Pros: "This review is for return travel from ATL to MAA (Chennai, India) and back. Route: ATL-DOH: about 14.5 hrs; DOH-MAA: about 4.5 hrs; Likes: 1. Baggage check-in process was simple and easy. 2. Meal preferences was good - I'm a vegetarian and on the onward journey forgot to specify the meal preference but the crew had enough inventory to meat the requirements. 3. Every seat was provided with a small plastic pouch/packet/goodie bag that consisted of a eye mask (very thoughtful), pair of sock, toothpaste+brush (very thoughtful), hand cream. This was very useful and effective. 4. Entertainment - options were good and current."
Cons: "Dislikes: 1. Online check-in wasnt easy; towards the end of the process, there is an option to email the boarding pass but this never worked. Not sure if this is something to do with the browser (tried with Firefox, Opera) 2. It would have been good, as part of the online check-in, if the users reminded to specify the meal preferences, etc. I forgot to specify the meal preferences but thankfully the crew had enough of what I wanted. 3. Take a relook at the packaging of the toothpaste tube in the goodie bag. It was sealed in such a way that it was difficult to open it w/o a sharp object. This should have been easier. 4. Seats were the worst part - poor legroom. Worst, the seat cushion is the worst. I think it was just a fabric over a metal seat with minimalist of cushion. ATL to DOH leg was the worst (and the longest leg of the trip). Unless you have open seats next to you it would be a back breaking and painful trip. Seat comfort wise, I would rate Qatar as the worst. Luckily on the return leg (DOH-ATL) next two seats to mine was empty, so was able to stretch and sleep well. DOH-MAA or MAA-DOH seating was little better (think its a older plane; newer planes have worst seats) 5. The website was damn slow while accessing from overseas. Even in the US, at times the website hangs-up, freezes or spins often. 6. Food was ok -dinner and lunch but minimalistic; I didnt see any specific breakfast menu or any coffee served separately (was part of beverage option during lunch or dinner) 7. There was no alert, communication, notification, reminder of upcoming trip via email or text, etc. Many airlines does this very often but Qatar was totally silent on it (they did have my email during checkin). Not sure why."

The entertainment was good with a wide selection of movies and TV shows. The crew was incredibly nice and helpful and I had a really pleasant time talking with them. On the airport team side I can also say they were extremely helpful as I missed my flight and they promptly rebooked me on the next one 3h later, free of charge. I think the stress of missing a flight was completely deflected by the help of the Virgin Atlantic crew at the desk so thank you for that!"

Cons: "I travel this route (ATL - MGM) often and it seems like half the time I use Delta there is an issue with the plane including times when the flight has been cancelled. This time the plane left the gate and some fifteen minutes after sitting on the tarmac was taken back to the gate. The issue was said to be an element that keeps a sensor from freezing in extreme cold weather. The less than one hour flight took two hours to complete. This should have been dealt with as a maintenance issue but Delta doesn't seem to think so. The planes on this route make Delta a LOT of money as it is one of the most profitable routes in the US. You would think Delta could invest in keeping better maintained planes on the route."

We were lucky to have a spare seat between us and were comfortable for the flight. The entertainment system and the programming choices were quite good."

They eventually put us together and upgraded us to Economy Plus."

I have never encountered this situation in my life where a carrier would only send checked bags to the layover destination instead of the final destination for which I paid! Needless to say I had to go through immigration and collect my bags in Frankfurt. The only reason I made my connection was because the next flight was delayed. Absolutely horrible service and response from both United and Lufthansa when I tried to explain the situation in San Francisco. As far as the actual flight, it was ok aside from the fact that United is too cheap to install entertainment systems so you have to bring your own laptop or watch the big screen where there's only 1 predesignated movie showing like they had back in the 90's. United stinks."

Comfort doesn't exist anymore in Economy class, if you are taller than 5.9' your knees will touch the seat and you are squeezed in like cows. But that applies to almost all airlines nowadays."

