Overview Reviews
Located in Yugawara, Mimasuya is within a 15-minute drive of Lake Ashi and Atami Sun Beach. This 4-star ryokan is 10.8 mi (17.4 km) from Hakone Shrine and 11.7 mi (18.8 km) from Odawara Castle.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very traditional, nice and peaceful. The service was amazing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great welcome, seemed like all the staff had come out to welcome us. Staff were very friendly. The manager, Ao, had a good level of english and was very helpful with providing information. Lovely comfortable room, that was cleaned to a high level everyday and a pleasant mountain view. Despite sleeping on the floor it was my best nights sleep in Japan.
Cons: There was no private onsen and unfortunately one of the onsens is quite small (they have two). My wife waited for the onsen to be swapped over (was told it alternate every day) so she could use the larger onsen, however unexpectedly when she went it still had not been swapped over as expected. Ryokan is on a very steep hill, so you need to be relatively fit to walk up the hill especially with luggage. Less fitter visitors may have to get a taxi up the steep hill.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were really excellent. We had the most interaction with our hostess who helped with meals but also tried to help with questions and was just very welcoming and pleasant. The facilities were very good. We had traditional-style dinners which were really enjoyable and interesting.
Cons: The things that we weren’t that thrilled about were also things we intentionally chose, so it isn’t a complaint or criticism, but something maybe travellers should bear in mind. A traditional-style breakfast really is very much like a dinner (to our western tastes anyway) so do be sure you want that experience. And the same comment regarding the sleeping situation - we chose traditional, so not a complaint, but traditional is quite a thin futon and a pillow that is apparently stuffed with buckwheat. I was glad of the experience, not sure I would do that part again.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Room was very big. Traditional Japanese style. Decor in the hotel was very nice as well as outdoor landscape. Spa was terrific! Separate areas for men & woman. First time trying it, and loved it. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
Cons: The location of the hotel on the hill makes access via car tricky, if you are not used to driving such steep inclines and narrow streets. We had a medium sized rental car, but made it through. The staff at the hotel will help you bring your car in and out of parking, so, it's not too bad, but you have to choose your route away from the hotel carefully to take the easiest road out (downhill). Dining options that are walking distance are limited. Ask the hotel staff to recommend a place to go. We found most restaurants are not listed in Google maps...
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Onset and facilities fantastic. Great art museum in the hotel with a nice relaxing Japanese garden. Staff were incredibly helpful and kind. Our room was very comfortable in a traditional Japanese style.
Cons: Difficult to access by public transport. Also very limited options for food in the surrounding area - and no restaurant in the hotel. Ended up having a 711 dinner as all nearby restaurants were shut after 8pm!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very relaxing environment. Wonderful staff.
Cons: Steep walk from the bus stop. Recommend getting a taxi if you have luggage.
9.3 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very nice, it might look old outside but inside is magnificent. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. All of the hotel's facility is good, it looks like they delicately select things to use in their hotel. Onsen is good, especially private open-air onsen. Kiseki meal is superb too, I love every detail and every minute spent in this hotel.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff was really helpful, they were very kind letting us know the bus times to hakone (the local bus will only stop by 2 times per day a nearby station). The onsen was great, it had a viewing of the properties private cherry blossoms. Recommended to go during sakura season.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The best hotel over my Japan trip. Strongly recommend
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The onsen experience here is exceptionally nice. Both the public and private ones are clean and have a green outlook with peace and tranquility.
Cons: The dinner is delicious too especially if you are a seafood lover. Yet one might not appreciate very much if you are not fond of fish.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very welcoming we felt like going to someone’s house. The rooms are clean and spacious and the breakfast ceremony was unforgettable.
Cons: The ryokan should be renewed, certains parts seem old

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The Dinner was possibly the best food I have ever experienced. It's a 5 course japanese styled cuisine, finished with dessert, and I would gladly pay $100 alone for that meal. The hotel staff were extremely nice, and the scenery is amazing. The private hot springs is also very relaxing, and can fit 3-4 medium sized people decently well.
