Set in a 17th-century building on the canal of Palazzo Ducale and 2 minutes’ walk from St. Mark’s Square, All’Angelo Art Hotel is in the heart of Venice. WiFi throughout is free. The spacious rooms at All’Angelo Art Hotel are elegantly furnished and come with a satellite flat-screen TV, a marble bathroom and air conditioning. Paintings by Matisse, Braque, Vedova and San Tommaso can be admired in public areas and in some rooms. A buffet breakfast is served daily and includes homemade cakes and pastries. Pros:The location... the only good thing about this hotel.
Cons:The hotel is a place that has given up... it has an updated lobby but beyond that it is falling apart. The room smelled bad. The carpet was thin and worn. The TV was broken. The furniture was badly damaged. There were large oil marks on the fabric headboards from people leaning their heads against it over time. There was a significant mold growth in the bathroom, about a square foot in total. It was cleaned by housekeeping when I pointed it out but it was not spoken of again. The hotel was not cheap and judging by the long faces at the breakfast buffet I was not the only one disappointed to find it well below its 4 star rating. Everyone wants to stay someplace clean, this fails to meet this most basic of requirements.
