Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "The crew were lovely - friendly and polite!"
Cons: "The delayed departure- but I truly understand that it was beyond the control of the company as the delay was weather related."
Pros: "Crew were helpful and pleasant and it was nice to get a drink of water, a cookie and the offer of a cup of tea or coffee"
Pros: "The crew"
Pros: "I cannot say enough good things especially about the Air New Zealand staff on this flight, they were truly amazing, went above and beyond to help me and others. They were personable & caring! The seat was comfortable and the dinner was the best tasting airline food I have eaten in years. Happy!"
Cons: "I’m really not sure."
Cons: "I was not able to travel. When I reached the airport, I was told that I needed a transit visa for my 1.5 hr stopover in Auckland."
Pros: "Amazing crew. Airline was awesome .. seem less"
Pros: "I was disappointed that Air New Zealand charges US15 to reserve specific seats. For our party of 3, that would be US90 RT so I didn't do it. But at the gate I asked for window seats and the attendant gave us excellent seats at the front of the plane."
Cons: "No issues that caused us any problems."
Pros: "I liked that there was food available and that they offered complimentary snacks and drinks. Some of the crew members were nice and offered good service. I liked that they offered some type of entertainment and free wifi."
Cons: "I didn't like that some of the crew members were not very nice. I also disliked that some of the crew members drove the food/beverage cart violently through the isles and saw as one of the crew members rammed into another person's leg, to only say "oh sorry" and kept on going. This same crew member missed picking up the trash from an entire row and was throwing trash on the floor. She was more interested in caring for a baby on board (not sure if it was her daughter or family member) than the rest of the passengers. I also didn't like the seats were so close to each other, the person in front of me almost hit my face when he reclined his seat all the way back. There wasn't much room to breath let alone stretch."
Pros: "The attendants were very attentive"
Cons: "One of the poorest meals I have had in 50 years of flying do not like the seating configuration in business class"
Cons: "Not clear that I wouldn't be able to check a bag for my return flight. I flew to New Zealand with a large bag and then when I went to check in for my return flight they told me I couldn't check it to bring it back and my only option was to cargo it, which was not helpful being that the cargo was out of the airport and I needed to catch my flight. I was luckily able to check it on a separate flight my boyfriend was going on. But I would have either have had to leave my bag or miss my flight if he hadn't been there. It should have been more apparent that I wouldn't have been able to check it on the way back. It makes no sense to be able to bring a bag to New Zealand and not bring it back. That was very frustrating and overall I was very disappointed with this experience."
Pros: "The option to gate check strollers for easy access with a toddler"
Cons: "The stroller wasn't delivered to the gate by Air New Zealand"
Pros: "I never doubt Air NZ , overall Ok ."
Cons: "this flight bit noisy, and felt dirty toilet ..anyway,,, I Like Air NZ .Hope good next time"
Cons: "I added Luggage 16.5kg and they charge $130 AUS.The weak point is they are not showing luggage when we booked."
Pros: "Crew was so friendly and helpful"
Pros: "service, food, good pilot"
Cons: "nothing everything just perfect"
Pros: "No security on this regional flight; made it simple to board. Very quiet for a turboprop aircraft. Boarding was delayed and not well announced."
Pros: "Service"
Cons: "More leg space should be given to who have height to6”1’ or so."
Pros: "Air New Zealand is one of the best air experiences we've had. Employees seem to enjoy their jobs and are usually happy. Very service oriented. Ground staff and check in terrific. Why can't USA folks and TSA figure this out? Updates from flight deck were good and pilot seemed to avoid some expected turbulence. Cabin crew friendly, competent, helpful. Food was very good, nice touch with comp wine. Entertainment options were many and good variety. Hope to fly ANZ again someday."
Cons: "A little weird, to go out of secured concourse and go back through security, again, in Auckland. Safety, I suppose. At least process was fast and efficient and folks were friendly."
Pros: "Window seat liked it"
Cons: "About baggage didnt liked it... And no food too we didnt came across these to book it while booking tickets .. And passport recognization in sydney troubled a lot us for re checking and identification of our faces to passport ...it was irritating as if we r some wrong we did ..passport photo was without usage or somehow it was like dat not clear picture of us... Maybe due to moist it was like dat...no one was listening to us and made us to wait for long time ."
Pros: "Great customer service. We flew on Air New Zealand and United, and the contrast was big. ANZ stewards showed much higher level of pride in serving their passengers."
Pros: "The crew were delightful. Nice cup of tea and a magnificent day for flying."
Pros: "After 3 flights on Air NZ we were very impressed by their service. Comfortable seats, great inflight entertainment system, decent food and very friendly cabin staff."
Cons: "We had 2 middle seats, which was less comfortable, but it was my fault for not choosing seats earlier."
