The fee kept changing depending on who I was speaking with and when I agreed to pay with my AMEX they said they did not take AMEX so they eventually waived the fee. This was only done after showing the manager a printed copy of my booking which listed that passengers are allowed 2 checked bags each. This was all done in the office of the South African Airways who I assume was managing the Airlink flight."

The bus was still there but we were not allowed on. Also, the representative said the boarding was delayed 3 minutes. Actually they boarded early. All along way we were assured there was no problem making flight."

Cons: "Similar to some other reviewers we had to completely exit the terminal at JNB and then check in for our international flight sequence on Qatar, this was easy but caused a little anxiety, especially after learning that the total checked baggage for one person on the air link is 30kgs (66lbs) which is less than standard international weights. We had to pay extra for the “overweight” bags but the cost was reasonable. I would use the airline again."

Cons: "One of the worst experience I’ve had, if not the worst. Lack of communication between flight attendants at gate was the main reason for missing our flight, after 2 delays from the previous flight. When we got to the gate they closed it at that moment, earlier than it should have. A Mr. Fenney, person in charge at the gate, didn’t help much. Just went through the motion and as slow as possible trying to help us. It seemed he just wanted to pretend he was helping us. Worse was his attitude when telling is the gate has already closed, didn’t do anything to help us, nothing at all. We had to literally get information out of him. We then went to customer service were the same thing happened, a lack of care that we missed our flight due to things out of our control. Even to the point where the agent told us “be sure to be there on time this time”, like if it was our fault we missed it (we told her the details of our situation). Till this point they don’t seem to care. They left about 15 people, that i know of, hanging. If they had better comunication between gates and waited a miserably 5 more minutes (although they closed the gate earlier then they should have) everyone would have made it. Throughout the whole process we noticed that american airlines employees did not care that many on that first flight had connection flights. They were just going through the motion, slowly while all of us were a bit desperate knowing that the layover time was going to be very close."

Cons: "I got to the airport to find that my 19:15 flight had been delayed to 22:15. I hadn't received any notification from BA and still do not know the reason for the delay. The only other option available was for BA to put us on the 20:20 Kulula flight to Lanseria and then shuttle us from Lanseria to OR Tambo. It really is not pleasant to get back home so late on a week night and not even be given any warning or any reason for the huge delay."

Cons: "The food was absolutely appalling on both flights... We received a cheese snack. It was an old sesame seed bun ,with a very thin, small slice of cheese which you could hardly taste on it. With that they placed cucumber, that does not add to the taste of the dish, but only makes the bread soggy. There is also a piece of lettuce on that is past its crunchy freshness it is supposed to have. The last ingredient is sun-dried tomato that was the only ray of light for a poor effort of a snack by BA. I can truly say that during the past year BA's in flight food service on local flights, are on a downward spiral and almost in the dumps."

Cons: "Peppers in the food does not make the food taste nicer, it just adds a flavor that i think does not add great value for airport food. It is the same with raw onions. Once in a container everything tastes like the onions. This has been done away with and my personal opinion is that the same should be done to the peppers.
