Pros: Breakfast was excellent, fresh and delicious. The table was set beautifully and welcomed us with a perfect start to our day. our hosts were fluent in several languages and helped us to navigate the local area with maps and insightful advice.
Cons: An extra luggage rack would have been useful because the beautiful furnishings were antique and we didn't want to stress them with our heavy suitcases.

Pros: Bruno and his family and staff went above and beyond to make our stay in Sarlat exceptional. The hotel was in the heart of the medieval city, we couldn't have asked for a better location. The room was beyond spacious, comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was a traditional French breakfast and was extremely delicious. They run a fantastic restaurant and ice cream shop as well. The hospitality was beyond compare. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Pros: Right in the middle of the action. Beautiful city. Parking was tough. Great host. Pretty room good breakfast comfort
Cons: Parking is far away
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Parking - for 2 days - in Sarlat is fraught with difficulty. Our group with parking required for 5 motorcycles were eventually 'rescued' by Bruno (our host's son) who went out of his way to ensure our satisfaction. Quite exceptional assistance on his part. Throughout our stay, he and his parents were massively helpful and accommodating. Their hotel with its adjacent bar/restaurant is within the medieval centre and ideally located for exploring the special beauty of the town. The rooms and ensuite facilities are impressively large - well furnished, beautifully clean and spacious. Breakfast served in front of the restaurant was more than sufficient with constant attention to our needs. Finding this gem of a hotel was one of the highlights of our trip and a hotel we can unreservedly recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bruno was a fantastic host who was always happy to help. Great value for money and loved the breakfast. Our room was on the square but double doors kept out any noise of that sort of thing bothers you. It was great to sit at the window soaking up the atmosphere. Couldn't have asked for more.

Our hosts could not have been more courteous and helpful, even allowing access to personal phones for overseas calls to Aus. to sort banking access issues. Cons: There is no avenue for complaint here. A great place for couples to stay.

Pros: We loved our stay at Maison d’Hotes Anne Fouquet! Everything: the luxurious room, the grounds, the location, the breakfast was wonderful, but the best part was Anne. She went above and beyond to assure that we were happy, comfortable, had dinner reservations, day trip ideas and lovely conversation while she served delicious breakfasts. La Roque-Gageac is one of the most beautiful areas we’ve travelled through. So close to chateaus, great restaurants and charming towns. I highly recommend this lovely B&B!
Cons: It was all fabulous!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a total pleasure staying here. The accommodation, location (lovely views from the room and communal sitting area) and breakfast were wonderful. Our host, Anne, was most helpful and gracious and was fun to chat to in my halting French (she speaks excellent English as well). We'd certainly return.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Anne was an exceptional host. And rooms very newly decorated and luxurious
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An exceptional stay in an exceedingly comfortable and perfectly located haven in one of the most beautiful valleys in the world. We stayed for 5 nights and Anne went to great lengths to provide much more than we expected, or even knew that we wanted. The service she provides is comparable to having an on-call concierge at a five star hotel. I'm not exaggerating! Anne is not just friendly, she is a consummate professional in the very best sense. And of course - the view!
Cons: We wished we could have stayed longer!

Pros: The location was perfect for us as we had several tours of nearby areas. Breakfasts were wonderful and varied. Cons: Nothing, everything was great.

Pros: Had a fantastic stay at Maison d Hotes La Barde. Wonderfully situated in the village of Montfort, with a view of Chateau Montfort. Frédérique and Pascal were great hosts. The atmosphere was very relaxing. Every morning breakfast was served together with the other guests, which was a nice experience and opportunity to have contact with the other guests. The room was perfect, with a private terrace. The garden offered nice sitting areas and with a very nice pool, ideal for a cool down. Great location for visiting the Caves and all the wonderful Towns and Chateaus in the Dordogne. We will definitely be back again for a longer stay the next time.

Pros: Frederique and Pascal, the hotel owners, very nice and hospitable people, helped us a lot in correcting and improving our route. Although we prepared and read two guides, their advice was very helpful. In addition, the hotel is located very well and from there it is convenient to get to all the attractions of the area. The room itself is large, comfortable and has everything you need. I can safely recommend this hotel to my friends and will gladly return there again.

