all provided free of charge. The staff were extremely friendly welcoming and helpful, often asking if we were enjoying our stay, and making good local conversation. The breakfast we had was good although it was left to us to ask for what we wanted included. The full choice of available content was not made clear to us whilst it was to others who came after us. We think it was just a mistake. The price of our room was very competitive. Whilst only there for one night there was nothing we didn't enjoy about our stay at The Chequers.
Convenient,. The hotel felt like it needed a good clean, although the bedroom was better. The hotel had a smell of fat which was off-putting.staff were not as accommodating as we would have liked.
My boyfriend like the breakfast, i did not have any. The bathroom window would not shut and it would be easy for someone to get into our room.
good location, friendly staff Cold rooms, a little smelly, not too clean - but a good basic hotel
The staff were friendly and helpful. As stated the room needed a good cleaning
Very friendly staff, clean rooms. Hotel requires extensive work and all rooms require redecoration. I also noted that the plumbing and electrics need attention. Some of the furnishings are outdated.
Friendly staff and nice comfortable room.
the hotel was beautiful in a beautiful setting, great rooms. Our breakfasts service was diabolical , there was no food left, staff were rude, and even when we complained they took 45 mins to bring our breakfast and there was nothing left on the buffet . We complained further and so we didnt have to pay, but we would have preferred to pay and have a decent breakfast .
rooms were excellent staff very helpful gym was far to small and needs air conditioning
The quality & friendlness of the staff; also the food & wine were at times unbeatable.
All staff were obliging and friendly Having been given a time for dinner which we attended on time, it was over an hour later than that, before we were offered a menu!!!
Excellent the food especailly
The waiter who served tea and generally looked after us, Rob was a credit to the hotel. He was clearly passionate about what he did and it was reflected in the service we received from him. The quality of food served at the hotel was very good and the cooked breakfast was impressive. The decor of the hotel was very disappointing. It was neither country house or modern chic. The reception rooms with their fabulous architecture were reduced to looking like something suited to a retirement home with over a dozen stained identical winged chairs. The bedroom was pretty boring, and didn't live up to expectation. The photo of the bedroom on the bookings.com website which was listed as an executive room, and which we booked on that basis, was in fact one of the suites, so we were disappointed when we saw the room we were actually staying in.
Beautiful house in beautiful surroundings Tables too close together in the restaurant
food was excellent, staff were polite and very helpfull room 16 i found cramped
Reception staff were friendly and efficient Bedroom was v small. Bar was soul-less and rather institutional - a missed opportunity in such a potentially magnificent room. It was also too noisy from a next-door wedding reception. Hotel guests should be able to escape this sort of event if they wish but all the remaining public rooms were about as inspiring as an airport lounge - another missed opportunity. Someone should have a good look at the furniture (too much of it) and fittings and try to make all the public rooms more intimate and welcoming.
