Herdade Ribeira de Borba - Vila Viçosa - Bedroom

9.5 Excellent (214 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice rooms, super friendly and helpful staff Amazing location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything about this place. Very comfortable beds (big) and room (quiet) with two communicating rooms. Just perfect for a family: we traveled with two kids of 4 and 6. The pool was very handy for small children with an undeep part. We also loved the food that was served - straight from their biological garden. Staff was extremely friendly.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stayed at the Casa da Azenha, an isolated two-floor house with a jacuzzi on the front porch, XXL bathtub, giant bed... it was perfect for a romantic getaway. Not all the rooms are that isolated and the two main pools were a bit too crowded with screaming children and roudy adults, but we’re talking about a full-house long summer weekend. The staff were extremely helpful and willing to go the distance to make us feel welcome.
Cons: Nothing worth noting.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing, with the option of receiving it in your room or go to the guest lounge. The entire property is a small nirvana where you can enjoy nature, relax and get a really nice tan! We utterly enjoyed it and we will go back!
Cons: Nothing to point out.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Bungalow was amazing. Due to the round disposition is hard in photos to understand how really big it is. It has a very good area, AC, bathroom, deck, etc. The bed is really large and confortable. The bungalows are really close to the meal area and swimming pool. The property has two swimming pools in total, which is very good! I didn’t knew about the possibility for ordering meals and dinners in the property. The meals are very reasonably priced for the dinner (they have to be ordered until 16h in the afternoon). In the morning during breakfast you can ask Dona Deolinda what the daily meal is and order it. For lunch you can ask anytime for a light meal, toasts, salads, sandwiches etc and eat it near the pool or in the restaurant. A huge shout out to Dona Antónia, who manages the property and guests and who is a beautiful person and made us feel very welcome.
Cons: I have nothing bad to say, but would love the breakfast to have more regional products such as jams and etc in order to have a better experience of alentejo :)

Pros: The owners were very nice, the hospitality was perfect, and there was a lot of mutual space in the house and around the swimming pool...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a very pleasant stay. The swimming pool was nice and also the room we had (near the swimming pool) was cosy and clean. The man of the house was very friendly! We recommend this place if you want to stay in the Alentejo region!
Cons: The shower was a bit small but it didn’t border us!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a fabulous stay. The host Alberto was very welcoming and he made sure that we had the best room and we were very comfortable. He gave a tour of his beautiful guesthouse and helped us make an itinerary for our visit to the area. The rooms are very individually furnished with a selection of his fantastic art collection. Gloria, the cook made an incredible spread of local delicacies for breakfast including fresh fruits and juices, homemade jams, eggs and a selection of cheeses and more. We will certainly return when we are in the area again. Loved every bit of our stay in spite of the unusual cold weather. Thank you Alberto!!
Cons: Nothing at all!

Pros: Absolutely wonderful hosts, the best we had during our trip. They provided such a great welcome, we couldn't ask for more. Loved the peace and quiet of the rural setting, still by car it's just a short drive to sights in the neighborhood and good places to eat. We enjoyed the swimming pool and adored the family dog. Highly recommended.

Pros: Very warm welcome by Isabel and her husband (and their lovely dog). Also during our stay, the hosts were extremely helpful and kind. We even got a private concert on guitar!!! Excellent breakfast. Very clean and spacious room. Nice swimming pool.
Cons: Nothing at all!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely everything was fantastic! The hosts are the cherries on top of the big and perfectly clean room, a delicious breakfast and all the peace and quiet you need to really relax. Isabel and Adelino are truly wonderful people you can count on to help you out with the best places around to eat and visit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were amazing and also the gardens were something special! We enjoyed the breakfast very much and also had a night of playing pool in the sala de jogos. Unfortunately my travel partner got a little bit sick but Isabel immediately offered some medicine so we wouldn't have to go to the pharmacy. She really went the extra mile with everything and also showed us around on the property. The shower was amazing. AAAAAnd also we fell in love with the amazing house dog who greeted us every morning and accompanied us to breakfast :)
Cons: The room was a little bit dark and chilly. That would not usually be a problem but we were unlucky with the weather and got a little bit sick so we spent more time in the room than we normaly would. Still recommend it to everyone in this area!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very warm, friendly owners, they have great recommendations for restaurants and day trips. Breakfast is wonderful, many homemade items. Rooms are spacious and extremely clean. We stayed 4 nights, could have stayed longer, the location is great for trips to Evora, Elvas etcwondee

Pros: The hosts Jos and Marianne were super friendly and made us welcome like we were staying in our home. Always giving us suggestions about places to have lunch/dinner which helped us a lot. The breakfast was really good and the hosts prepared some goodies for the guests like dutch apple pie which was so good!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location and silence. Peaceful.
Cons: The road.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a beautiful place to stay, the pool was the nicest we have experienced with a wonderful setting. Rooms were comfortable and cool with underfloor cooling and fans rather than air con (so quiet). The outdoor kitchen was really handy to prepare our own evening meals if we wanted and the breakfast was excellent. We didn't stay long enough to explore the area enough and would love to return again.
Cons: Very picky - but a coffee machine in the room (nespresso or similar) would make this place even better
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thoughtful extras turned this accommodation into a highlight to the point where we changed from 2 to 4 nights: Detached “cabins” meant extra privacy, welcome bottle of wine (perfect for evening charcuterie style eats sitting on the porch listening to the birds and taking in the gorgeous view-sublime), robes, comfortable mattress topper, magnifying mirror, towels changed every couple days, outside kitchen, large multi-language library and finally the smell of homemade breads and cakes at breakfast. We generally have difficulty sleeping, yet found everything about this place contributed to restful nights. If you are there on a Saturday it’s worth going to the market in a nearby town to stock up on a range of local food-details from the hosts.