Pros: Everything was great.. It was a little difficult to find the place at first once in Sarlat it's find cause it's stipulated everywhere but otherwise the place is really good. However it was really great that they accepted my dog and the place was super clean always a massive plus.
Cons: To me it was just a little too far from Sarlat centre but again that's just a personal choice. But the surroundings are nonetheless lovely.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: It is a very nice, quiet and clean place just outside Sarlat with a large garden, on the other hand...you must have a car to get around, there are no restaurants nearby, but if you travel by car and you are looking for nice place to stay near Sarlat, this is the right choice for you.
Cons: At the breakfast there could be some warm choice and maybe better coffee...

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just everything. The setting, the facilities, the staff, the location, the breakfast ...
Cons: Everything was awesome.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel with swimming pool, we only stayed for one night and did not take breakfast due to our son's specific taste requests at breakfast. Room was nice. Only comment was the very itchy kind of velour type carpet, but that's my own personal sensory thing, other than that room was great, shower was lovely, plenty of room in there. After an initially frosty welcome, the next reception staff was lovely. Nice outdoor terrace area with table and chairs outside room.
Cons: Location is a little outside of Sarlat but if yo u don't want to walk in to town it's perfect, nice and quiet. Car park is a bit of a squeeze, especially if a supply delivery is happening.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was clean and peaceful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location , near enough to the town but far enough away to enjoy the seclusion. Breakfast lovely
Cons: Nothing
Hotel Maison Des Peyrat - Sarlat-la-Canéda - Building
7
9.3 Excellent (434 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Maison des Peyrat in Sarlat-la-Canéda, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Place de la Liberte and Manoir de Gisson. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: To tell the truth, the beauty of the Maison des Peyrat only began to dawn on me the morning of our arrival for only a one night stay (too short). My wife had been raving about the beautiful garden. I was so exhausted from a very difficult day of driving that I only managed to eat dinner down in the village and go to bed disgruntled. But the next morning I woke up and began looking around and realized that this hotel matched perfectly the idea I have always had of a house in the French countryside. My wife was right, the grounds WERE beautiful but so was the glassed-in breakfast area and the breakfast itself was so elegant and so elegantly served that it eclipsed even the most appealing breakfasts in other places of the long trip we'd been on. We all have "une certain idée de la France" and this wonderful house above Sarlat corresponded to mine. I am sure that strict attention has to be paid to many details to make such perfect hospitality happen but our hosts were so easy and gracious that one would never have dreamed that it was anything but natural. An extraordinary hotel.
Cons: It is a little hard to find on its lovely hillside. A few more signs posted as one approaches would be welcome.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The pool was a perfect feature after a long and hot train ride. It was thrilling staying in such an ancient dwelling with all the most modern appliances. Beautiful views from every window. Great wine choices. Breakfast superb.
Cons: The facility didn't serve dinner. There was a big thunderstorm so we didn't want to walk into town. Fortunately we had food with us and our host invited us to eat in a common area. Host kindly picked us up from the train station it was a 20-30 min walk
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole ambience of the place was perfect for us. A short walk into Sarlat-la-Canéda town centre yet far enough away from the bustle to appreciate the beauty of the property and surroundings.
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning. Ok it’s an uphill walk back from town and the short-cut proved interesting walking back at 23.50 without lights but we laughed that off.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quintessential French villa with rambling garden. Perfect spot for breakfast outside on the tree shaded deck .
Cons: Bed was a bit uncomfortable. No air conditioning
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything french rustic charm with a modern twist loved it perfect hosts superb breakfast lovely pool and facilities all within easy reach of the beautiful historic medieval town of Sarlat
Cons: Nothing to report
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!! This place is beautiful!! A short 10 minute walk to the midevil town, and the owners give you directions. We had "attic room 6" and I was a little concerned that it would be tiny...but it was the biggest room we had while we were in France! It had a seperate area for luggage and clothing from the bedroom. The shower and warming towel rack was amazing. The pool was clean and a fantastic temperature! The grounds were absolutely beautiful and the breakfast was amazing! My favourite place while travelling in the southern part of France!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charmingly located in the country but within easy walking distance to the medieval town. Jean-Marc is an excellent host and we loved their sweet old Alsatian.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Relaxed stylish hotel with garden and pool just within walking distance of Sarlat. Nice staff and lots of places to relax after a hot day sight-seeing
Cons: It was very hot when we were there and although we had a fan sleeping was a little challenging. Walk into Sarlat was easy - back home was uphill but we needed to walk the food off! There is a last little bit which is best not done in heels!
5.8 Okay
Pros: The garden and the thick walls
Cons: The low ceiling which hurt me whenever I raised my head in the bathroom and also the stairs to the bed which were uncomfortable
8.8 Excellent