Cons: The one minor downside is that it requires a taxi to get to and from this place, as it's located at the top of a very steep hill

Pros: I liked the relaxing lounge area to hang out.
Cons: As I was traveling by bicycle and wanted to leave early in the morning, I was wishing the bath area opens at least at 6am.
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean and funky style . bunk beds have privacy and power plug , it has a nice lobby and nice interior , good breakfast , helpful staff and a shuttle in the morning which goes to train station
Cons: If you don’t have a car the location is very inconvenient , it’s up on the hill , you need a car for sure and shuttle / bus to the train station is very limited . You need to reserve breakfast / dinner well ahead Although it’s overall pretty clean , the bathrooms had a funny smell .
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: nothing
Cons: charge towel and bath clothing, never inform guest in advance. big shock!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Facilties and atmosphere
Cons: Location
6.3 Good
Pros: Decoration
Cons: Location. Bad English. Nobody most of the time at the front desk. You have to inform in advance if you want to have breakfast next day but it’s impossible if anyone is at the front desk.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and relaxing. Provides everything you need! A really great place if you just want somewhere to relax but maybe not if you want to get out and about - note that the shuttle bus provided by the hostel drops off at yugawara station at 9am & 10am and picks up from the station at 3.45pm and 4.45pm only.
Cons: I was happy to learn they could cook an alternative vegetarian meal for me but what actually came was (all cold) - slices of mozzarella and tomato, potato salad, half a baguette of toasted bread, a piece of daikon(?) and a small amount of salad. I wouldn't have minded too much but they charged me 1670yen! The same price as one of the more expensive meat options. The only other bad thing I could say about the place is that if you sat in the tatami/bean bag area then you end up smelling of frying from the cafe
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Calm and relaxed atmosphere and super professional and warm personnel who helped me tie my Yukata :) It was one of the best hostels we have encountered during our trip through Japan! We were very reluctant to leave... If you are in the area this is definitely a recommendation!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: For the price, we found this place to be of great value! The beds were comfy (even tho there were weird stains & some cobwebs), there were lockers, facilities were clean enough, and the place is beautiful! We booked this place for our Hakone trip and found that it was a better value than the closeby places and the Hakone Tozan line runs through here so you can use your Hakone free pass, which is great! It does take about 45~60 minutes so try to plan ahead. The nearest conbini is very far, you have to go down a steep hill and trek back up the same steep hill in the dark (be careful if youre traveling alone). In that area there are a handful of restaurants, mostly with the ryokans, but it's enough to feed you if you dont mind the far walk! Couple things to note: the towels are 600 yen...but the small hand towels are free, which I found to be sufficient. There are only 3 toilets (1 was out of operation at the time of our visit) in the whole facility, one on the 1st floor, one on the 2nd, one on the 3rd inside the onsen. The onsen opens at 6:30~23:00, but I wish it was 24 hours. The staff sleep here in this building on the 5th floor, and they use it after hours (we were surprised at how loud they were at midnight playing music and shouting..the walls are very thin). That being said, I went to the onsen at 6:30 and it was practically empty, very peaceful and relaxing. The unisex shower area, where there are 4~5 separate shower stalls, were nice and clean with locking doors and a large changing space. We had the breakfast for 2 nights of our stay, it was very expensive at 2200 yen per day, but I think it was worth it for the experience, you can see the beautiful hills and sunrise while sitting in the comfy bean bag chairs. They do offer shuttle service to Yugawara station, but only two times a day, 9am/10am or 3:45/4:45. For the distance that this place is from the station, that was pretty disappointing.
Cons: For the price, I wasn't expecting Hilton-quality guest service, but some of the staff were cold & unfriendly. The front desk is not 24/7 so if you need someone you have to call them and wake them up, kinda strange. The shuttle service should be more frequent than 2 times a day, the location is very inconvenient, the staff should take better note of this. This place also doesn't have any wheel-chair/disability accommodation, so keep that in mind.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Super clean hotel, decorated in a beautiful modern style. The on-site hot spring was scrupulously clean. The free yukatas for loan were gorgeous. And the hotel restaurant was fantastic.
Cons: Nothing comes to mind.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hot spring was Divine