Pros: "Attendants were friendly. The agent at the gate rerouted my flight after my initial flight was delayed. She explained she did that so that I could make my international connection in time."
Pros: "Really great service from the flight crews - smiley, polite and we were served drinks twice from a 2.5 hrs flight. Entertainment program was great with better leg space. Overall it was a pleasant experience! Thanks"
Cons: "No free movies"
Pros: "There was a blanket, pillow, and headphones on my seat when I arrived."
Cons: "We were not able to select our seats and didn’t realize we had received the seat and bag fare. We only received a cup of water and were seated in the next to last row, often overlooked and not acknowledged."
Pros: "Everything"
Cons: "Nothing"
Cons: "They charged $120 per checked bag- none are included in airfare. Also, no free food."
Pros: "Friendly crew, timely response, food was nice"
Pros: "My husbands booking was not processed correctly from the site we booked through, and we didn't notice the mistake until we were checking in. We were at the airport at least 2 1/2 hours before boarding time. The mistake could have been rectified, we were told it would need an email from Virgin to confirm and change the booking. We photographed and sent through passport details. We phoned the booing site, we phoned Virgin, we were put on hold for 25 mins while the booking site phoned Virgin - but Virgin refused to help us out! My husband was not able to board the flight - no refund, no help - and the sad part was, it wasn't for a holiday - it was to visit and help his 87yr old father-in-law who had fallen and cracked his spine. No sympathy from Virgin, VERY DISAPPOINTED!"
Pros: "The boarding process was efficient and the seat was comfortable enough for coach class across the Pacific. It was a definite bonus not having someone in the middle seat. The food was quite good, and I appreciated the ability to get snacks throughout the flight. The crew was efficient, the IFE is very good, and the entire experience was very positive. I will continue to fly ANZ internationally as often as I can."
Cons: "Nothing."
Pros: "The boarding and on-board service were excellent. Enough free-of-charge entertainment to keep me occupied during the 3-hour flight between SYD and CHC. Plenty of room for carry-on luggage."
Cons: "Felt like I was flying a US carrier - very little room between the rows. I was surprised by this, as I thought that non-US carriers generally don’t pack their planes. I was surprised, but not inconvenienced by this, since it was a morning flight and only 3 hours gate-to-gate."
Pros: "everything"
Cons: "nothing"
Pros: "smooth flight, good treats, great legroom and fun crew!"
Cons: "nothing"
Pros: "Cabin crew was excellent"
Cons: "No complaints"
Pros: "It was simply fantastic - all of it!"
Pros: "On-time flights."
Pros: "Everything comfy spacious seats row 8"
Cons: "Nothing"
Pros: "The inflight seatback entertainment."
Cons: "Tiny seats and no snacks or drinks in flight."
Pros: "Flight was great, happy to be back home! Movies were awesome to watch on board, good selection!"
Pros: "They put me on a flight to Auckland and then a flight to Wellington"
Cons: "Well I didn't even get on this flight because the plane haven't even left wellington when it was supposed to have been boarding in Sydney had to get two different flights"
Pros: "Service"
Cons: "Waiting for passengers and delaying our flight"
Pros: "Very friendly and good service- price was very high for the distance/time"
Pros: "United Code share. Very poor boarding. Service is poor, food is poor. But compared to some US Airlines they are probably good."
Cons: "Well for every US airline. Improve everything."
Pros: "The best ever business class check in and superior lounge and breakfast."
Pros: "For such a long flight the food is not good! The only snacks are a tiny tiny bag of corn chips or a cookie. The attendants were average. The comfort of coach was bad. Other airlines will give you great snacks, tooth brush, night mask, etc but not Air New Zealand they are almost like a budget airline. Not sure how they are rated the best airline."
Pros: "Smoothe flight"
Cons: "1/2 hour late to depart"
Pros: "Premium Economy is worth it on long flights, especially if they're overnight flights!"
Pros: "Nothing"
Cons: "I will not use kayak again, because they used this terrible gouging airline that we did not know we were using for our flight. We had to change the flight date of our sons trip and they wanted to charge us $350 to change the flight and then with the difference in the flight it was gonna cost us $530 on top of that. The total for our flight was going to cost us $880! We found a brand-new flight with another company for $670! It is disgraceful! I will never use KAYAK because they used this airline and they don't let you know it! we never got our money back for the flight we did not use. It was a hard lesson learned. Whole thing"
Pros: "The plane was new and the flight was good with no problems."
Cons: "Being a Star Alliance Gold member and Premier 1K on United Airlines I was expecting a bit more than water and a lolly. Yes, we did only buy the "seat" ticket, but come on a soda was an added cost. I don't see us flying AZ again anytime in the near future."