There are superb restaurants in nearby Domme and Sarlat and Cenac has everything you need for a picnic with its supermarket and boulangeries. We will be back!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I had the room with 2 bunkbeds, modern fittings ample for 4, ditto the huge ensuite with openable double glazed skylight to lose summer heat, well thought out & spacious, catches morning sun. Great waking to rural views & farm location close to local sights. Eric is an attentive helpful host.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely accomodation in a rural setting but only 10-20mins from main attractions: Sarlat, Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Marqueyassac Gardens, Castleaud and numerous other chateaus. So a great base from which to explore.  Very clean, modern and bright. Beautifully presented.  Air con for hot summer nights and plenty of outdoor areas to relax.  Shower was terrific and bed very comfortable.  Sound proofed walls so very quiet.  Parking not a problem.  Breakfast was amazing and lots of it: bread, croissants, baguettes and a selection of preserves.  Eric (the host) is a lovable and friendly chap who is keen to help his visitors.  Despite our embarassing lack of French language (!) we managed to communicate with lots of hand gestures and nodding and were very appreciative of his patience with us!  We would stay here again and highly recommend La Maravela.

Cons: It was perfect!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay. The owner was very helpful and we really enjoyed following her suggestions for activities to do in the area which included canoeing down the Dordogne. She always was happy to help us improve our French. The pool was great and really refreshing as the temperature was around 38C during our stay. Room was clean, cool and comfortable with a large bathroom.
Cons: It was a good uphill walk back from the town, but we were aware of that before booking so took the car if we didn't want to walk. Can't really say that this was a negative.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very pleasant and the owner is very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were also very good. The location is good but it is within walking distance of the old town only if you are in good health. We walked all of the time and did not have difficulty.

Pros: Friendly, clean, all facilities in excellent condition, Host & staff Very attentive to ensure your stay and holiday is most enjoyable, pool area welcome retreat late afternoon
Cons: Location slightly out of Sarlat but totally walkable, only downside a steep incline to return to accommodation after an evening in Sarlat, not suitable for people with walking difficulties
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was spectacular at top of hill so great view from brilliant pool. Room was very comfortable with aircon and a small outdoor sitting area. Accessible for old Sarlat, a town well with a visit
Cons: Breakfast buffet was very good, but would have preferred some fresh baguette rather than sliced bread. And big croissants rather than mini! Would have preferred a cafetiere of coffee for our table rather than a communal flask
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My wife and I stayed at Bon Encontre for 5 nights in July while visiting the Dordogne area. Christine, the owner, runs an excellent place to stay. Extensive breakfast buffet included homemade pastries and cakes every day, and included fresh cut fruit. Very nice breakfast room, as well as lovely seating on a covered terrace overlooking the pool. The pool was large, clean, and included plenty of seating for guests; towels provided. Room was very clean; bed comfortable... and air conditioning helped during the July heat. Christine provided excellent recommendations for restaurants in Sarlat (you should follow her recommendations!), as well as, very good suggestions for sightseeing. All good! The hotel is situated at the top of a steep hill. We chose to drive the very short distance down the hill each evening for dinner in Sarlat. There is parking at the bottom of the hill or along the street that goes around the old town. We never had a problem finding a parking space even though this was the busy season in Sarlat. Highly recommend Hotel Bon Encontre.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fine, but the coffee could have been stronger! Coffee cups should have been smaller so the coffee wouldn't get cold.
Cons: Please see above. I loved the hotel and ambience, pool was a great bonus. I would have like to have been prepared for the very steep walk to the hotel from Sarlat.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Easy to locate due to the posted signs. Lovely, quiet property with refreshing and relaxing pool. Short walk into old town Sarlat. Hotelier was super helpful with information and restaurant options and information for finding gas on a Sunday. Lots of breakfast goodies and delicious coffee.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Apart from the lovely hotel and pool, the highlight was Christine who could not have done more to make sure we got the best from our stay. She recommended restaurants and talked us through the key attractions we should see.
Cons: Nothing!