Pros: This is an amazing house with an amazing history. Great courtyard with a pool. We stayed in an apartment but in the house would be fine. We actually used one of the house sitting rooms as the wifi connection in the apartment was poor. Well restored almost 500 year old house with beautiful furnishings. Very welcoming host.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Back to the Old College - what a pleasant stay ! I stayed for 2 nights in one of the (large) groundfloor studios. Great atmosphere, and service, nothing has changed since my last stay in 2015. I'll definitely come back again.
Cons: B'fast used to be a bit more generous in the old times (or this is the way I remember it). The (beautiful) pool also seemed to be in need of a stricter maintenance.

Pros: Amazing relaxing time at Solar dos Mascarenhas! It is lovely to be greeted with so much cheer and good mood and to discover the pictures don't do justice to the place because it is even better! The staff was very helpful even in finding the interest points around town and where to eat. The only complaint was not staying longer!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The friendliness of all the staff, but the helpfulness of the 2 receptionists was outstanding. The breakfast. The location.
Cons: no, all was great.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful renovation of an incredible grande home, retaining some of the old world architectural charm within a handsome, contemporary space. Its upbeat ambiance harmonizes wonderfully well with the exceptionally friendly staff. Excellent location: just a minute from the city's famed castle and historic palace.
Cons: Great to have an outdoor pool in summer, but it is certainly on the small side. While the breakfast buffet is nice (wonderful decor), food selection could be enhanced/expanded. Piping hot coffee would also be a welcome refinement. Having at least 1 major international news channel with English language option (e.g., CNN, BBC, Sky News, etc.) available in the hotel's guest rooms, without having to go downstairs to the lovely living room, where the community TV provides scores of international news channels (in multiple languages), would be a much-appreciated enhancement.

5.0 Okay
Cons: The rooms are on the first floor, quite high up. While we were there the front door got jammed. It took the local firebrigade and a couple of hours to break it down. In the meanwhile we were locked in upstairs because there is no emergency exit. Very unsafe.

Cons: the weather!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beds were comfortable and the staff provided a really traditional "Alentejo" experience. It really felt like we were being taken care of by our mother! :D Breakfast was also great with local and homemade products. Alandroal is a small village and so everything is within walking distance, which makes it easy to walk to the nearby restaurant or cafe.
Cons: The shower needs a bit maintenance. Also, it took a bit for check-in to happen, since no one was there, and the phone number was going to voicemail. It was cold and rainy outside and that was not awesome. Ultimately, everything worked out for the best and we really enjoyed our stay.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and spacious room. Excellent location in a beautiful town.
Cons: A small fridge would have been nice.
6.8 Good
Pros: Comfortable beds and location
Cons: Shower water was super cold. No hot water.
7.5 Good
Pros: Accommodation was spacious, clean, people were friendly and the property was quite nice with trees, lots of light and privacy. Price is OK for what you get.
Cons: No Wi-fi and no TV available in the room - usually not a problem but since it's a small town, there's not a lot to do at night. Heater wasn't working and the nights were still quite cold (maybe turned off after winter?). The floors are made of ceramic tiles and for extra comfort there could be a nice warm rug over the empty areas of the room and bathroom. The gate to the property isn't the easiest one to open/close. No problem here, but it seems other occupants had a rough time with it and were a bit noisy at night.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This small hotel and cafe combined with a large, pleasant restaurant is ideal for those on a budget. The bedroom & bathroom & double bed were large. Tv, wifi, aircon/heater, phone, 2 chairs, desk, wardrobe, disabled friendly. Towels and soap dispensers. We ate 2 evenings in the restaurant for 8.50€ a head with soup, olives, choice of 3 main courses, wine and coffee. Very good and recommended. Hotel easy to find on n4.
Cons: Sadly this otherwise great stay was spoilt by 1. Antonio served us breakfast once and was very unfriendly. Other staff were very helpful/friendly. 2. Breakfast was either toast and jam or cheese roll + coffee/tea. o.k. for those who don't want much breakfast. 3. 2 nights running we had cold or no water and had to get dressed and ask. It was put on in seconds, but was a bit annoying to happen twice.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Spacious bathroom, extra clean room, with an amazing scent as you enter the room. The night receptionist was awesome !
Cons: The breakfast options, should have more.

3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Staff tried his best but was always too busy.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place offers the best ration of quality/price. The bedroom and the bed are big and well equipped. For breakfast I was simply asked what would I want and I end being very fulfilled. They also had a restaurant (that I didn't use) but that was pretty full by dinner time. I would highly recomend this place and if you've a car and are exploring this area in Alentejo this would be a great place to stay for a few nights.
