The Ryokan Tokyo Yugawara - Hostel

The traditional room in this modern ryokan was absolutely gorgeous! We were in awe of just how stunning the room was.

The meals, breakfast and dinner, are varied and delicious Japanese food. Some of the best meals we had in our entire Japan trip were there.

The onsen is small but clean and nice for up to 5 at once, but there was never more than 2 people at once while there. Super relaxing!

The wide common places to sit and have coffee while reading books were great. Teleworking from here would also be a nice change and break from the usual.

The low season is in June, and the high season is in March.

Plan your arrival and departure according to the limited free shuttle service to and from Yugawara Station, as the walk from the bus stop to the Ryokan can be challenging, especially with luggage.

If you prefer a comfortable sleep, be aware that the traditional rooms provide floor futons, which may not be suitable for everyone.

Due to the remote location and limited shuttle service, consider stocking up on snacks beforehand, as the Ryokan is situated on a steep hill and accessing it can be challenging without a taxi or the shuttle service.

Despite some feedback about the size, the onsen provides a relaxing experience, especially with its natural spring water and picturesque mountain views.

Don't miss out on the included meals, as they are highly praised for their variety and delicious Japanese cuisine, including make-your-own sushi and shabu shabu.

Take a 15-minute walk to Man-yō Park, a beautifully maintained public space with shrines, a waterfall, and lush forest, offering a serene natural setting for exploration.

Keep in mind that the Ryokan's location on a steep hill may require advance planning for transportation, but the value and service provided make it a worthwhile escape from city life.

If you're on a budget, consider booking a capsule unit, which offers a comfy bed, wide space, and access to public baths, making it a pleasant and cost-effective escape from the city.

The Ryokan offers a traditional Japanese hotel experience, complete with hot baths and excellent cuisine in a serene atmosphere.

If you're considering a solo or group retreat, the Ryokan provides wide common areas for relaxation, reading, and even teleworking, with shared equipment and Wi-Fi routers available on every floor.