7.5 Good
Pros: Good room, friendly staff, pretty grounds, comfy bed, fluffy towels.
Cons: Restaurant closed during off season and there are no easy food options nearby. Breakfast is 17 euro per person. Bathroom was smelly for some reason (could not figure out the culprit). No shower curtain so the water splattered everywhere. This place is probably great during the summer, but be prepared to spend much more than normal on food if you plan to eat there.
6.8 Good
Pros: Very good location.
Cons: Meals over priced.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent accommodation which was a mix of the old and the new. Great swimming pool and nice terrace and restaurant. I would come back for longer. Water gardens next door an added bonus and much nicer than expected.
Cons: Nothing really.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The buildings, pool and rooms are beautiful and the staff very welcoming. Excellent service. Nice to be tucked away from the tourist masses in Sarlat. The food is quite good. Overall good value for the experience.
Cons: At the margin, some of the products offered at breakfast could be better. Breakfast was served inside during lunch our stay, would have been nicer outside.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Average OK stay. A little out of the way in modest neighborhood. Good breakfast but expensive. Grounds need more attention to details.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel and grounds are stunning. The staff were very welcoming. The room was spacious and clean. The Swimming pool is fabulous - large pool. Dined on the terrace both nights - wonderful location.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel is lovely and the food is really good both breakfast and dinner. The location was ideal for exploring the Dordogne and would definitely recommend. The owner was really helpful with ideas for sightseeing and there was lots of information in the lounge areas. The pool and outdoor service area is lovely and we would definitely used this area if it had been warmer.
Cons: Had dinner on 2 evenings and would have liked to see a different menu on each evening. The welcome was warmer if you were french speaking. I would like to see better lighting in the room and socket by a mirror for doing hair.

Pros: Really well located, calm place, very nice house, the owner is very available, and all was very clean.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent value for money, comfortable room, good location and a lovely breakfast. Francoise was such a kind and helpful host; she gave us lots of ideas and advice of good places to visit in the local area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ideal home for visiting all the different parts of Dordogne if you have a car. 1. There is free parking right next to the property (whereas parking spots appear to be harder to find in busier cities eg Beynac/Sarlat) 2. It’s easy to come in and out of the cute little town (I imagine it would get a bit tiring if you always had to deal with traffic coming in and out of busier towns every day) 3. The breakfast is a great start to the day, the owners are incredibly attentive and offer great advice and restaurant recommendations 4. They have the cutest pets 5. There were other guests but we never heard anything through the walls - good soundproofing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the studio downstairs. It was as described and was well fitted out with a kitchenette in the room. Breakfast was very good and our host was helpful and accommodating. Cenac is a great base for exploring the area.
Cons: There is a little private area to sit in outside the studio - the only downside is that you have the noise from the main road going through the village. Not a problem if you're out and about!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We spent two nights very comfortably, and our two children especially enjoyed the chance to meet the puppies. The host Françoise has good English and was gracious about our late arrival. Excellent breakfast w some homemade jam..

The breakfast was very good and the female director of the hotel was very polite and performed highly professional to fullfill all our wishes. We enjoyed using the swimming pool after our sightseeing-tours. around. Lascaux, Les Eyzies, and many other interesting points can be reached easily.
Cons: The hotel is situated on a hillside. It is possible to reach the city center of Sarlat by feet within 15 minutes using a steep little street leading downhill. During our stay it became very hot and the way to town and back became very exhausting.

Pros: Great location if you have a car, very friendly staff.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was situated just outside Sarlat, a few minutes by car. It took 15 minutes to walk to the town, but the hill was very steep on the way back. The room was large very clean and airy, it had a shower and separate toilet. The bed was very comfortable. Outside there was a small private terrace with a table and chairs. The pool was excellent, very private and well maintained.
Cons: The room was slightly dated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was without any doubt the best hotel that we used on our tour. Value for money was excellent. The rooms were great. The hotel surroundings were very quiet being situated just out of the town on the edge of the countryside. The owners were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for them. We only had one evening meal at the hotel and it was excellent. The breakfast choice of food was vast with everything you could want and plenty of it. English it spoken very well here so we were very pleased with that. The old town itself was lovely to explore and has very many good places to eat. The four nights spent here were well worth the long trip on motorcycles from England to get there.
Cons: It was not a problem for me but two of our party of four motorcyclists found the walk back up the hill from the town very steep. One could always take a taxi if you do not like walking up hills.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The pool and terrace are absolutely beautiful. The property feels quiet, peaceful and secluded.

Cons: Breakfast not good value for money charged. In fact, in France the cost of breakfast is becoming a major add-on to the room cost - 30% or more. Hotel could do with restaurant in view of location. Owner plans to add in future.