Would not allow even 0.5 lbs over allowed limit of 50 lbs. for each individual bag, even though second bag was lower than allowable limit. I had middle seat in Premium Economy. My shoulders were pushing against persons sitting on each side. seat is 17" wide, my shoulders are over 20" wide. It was so uncomfortable that soon after take-off I moved to economy section for the only aisle seat available. The seat reclines only 5", so whether I reclined or not, the seat was very uncomfortable. The food served was way below par. TV dinner quantity was so little that I could have had 3 of those. Plastic cutlery of miniature size. Charged for alcoholic beverages (on transatlantic flight!!). Pleasant surprise was the availability of vegetarian option without pre-ordering before flight. For snack before landing, they served cold croissant. And they did not load one of my bags .... was supposed to be on the flight next day, but wasn't. So its been 2 days and I am still waiting on 1 of my 2 checked bags. And the wifi has not worked on any United flight so far for me. Way back in 2013 Turkish airline had working wifi and did not charge extra, unlike what United wants to do ... but they have to first get the wifi working. Flight immediately after was Lufthansa. Even though I consider Lufthansa now as a "has been" airline, it pains to say that Lufthansa was much more comfortable. Seats reclined much more than United making them relatively much more comfortable than United. Regular size steel cutlery. Alcoholic beverages (limited choice, no rum but had Dewars) served. I have flown many times on United from US to Europe and Asia. Last few years were mostly in Business Class and was very happy. I have accumulated over 200,000 miles in the last years and was a Gold status member with United for couple of years. But the cost cutting measures implemented by United in economy class over last few years puts it now on par with airlines like Frontier and Spirit in the domestic market. But the tix prices are on par with premium airlines. I will be avoiding United for international travel."

Prior to check in and during check in, I was informed that I was not able to select our seats, and that we would just have to arrange seating ourselves once we were on the plane!! A week prior to leaving Amman my husband called rj and talked to a representative who changed our seats."
Cons: "I actually didn't fly QR. My RJ light from TLV to AMM was delayed by approx 2 hours. I asked to be taken off the flight in order to fly the day after from TLV to LCA and take QR. However the RJ gate agents explained that there are over 40 people on the flight that need to take the QR from AMM and that the ties between RJ and QR are very strong and the QR flight will wait the necessary 15 minutes. However, as we landed in AMM we saw the QR aircraft push back 5 minutes earlier than the scheduled departure. We got stuck in AMM and the RJ people were nice but totally inefficient and claimed that they were limited by their corporate procedures. I asked to be put on an Etihad flight that was scheduled to leave 2 hours later and that would put me at the end of the day in MAA (my destination) around 2.5 hours later which was acceptable in my eyes. The transfer desk agent said he is going to arrange it, disappeared for 45 minutes and then came and told me this is already too late for Etihad (it was not) and anyway they cannot let me take Etihad since they are not a part of "One World". I argued a bit and he said ok went to teh back office and disappeared for another 20 minutes. at that point he came and told me that all is taken care of and here is my new flight and proceeded to show me an itinerary which took me through BKK to MAA but the AMM-BKK flight will leave only at 0130 at night (this was around 1430) and get to BKK in the afternoon tomorrow. Then I will have to wait in the airport another 8-9 hours to fly to MAA. hence 2 nights without sleep staying at airports. BTW, I was the only Business/first passenger but this did not confer on me any special treatment. I refused to take this route and at the end asked them only to get me back to TLV and there I will change the whole route and go tomorrow on QR from LCA. I had to wait at AMM airport until 2100 and only now - 2300 - reached home which I left at 0600 this morning. BTW, i don't think that they restored my ticket to its original form (which was a full QR ticket covering also the RJ and Pegasus flights. but I was too tired to argue. I will postpone my trip by one more day and change the route to avoid another debacle like this one. Also, I chatted with the QR people in Amman, and ithey claim that they were not told that the RJ from TLV had 40 passengers connecting through them. This is the absolute opposite of what the RJ people claimed. Last, all his is without even mentioning the issues this delay caused since I have people who came specifically for this, waiting for me in MAA and God only knows when I will manage to get there and whether or not they will wait for me. Guys, you have to do something about this. I am quite a regular flyer and this is the worst experience I had."