Cons: Because it was so central it was also noisy
10.0 Excellent
Pros: we first booked the flat for 2 nights and at the arrival, when we saw how beautiful it is, we booked one night more (without even seeing the city first). first go and see where the room is located and then bring the bags (it is a bit difficult at first, because is the central building in the old part of the town and you will not find it easy with google maps). it’s right in the central square and you have a beautiful view from the room. it’s easy to walk everywhere from there and has everything near. the hosts are very nice and they give you good advices about where to go and eat. the breakfast is good and comes in a little basket every morning at your door (which is very nice). you should choose this location with your eyes closed! it’s the most amazing room with an amazing view and location.

Pros: Beautiful setting and impressive garden and pool. The dinner was very pleasant (and sociable with other guests from various countries) as was breakfast. Our host was charming and helpful.
Cons: The gite we occupied is a little tired in its fixtures and fittings (especially the bed).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was so beautiful and comfortable. The swimming pool was refreshing.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We rented a gite at this site. There were some excellent features - especially the swimming pool and the ability to eat outside beside the barbecue. The owner was friendly and helpful.
Cons: There were two main problems. First, because the rooms of the gite are on several different levels there were many stairs connecting them. This made life difficult for my wife, who is blind. Had this been made clear in the description of the gite we would not have booked it. The second problem was just that the cooker in the kitchen did not work well - we could only cook on one ring.

Pros: Great country location in a beautiful area
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: Pool and surrounding areas were beautiful. Plus an amazing breakfast!

Pros: Modern hotel within walking distance to Sarlat historical center. Free parking on the street just outside the hotel. Very polite and accommodating managers at reception. We were arriving late - they called us with all necessary instructions and door code.
Cons: Room was modern and clean but very basic and tiny. We could hardly move when having 2 suitcases open on the floor. Shower was very inconvenient, with bad temperature regulation and water flooding the floor.

Pros: A well run hotel in a great location for walking into town - not too far. Very clean and well run and even more important comfortable. Great shower.

5.0 Okay
Pros: Great location, very close to the Old Town. This is very poor value - hotel looks great from the road, and in the lobby but it ends there! The rooms are very old and tired, definitely in need of renovating. This is fine as hotels do get on in age - but you can’t charge 4 star pricing for a 2 star accommodation! Very poor!

Pros: The room was very clean and the 4 beds for the family room very comfy. There's no air con but a fan was provided as well as cold bottles of water when we arrived which was a nice touch as it was very hot. We didn't get to try the breakfast as we were meeting up with friends. The staff was nice & welcoming.
Cons: The water for the shower kept jumping from hot to cold.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful owners and staff made for a fantastic one night stay Delightful newly refurbished bedrooms and make sure to book dinner in the restaurant where the talented chefs produce delicious value for money meals
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners of the hotel and staff were all very pleasant and helpful. We ate in the attached restaurant on our second evening and, in truth, wish we had done so on our first night rather than eating in nearby Domme. The restaurant was good value and had a fun/buzzy atmosphere. Although the room was basic, it had everything we needed and, above all, it was spotlessly clean.
Cons: Were disturbed at 6.30 am. by the food delivery lorry parking and unloading beneath our window, but it wasn't a major problem.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great staff- excellent food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant is quality. Great food, great service and value for money.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The bed was comfortable, the room large, the shower excellent. Portable fan managed the heat excellently. Also liked that they were okay with me dropping bags earlier although when I arrived to do so, was told the room was ready, which was perfect.
Cons: The check-in time (6pm) although my room was ready early. The blistering heat meant shutters had to stay closed so room was dark.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect -- especially the details, for example we were offered bottles of water when we checked in (it was a very hot day!) Staff were particularly friendly and helpful all along our stay.
Cons: Nothing -- it could not not have been better! In fact, the value for money is amazing, both in the hotel and restaurant, and in all honesty, we could have paid more for the rooms and the delicious dinner!
6.8 Good
Pros: Food was excellent.
Cons: It was annoying that we had to wait until 1800 to get access to our room in 35 deg heat. Room was small. But it was cheap and where we wanted to be for the night
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant is superb and very popular in the village so recommend booking in advance. Cooked by proprietor Fabien who speaks perfect English and was very helpful, driving us back to Sarlat Domme airfield next morning.
Cons: Room was basic but adequate for the budget.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A pleasant surprise in terms of value for money, very clean, efficiently welcomed. The restaurant offers extremely good food and is understandably very popular with locals so we felt lucky to secure a table at short notice.
Cons: Probably unfair but the 6pm check in is exactly that. We arrived a little earlier and it was locked up.
